Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Oh I see. I thought you were talking battle royale fortnight.

If the progression is just too slow, it stops my enjoyment. And I am less likely play at all. Gears Horde mode, for example. Fantastic gameplay, but as someone who games after the kids are asleep only, I need more XP from a four hour session than it gives to keep me in the “loop”.

As a result, I only play it once in a blue moon, certainly not engaged enough to actually pay for anything extra because it doesn’t capture my attention.
The Battle Royale is separate from the main Fortnite game. In regular Fortnite there are times where you pretty much have to just do missions to grind for mats and not even progress. It's not the worst game ever but it suffers from it's problems.

At least with Battlefront 2, you still progress every game in some way.

That’s a good point, I didn’t realize that until I got to Autocross rival events and I could use a rental. Oh well. Lord knows I need that 700 car cheevo and I gotta get there somehow.

In a way, it’s advantageous to buy as many as you can early, as it seems the level up discount you get on cars is better each time your car collector level goes up.
The car level discount caps at $400,000 eventually.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet. Is anyone THIS much of a Forza Motorhead?

Love Forza and love the controller, puked a bit when I saw the price. I don't even use my current elite controller enough to even think of justifying this.

Also LOL at them including the tiny little model car that was given away at GameStop I think. Doesn't quite help justify that $370 price tag.

Just to weigh in on the loot crate discussion over the last two pages...

Buying loot crates with in-game money is not the issue. Having them available with real money is the issue (with balance).

Here’s why:
If the loot crates can be purchased with in game credits only and players say they are frustrated at how slow they are and don’t want to play anymore, the game devs can re-balance the drop rate or the credit cost etc to keep the game moving at an enjoyable (but still slow enough to be rewarding) pace.

If they are available for real money, the game devs just see the gamers complaints about the boring or slow slog that isn’t fun and then shrug their shoulders and say “well that’s not true but if you feel it is, you can just buy some crates”

Actually, they aren’t just doing that, it’s worse because they are actually incentivized to slow the pace too far specifically so that players will want to buy crates for real money.

If crates could ONLY be purchased with in game credits, then pretty much every single game with crates like that would have them much cheaper and drop more often.

Agree with most of your points except that they do rescale the economies in games, even if you can spend money on crates. The key is their engagement data. If people are dropping off or becoming disengaged with the game, then they will rebalance.

Where I do agree is that, because of the money, they rank Game engagement along side purchasing engagement, which may be more elastic for a publisher. I.e, it may be fine they lost many gamers due to disengagement so long as the sales of loot crates or whatever meet expectations.

Agree that it is a huge problem overall. But spenders are gonna spend if they are spenders (is my non-data assertion). So they should balance for the players first, and let the spenders spend if they want to anyway.

When the games are balanced in that direction, it feels fine. See: Forza 6 and 7.

Added thought - the rebalance Blizzard did to Diablo 3 when they killed the real money action house proves that, if your game holds up to the test of time, you can drop item monetization and rebalance to a player’s benefit and sell it forever.

But maybe only Blizzard can really make those games or afford to do that now.

I actually think Fortnite is much worse than SWBF II. Yes, there are mechanics behind loot crates in SWBF II, but if your really skilled at the game, you can at least be decently competitive.

Fortnite has this issue that the best heroes are behind loot boxes and only the highest tier of heroes can be upgraded to max level. While Fortnite is PvE, there is a point where having the best hero can really effect progression. Plus every weapon/trap/etc is pretty much behind some form of loot boxes. SWBFII gives you some things loot free.
I don't know what you mean here, I think you're misinformed because you're giving misinformation. You can grab any weapon from storage chests, treasure chests found on the map in-game, free via gameplay. If you play with headphones, or like I do with a 7.1 headset, you'll be able to hear the treasure chests that are usually behind objects or sometimes hidden in the attic of houses and what not (it's reminiscent of how I hunted down Ability Orbs in Crackdown haha). I haven't gotten a high tier level hero that can break the game or limit my progression. In-fact you can get a high rarity character, I chose one a hero I couldn't use yet as it was locked. SO that might be a big design thing that the developers are still working out but from my experience what you said is not possible - and in-fact a higher rarity hero would give you easier opportunity for progression with better stats.

Fortnite currently costs $40 with the base game or up to $140 for different versions. It will be F2P next year according to Epic. The problem Fortnite has is if you don't get the right items from loot boxes, your not exactly screwed but it makes the game more of a pain in the ass. I got to the point in Fortnite where I felt like it was either spend a lot of time grinding or just stop playing.

At least with BFII if I get it, no MP content (as of maps or game modes) is level locked. So I can at least try and be competitive.
Aside from the great perks and unlocks you get from purchasing the founder's edition they've got daily rewards. Just play and you can build up a few consecutive bonuses like free llamas, survivors, etc. Not following you with the maps and game modes being restricted, do you mean Save the World if you just pick up the free Battle Royale? If so, I don't think your comparison works here. Also the game was $30, that's when I picked it up and I've gotten a load of enjoyment out of it as well as enjoyed the freebies that came trickling out daily. The standard edition was on sale at $24 a while ago too.

