Ugh, I can't justify getting Steamworld Heist yet. Have 15+ Switch games and I've only played Skyrim and Stardew Valley. Really need to stop adding to my backlog.

Of the games I've played, which includes most at this point, the best have been Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask, Windwaker, and Phantom Hourglass (in that order).

Commonly highly considered entries in the series I haven't played are Skyward Sword, BotW, and the Seasons games.
I can't recommend the Season games enough. I guess I should judge Zelda titles on the times played(as that would be a good indicator of like), and these along with Awakening & LttP are the only ones I've played more than once. Those games all show how "much" was done, with "little" hardware. It's like the older FF games like 6, where I think that games is better than any 3D offerings, as they had to work harder, to convey more. That being said, the 3D Zelda titles are fairly large, so not replaying those may have to do with length, more than lack of wanting to play again, but I've never wanted to either way.

I could get behind this so much.
Yeah, this is all I have wanted as well. I have no desire to use the JC for motion controls, or pointer of any kind. HD rumble is OK, but nothing I need to pay for. Everything that makes the "switch" a switch, is all fairly useless gimmicks I don't need or want, that only stand to drive the systems cost up. The NS I need and or want, is the one that is under $200, as I'm not paying more than that for features I don't want or would ever use. So if a revision I want never shows up, I'll be waiting for the current unit to reach that price before I buy in.

I've played and beat every Zelda game except Majora's Mask (and the Japanese only satellite game, but I don't count that since it wasn't really released globally), I know I am in the minority when I say that I don't like it, and don't know if I will ever finish it.

I recommend Minish Cap, I still think it was under rated. One of my first games was the gold cartridge zelda, so the top down has always been enjoyable and nostalgic.

This. For fans of the series it seems to come down to exploration vs dungeons, which they prefer. I'm a huge Zelda fan, I've 100% completed every main game and most handheld games (and at least finished the rest), and BotW is my favorite of the series, only tied by Majora's Mask. There's so much depth to the world in BotW, I could play it forever. I've been waiting for that sense of wonder to wear off and still hasn't. Perfectly deserving of its like 200 GOTY awards imo.

Also it has a motorcycle now. Epona or some flute or whatever just can't compare to that.

THAT SAID, I do hope they still make top down "traditional" Zeldas (or ZELDA MAKER), as I think they have their place and go well with open world 3D Zelda games. Sort of like side scroller Metroid vs Prime, 2D vs 3D Mario and so on. Two different games, both with different fans and appeal.

tldr art is subjective and mona lisa is ugly
I love the idea of a zelda maker, I wonder if they could pull it off considering all the zelda styles that have been done. But a top down with the option for many different weapons would be appealing. They still need to make more top downs, and keep the handhelds coming, I have enjoyed ever single one of those.

I also liked BOTW mostly do to the fact that you could think up anything to try and try it. Once I started chopping down trees to make fire, and using a torch to keep warm in the snow, and fishing with bombs, I was sold. Everything I thought of doing, I could do. I read an article that said they purposefully tried to make it so different things could be solved in different ways, which I though was a brilliant way for people to use their own intuition to solve a problem in the game. Also loved how people interact with you depending on what you are wearing, and all the other details that went into the game. My only complaints are that the storyline was a bit thin, for the time that game takes, beef up the cut scenes and give more back story to all the characters. Also, some of the items needed to level up armor is tedious. I don't want to beat a million lynels.

Also, one idea (that I don't know if it was discussed here) would be a BoTW prequel, where the BoTW world isn't destroyed yet, and link is your main character, but you also have to go on missions as the other heroes for side quests. I really thought the game would end with everything going back to the way it was, and think it would be cool to see the entire world the way it was before calamity ganon.

Skyward Sword definitely had flaws, but I loved it and it's in my top three Zeldas.

As for motion controls, I understand complaining when they're poorly implemented (which they often were in Skyward Sword), but I don't really get why people hate the general concept so much. Whether it's that, touch screens, VR, arcade driving games, or the whole Labo thing, I'm all for making gaming more interactive than just pressing a button.

RE: Motion Controls

The first (and only, I think) Zelda game that my brother ever beat was Twilight Princess on the Wii.  The reason he played through the whole thing: He found the motion controls engaging.

I think motion controls can be really great - the main issue that many people have with them are when they're forced and there are no alternative methods.  I think this is sometimes justified and sometimes not, but it is what it is.

FYI - Morphite, the indie Metroid Prime like game, received an update today to include gyro controls. Note that the game has mediocre reviews and I have not played it.

