For anyone into the Forza 7 Forzathon challenges, the ones that require specific location cane be done on any route in that location. Rental cars work too. Just knocked out a This Is Forza Motorsport 7 in about 45 minutes.

I've been reading about Battlefront 2's hero system and it got me thinking, how come Rainbow Six Siege, where the "free" characters take just as long if not longer to unlock gets praised and people love it but the Battlefront stuff blows up, is it because it's EA? Like I don't understand and that thought randomly hit me.
There are a lot more layers to the complaints than such a simple comparison.

Rainbow Six Siege has been supported for two years now, and these characters have been gradually added for free with the option to buy them directly, along with a lot of cosmetic stuff, only the newest stuff is expensive by in game credit standards too. From what I understand it takes less than half the time to unlock each new character than the ~40 hours it takes to unlock one of the 60,000 credit characters in Star Wars. On top of this, each character is akin to a different play-style in the same sandbox, as they have unique kits like an Overwatch hero does, giving you different options to help your gameplay stay fresh, rather than the generally briefly used Battlefront heroes, since you can only really get to them later in a match.

The 40 hour grind for heroes is bad for a few big reasons and a lot of smaller ones. First, keeping it to an "only" 40 hour grind means saving all credits, meaning no buying the lootboxes that are the only way to get actual progression. Second, while some heroes are unlocked by default, new characters like Rey and Kylo, the big classic characters are locked behind a 40 hour each grind, including Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. The Emperor is like a 25 hour grind, and even the main character of the campaign is a 12 or so hour grind.

To go along with this grinding talk, DICE keeps deflecting inquires about getting more credits. They point toward the Challenge system, which can give you like a thousand credits a week, plus the one time challenges that total up to about 32,000 credits. This means doing ALL one time challenges doesn't even get you one of the expensive characters, and you can't even actually do all of these to help your grind as some require Vader and Skywalker.

Finally, about the game on a whole, this specific implementation of lootboxes is probably the most exploitative the industry has seen outside of mobile gaming. All character progression other than 4th-tier abilities are locked behind these RNG boxes, with a guarantee that you will instantly be better off if you spend money as the majority of unlocks are pure improvements to abilities with no drawbacks, like doing more damage, regenerating health faster, or locking on faster when flying a ship. It manages to be worse that Gear of War 4's Horde skills being tied to lootboxes as they affect the whole game and are in a competitive setting. The sad thing is games like Overwatch have proved that cosmetics alone can be enough to make plenty of money off of lootboxes, and Star Wars could easily have a ton of "lore friendly" options that fans would like and Disney would likely approve of unless they are completely brain-dead.

It is true that everything is being amplified even more by EA being EA though. On top of all the issues with Battlefront, this year alone has had them look worse than ever. To be fair Ubisoft gets a decent amount of shit for a lot of stuff too, so I don't think Siege is just getting a free pass because people don't hate them as much as EA.

-Andromeda is a disaster at launch, eventually discovered to be due to EA meddling, forcing the studio to use an engine not designed with RPGs even remotely in mind, and a ton of other internal issues.

-Shutting down Bioware Montreal and icing the Mass Effect series, along with canceling Andromeda DLC.

-5 years into a 10 year exclusive deal with Star Wars, we only have 2 games released with at least four studios have been working on projects

-Shutting down Visceral after a slow death caused by EA's previous ruining of Dead Space 3

-"repurposing" Visceral's single-player linear game that they clearly intended to make at the start, going as far as hiring the woman that directed the Uncharted series. Now making giving it to a new team to "follow trends" and make it multiplayer.

-Buying Respawn after they crippled Titanfall 2 by releasing it in the week between their own huge FPS and their even bigger competitor FPS.

I guess these troll fighter announcements never stop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmWbiMwxmOU

It would be cool if this leads to a Bandai-Namco guest in Dissidia. A Tekken/Soul representative like Yoshimitsu or Knightmare, a Tales character, or maybe someone like KOS-MOS from Xenosaga?

Can't wait for loot boxes in Persona 6.

