I would recommend Black Hole to anyone who likes twin stick shooters. I ended up playing it for a while after I picked it up today. Fun little game and on sale currently.

Wii Shop Channel adding money cut off is Monday at 1PM Pacific Time I believe.

Make those last minute purchases!

Here's a few more recommendations for what to buy:

For Mega Drive/Genesis, Gley Lancer and Monster World IV. These were previously unreleased in the West, but got NEW official translations when released on the Wii Virtual Console.

For Sega Master System: Alex Kidd in Shinobi World. Western exclusive release that fetches pretty high prices online for a cart.

For Super Famicom/SNES: DoReMi Fantasy. A Cute platformer never released in the west. No text was translated, but still playable.

I always thought about getting Final Fantasy My Life as a Dark lord. I played the first and enjoyed it.

...but I keep thinking of selling my Wii U, Wii Fit, Epic Mickey, Nintendo Land, Mario Kart, and that Mario 2D game. It looks like that stuff can still fetch $220 or so on eBay.

Then I could finally have a Switch. I just find the Wii U unpleasant to play, usually.

But I still have Windwaker and Pikmin 3 on it... I started Windwaker and got maybe 5 hours in...

Yeah, I'm a handheld player at heart, as I game there almost exclusively at this point. And using the Wii U in tablet mode was and is very unpleasant for me as well. I use the pro control 9/10 times, and play off the TV and where it's not ideal, I hate the tablet so much, that's how I end up playing. Which also means I don't use it much, but it's got a solid library which is also very cheap to obtain. The NS functions close to the same for me personally, as I've called it Wii U 2.0 since it launched. It's 10x better hardware, but just not really portable, so I play that on the TV as well, which also means I don't use that much either. But it's my sons, so no big loss as he more than gets his money's worth from it.

If you got 5 hours in to WW and stopped, your may done with the game, as that was around the time I begin to loose interest. Until BotW, WW was the first Zelda title I had to force myself to finish. And I was the only one of my friends to do so at the time, as everyone else stopped and never finished it, and this was from Zelda fans like myself. Great looking game, but not very interesting otherwise and was really one of the first games I thought "N" did less than their very best on.

The Wii U is a cool collectible at this point, and outside of the secondary market, no place offers them new anymore. Even the factory direct refurbs from "N" are all gone, so if you no longer use it, it's a good way to move in to the NS. I don't really know if WW or Pikmin 3 will get remakes on the NS, but Pikmin 4 will probably happen there, so you may get a redo leading up to that release(if it happens). WW I don't see happening, especially since the U got a remake not long ago. But when "N" has slow points in offering new games(which is all the time), they often fill it with past versions of games, so anything is possible.

Having never owned Wii U I do hope that WW comes out for NS.
If and when they ever get their proper online functions up and running, you may see certain past games offered thru VC. Honestly, "N" has just about the richest back catalog in gaming history, and they are also the ones who do the least with it. If "N" offered their back library properly, it would probably bring in just as much as other online services do. But they would be making it thru actual software sells, and not paying for a service. I know everyone here as a list of VC games they want, that never saw the light of day over the last 3 gens of the VC.

At one point in time, Disney functioned in the same broken way, and once Michael Eisner came in and put foot to ass, that all changed and for the better(at least financially speaking). I stopped caring years ago about VC, as they just make it to hard, when emulation is so easy. So where I would like to give them funds, I can't because they don't offer what I want more often than not.

Yeah, but the biggest gap in Nintendo's back catalog is the Gamecube. There are a ton of games there they haven't been able to capitalize on due to it being just powerful enough to require a port/remaster over emulation (at least to meet Nintendo's satisfaction on emulation), which drives the cost up into retail range instead of impulse VC pick up. A lot of people missed that generation on Nintendo due to the PS2/XBox popularity. Also, there is a gap on the N64 in the form of many of the best games being Rare games, so it requires some licensing (although MS has really been working well with Nintendo lately).

I'm hoping the time to get the VC going means they are really working hard on Gamecube games. There are only so many times people will pick up NES/SNES games - not to mention Nintendo has lately gotten the itch to sell those in separate packages with the Classics and then they don't leave non-console owners out. I also hope they aren't just going to abandon the WiiWare games, there are some gems there.