I know people are complaining about motion controls, but I assume this doesn't include gyro controls (such as in Splatoon) as these are great. Waiting for a Doom sale to pick it up now that it has gyro.

I'm not one to hate on motion controls for simply being motion controls, I find them great in some games (like Wii Sports and Zack and Wiki), but Twilight Princess didn't even bother making the motion match the action. You just waggled your wrist, or the nunchuk. You are right about the problem, the fact they were forced on you for that game bothered me enough to almost get the Gamecube version. Punch-Out was great because the motion controls were fun, but it let you play controller style as well. Star Fox Zero they screwed it back up again by forcing you to use them. I don't mind motion controls, but I definitely like the option to not use them.

I found SS a solid title for sure, and while I'm no fan of motion controls, I managed to where I didn't have to quit playing. There have been several games I stopped due to the controls. "N" really has a broken mentality of "we know best", and to hell with what the consumer wants or what could be best for individuals. Having to waggle to roll in DKCR was game ending for me, as when the game got hectic, that waggle shit was useless. Playing Punch-Out with the Wiimote in classic mode, only to have to point at the screen in between rounds defies all logic to me, especially when your not using them to fight.

Yep, my only real issue with motion controls is honestly having to use them. Offer choices, or nothing at all, as I find motion controls to be OK at there best, which isn't that often. Many Wii games I loved, in regards to the games themselves, but the forced motion honestly to this day, keeps me from playing the Wii much anymore. Motion controls are never justified, EVER! LOL

The time I spent on the first three Zeldas as  a kid is probably comparable to the time I have spent in some of the MMOs I have played.  I recently had an itch to replay a Zelda game and I picked Zelda 2 for some reason.  And I have to say, I still really like that game.  If I didn't have a backlog the size of Jupiter I think I'd replay the original too.

I am still not sold on BotW being that great but I haven't spent a ton of time with it yet either.  Enjoying Mario Odyssey too much.  Of the ones I have played, I would still put LttP on top.  Arguably the best game on a system that had literally dozens of fantastic games.  Following that, I would have to replay the other games to know how I would rank them at this point.  Ocarina of Time blew me away when it was new but it hasn't aged particularly well, IMHO.  I only played Twilight Princess once and honestly I don't remember much about it.  I also never finished Skyward Sword for reasons I do not recall and enough time passed that I thought I should just start over but I never did so I need to play it at some point, along with the older handheld Zelda games like Seasons/Minish.

I loved Wind Waker and BOTW.  BOTW reminds me of being a kid and playing through Zelda 1 & 2 and imagining what a game world could be like with all the freedom to kind of just go where you want.  BOTW upped it thanks to absorbing some of the interesting things Minecraft lets you do.  The freedom to get creative for how you can take out enemies is fantastic.   As for Wind Waker, I love the open world.  It takes a while for the game to open up, but I totally enjoyed the experience from beggining to end and I never understood the complaints about the boat since if you play the game and pay attention you can unlock fast travel.  BOTW, just unlocked fast travel so much quicker... though sometimes I just enjoy taking the trek between locations.

Oh...simple, I thought there was something else to it

Btw, anyone who missed on their cappy coin at BBY (from the Mario odyssey sale) ...check email, it’s back in stock for NYC

Dude...I’m so finished with the eBay+PayPal scheme
Gave one last try with an iPad Air 2 for my birthday, ordered one and the seller shipped a week later and lied about condition , saying it was new when it was refurbished....and then I returned it, ordered from another seller, this one was used , dirty, and neither seller included box or headphones! No QC or repercussions on eBay, used to be that would be a ban and reruns+ keeping item... now its YOU prove you actually returned the fake item to the fraudulent seller, THEN you refunded

PayPal and eBay are a scam for the most part now, honest deals and honest sellers are few and farther between

I've been buying and selling on eBay for going on 18 years now and you're not entirely wrong.. being able to discern the legitimate stuff from the junk is a skill of it's own. And even then it still feels like rolling the dice at times. Just gotta know what you're getting into when buying from there, but it can sometimes be worth it.

Certain products also tend to attract certain types of personalities, so my advice is if you want something like an iPad Air, just put up the extra money and buy it from a legitimate retailer like Best Buy or Amazon. It may not end up being the greatest deal but consider it the price for peace of mind.