Red Dead 2 is gonna be a (un)dead nightmare with massive MP micro transactions. Look at how much GTA5 has made them.

Hate the way the industry is going. You can't even vote with your wallet anymore because of the whales. Hopefully console games don't turn into the mobile space where 99% of the games end up micro transaction predatory garbage.

Edit: I just recalled that Deadpool phones Activision's server every 30 seconds. I recall that the port programmer even admitted to it and posted it on one of the reviews. So you get a lag spike every 30 seconds unless you go offline. Not a problem for most people but would be for me since I game share. Guess might be a rare hard copy purchase for me... if I get it.

I read the big post and do agree with some of it for sure, I guess yeah I was thinking the DLC more, but Siege is still a game you bought then had to unlock the core characters as well. I don't know, a lot of the stuff in BF2 is done poorly but it feels so fun to play that I'm still grabbing it, obviously not paying money for crates though.

Can't wait for loot boxes in Persona 6.

Red Dead 2 is gonna be a (un)dead nightmare with massive MP micro transactions. Look at how much GTA5 has made them.
This is another good one, GTAV has pay to get better stuff if you don't grind for a million hours either and everyone loves that game....hmmmm

I played the beta of BF2, and some people are blowing things way out of proportion. It doesn't take 40 hrs of non stop saving to play as Luke Skywalker. It takes 40 hrs to collect every level of every skill, all the emotes, and whatever else you can unlock for heroes. Plus, that math doesn't take into account challenges. That's the amount you collect from joining a match and running into a wall, for 40 hours. If you "play" the game at all, you are expected to unlock far more credits as well as specific lootboxes geared towards what you have been playing.

I listened to an interview between one of the devs and Angry Joe, and the dev brought up one really good point. With a traditional progression system, you level up a medic or a sniper and maybe you dabble a little bit, but you may never even try certain classes because you'd have to start that climb from the bottom. Randomized rewards might give you a couple interesting things to try with a class you initially wrote off. Pretty soon you're completing new challenges and unlocking a variety of stuff.

That may lend some validity to lootbox rewards, but charging real money for them makes balancing a real hassle. Any big changes they make to drop rates or time/credit will cause extremely negative reactions from the people who put $20 in for a leg up and now you can earn that in 2 hours (just making up numbers).

The beta drop rates and tier comparisons did not bode well. I hope challenges are numerous and reward skilled play, because if the naysayers are right and you have to rely on the drip feed of time in matches then the game will suffer like the last. I'm sure EA will make fistfulls of cash regardless tho. Star Wars is a hot IP and people will be excited for the new movie. My brother and nephew loved 2005 BF, so unless they really feel burned by the progression they'll probably love this one too. I can't complain too much cause I get it for like $15 invested (EA access 10% off + 20% off xbl credit +$30 from bro).

Tell me about it.
I just got back from a GS where someone asked the guy working there if they sold PS+ and was told that they used to, but there is no such thing anymore. He even repeated himself.
I grabbed a card off the rack and handed it to the guy.
This is the same employee that automatically added the extended warranty to my checkout and tried to hurry the trans before I noticed or was able to give him my club card.
I like to think they have an internal private forum and make bets on who can say the dumbest or most misinformed things to customers and get away with it, just to entertain themselves because working there can be so awful. The alternative (that so many of them really are that dumb) is too painful a reality.

Don't forget the seasonal hires are out in full force.....

And WonkyToad I pray you did their survey after that transaction. Stuff like that has to be against company policy. Charging you for something without telling you sound like grounds for a lawsuit :whistle2:/

Have you ever been in the GameStop Reddit?

I wish I could enjoy football like you guys but the Dolphins continue to go from bad to worse. Thinking of football just makes me depressed.
Combined the Jets and Giants only have one more win then the Dolphins. Both have worse records then the Dolphins.

Been many years since I really cared about football but $1 for the wife isn't too bad. These clowns aren't bringing the deals this year.

But we're paying Cutler. Ugh. Hate that guy. $1 for NFL pass? Where?