Yeah, lets all hope they are trying to "future proof" what ever service they are coming up with, so buyers don't need to keep buying the same games over and over. That's a good observation on those GC titles, as yeah, they seem more interested in sprucing up past titles, than releasing them as is. Which as stated, comes at a full retail cost, which is the end goal I'm sure.

Those mini's alone should have been a wake up call to these guys, but who knows? I honestly don't think they want to provide a good value, or even long term access, as they do well enough milking those fans who keep buying this stuff over and over. I've been a fan for 30+ years, and even I had to draw a line in the sand, as some of the shit they do will never stop until consumers demand it, and sadly they have the biggest flock of sheep out there. With only Apple fans following more blindly, which has actually been waning since Jobs death(but still pretty bad) . LOL

I think the Classic consoles is their way of moving forward.  A stand alone machine that has most of the must play games that people can hang onto to play those games into the future.  It lets fans scratch the itch.  I think they recognize they have gone to that pocket so many times that people just want something to keep and be done with it.  I don't doubt they will populate the Switch VC with them, but you have to think there will be some diminishing returns.  You have tons and tons of ways to play Super Metroid or Super Mario Bros. right now.  They need a new hook, telling people they can play VC games they've been playing for two generations won't cut it.

Their sweet spot is Gamecube and WiiU, both with tons of great games many people missed.  The WiiU is new enough they can go the remaster route, which has been a great option for people that skipped WiiU.  If they get Gamecube emulation working in a way that does not require a ton of effort to add new games on the Switch (similar to how MS did X360), then charge $10-12 pop for them they can make a ton of money.  Spit them out a couple a week and it will print money for them.  You simply cannot play Gamecube games right now without a console or messing around with emulation, and that's too much effort for most people.

Yep, it has 3D, but the text in game is almost impossible to read. I just got done playing the first game, and went straight in to this, and I know I'm getting old, but it's pretty damn bad. Cool game though.
Much appreciated! I may just pick that title up to have a whole set.

On a side note, does anyone know if Ultimate Tetris for the 3DS plays in 3D? Same issue with that one...the preview doesn't show 3D and none of the reviews I've found have mentioned it. I own several versions of Tetris, but 3D gameplay might actually get me to fork over for yet another version.

How's Undercover on the Switch?

I know, LEGO Worlds and Marvel 2 were rough on the XB1 at launch without patches, So I'll pass on those.

Does anyone know the maximum number of points allowed on a Wii Shop account?  I'm debating whether to max out my balance before the March 26th deadline.  I tried searching online but I'm getting conflicting information.

I've decided not to fill up on VC games for Wii in hopes that Switch will be getting VC as well when the online launches. Just grabbing Castlevania and Contra Rebirth because who knows if those will ever be released on anything else.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply to my post. Windwaker felt more like a chore than a joy, so you're right, I may be done with it.

A lot of the Wii U games have since been ported to Switch, and I imagine the trend will continue.

Personally, I'm a little afraid if I buy a Switch now, they will announce a smaller, more portable version at E3. I'm also a handheld gamer, and I'm currently playing Solatorobo DS. I have always thought I would play the Switch more as a handheld, but I wonder if that's the case, as big as it is.

I'm hoping N releases a lot of older games for the Switch since I kinda skipped pretty much everything after the snes...
I'm also really hoping that they re-work Skyward Sword. That's the one Zelda game I haven't put even a single minute into after finding out it was forcing waggle controls onto us again. Just remember thinking "fck it, hell no" and never bothered with it. But I would like to play it because controls aside I'm sure it's otherwise be a fine game.

A port of the HD remaster of Twilight Princess would be awesome too.

Same. Let the deadline come and go. There's just very little on the Wii shop that I felt I absolutely had to have, and there's a good chance we may see them in the future as well, either on the eShop or as part of collections. And if not, oh well..? The last thing I need are any more games in the backlog lol.

You still may use it mostly as a handheld, as many do, and don't have issue with it's size. Many use tablets and laptops on a regular basis, and compared to those, it's rather small. I have small hands, so even with the NS being smaller, it's not ideal for me personally. I do believe they now have actual playable units at retail, I saw one at BB not long ago if memory serves correctly.

