Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

it not having exclusive scorpio games works great for me and I'd assume a lot of not majority of other xbox owners that will just play their current into the ground, buy the scorpio when it's cheap and nearing the end of the generation and simply unplug the external full of games from the old into the new. I will be quite surprised if this thing turns into a success.

now if they change their mind when money gets waved at them to create exclusives for the system it changes things but I just think with diminishing graphic returns to the casual users with average setups this thing is destined to maybe not fail but certainly not be the success they are hoping for
It's definitely a pro-consumer move because it keeps people from being forced to upgrade to play new games. However, it's also a move that threatens to make Scorpio irrelevant before it even releases.

It'll be interesting to see how things shake out in the future. Are we headed toward the end of generational consoles and we'll just see periodic improvements like Scorpio? Otherwise, I can't see a reason why too many people (sure, a few would) would want to buy a reduced price Scorpio in 3-4 years right when a new console generation is about to begin.

My sense is that this "no-Scorpio exclusive games" is PR talk and a only a temporary mandate for developers. They want people to continue to buy the XB1. And they want to warm people up to the idea of Scorpio as a premium XB1 product and not a replacement (so they can charge a higher price at launch). As time goes on, I expect there will be Scorpio exclusive titles (maybe gimped for XB1, like how the original Titanfall was developed for XB1 then ported by another company to the 360). And I expect Scorpio to fall in price so that the masses can upgrade from the XB1 at a more reasonable price point.
I really can't see it happening any other way. Eventually, you'll see games that are technically playable on all Xbox One models, but with a giant freaking asterisk like with Titanfall or Shadow of Mordor for 360. It's going to be interesting for sure.

I should add that I'm not crapping on the Scorpio. Depending on the price point, I might be interested. Just from a business standpoint for MS, I don't really get it.

Sure hope they have some games to go with it...
It is a more powerful Xbox One. You already know the games. Some will perform better or be enhanced on Scorpio (Crackdown 3, Shadow of War). All of this 'where are the games' talk makes no sense.

For years people were all "lolol only 900p" and today that argument changed to "lol where are teh gamez?!"

Perhaps you will see "Better on Scorpio" banners on boxarts - but there will never be a game that only plays on Scorpio.

I like those specs for the Scorpio. Even though it'll be a pretty penny, the fact Microsoft can now say "third party games like FIFA, Call of Duty, Destiny, Madden, Wildlands, Battlefield, Battlefront, etc look & perform better on our console," THAT is their angle. MS doesn't have much outside Gears/Halo/Forza, so when other exclusives like Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, new Forza get shown off during E3 on Scorpio, people will buy it even if it is $600+.

Look no further than the Switch audience. Why pay for that when BotW, Fast Racing, Binding of Isaac, etc are all available on Wii U? For portability? Exclusives like 1 2 Switch or Bomberman for $50? I'm pretty sure a decent chunk of the Day One adopters have a Wii U or 2D/3DS. People will pay to play on the shiny new system.

MS has their dedicated crowd and as stated, Scorpio is a premium experience. Just like the Elite controllers. And I don't recall those flopping either. Scorpio and HaloLens will sell when they are released, regardless of the price.

So let me just point out one historical observation about the viability of Scorpio launching at $500+. Consoles that launched $100 or more than their competition at the time: NeoGeo $650 vs $200, 3DO $700 vs $200, Saturn $400 vs $300, PS3 $500/$600 vs $300. What happened to all of those consoles that were technologically superior? Through a combination of price and lack of software they fell right on their faces and only the PS3 really ever recovered and took 5-6 years of high quality exclusive software and price reductions.

With what they're talking about power wise they probably do have to sell it over $500 not to take a bath on each unit but they're going to have a really hard time with that. Even getting consumers educated about why it's worth the premium and to break the $400 price point ceiling is going to take a lot of time and money. Latest estimates seem to put Sony up 2:1 on install base so you need to pull some of those consumers back over too but they're going to have to have some Scorpio exclusive games that wouldn't even be possible on the other systems
Isn't this a little apples and oranges? I mean even if the scorpio is priced high, you have the xbox one s, that is in direct competition price wise. This is a premium item and will most likely be priced as so.

