Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Soundtrack music talk...ok, can't believe no one has mentioned Brutal Legend. Countless times while playing my wife would storm in and say, "TURN IT DOWN!!!"

I have a feeling this doesn't need to be mentioned, but I want to anyway.

It's not my thing but listening to game music seems way less weird to me than a majority of the anime related stuff I see all the time on the net that seems widely accepted.

I remember back in the day playing Descent 2 on PC. The sound track to that was pretty damn amazing. But not enough for me to really start listening to the bands involved. Did make me more aware of them though. I was already into Type O Negative (or maybe Carnivore) and knew of Skinny Puppy but wasn't into them.

I remember listing to the CD on my computer while not playing games.

Descent 2 was one of the first games I ever played. I had that, Pitfall The Mayan Expedition, and Cyberia for our first PC.

The music was the one redeeming part of Halo 4. I especially loved the menu music.

I listen to a lot of video game music, but not necessarily in my car. It's mostly while I'm at work, or writing, or in the morning or something. Mostly RPG music because you can't knock Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy, or Secret of Mana. I'm also a fan of the soundtracks to FEZ and Dear Esther, even though those games were boring at best. I have over 1,000 songs on my Google Play library with more on my laptop at home.

The menu theme for Halo Wars 2 is especially good.

FF music is some of my favorite gaming music and I was stoked to find out that FFXV let you buy soundtrack samples in-game for previous FF games, but then I was disappointed when I found out that my favorite track from FF2 (FF4?) wasn't included. WTF.

I jam out to Dragon Age and Guild Wars music while I'm at work writing up reports and doing research. There's something soothing about that Western RPG music. Lord of the Rings is a no-go though, otherwise Ill start playing the movie in my head and mentally check out for a while

Really? Dang. FF2 on the SNES was my entry into RPGs along with Earthbound. Has some fantastic music.

Holy shit I guess I'm in the minority. I like when music adds to the games, and I can appreciate it in game, but I'd never be driving in my car listening to a game soundtrack.

^ You definitely are in the minority my friend. I love game soundtracks, whether sweeping landscapes, ambient Eno-esque stuff, epic tracks, or chip tunes - all are great background music.

Secret of Mana was the first game that ever hit me so hard I realized there was something powerful about gaming. That soundtrack and story had a very emotional effect. I felt for those 3 characters throughout that game. Listening to the sound track brings back all those feels. I played through that game 3 times back in 1st grade.

Does anyone know how to redeem microsoft point codes? Trying to buy one off a CAG and keep getting a "something went wrong" message. Thought I saw a workaround in a thread a month or two ago but can't find it.

Soundtrack talk. I won't listen to it in my car, usually don't like instrumental stuff while driving, except when I've listened to the Fury Road score while driving. I'll listen to them while at work, at home cleaning or whatever and playing multiplayer games that don't have huge scores. I've bought a few soundtracks on vinyl that I really like or just ones that are cheap. Jesper kyd has some great songs in the Assassin's Creed games and Powerglove did a fantastic job on blood dragon.

This thread reminded to check my FYE wishlist in the vain hope some poor fool sold them the Street of Rage 2 Soundtrack. Sadly, that day still has not come.

Youtube is a godsend for gaming OST. I used to pay like fucking $60 to import Final Fantasy, Street FIghter, Mega Man etc OSTs and now I can listen to them anytime I want for freeeeeee! I also have a loooooot of bootleg gaming OST. I don't really care now but I was pretty pissed back in like 2002 when I found out I was buying bootlegs and not the 'real' things. I ended up re-buying alot of soundtracks again just to have the official releases. Don't think it was worth it because most of these bootlegs actually had great packaging and sound quality.

The Halo 3:ODST soundtrack doesn't leave my car. Always here when I need it or the radio isn't cutting it.

Also, listening to music in the car reminds me of the time I was cranking "Greatest Journey pt 2" from Halo 3 and found myself pushing 90 on the highway. One of those tracks that makes you wanna go fast - and check the mirror to make sure the world isn't falling apart around you!

