Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Can’t that be said of most games in the last 20 years?
“Come back here! I have to get you to your destination alive!”
“But those people shooting at us seem so friendly!”
Definitely, it is an unfortunate problem us gamers have to face! Ai with no self preservation skills

Man, I think I'm all burned out on gigantic open world games. I just get so overwhelmed. I was playing Shadow Of War, which is definitely a fun game....but I'm up to Act 2 and I just learned about Conquests. Soon as that tutorial ended, the entire map opened up, and there's like 4 other big ass regions that are filled with quests and battles and vendettas and collectibles and yadda yadda.....I was just sitting there feeling like I'll NEVER finish this game. And add to the fact I have an addictive personality that drives me to 100% everything I play, I just think its time to realize my limits and just stick to games smaller in scope like shooters and MP games. I think that's why I always go back to shit like Overwatch, Battlefront 2, and Gears 4. Its so easy to pick up and play them and feel like I accomplished something at the end of the session, whereas I could spend 3 hours playing an open world RPG and make like, 5% progress in the map.

The thing that saddens me the most is that I now realize I'll never play The Witcher III or Fallout 4. If I cant bring myself to finish Shadow Of War, which is much much smaller when compared to those games, there's no hope for them. Maybe if I were 10 years younger, I'd have it in me to dedicate that kind of time to them. But now, eh, I'm losing my will to complete stuff.

sorry for the rant, I just have nowhere else to put this.

Sadly this is how getting older changes your gaming habits. I find myself looking for quick stories over open world games anymore. At least in a linear story you feel a sense of accomplishment.

Ive been reluctant to start witcher 3 for the same reasons. I disliked fallout 4 because it was huge and i didnt want to deal with a crafting system. Its hard to find the kind of time these games require.

Play what’s fun. I don’t see a problem in your tastes changing. If you wouldn’t enjoy fallout 4 now, that’s fine. Better to let it sit and maybe enjoy it when you feel like it (or not)

People post here about enjoying what you play. It sounds like an open world is more daunting and not fun. Don’t waste your time in them then. People won’t judge you for playing games you enjoy. Except it’s the internet and people will judge anyways, but who cares about random internet people.

Life is too short, don’t play what others say is fun. Play what you enjoy

I had the same problem with Witcher 3 and never finished it, despite playing through Witcher 2 several times and 1000/1000 it. I find open world games to just be bloated for no goddamn reason other than to be just big. You end up doing the same mundane shit for hours on end and it feels like busy work just for the sake of having more 'content'.

you could save a lot of money by only playing the super long games

I have only played Fortnite and CoD:WW2 MP since November. I’ve stopped buying games at all. Unless I find some Target clearance or really cheap codes, I won’t buy a new game until Far Cry 5 comes out.

Just hit Prestige 4 in CoD tonight, though. :)

Anyone play just dance? I enjoyed dance central as an occasional party game and light work out/warm up before cycling, is it at all similar? Some of those pop songs are catchy even though it's not the first thing I'd listen to. The only experience I have with the game is walking by the kiosk where little kids dance outside the Microsoft store.

I'm OCD and I can't do that. If I start something I want to finish it if I can. Having been in the military helps as well I guess. I also feel like the younger generation have a shorter attention span and lack of will to see things through. Not in insult just a honest observation.

I'm 35 and I just finished Origins not about a week ago. And that is pretty much every thing but the chariot racing. It is about having the will to get things done.

I wouldn't give up on Witcher 3 for being too big, the side quests in that one are actually interesting, maybe more so than the actual main quest line. I hear ya'll though finishing up the 1000gs in Ass Creed Origins kind of has me waiting on Far Cry 5 because of open world burnout. There is so much map you never actually come across in the story.

Yeah, just checked out my Xbox Live Rewards, did this month's survey and then decided to check out my pending credits.

Going by the Final Fantasy post you made, it sounds like you're not in the US. Outside of the US, Microsoft Rewards (formerly called Bing Rewards) and Xbox Live Rewards are combined. In the US, you get points you can redeem for gift cards by using Bing, Microsoft's search engine. Microsoft/Bing Rewards might not be available in your area.
I didn't know that. It's a pitty then, but understandable.

my best friend just got a notification his xbox live account is permanently banned for marketplace theft. has anyone here experienced this and seen a positive outcome? he's like me where he only buys on xbox live using gift cards. he has already requested a review of the ban.
Keep us updated. I'd like to know what exactly got him banned and if he gets it reversed.

Sounds exactly like a gift card chargeback.

He only buys gift cards? Someone must have charged back as others said. Keep us posted. I probably won't buy anymore gift cards through rakuten I saw they were third party. Probably wait for Amazon/Newegg sale again.

I think I'm gonna start a huge Xbox project. Huge for me anyway.

100,000 GS in 365 days.

Works out to roughly 275 gs per day or 8000 to 9000 gs per month.