The reveal has so far sucked, and hasn't been anything we don't already know, was really hoping for a price point and release date.

The advantage they have vs all that history you brought up is that the Scorpio is a PREMIUM console that you have the option of spending a lot on or buying Xbox One S which plays all the same games just at lower resolution. With those consoles you had to fork over that amount to get into those eco-systems. With the Scorpio you have other options. I don't think they need to sell a lot of Scorpios, I think it's just an option like buying a standard controller vs an elite controller. Xbox seems to be building more of a product line and service with hardware options instead of just a console. It's like a PC line that is just focused in gaming and entertainment.

I'm in for Scorpio, hoping for a good trade in deal on one of my XB1S at Gamestop cause launch hardware is usually the only thing worth using my store credit on.

A better comparison is a reg Xbox controller to a Elite Xbox controller. Both get the job done but the Elite is better in every way, same way between Xbox S and the Scropio. Both will play the same game but the Scropio will be better in every way. If your inclined to buy a Elite then it stands you'll be the same when it comes to the Scropio.
I think the Scropio is coming out in 2025

Why do people keep going on about "they better have some Scorpion exclusive games!!!" ? Besides VR there isn't going to be any so just stop already. Like many have pointed out this is more akin to a someone buying an Elite Controller or upgrading a CPU or video card on your PC. Judging by the success that they had with the elite controller there is a viable market for them to cater to. This isn't console generations like in the past. I don't see this a harbinger of all of sudden MS is going to have a ton of AAA IP, but they will win the war of any multi-plat titles like the Fifas, Maddens, Call of Duty's of the world just with horsepower and to a certain segment of gamer that can be very appealing.

Perhaps you will see "Better on Scorpio" banners on boxarts - but there will never be a game that only plays on Scorpio.
Never is a strong word. I will not be at all surprised if Microsoft drops this restriction after a few years when the Scorpio pricing has come down to something more reasonable. Heck, they might even release a cost-reduced version rebranded as Xbox Two, then say to Scorpio owners, look, bonus for you, your console can also play Xbox 2 games!

I think that's a reasonable amount of time, like my old azz Iphone 4 can barely run the ios anymore and my computer hasn't fired up anything greater than counterstike in years

Here's a good summary video of it, with the guy from DF & Outside Xbox.

The much smaller install base of the Scorpio will be what keeps this from happening. For developers it makes more sense to develop the game to be the best it can on the two platforms that the vast majority have, default Xbox One and PS4. For our most recent example, the New 3DS had a grand total of ONE exclusive game, because developers want access to the millions of people on standard 3DS. And even then, Nintendo themselves made that game, and did not continue beyond that. I think Fire Emblem Warriors is exclusive as well, but that was because Hyrule Warriors ran like shit on the standard 3DS. The PS4 Pro has no exclusives.

I get the sense that a baseline 4K mode is not that difficult to add to a game that is still in development, especially if there is already a PC version that is going to need it. It makes a lot more sense to upscale than to make the game around the stronger hardware and try to scale it back.

Games like Titanfall and Destiny happened because they were so early in the generation of new consoles. Since Scorpio isn't a new generation, it's unlikely we'll see exclusive support beyond VR ports. It would send a message to Xbone owners that they lied about future support if Microsoft themselves did it, and third-party devs only stand to lose money.

Hopefully we won't see BC become something that is engineer-tested on Scorpio consoles and slip into exclusivity territory because of that...

Also, I didn't see/hear any specific mention of the HDMI In port going away, but the fact that it mirrors the back of the Xbox One S sounds to me like it's still there.

EDIT - Have I mentioned how much I hate scrolling too far into an article and finding shit links like these at the bottom?

Well it's a good thing I didn't buy an Xbox One at this point because the Scorpio (which I thought was going to be a new console) sounds like the machine to get. 4K doesn't matter to me; I just want a machine with great games.

At what price?  Well, I bought a PS4 at $399 since it had Batman printed on it and a Batman video game included.  Unless Microsoft does something similar, I'll wait for $299.