Absolutely my friend, and I appreciate your expertise chiming in to confirm what I’ve felt since being on eBay since 1998. It used to be an unregulated but honest barter style site, with small but steady inches of good markets, but since eBay power sellers became day sellers professionally, the unregulated community then became suddenly like a deregulated Wild West, with PayPal the Marshall’s (who always looks the other way for whatever the benefit to eBay is ) IMHO....almost reverse intuitive growth , so yes....next time I want to buy something high priced, straight to BBY or target

I learned my last lesson this time ..peace

Yeah, I agree 100%, as Ebay sucks most of the time, as sellers get the worse of it, but buyers can have issues as well. I must hold myself to a higher standard, as when I buy stuff, it's packaged like shit, and maybe out of 20 orders, I got one that was accurately described. I would never in a million years package stuff, or describe something so far from the truth. If a seller doesn't have any recent positive feedback, that's a red flag, to avoid.

Buying on Ebay is like anything that looks to good to be true, more than likely it is. Good buys can be had, but "work" needs to be done, as if your buying anything where condition is an issue, ask for detailed pics. If the person sends crappy pics, or seems to be putting you off, on to the next seller.

For those looking to nickel & dime, and get an item for hundreds off, more than likely you'll be getting less than great items. Ebay honestly makes the "buyer" Gods, so returning stuff even if it is as described, can be voided due to Ebay loving buyers, and sellers not so much. There are hundreds of topics on the web in regards to buying/selling on Ebay, and ways to avoid traps, issues, or fraudulent users(Google is your friend). If someone isn't willing to spend some time doing their homework, you'll end up screwed more often than not(buyers & sellers).

Chris, every time you post, I have to check the icon cuz I always “read” your name as mine when in a quote box lol

By the way, I paid a fair price, not a deal at all.....$300 for a used, slightly damaged cosmetics all around including a damaged SIM card tray, is way too much.. I tried to find a new one but they cost as much as the iPad Pro 9.7, like $675 and up, and wife told me just get the pro but I had to be stubborn and get the iPad Air 2 to try to save and justify more Switch games.....which I still didn’t cash in on

Wtf am I doin....? Lol worst bday gift ever....but that’s what happens when I buy my own stuff

I just got frustrated with EBay after a recent incident. I don't sell much, just a few things here and there, but had a buyer get a game from me. I boxed it up (it was an old PS1 game), and sent it off right away. Had a guy try to scam me with the "Not delivered" but waiting at the PO, get a refund then pick it up thing. I did everything, even talked to their post office that confirmed the package was there. EBay originally found in my favor, but then he called and got them to reverse it on the 29th day over a weekend. It took me three calls before EBay finally agreed to give me my money back, but even then they didn't take it away from him they just gave me a "courtesy" payment. And from his feedback history for sellers and talking to a couple of other people he recently scammed it was obvious he was doing this ALOT. But EBay did nothing to him, and to this day he is still scamming people.

It kind of takes the desire to sell on there from the the good guys that describe, ship quickly and pack things well when EBay just enables such obvious scammers.

Yeah, sadly Ebay is pro buyer, and not much love for sellers. Your story is the type where they should be doing everything in their power to make for a good experience, so that you come back. But like most things in life, they are only concerned with profits, as they take way more than their fair share and then some. I understand the "customer is always right" mentality, but often times customers are crooks or jackasses of the highest order.

With no sellers, there is no buying, and over the years, I've seen more and more long term users stop selling on Ebay, and they could care less. For every person who leaves, someone else will take their spot. After doing this as long as I have, you just know when things aren't right, or when issues may seem likely and you act accordingly.

Been selling on eBay since late 90s, but really got into it in the past 9 months. I've had fraud in about 1% of my total sales, but each one would've been devastating by itself. I find it's not worth it to use eBay to sell just here and there unless you want to get rid of junk; you need to set up a store subscription, get all the proper packing supplies, find the lowest shipping cost, and be diligent about responding to returns and fraud activity.

Most recently I had an item that I think the buyer was trying to fraud me by not picking up from the post office. It was returned to me, then the buyer did a PayPal charge back, which somehow ended in my favor, so I waited until eBay 30 day money back guarantee ended until I shipped it back to them.

That's what happened to me, they claimed it wasn't at the PO and demanded an immediate refund and said they "would return it if it ever arrived" (yeah, right). The PO confirmed it was there in a bin with a bunch of other packages for that PO Box, obviously they were doing that to others. I looked at their feedback left for others and it was litter with bad feedback - most copy pasted using the exact same words claiming the seller "argued to no end". I called EBay and the rep confirmed it was definitely a potential scam, and noted their excessive bad feedback, and they recommended I report them. That of course went nowhere and later they called themselves and conned a rep into reversing it right before the deadline and my PayPal was debited. It took a few calls before a rep would even look at it closely and notice I did everything necessary and said the reversal shouldn't have been allowed - they credited me back a couple weeks later out of a "courtesy", so the person ended up getting away with it.