I've found that I'm goal driven more than I'm pleasure driven. So I enjoy hitting goals more than having fun. This larger goal will also help me reach some of my smaller goals - achievement streaks, clear out my backlog, finish more games, etc.

Let the non-positivity ensue.
If we think of it was 10k GS per month with two extra months to add a little bit of wiggle room...

That comes out to approximately 2,500GS per week, which is a full 1000GS every ~3 days or about 350GS per day. That really is like a full-time job.

A few things: 1) I hope you haven't played any Telltale games yet, 2) I can only imagine some of the shovelware you'll end up playing, and 3) I'm suddenly very curious what you do for a living that could facilitate this level of dedication.

Also, that game Valley on sale looks fun, and you can 100% complete it in ~5 hours.

It combines quests and collectibles (two of my favorite gaming things) with Disneyland (one of my favorite real world things). As someone who goes to Disneyland almost yearly they recreated it almost perfectly where you can explore every nook and cranny looking for hidden Mickey's and other collectibles. It's also cheesy AF in all the ways I can appreciate.

Sounds exactly like a gift card chargeback.
He only buys gift cards? Someone must have charged back as others said.
What is this?!? If I buy an Xbox gift card, redeem it on my account, the seller can somehow "cancel" that code (even though I've redeemed it and I've used the funds) and ding Microsoft (and therefore impact my account)?

A couple of weeks or so back, Amazon had the "buy 3 months of Live, get another code for 3 months" sale/mistake. So if people had redeemed those codes already and Amazon had canceled them (which they didn't; they were nice and said we could still use the codes), they could've technically dinged all of our accounts?

Its also so much better, since you don't have to use the Kinect on Xbox1.

so your suspicion is rakuten or the 3rd party vendor was selling codes that were bought with a stolen CC?

he and i both bought gift cards from rakuten when they had a discount coupon a few months back. they were digital codes, not physical cards.

like others here, i only buy gift cards at a discounted rate and wait for sales on digital download games.

I'm 41 and cant think of anything more tedious than trying to finish up all those repetitive missions in many open world games. Loved AC2, but couldn't be arsed to find all those damn feathers. Really enjoyed Batman Arkham City, but after a while, the side missions were more busywork than enjoyment. For me, there has to be a commiserate payoff in enjoyment/other reward for me going through all the side stuff.

Not a younger generation thing, more of a 'there are just to many other games to play through.'

As a 36-year old man, I also didn't bother with the feathers in AC2, or Benjamin Franklin's notes in AC3 or the pirate songs in AC4 or whatever there was to collect in Brotherhood, Revelations, Unity and Syndicate. Actually, the only time I've gotten ALL collectibles in a Ubisoft open-world game was with the intel and legends in Ghost Recon Wildlands. That's it.

I cant be bothered with any kind of useless collectables like the feathers in AC2.  I grabbed a few but quickly gave up.  I think that's my big problem with crafting in games, I just don't want to have to hunt all the crap down to make a better gun.

Surprised that so many people dislike Halo 3 - not trying to argue, everyone has their opinion and it’s cool that people are getting to play through the good Halo games (and experience what Bungie was like back when they were a good studio). Personally 3 is my favorite of the original trilogy, although ODST and Reach top it for my faves of the series.
It sounded like the glitch issues at least are an MCC problem. I've never had a negative glitch experience in Campaign on the original 360 version, and I have about 725 hours played. I guess I could say graphics complaints are more valid, as it sounds like he was playing the Anniversary versions of 1 and 2. With originals, 3 also annihilated the first two, especially Halo 2 with it's ugly transition between the more basic designs of 1 and "HD" of 3. I think 2's update looks great, probably the best Halo has ever looked, but I have a ton of issues with 1's, as the visual changes were dramatic, with a lot of laziness here and there like using Reach assets for vehicles even though they look pretty different.

EVO's line up was announced last night:

-Street Fighter 5 Arcade Edition
-Tekken 7
-Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
-Super Smash Bros. Melee
-BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle
-Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2
-Injustice 2
-Dragon Ball FighterZ

This is the first time in EIGHTEEN years that a Marvel vs Capcom hasn't made it in, showing just how bad the reception really was. The FGC didn't take to the game considering just how lazy the presentation was, and its very lackluster roster. This could be the death bell for the game. No presence at the EVO the year the game came out means no exposure of highest level play to the masses or broader FGC on the biggest stage in the scene, so no new potential players. It kills faith in the game, so the likelihood of a something the Capcom Cup or Pro Tour that saved Street Fighter V is less likely. The fact that it just barely broke a million sales by the end of the year probably makes it a hard flop in both Capcom and Disney's eyes too.

For a normal player's perspective of just how f u c k e d the game is, I just picked up MvC:I recently, and earned the Battle Junkie achievement. Simply "Fight 10 battles in Online Mode." This is a Rare Achievement only unlocked by 7.94% of players, in a fighting game where that is the entire point. Hell, only 15% have even played one match online. For comparison, Tekken 7 has the same achievement with 19.34% completion, and that has a single-player content that's actually worth a shit.