I listen to some OSTs when studying or writing papers. The Zelda symphony CD that came with Skyward Sword is a frequent favorite, and the arrangements are so beautiful it fills me with lots of nostalgia and emotions, just as strongly as any other music I really love.

Some of the FF piano arrangements are incredible, too. I also really love bands like Powerglove, I can listen to their first 2 albums back to back ad nausuem. Check the spoiler for Zelda and some heavy metal FF4 remixes, goddamn they are amazing.

EDIT holy shit, Powerglove has a new album coming out and they released a Metroid medley, my day just got so much better:

For newer stuff, Mick Gordon's Wolfenstein and Doom scores were excellent. The final track from The Old Blood was incredible:

Raise your hand if you are like me and play on mute - to avoid the kid getting up in the middle of the night and also to avoid being hit with flying sandals (by the wife).

everyone is mentioning OSTs but this guy Micheal Mac does some awesome video game remixes on guitar, the doom remix is just plain badass.

Speaking of Majora's Mask, have you heard the remix version of that soundtrack by Theophany? So good. They instrumentalized it up and their version of clock town used to be my alarm.
I haven't, but I'm going to change that.

Thankfully a friend showed me how to spot bootlegs on eBay. Paid the premium for a legit Majora's Mask soundtrack back in the day, even after I already had downloaded mp3s. (And I now have the Club Nintendo release.) Never felt comfortable with the prices on Kefka's Domain, though.

Nier Automata's music is really outstanding. Just sat and fished and listened to the music a few times.

Time to break out the spider headphones.

Thanks for this, this thread is getting too back on topic. Here is a little something more to further derail. I can't find where I can stream the entire soundtrack to the movie, but this is from the only anime movie soundtrack I own:

Just as a suggestion, I'd recommend checking out forums.ffshrine.org. That's where I get most of my soundtracks.

I'm not certain if this is against any ToS for this forum or anything, so if it is then whoever can feel free to delete this.

Wasn't Son May a big bootleg company? I think I remember that from back in the early 2000's.

While we're on the subject of Youtube metalhead gamers, this dude's "...Meet's Metal" series is incredible. He composes a full rendition and then plays the lead metal track on camera. He makes it look so easy, and he just grins the whole time like it's NBD.

#1 I'd still like to avoid the sandals.

#2 That may be the only way I'd ever get to the music part of the video games. Too bad I dont show the same agility to grab the headphones, that I show to grab the controllers. :)

I think the first soundtrack I ever really listened to was for Sonic Adventure. The lyrics are pretty corny, but I still really like it.

I have the halo action theme as my ringtone. Love that song.

Non gamers ask me if I was in the military

Gamers say hell yeah

I can't remember which guitar hero game it was but one of them had the halo theme on it I played the hell out of that song

I Only own one video game soundtrack and that's Jet Grind Radio. Besides that, I occasionally listen to the Killer Instinct soundtrack since it was added to Google Music and besides that I should pick up the Street Fighter III 3rd Strike soundtrack one day just to listen this nonstop...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw88zQTxq48

All this talk about video game music in the car and no one mentions this series:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nQxAYx56Sg

Shame on all of you.

Speaking of action driving songs:

Yeah and then the opposite side, just relax/study songs.

Then there's those songs you hear and you get instantly teleported back to the game and all the fond memories.

Jeremy Soule has done TA, Elder Scrolls, CoH, & GW - you've prob heard some of his stuff.

Rocket League got an update, most likely related to the Fate of the Furious DLC, 1.27GB fyi.

Just saw the purported specs for the scorpio through some "web crawling". Needless to say, the PS4 and even PS4 Pro are dead in terms of power. If Microsoft can get some more successful first party franchises.... man oh man.

game soundtracks def. castelvania bet everyone knows vampire killer

ohh and Jesper Kyd stuff tracks from Darksiders 2 damn legendary