What they really need to figure out is the internet in general with the massive games and data caps

I don't have one because I have the world's slowest wifi and live in the mountains but even then I'd take slow over cap any day because it's one less worry in my life but the world isn't caught up with internet access for this new shit

Not sure what the solution is there but it's only getting worse so something has to give eventually

Considering Sony fans crow about Xbox running lower resolution on multiplatform, when the shoe's on the other foot it'll be funny when it's suddenly not as important.

it was the other way around when most multi platform games looked and ran better on 360 than PS3

Forza Horizon 3: Any night owls want to do the race challenge tonight? I'm usually on when they go live around 1:00am Pacific.

Don't think I can win an online race legit. Randoms are way too good. Not sure how their cars are so fast with similar specs to mine. I even download highly rated tuning.

Also looking for Drivatar friends to add.

HDMI in is still present

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-project-scorpio-tech-revealed

It was also heartening to see that Microsoft has retained an internal power supply: in this case, a 245W universal voltage PSU that Del Castillo reckons is the most efficient in Xbox history. On the rear of the unit, the arrangement of ports is identical to Xbox One S, including the standard figure-eight power socket (as opposed to the much larger 'kettle' cable arrangement used on PS4 Pro). The thinking here is that those who've plumbed their Xbox One S into their AV set-up can swap over to Scorpio with next to no effort. Since port arrangement is based on Xbox One S, there's no return for the original Xbox One's Kinect port (a USB adapter is required) but the HDMI input is retained. The final form factor - the 'ID' as Microsoft calls it - will be revealed at E3, where we suspect you will be pleasantly surprised.

If you guys are serious about waiting for $299 on a $499 console then you might as well wait for the Xbox Two. Xbone was able to drop so dramatically by cutting out hardware no one wanted, Scorpio probably won't be able to get lower than $400, even there they'd probably be taking a loss, maybe breaking even.  The best deal for the first two years will probably be like a $50 price drop or a decent bundle.

You do remember that the PS3 was $600 at launch and the Xbox One was $500 at launch and the PS4 was $400 at launch?

Consoles drop within 2-3 years, unless it's Nintendo and you just don't make very much supply. The components going into the Scorpio will be cheap 3 years after its launch when people are buying 8K TVs and 8K is the new hotness. Fall of 2020 would be 3 years after Scorpio launch.

The Xbox One had a smaller replacement going for $299 3 years after launch.

At that point the machine with the better specs was $100 cheaper though. I had both a PS3 and 360 last gen (2 of each over the years). Played more on 360. Didn't think it made sense to pay $100 more for less specs and a stupid Kinect. I picked up a cheap used Kinect ($19 I think at Game Stop around BF) and other then voice commands in FH3 I don't use it. For $20 I don't regret it though. For $100 I would be kicking myself.

For all but the most hard core (and most of them are on PC) gamer price AND performance matter. I even briefly (like a week) considered getting back into PC gaming. But honestly after working in IT during the day I like being able to come home flip on either console and play a game for an hour before dinner. Not having to dick around with graphics card driver issues, windows updates and all the other stuff.

If I had a 4K set in my gaming room and this comes in at $500 or so I would be all over it for sure. Maybe even trade my PS4 towards it. But like most gamers I don't have a 4k set.

Is the latest TWD game one of those Telltale games you can keep playing after removing the disc? I remember to hear something like that about their previous games but they haven't finished making this one yet (afaik)

I am actually trying to convert more to PC gaming. I got a pretty decent PC for 550 total, i7-6700 and 1050ti in a HTPC case, and would really like to move that way because a lot of Sony Exclusives are getting PC releases and if XBOX releases more play anywhere, it's almost the dream console I have been waiting for.

Also, I wonder if microsoft will cut the UHD blu ray player from scorpio. I didn't see it confirmed in the specs, but could have missed it, I listened to the two videos while doing homework. It would make sense tho if it were cut. It would lower costs, and it would keep the xbox one s still relevant.

It's still listed in the specs as having 4K Blu-ray. Cutting it would not make sense. The Xbox One S is still relevant because it will be a lot cheaper.

As talked about in this video, yes they still have the UHD Blu-ray drive.