If a buyer has a PO Box, be aware - they can avoid picking up packages and the package cannot be "delivered" until they do. Also take a look at the feedback they have left, that often gives an indication they are scamming when they have a ton of bad feedback left for sellers. I also contacted some of those sellers and their situation was remarkably similar to mine. In fact one of them had the same problem and he had ordered the exact same game he bought from me and also claimed it never arrived and wanted an immediate refund. The only response I ever got from the buyer was a cut/paste demanding a refund and telling me they weren't willing to wait or do any further follow up despite me giving them the name of the PO person that confirmed my package was there. I've looked recently and they have still been doing it since then, I've got a feeling they are scamming and then reselling on a different account given how they seemed to be buying a lot of the same game over and over then reporting no delivery.

By the way, who was your scammer's buyer ID?

Lame.. hate that. I have actively canceled bad feedback buyers in the past. I'd rather take the hit than focus on getting top seller ratings.

The buyer I had an issue with had 0 feedback, which probably means they're a guest user. It ended up working for me, but I lost one round of shipping. Fortunately it was in state.

I also advocate having a PO box of your own, as sometimes I get buyers nearby, and I don't want to be robbed.

From my experiences, my hatred of eBay comes down to PayPal. Their customer service is terrible, and it's really irritating that they can't tell me why a transaction is denied. Since that happened, I haven't used them. I called my credit card company to verify the card I had on file with PayPal didn't have a fraud alert, or hadn't been maxed out, etc. (something bad), and they assured me that there were no issues and that people have to call pretty regularly to verify that for the exact same reason...PayPal won't tell them.

Maybe they have good reason, I don't know. What I do know is that the person I talked to in customer service was a dick, wouldn't connect me to someone else to talk to, and placed all blame squarely on my shoulders.

I get by without eBay and PayPal just fine. The only time I wish I used them or it worked for me is when their eShop gift card sales are happening.

Not to get too far off topic, but anytime I have to call PayPal I immediately ask to speak to someone in America. They legally have to transfer you at that point.

The American representatives I've spoken with have always been much more competent and willing to try to assist with whatever issue I was having. I've had TONS of issues with my PayPal debit card being blocked on PayPal's end at certain merchants.

That's actually good advice, as I never knew you could ask for that specifically. I just always say I want to cancel service with whomever I'm calling, and then the system always forwards me to a US cs rep. Between dealing with those damn computers asking what you want, and the lack of English as a first language once I do get someone human, I'm normally one step away from going postal. LOL

It wouldn't be a Game Boy Micro. It would be a version of the Switch designed to actually be portable with a smaller size around what the Vita is with no removeable JoyCons that would be easy to put in your pants/shorts pocket to take with you.
So, remove the joy cons that Nintendo put a bunch of stuff into bragging about their use AND make the screen smaller? I just....that's unlike anything they've done in a long time. Plus, as I said, it ignores a lot of the trends in overall electronics to get larger. And anytime you mention Vita it's not good, even if Sony probably has as much to do with it's death as anybody. Look at the PSP, that tried a smaller version and it went terribly. Nintendo has only ever gone bigger. I could see possibly skipping the joy cons but a smaller screen just seems so unlikely.

I get the desire some have for more portability but I honestly am in the camp of half expecting a 3DS replacement more than using the Switch as the main portable.

It's everybody's favorite time, kids! Time to list Nintendo portable systems that were of approximately equal size to, or smaller than, their predecessors!

Gameboy Pocket
Gameboy Color
Gameboy Advance SP
Gameboy Micro
DS Lite
DSi

Well, first off they offer a 3D device, without the 3D, so I don't think offering a switch without the "switching" is a huge stretch. The 2DS has pretty much become their go to item, as it's cheap, and there are many budget games to be had. If you follow any of the selling trends of past systems, smaller, and cheaper systems are the order of the day. As that is also when system see their greatest levels of growth in the user base.

They also combined their home and handheld divisions years ago, leading up to the NS. So it's safe to assume, they have no desire to make games across two different platforms anymore. That's why most of what you see is ports, as "N" sucks in regards to development times. And lets be honest, they can't really produce new games for one system in a timely manner, let alone two.