I wanted to give myself some time to let the whole this settle in my brain.

But, the survey is DEFINITELY on my To Do list for today!.

And it's the funniest game ever made. The gameplay is average, nothing special, definitely not bad, but the humor is spot on 100% Deadpool perfection.

Nolan North >>>> Ryan Reynolds
I like Ryan Reynolds as the live action Deadpool, but N.N. will always be cartoon Deadpool to me.

I just wish I could agree with you on the gameplay perspective. I felt as though it was below average at best. Just controlling Deadpool felt clunky to me (I'll never speak of the gun play ever lol). Repetitive is another term I would use in regards to the gameplay.

The game had its charm, don't get me wrong, but I couldn't finish it due to the poor gameplay (despite loving the story and voice acting). I mean hell I got through Evil Dead Hail to the King on the PS1 and I couldn't even get through this one (ASH IS A FREAKING TANK!).

I'll probably buy it for my backlog though and pray for a sequel or remake.

If the 360 version of Deadpool was $7.50 or lower I'd grab it for the backlog, but I can't justify bringing myself to spend $12 on a 360 game at this point.

I already have the XBO version in my backlog, so I guess I'll keep an eye out for a cheap physical copy.

Is the consensus that dead rising 3 is a better dead rising game than 4?

I remember it running poorly on release, was that ever patched? and I wonder if X would be able to brute force it to a steadier frame rate?
Pretty much, 3 was at least worth a playthrough, but if you ever played DR1 then the story for DR3 was awful. Spoiler ahead:
you will understand why most fans don't agree to the ending with one of the original main character's Isabela Keyes

helped Frank West within the first game and Case West.

Otherwise I found DR3 quite enjoyable to play for the first run.

Tonight’s the Xbox One X enhanced games sale? Right? Right?!?!
They got somewhat specific about the holiday digital sales that start on the 17th. Saw on twitter. Let’s see how my memory is:

Forza 7 - 39.99
Forza Hor 3: 29.99
Gears 4: 19:99
Halo Wars 2: 19.99

I'm mostly just going to post the math that Reddit has been doing, but at the current rates that are in the EA Access Trial, roughly 40 hours IS how long it takes to unlock Luke or Vader if you don't spend credits on anything else.

I watched the Angry Joe interview as well, and while I can see the logic behind the devs defense of the "progression" system, I think it's very flawed. Sacrificing your entire game balance to make it so a good drop from a lootbox actually makes a player want to play a different class is idiotic. Anyone playing the game for a decent length of time is likely to try out the four classes and either decide to "main" one or bounce between whichever ones they think are best for the current situation, likely using them if a weekly challenge needs to be done with a specific class too. Almost everything that dev said made it clear he had to stick to very specific responses and was doing his best to spin everything with a positive light.

Here is the post where the math was done to show it takes so long to get the 60,000 credits for Vader or Luke. No it doesn't factor in challenges, but he did another post breaking those down too.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/7c6bjm/it_takes_40_hours_to_unlock_a_hero_spreadsheet/

TL;DR
"Gameplay Minutes Required to Unlock One Hero: 2,395.97

You read that correctly. At the current price of 60,000 credits it will take you 40 hours of gameplay time to earn the right to unlock one hero or villain. That means 40 hours of saving each and every credit, no buying any crates at all, so no bonus credits from getting duplicates in crates."

To make matters worse, apparently they hid this massive grind from reviewers, as the heroes only cost 10,000 credits for them.

https://twitter.com/hanmik01/status/930008820713213952

The challenge credits:
https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/7chkx3/you_get_a_total_of_32400_credits_from_challenges/

"You get a total of 32,400 Credits by completing every single Challenge in the game. Currently this is enough to make it halfway to buying a hero like Luke or Vader, and most of the way to buy a hero like Leia, Chewbacca or Palpatine. This is more than enough credits to get you Iden though!