I find my love of the game (and yes I'm talking about the PvE mode Save the World) and say something like Borderlands, Diablo, etc is that I don't mind repetitive gameplay if it's fun and yeah it'll have loot in the end. I enjoy gathering resources, scavenging supplies/finding survivors and crafting weapons/traps and designing a base defense for the hordes of husks. There's a good variety of those guys to keep things entertaining as well (the new event was a breath of fresh air as there were a few new enemies added to the mix). The defense missions will take a bit longer (maybe 30 - 45 mins) - depending on however all the players want to go about it because you can do the objective right away or prepare and build up before pulling the trigger - but you can go and run through a search for survivor or hunt for encampments mission in about 15 minutes. That said they could have upped the amount of candy rewards during this event but that's most likely tied to the microtransactions that also are present in this game which will be free to play later (however we're seeing that with games that are not F2P). So ..shrug.

Speaking loot crates, COD WW2 does it right: purely cosmetic. The game is awesome btw. No more wall running jet pack crap. Graphics are great, and I even enjoyed playing some zombie mode (which I rarely do), split screen wth my daughter. Already up to level 37 in multiplayer, mostly FFA. Highly recommended.

Yeah... Fortnite has spent a lot of time balancing the crates. I've spent exactly $20 on crates - and that was just on 2 special hero crates. The drop rates for legendary heroes in the special events has been very high. I've got something like 14 legendary heroes now. Of course, I've also played probably 200 or 250 hours...

I'm pretty impressed with CoD, too. The crate stuff is just cosmetic, banners or weapons that give you a 10% XP boost or XP/Weapon XP boosts. They don't even have the store open yet. That's how it should be done...

That’s exactly how loot crates should be — cosmetic. I think games that do that, like Overwatch, it actually earns the trust of gamers and people who would be turned off by them might still throw a bit of cash towards them. And the big spender “whales” will also still probably buy a lot.

Anything that affects gameplay is bullshit, especially in games that aren’t F2P.

Got off of work and missed the Gears 4 Torque bow. Damn that was fast. Did they only release a 1,000!?

On the SW BF2 Front. I didn't buy the first one till it was $4..... I'm probably gonna wait for the same price point on this one with the way things are looking.

I noticed Castle Crashers Remastered is $10 off right now, down to 4.99. Store Parser is unaware apparently, still shows full price there. I don't know how frequently it's updated. I already own the original, don't really see a reason to get the remaster.

Mayhaps the discount for owning the :360: version is still active?

They said last year would be like that, then they started selling power. Interesting, the objective mode is what caught my interest. Smells like RTCW with the former Raven devs on the team.

i'm curious when you bought and installed halo 5. also, is it disc or digital? i'm trying to establish a pattern where games only say scorpio if they were installed after the x1x launch
Perhaps stupidly, earlier today I did a full console wipe back to factory, and formatted my external drive as well before I tested further...so my testing now may actually be getting different results than what I had occurring yesterday. But at this point I'm so annoyed about how inconsistent and confusing the information we're getting is that I was willing to just go nuclear with my attempts to resolve it.

Anyway, after wiping everything and reinstalling/redownloading a few titles, I think Titanfall 2 should be good now (I compared the size of the install with a friend's and they were the same) - it still does not say that Durango or Scorpio assets are installed, BUT, since the official XBox One X Enhanced listing for the game says it's enhanced only - meaning no HDR or 4k, so this is likely as it should be (as mentioned a couple days ago). Still doesn't explain why others are seeing something different, but more on that in a second.

Here's what I've got right now. I've included testing I did on my friend's console as well to compare. Spoiler'd since I know a bunch of you guys probably don't care about this stuff.

Halo 5 - installed+updated size = 97.2 GB
*Xbox site says this game is enhanced with 4K.

Installed from disc. Displays X1XE: True. Displays "Xbox-Scorpio" as "Applied."

Other console: Installed from disc. Displays X1XE: True. Displays "Xbox-Durango" as "Applied."

Titanfall 2 - installed+updated size = 68.7 GB
*Xbox site says this game is enhanced, but not with 4K or HDR.

Downloaded (EA Access) - Displays X1XE: True, does not display any applied asset information

Other console: Installed from disc. Displays X1XE: True. Displays Xbox-Durango" as "Applied."

Killer Instinct - installed+updated size = 47.1 GB
*Xbox site says this game is enhanced with 4K.

Downloaded. Displays X1XE: True, does not display any applied asset information

Other console: not tested

Hitman - (trial/demo) - installed+updated size = 21 GB
*Xbox site says this game is enhanced, with both 4K and HDR.