I'm pretty positive they will offer something cheaper down the road, as the NS doesn't fill the 2DS/3DS void as is, for cheap and inexpensive software. By the time a new version arrives, they should have a NS players choice lineup, as well as offering a cheap system. What that will be, who the hell knows, as this is "N" after all? But I have no doubt they will not be offering a different portable, that isn't compatible with the NS, as they just don't have the resources to support it. Most of what they are offering is ports for the NS, a device they knew was coming for 5+ years. If a new handheld happens, I'll be the first to eat crow, but I don't see that happening.

I worded that wrong. Screen has only stayed the same or gone bigger.

Should really be Nintendo portable systems of the same family that have gone physically smaller.

That list is significantly smaller.

Gameboy Pocket

Gameboy Advance SP

Gameboy Micro (lost the ability to play GB/GBC games)

DS Lite (lost the flush GBA port)

And Pocket was BARELY smaller.

I worded that wrong. Screen has only stayed the same or gone bigger.
Not entirely true. The 3DS had a smaller screen than the DSi XL, and the New 3DS had a smaller screen size than the 3DS XL. These are, of course, unusual cases, since XL variants have the same resolution as their "normal"-sized counterparts, and the New 3DS launched at the same time as the New 3DS XL (though much later in the US).

In any event, if Nintendo ever does another dedicated portable system, the screen is going to have to be smaller than the Switch—the Switch just isn't a good physical format for portability, it's too big. We can talk about how common tablets are these days, but their numbers are still dwarfed by smartphones, and let's keep in mind that the largest dedicated portables have historically done very poorly in sales—the DSi XL and 3DS XL both sold far fewer units than their "normal"-sized counterparts, the Vita was a massive disappointment in sales compared to its smaller parent, and let's not forget Sega and Atari's early offerings. I'm not saying that each of these systems didn't have other, more significant issues that also interfered with sales, but size is a still a major factor in any electronic device meant for portability. As technology stands today, the market will only support a certain range of size in any great amounts. We saw that on the small end with phones several years ago, and we're starting to see it on the opposite end, again with phones, as their increases in size have begun to taper off.

The Switch may be doomed to stay its current size due to the way the Joycons work, unfortunately, but if not for them, a smaller system, with perhaps a lower screen resolution (to preserve battery life even on a smaller battery) and the option for games to play in full HD when connected to a television, would definitely fill the portable market better than the Switch. This assumes that there still IS a portable market, though. With the 3DS showing its age, the Vita all but dead, and the Switch hardly stepping up to the task of replacing them, it's very difficult to say how a new dedicated portable would actually perform with the ever-increasing ubiquity of smartphones.

You could easily buy JoyCons or a Pro Controller to use on it if you really want to do that. It would be just like the 3DS and 2DS situation where they removed supposed "core" features of the main device (3D, clam shell design) to make it potentially friendlier to more people that are into what that slightly different unit has to offer.

I don't know what the problem with mentioning Vita is, as it was an incredibly well-designed device that is about as good as a handheld of that size could be. It wasn't perfect, but nothing ever is. Besides, the whole point is that the Vita is a perfect example for the maximum size a handheld can be to still be easily portable.

You need to get over this "they can't make it smaller" thing because you're missing the point is that a Switch Lite would be all about bringing that same power and design to a device that is actually portable that could survive drops better than a Switch could. It would also be able to have a better battery life and could have an actual d-pad. This would be the 3DS replacement.

Options are good.

How come Thimbleweed Park isn't on the list or did I miss it? Is it worth $10? What about the Steamworlds, are any worth it at the current sa,e prices? I've never played any before.

All of them, 100%. Do keep in mind Dig 1+2 and Heist are very different games. Same universe, different genres. But both fantastic. If I were you I would check out Dig 1 since it's only $5 (and well worth it) and see if you like it. The sale lasts until 4/5 I believe so you have some time to play and decide.

Dig 2 builds upon it significantly, for a more focused metroidvania experience while Heist does away with the digging mechanic and is instead a turn-based strategy game.

Just tried the rayman demo, and I had to buy it because of the BBY sale! $15,and it’s amazing , check out the flash sale now, it’s 10;30pm EST

Yeah, I just finished Dig 1 and went straight to part two. I rarely get the time to play games to completion, let alone playing two of the same games back to back. Dig 1 was solid(but on the short side, but that's typical of indie titles), and 2 is much better and I'm only a few hours in to that one. I have Heist, but I'm not in to strategy games at all, but the reviews where so good, I figured I'd give it a go. Plus the universe is pretty cool and unique, so I figured visiting it a third time can't be all bad, even if I end up not liking the game. LOL