You get a total of 1,275 Crafting Parts by completing all Challenges in the game. This, is ALMOST enough for you to craft 3 Star Cards from Rare to Epic (a cost of 480 Crafting Parts)

You get a total of 1,035 Crystals by completing all Challenges in the game. This is enough Crystals to get you just over 5 Trooper Crates.

You get a total of 23 Crates by completing all Challenges in the game. Now these range from Veteran Class Crates to Crates that give you Uncommon versions of specific Star Cards after you complete a Challenge for them. We don't have enough info on these crates to know how many Credits or Crafting Parts are inside of them at the moment. But I am more than happy to add that info to this spreadsheet once we have it all verified on the hopes that it isn't randomized.

Keep in mind, some of these Challenges require SIGNIFICANT time to complete, like 500 kills using a certain Class or completing objectives with Hero Ships in Starfighter Mode. Other Challenges actually require you to have Luke or Vader unlocked to complete them, so you would already need to spend 60,000 Credits to start to complete them."

People are definitely upset, this bullshit PR response to Vader being locked is the most downvoted thing ever on Reddit. 337,000 downvotes and counting.

^^ I’m actually surprised EA is even responding on Reddit.

And from what I’ve played in the trial, earning credits is VERY slow and then you get crap you didn’t want 90% of the time anyway.

The whole thing just sucks.

As an aside, I think the best part of this whole Battlefront thing is that EA Access has led to massive backlash a second time. Mass Effect Andromeda was definitely crippled by the early access it had. That is when all the majority of popular gifs of just how bad the animation was were made and started cycling the internet, as well as the many videos of how glitchy it was and the terribleness of some of the NPCs and cutscenes.

Battlefront is getting even more negativity, all before the game is actually available. I'm sure a ton of pre-orders have been canceled already, I just hope it manages to spread decently to the more casual players so they don't make this gamble successful.

Yep... I was considering preordering BF2. Not anymore. CoD:WWII MP is great, even with some server issues. The crates are fun to earn and are nothing but calling cards and uniforms and the occasional special weapon. Nothing that impacts gameplay.

The campaign in BF2 is getting better the more I play. Maybe I’ll either rent the game just to finish it or keep my pre-order (which with the $10 preorder bonus and GCU is $37.99) and trade it quickly.

I absolutely love all things Star Wars and hope EA makes some more corrections to make this right, but I’m not counting on it.

I think they did stop responding now. There were about 5 similar PR speak posts yesterday that were all heavily down-voted, with one positive up-voted one from a DICE employee about accessibility for a person who can't physically press down sticks on the controller.

To make matters worse, their community manager made a few inflammatory posts that he's since deleted.

This guy got a lot of upvotes too. Giving a supposed insider look at how and why EA make the moves that they make, and how they will likely respond to the outcry.

was 9.99 earlier in the week

bumped up to 10 something and now 12.50

Everytime I keep hearing about Battlefront 2's micro transactions math my mind wanders to this...

Saw a post on reddit of a guy saying Arkham City(remastered) starts to run at 60fps on the xb1x when you die and select retry on the death screen. Also he is on a non hdr tv and his game is saved on an external ssd. Other people saying it works for them as well. Some on 4k some not, but everyone it works for seems to be on an external HD.

So you have to die at least once? That’s weird.

Someone mentioned using a USB hub to have two externals and Kinect attached to their Xbone. I just got one and it won’t work with two things attached to it. Either only one external works or an external works and the Kinect doesn’t. Wondering if it a powered USB hub? I’m guessing power is the issue since both of my externals are USB powered.

I would suspect power as well. Either you'd want 2 powered external drives (so that the console/hub are only managing their data, not electricity), or a powered USB hub to supply multiple devices that draw from the console.

Ugh. That doesn't look good. I suppose they could add more challenges, or have bonus weekends, but that is looking like a major grind. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is to unlock everything at max rank for a hero right? At least in the beta you could still play as the heroes even if you didn't have no fancy cards.

They couldn't take out the epic cards people already paid for with preorders and deluxe versions, but adding more microtransaction bundles is not going to remove the tarnish of pay2win. Quite the opposite really.
