Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

I Beat Breath of the Wild on my WiiU and my experience playing that, it never felt like it was in anyway an inferior game for being on an underpowered console compared to the Switch. Tech comparisons also seem to say the same thing so if you got the time to invest and get immersed in a game I highly recommend it since it's alot of game and feels like a Souls-lite game with it's heavy emphasis on parry'ing and dodging if you want to make it through some of the battles in the beginning.

And honestly having both a PS3 and PS4, I can kinda say just go and get a PS4. Majority of PS4 games are getting rereleased and only a small handful of big exclusives (Metal Gear Solid 4, Demon Souls, etc.) haven't made the jump, but there's enough of a library of exclusive games that I can say there's enough that can give serious play time, especially if you never got a PS3.
I put 60 hours in on Wii and started over on Switch when I got it last week. The resolution bump isn't that noticeable itself, but the extreme frame drops in certain areas like Kakariko Village and the Korok forest are much better on Switch. Wii U holds up fine overall, and if anyone has the console and doesn't intend on getting a Switch any time soon I'd say just go for it.

I do have to say I vastly prefer the Wii U Pro controller over the Switch Joy-Cons though. Hard to justify buying the Switch Pro when I paid $35 for the previous one new.

As far as Xbox related talk, Sonic Mania is coming up fast now. I was planing to play through 1, 2, CD, and 3 & Knuckles but now I'm not sure I'll have the time in two weeks.

After a little more PoE I bought the War Machine pack for Marvel and am having lots of fun with him. Game has crashed on me twice tonight, freeze/hum and quit to dash.

Whomever was raving about King's Quest, thank you! I've been playing it with my son all weekend and we just beat the first chapter! We can't wait to start chapter 2 next Friday! All the puns have been making him crack up!

I loved playing through King's Quest. It has a huge heart, lots of charm, beautiful art and stellar voice acting. Subsequent chapters mix things up a little to keep the gameplay fresh, the first one is the more traditional of the five. Sadly, the fourth chapter is a disappointment but it didn't tarnish the overall experience.

tl;dr, it's the closest thing we'll ever get to The Princess Bride: The Game.

Played some Fortnite last night with Gurren. Consider me officially on the Fortnite hype train. The crafting in the game seems really deep, can't wait to spend more time with it tonight

Someone on ebay has Forza Horizon 2 codes and has been selling them since at least November. I remember seeing these listings and deciding not to spend the money, but they've clearly had them regularly available for over 6 months now - currently selling for $10. How likely is it that these are stolen vs being a cdkeys type situation? I figure if they were, the seller wouldn't always have 1-2 codes for sale and might sell other games too - FH2 isn't exactly in high demand these days. Feedback is nothing but FH2 sales forever.

Think its legit?

Maybe a former employee stole a box of codes :)

Maybe they are maybe they are not, is it worth the risk?me personally if I was interested I'd but it but redeem on a dummy account. That way if they suspend account/revoke license it happens to your dummy account.

I still like that blue Xbox One Gamestop sells.

I can afford the $279.99 but something tells me I should wait.

What is that something? I'd really like to own this.
I almost grabbed this one. Ended up with the BF1 green edition since GS didn't wanna give me a deal, and it's so damn handsome.

I have no idea why everyone thinks the colors are so awful while touting the merits of the standard white console. White is the worst color by far. no idea what ms was thinking with that one.

It's a proven console sales trick as old as time.

If you release a white console at launch, release a special black version later on.

If you release a black console at launch, release a special white version later on.

Either way, people will "ooh" and "ahh" and proclaim how sexy the new version is.

I got the white one at the s launch on cause I wanted the 2tb drive and ended up being only marginally more expensive than the 1 tb at target.
When my son's launch xbone drive went bad I took it to gamestop and there just happened to be a Microsoft employee there that brokered getting me the blue one for about $80 out of pocket. Having the physical game and matching controller sold me. I considered the drab green battlefront model as well, but figured I would actually play gears if I got it, which still hasn't happened

Maybe they are maybe they are not, is it worth the risk?me personally if I was interested I'd but it but redeem on a dummy account. That way if they suspend account/revoke license it happens to your dummy account.
Saving ~$10 (based on what I see for used copies) definitely isn't worth risking an account ban, nope. But you're right, a dummy account would still give me access to it on my own console. Hmmm.

Has anyone ever been banned over using a code though? I know MS can revoke stuff that goes up for free by mistake (Fallout 4, the Smite extras, that F13 Jason skin last week, etc) but I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for using a code they purchased no matter how sketchy the source. How the heck can Microsoft possibly question the origin of all their codes when they can change hands so easily?