The biggest thing for me #4, since I don't have a 4K TV set atm, the system will accommodate 1080P TVs to downsampling the 4K resolution for you automatically (with the support of the devs of course). HUUUUGEE

Yup, they are not leaving 1080p peasants like us in the dust with the Scorpio. We still get a more than quality experience with what we have.

I have my sights set on an OLED before the Fall though. I'm picturing playing Gears 4 Horde and Escalation on that thing. Woooooo shit *Obama wiping brow. jpg*

PS3 took forever to drop to a competitive price, two years to reach $400, and was getting annihilated by 360 the entire time because of it. PS4 took two years to drop $50. Xbone was only able to drop so shortly because of Kinect, and was desperate to turn around the huge negative backlash they had.

I didn't say never, I said not before the two year mark anyways. Three years from now Xbox Two may very well be out.

8K TVs aren't going to be produced for the mass market consumer until the broadcast infrastructure catches up to at least 4K first and 4K TVs have sold in the 100s of millions.

There's also that "development was hell" for the PS3, with the cell chip and all, that also led for the 360's dominance.

Three years from now will we see a portable Xbox screen/controller?

Speaking of Blu Ray, how does the Xbox One play Blu Ray discs compared to the PS4?   I ask because the Xbox 360 plays DVD's better than any machine I've owned.

Seriously. I've had problems with DVD players dating back to the PS2 whereas the 360 loads them faster than anything else I've used. Plus I have had loading errors with the PS3 trying to play Blu Ray movies (including games) so I wonder if the Xbox One is built a little better in that department.

I dont play FH3, but they really activate races that late in the night/early in the morning? Or is that just the only time you're able to play?

Forzathons are on the weekend so that's when it kicks off, switches on the servers.

I've used my Xbox One to play my Blu-ray movies, haven't had a problem ever. In fact the only problem I had was when I tried to play my copy of The Expanse Blu-ray on my parent's Blu-ray player and it didn't work. Granted their player has never been hooked up online so there's no firmware updates on it. I've used it on my Xbox One and it ran fine, shrugs.

PS3's been the best out there for me.

My fat ps2 is still super reliable with DVDS. I have cleaned the lens on it 3 times (huge pain in the ass btw). I have never had problems that I can recall, but never really watched dvds since the ps2 era.

Good to see the Scorpio will still have UHD, guess I missed it while listening. The reason that the launch ps3 was super expensive is on Sony. Instead of using resources for their team to figure out how to emulate it (which it is totally capable of) they were lazy and just shoved the ps2 hardware into a ps3 and passed the cost onto consumers.

Amidst all the Scorpio talk, I have my update on FFXIII:

I just finished disc one (chapter 4), and unless I missed it all, I don't think I've found a single side quest yet. It's basically been one long "hallway" taking me from point a to b. At least I'm used to the fighting system now, although the story is still kind of confusing and there's only one good character and two tolerable ones so far.

That's what it is for the first many hours and why so many people hated it. The characters are mostly pretty unlikable too.

Sony has much more of a reputation for copying stuff like that. MS has been pretty firm on their lack of interest in handheld gaming.

Even with the game "opens up" late, late, late in the game it's already...well, too late. The characters don't really get any better and if anything I think they get worse. The world will not fault you for quitting because looking back, lord knows I should've instead of beating it.

8K TVs aren't going to be produced for the mass market consumer until the broadcast infrastructure catches up to at least 4K first
Yes, just like they waited for 4K to be a widely adopted standard before they started forcing it down our throats.

Manufacturers will push the next best standard as soon as the numbers are favorable for them. They don't care if it makes sense, if the broadcast standards are properly lined up, or if other consumer electronics are ready to handle it.

Ridiculous but real.

"All existing Xbox games (including Xbox One Backward Compatible titles) will run smoother, look better and load faster without requiring an update or any work from developers. All games running on Project Scorpio will achievemore consistent framerates, faster load times, improved anisotropic filtering, and will run at their peak resolution if the title implemented dynamic scaling. In addition, developers will also have the option to update existing titles to further take full advantage of Project Scorpio’s advanced capabilities including full 4K assets and 4K resolution."

Improvements right out of the gate, damn.