Downloaded. Displays X1XE: True, does not display any applied asset information

Other console: not tested

Rise of the Tomb Raider - installed+updated size = 30.5 GB
*Xbox site says this game is enhanced, with both 4K and HDR.

Installed from disc. Displays X1XE: True. Displays "Xbox-Scorpio" as "Applied."

Other console: not tested

So, Halo 5, Killer Instinct, Hitman, and RotTR should theoretically be applying something since they're all 4k. For me, Halo 5 and RotTR are doing so. KI and Hitman are not...at least according to the menu.

As has already been mentioned by others, some of this may fall on the start+select+bumpers menu data being buggy or just not being consistent across consoles (CoD WWII as an example of something not being displayed properly). I guess there isn't much else anyone can do at this point other than wait and see what happens.

I love this sytem, but I gotta say things like this should've been worked out before launch.

Gears 4 London stream is going again.  Nuclear Embar and Boomshot will be available.  New York and Mexico City streams start at 11am Eastern, California at 1:30pm Eastern.

Anyone know if there's a place to check your bing rewards order history? I'm looking arount but can't find anything.

Yesterday I ordered 4 $10 gift cards but only received 3 e-mails.

this rollout reminds me of apple's itunes 4k launch.

Just wait and you should get the other one 24 hours after you placed the order.

Go to bing, click on your rewards points, click see all offers in the small box that pops out, scroll down and on the right you should see your last order, beside that click see all.

Just LA Noire for me this week. Anything for you guys?

I wouldn’t mind checking out road rage since it looks like the spiritual successor to road rash, but I can wait for a price drop. Although that $5 Microsoft gave out is burning a hole in my digital wallet. Must wait for the holiday sale.

Just watched some gameplay of Road Rage. Definitely looks...low budget (reflected in the price, of course). I don’t know. Didn’t look very good. Might wait and see how reviews pan out. Might be one to wait for $10.

Tempted by LA Noire. Have so much on my plate, spent so much with the X and planning to pick up a few more in BF sales. Hmm...

If you can tolerate a Forbes article you can have a read but this guy is saying the X1X 4K Blu-ray is absolute trash. I do not have a 4K TV (yet) but can anyone comment on the playback of the player?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2017/11/12/the-xbox-one-x-4k-blu-ray-player-is-a-disaster/#29f07a882bde
I don’t agree with this guy at all. Image looks fantastic to me. And even this What Hi-Fi article, while not saying it is fantastic, says it is much improved from the S (the opposite of what Forbes is saying). And TBH, I always thought the S looked great as well.

https://www.whathifi.com/microsoft/xbox-one-x/review

What Hi-Fi is a site devoted to TV, video and audio reviews so I’d trust their reviews over Forbes. That review mention issues with Netflix. That app has been updated since launch and I thought it looked good (non-HDR which they said was causing problems) so think that was fixed.

Even the drive’s firmware could be updated to improve it.

I will say there seems to be some audio lag when I play plan old normal DVDs (voice not quite matching to audio), which is odd, but I rarely play anything but Blu-rays and 4K Blu-rays.

Rocket League players, the World Championship is going on this weekend, and you can possibly get free in game items during the stream.

You need to link your twitch account to your gamertag here: https://rewards.rocketleague.com/

and then be on the RL twitch page during the stream here: https://go.twitch.tv/rocketleague

You don't actually have to participate or anything, so you can just leave the stream up. The rewards are completely random though...you might get 1 or 2 items, or you might not get anything at all.
Rocket League finals today, last chance to possibly get a free item. Stream just started.

Have a vacation coming up soon, so I don't want to spend any money. Will probably end up getting a PS4 on Black Friday for Bloodborne. Also really want to get Sims 4 for my wife.

Late to the party. Tried Halloween Fortnite content last night. Wife and I loved it. Switched to Llamurai and accidentally put my main hero in collections, so now I'm a Llamurai for the foreseeable future.

Road Rash was my jam back on the Genesis and wanted Road Rage but after that video it's going to be a hard pass. Looks like a og xbox game. LA Noire and The Sims 4 I'll pick up when on sale.

Yup, this happened to me. I didn't get two of mine until the next day.

Thank you! The order is there but still hasn't come through. I'll give it some time and see if it shows up.

Finally got the nightmare download of Quantum Break done and played the first act, which is pretty good so far. The first episode looked bad for a 76 GB download, as it looks like very grainy, low resolution video I'd expect from a sketchy streaming site.

Nuclear Embar is up in the Mexico City stream.  Missed it's window in the New York stream.

Edit: Already ended after 12-13 minutes.

Well, I was going to sub to EA Access for a month to try out BF II, but you can't use Microsoft credit to sub.

Was planning on using my $5 credit from xbox. Might as just outright by the game then.

I realized while loot boxes are shitty, it kinda evens out if they were to charge $5 per extra character or $10 for a map pack they add to the game since that DLC is free.