There have been a few cases where someone bought a code from a very shady site (I think it's all been G2A) where a code is linked to a stolen credit card and MS auto-bans them. Since the third party you purchased it from isn't part of the beginning and end result (they know which code was issued to the credit card purchase, and they see who redeemed it, but they don't know where you got it) the end-user is usually shit outta luck.

One such situation:
https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/693doi/suspended_from_xbox_live_due_to_g2a_keys/

It really sucks that a site like G2A could look legit and that end users would be experiencing the consequences of other people's theft when the buyer wasn't doing anything wrong, they just thought they found a good deal. I definitely don't want to give money to pirates, and I most definitely don't want my account compromised.

If buyers were getting in trouble for using those FH2 keys then you can bet there'd be some negative reviews or the account would have been suspended.

Post of the day, even though I have the HW2 bundle in a box upstairs. At least it isn't glossy!

I couldn't do the dummy account thing because it would clutter up my list of accounts. I guess you could add the account, redeem the code, make that console the account's home console, then remove the account (maybe?).

I need to play Breath of the Wild. Have a WII u already, so no excuse not to play it.

I'm looking into get a PS4 very soon because I'm craving more Souls games and want Bloodborne. I'm wondering if a Ps3 with Demon Souls would be cheaper and offer a more Dark Souls like experience. The PS4 I'm looking at is about $270 at Walmart and includes an Uncharted game. I'd prefer something closer to $200 since I may only be using the console for one game, but maybe wife will use it more. Also considering going back and getting all gamerscore in DS3 or dlc in DS1.

Sounds like Dungeon Defenders 2 is playable, so I might start that with my wife. We loved the first game.

Received Super Cloudbuilt as a gift. Interesting and challenging from what I've played so far.

Also working on Tekken 7 story. I've had the game for awhile, but have been insanely busy at work. Love my job, started in March, but it is extremely stressful and depressing at times (foster care case manager). Don't feel much like doing much lately except spend time with my wife.

We did her immigration interview on Tuesday and passed with more than enough evidence to prove our marriage is real. We met on a Windows Central Twitch stream in fall 2015.
I have a PS4 I will glady sell you for $200. The wife just had to have it to play little big planet.........and has used it a total of one time

Comes w/ an extra controller and dragon age

For me personally, I could care less about the console color because after a week or so I barely notice it. If it plays games or whatever then that's all I care about, but that console design excitement dies pretty quick for me.

Yeah, I personally dig black just because then it will match other appliances (TV, cable box, other consoles, etc.). When I was younger I may have been into something like a custom Gears console but stuff like that wouldn't look right in my living room, lol. Plus I feel like if you get a custom console related to a new game release, that game better end up being your favorite game of all time. Imagine having a Crackdown 3 console or something and then the game ends up being kinda meh.

Or that Gems of War console that they were using in contests a while back. Yikes...I'd buy a console skin so fast if I had won that, haha.

My aversion to the white console aside, it is the only color of console with which I would consider using this particular accessory:

I just wonder how flimsy that thing is...
I had the one for the OG X1. They may have improved it, but the little pieces of plastic that hold the batteries in place don't do a good job of holding the batteries in so they often pop out while charging.

I only buy special consoles for what is included extra, not the color of the console. I'd buy a hot pink console with barbie sticking her finger down her throat throwing up into a toilet below with the text "Being skinny is the only way to live" pasted all over it, so long as it contained a special edition of Barbie Horse Adventures with a BDSM Ken skin! "Whip Ken in Style with this limited edition red leather outfit and riding crop"

I have some questions regarding the 360 and external drives. I've been using a couple of sticks, but with GWG and all I am full up.

What are the pros/cons of usb powered vs ac powered externals? Do usb powered ones require (work better with) a Y-cable (I remember hearing something about this but it may have been in reference to the Wii U)? I also kinda remember someone mentioning always using a usb hub with an external, but don't remember the context or why. If it makes any difference, I have an old elite, right before they released the slim redesign.

I would prefer a usb powered external if all else is equal. This is the one I am currently eyeing: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FRHTTIU/ref=twister_B07454F4JH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&coliid=I26JHK297XMU3N&colid=2EDX44VU66CPT

I also heard everything can be moved to the external. Is this like everything everything, profile and all? Like, if my current 360 blows up (this is my fourth, three before red-ringed), I can transfer my license to another 360, plug in the external, and am ready to go? If so, I plan on doing that and just have disc installs on the internal drive.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Wii U is the only console that has issues with USB-powered drives. I have a 2TB WB Passport Ultra on my 360, which is USB-powered and it's never been an issue. Doesn't need a Y-cable for power, been that way since the 360 was able to use external drives.

Whatever you're smoking to come up with ideas like this, you really need to share.