All of this. My daily commute to and from work is currently about four (4+) hours a day. That leaves me three (3) hours to be home and relax with the wife before falling asleep early and doing the whole thing over again. Gaming now has been reduced to a few quick bursts of something fast paced (Overwatch) so I can get in and then get out- weekends are what I have to slog through the huge open-world games (Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Assassin's Creed III).

This is the main reason I have yet to start The Witcher III: Complete Edition.

So any Madden players in here? Picked it up and im having a ball with it. Anyways...got the GOAT version. Before I pick my player, any suggestions and does the contract thing make the game BS after they run out?

I know most people here won't remember, but I had an issue where my license for PES 2017 was removed so I couldn't even re-install the game. Well, after opening several tickets with Xbox Support a few months back, being told it was Konami's doing and they couldn't nor wouldn't do anything about it (they even refused my request for a refund), my license was surprisingly restored yesterday.

Pretty sure I'm never playing it again, ever, but at least I know I can whenever I want to. It was not about money, it was about the sheer principle.

A 4 hour commute is insane. I have a 40 min commute each way and I'm looking to move closer. 15 min or less is my ideal commute.

All of you are crazy. I'm a 15 minute walk to campus and the clinic I work at. More than 20 minutes driving would require a dream job and/or excellent pay.

1) As far as TT games go I've completed:

- Batman Season 1
- Game of Thrones
- The Walking Dead S01E01 to S01E05

As part of Day 1 of the 100k challenge did use The Walking Dead 400 days.

2) Maybe. I missed the whole xbox 360 gen. So I have anything that's bc that I haven't played/completed too.

3) I don't have kids or an SO, which leaves me with more personal free time. For work I'm pretty broad in the STEM fields. Out grad school I worked on a HEP experiment (High Energy Physics). Last few years I've been working in data analytics for banks. So of course I'm tracking data on my current GS and an expected time to completion.

My incomplete personal theory on goals
In general I believe that if you don't set measurable goals with a fixed time frame you set yourself up to stay far away from where you desire to end up. Essentially tomorrow will be the same as today.

Lots of people have vague goals such as lose weight, make more money, find love, etc. But they lack an incremental, repeatable process that gets them from the here and now to their goal within a fixed time frame.

Just setting a goal and a fixed time frame gets you further than doing nothing. I hope that someone who tries to lose 40 lbs. in 6 months can accomplish that goal. But if they loose 30 lbs. in 6 months that's still a success. And perhaps they reach their 40 lb. goal in 7 or 8 months. They still did it. And they're better off than if they spent 8 months on the couch dreaming about reaching that goal.

In my case if I only hit 75k GS in a year that's way better than where I'd end up if I play in the same haphazard manner as I do now. If nothing else this will be a chance to experience some self discovery.

I think the hard parts will be (1) installing the new bahavior of 275+ gs / day over the 1st 20 - 30 days and (2) maintaining the process over a full year.

In studying behaviors related to diet and exercise I've learned that a lot of people fail because they get very excited in the beginning, put in a ton of work early, and then find they can't maintain that pace over the long haul. Thus it never gets installed as a behavior that results in lasting change. They end up burned out before they see any change that would motivate them to continue.

After 2 hour commutes in Atlanta, I moved back to Greenville, SC for my 10-minute one now.

Well or he bought one of those cards from when people were posting here for a unknown site I believe it was $80 for $100.

He might not be telling the whole story. I never read of anyone getting banned for Rakuten cards.

It is however sold by a third party through their own website. Rather then newegg or amazon who first party wise sell directly through themselves.

Game Pass has a lot of easy games to complete. I enjoyed playing Bard's Gold and Tower of Guns, and accidentally ended up 100%ing them. If you double up on Telltale games on 360, those will be easy scores, too. Throw in some some indie GWGs and it might be doable. I'm thinking, map out the easy games to pad out a week / month, and then figure out what others will round it out.

I could never do something like this for so long, but it's kind of fun thinking about how you'd accomplish it.

The good thing about getting achievements vs. losing weight is that some games can give you a ton of achievements quickly and easily to jumpstart you if you ever get in a slump. Again going back to my Gamefly days, I would use guides to make sure that I would receive a good and constant mix of easy games and some not-so-easy ones. If you get stuck with a lot of hard (and bad) games for a long period of time, you'll get easily discouraged. Having those little wins in between keeps your mood up.

I think it's a good thing that you're setting goals. Like you said, even if you don't hit 100k, at least you're making progress in that direction.

Playing 1 match online in MVCI was a rare achievement when I got it in late October. To be honest, I think online play might be a little overstated as DBZ Fighters has similar results.

Barely 20% of the people who played the game did 20 matches in casual mode. 20 matches ranked is a rare achievement and not even 50% played a local VS match.