Yep. It was designed as a thing to import profiles on memory cards (remember those? the 360 had 512MB memory cards) so if you went to a friend's house, you could bring your controller or memory card and activate your profile on their system. Works the same way if you bought a new one, although the profile data comes from MS anyway so on a new system you could just download it when logging in and the licenses would activate.

And to echo shrike, USB powered drives work just fine.

I'd politely ask the seller what the source of the codes is, apologizing for coming across as suspicious and explaining I'd heard the horror stories. If he didn't answer, legit or not, I'd steer well clear. Who knows, he may be a nice guy who offers you a perfectly sound and straightforward explanation.

idk where the usbs are on the s but where do you hook that up?
The USB this thing uses is on the front of the console near the left edge. That would allow the bulk of this thing to sit just to the left of the console.

The version of this that works for the VCR model just plugs right into the side and fits very tightly. I've had two of those on two console and on both you have to grip it and rip it and hope you don't pull off the plastic on the side of the console.

But the fact that this is on sale and comes with two batteries for $15, I think I might be stopping at my local store to pick one up.

A friend of mine bought some XBL Gold off eBay a few years ago. The seller made him suspicious for some reason so he called Microsoft and had them check the code before using it, saying it was a gift or bought online or something. They said it was stolen, and actually gave him a new code. I think it was from a physical card that was never activated at a store, but it may have been digitally bought somewhere with a stolen card. It was probably 4 or so years back so my memory is fuzzy.

Back in the day I ignorantly purchased a few of those XBL accounts that came loaded with like 80000 MS points. I didn't really think too much about where those accounts with a shitload of money were coming from at the time but they were definitely set up with stolen CCs. Once I put two and two together I used to always worry that I'd lose my account as a result, but I think nothing happened because everything was always purchased under the sketchy gamertag and not my own.

I kinda knew about loading your profile on another machine to get achievements and such, but I remember having to contact Microsoft about a license transfer when getting a new (refurbished) console after the red-rings. I'm guessing that needs to be done to have the game licenses tied to the console also instead of just your profile. What i was wondering, if I was in that situation, could I just plug in the external after a license transfer instead of having to use the hard drive transfer cable or re-downloading the games to tie them to the console.

Yeah really sucks MS still does this. They should just revoke the licenses or give you the opportunity to pay the balance back. For example if you bought $200 in MS Live credit and the codes were stolen give you the choice of paying the $200 (or have it removed from your account balance if not used) vs banning the whole account. Silly that MS (and I guess Sony) can't get these sites shut down or do something else to shutdown fraudulent/stolen codes. Last year people were buying Gears 4 codes for like $15 at launch. As far as I know no one was banned and most (all?) those licenses were just revoked. Doubly dumb now that Live currency can be used towards real physical purchases.

I have bought a couple time from cdkeys but always heard that G2A is fishy as hell. Not sure if CDKeys is legit or not but haven't heard of anyone getting banned from codes they got there. Like everything YMMV.

CDKeys seems to have a solid reputation, a lot of the codes they have in excess were pack-in titles (MCC) or sold very poorly (AC Unity) and I assume there were just an excess of codes generated which didn't get used and resellers bought them in bulk. New releases rarely sell for insanely low prices on CDKeys whenever I look on there, so it seems safe. Have a few random things from them too and it all seems fine.

The Gears 4 thing - it was on a mass scale so it was never linked to a single instance of CC fraud which is why they just revoked the licenses.

You may still have to call, but I bet by now you can establish a system as your primary within the OS or on the website. Otherwise, you have to be signed into XBL and be online for the license to be verified for digital stuff, which is pretty annoying. I have no idea what that process is like now on the 360.

The gears 4 things was different than just stealing CC numbers. It was a promo that gave a free W10 copy of the game with purchase of a gpu. People were ordering the gpu, getting the codes then canceling their orders, so there was never any actual money exchanged for those purchases. In the case of a stolen CC number MS is at least being paid for their goods. The Gears 4 thing would have been catastrophic if they honored it because they would have millions of games "sold" but they would have never actually received any money for all those copies.

It shows they can easily revoke the licenses that they deem stolen/not legit. How did anyone think these $15 codes they got on Ebay were legit? A $60 game for $15 at launch? Actually before?

Anyway I doubt I will buy from CDKeys either at this point. Not worth it for a few bucks. 1 of the 2 games I bought there I haven't even played.

I thought I heard MS had eased up on the ban hammer this gen. Guess that isn't true.

So no I would buy a digital code for FH2 somewhere for $10. Wait for it to go on sale again on Live (was $20 back in mid June) or buy a physical copy.

Saving $10 or so isn't worth the risk IMO.