So try and give it a feel, as my son uses it in handheld mode mostly, with no issues. But, if nothing is grabbing at you honestly, E3 is around the corner, so even though I don't think they'll announce a revision so soon, you'll for sure be able to see what the next year of software is like, and it may be loads, or not much? As for the ports, yep, we will be seeing many, it's just a matter of which ones and when. I'm looking forward to some of the upcoming 3DS ports, and the NS as well.

I'm also really hoping that they re-work Skyward Sword. That's the one Zelda game I haven't put even a single minute into after finding out it was forcing waggle controls onto us again. I personally thought motion controls where one of the worst things ever added to gaming, but by some miracle I actually made it thru SS, and it was rather enjoyable. Not the best Zelda, far from the worst, but I wouldn't blame a single person for not playing it, as the controls where shit a good portion of the time. SS is probably next in line for a port, so you may see it announced sooner, rather than later.

EDIT: BTW, I stopped playing Punch Out on the Wii which is a series I love, as it forced motion controls in the menus between rounds which I absolutely hated. I have a laundry list of dumb shit "N" has done over the years, and that's near the top. I always hoped for a 3DS version, but it's looking doubtful, but if they keep supporting the 3DS, it could happen. Could be a great game in 3D and no motion controls(or at least as an option). I stopped playing DKCR for similar reasons.

Skyward Sword is garbage for a Zelda game.  The motion controls are terrible (and you have to constantly re-level the controller), but that's not the only issue.  The story is weak, but the "world" is the worst part.  It has the size and blandness of the open sea in WW but with even less to do.  And it has only three major areas which you have to go through the same parts multiple times (like the Phantom Hourglass tower).  And the dungeons, well look at it this way, one of the dungeons is literally "oh there is a back door in this dungeon you already beat" that leads to more of that same dungeon that counts as one of them.  Between dungeons you get to go beat the same world boss big blob thing, the same way, over and over again (oh look he has more toes this time and they don't stay out as long).  And the tools you get love to use the motion control, like that stupid scarab.

The failures of that game are what led to the totally revamping the formula for Breath of the Wild.  The whole game is a trainwreck.

Valid points for sure, but the changes they made that is now BotW, doesn't even feel like a Zelda game to me anymore. Might be a great open world game like Skyrim or GTA, but as a main Zelda title, it didn't move me at all. WW & BotW are the only two titles I had to force myself to play, with me only finishing WW.

After months of playing BotW, I finally had enough, as it just wasn't fun, at least WW was nice to look at, but BotW was nothing special graphically. The game was just a snooze fest, as even though the world was HUGE, it was about as boring to me as WW was. If this is where the series is going, I'll probably be retiring. LOL

I have a Wii/DSi Nintendo Points Card for 2000 points (North America only), and I no longer have either system. I assume it is still valid, but without a way to validate it properly I would feel weird trying to sell/trade it. It is officially branded and code is not revealed yet.

Since the ability to actually put it on an account expires today, I'll give it away. You have about four hours to like this post. I will randomly select someone from the list at or around 2PM Eastern, scratch off the code and PM the winner on CAG.

Please don't enter if you cannot use it in the short time frame available. Good luck!

EDIT: Drawing would have occurred after the deadline to apply the code, changing the cut off time.

I recall really enjoying Skyward Sword - it's probably one of my favorite Zelda games. Opinions!

Fair enough, people like all sorts of games. I couldn't care less about Madden or Call of Duty games, but I recognize they have lots of fans as well.

I can see some having enjoyed SS it had its moments, but I would think most people would at least recognize the amount of retread they did on content in it and the general uselessness of the flying part. Sure it was fun to swoop and fly around a while with your arm like holding it out the window of a car, but beyond that it was as pointless as sailing around in WW. That was the cool part of BotW, in my opinion, because even when I had some far away place to get to I'd run into a ton of things to do along the way.

Finished all my shopping on the USA Wii Shop Channel and JP Wii Shop Channel. And I gotta say, there is some CRAZY awesome stuff on the JP Channel! Glad to be able to pick some of that stuff up!

I'm entering, but the ability to add Wii Points ends at 1PM Pacific Time today (which is 5AM March 27th Japan Time), so you may want to give it away earlier.

Sorry for the double post.

I did not know the time deadline, thank you.

I will do the drawing in about an hour, which should give people two hours to redeem it.

I -really- doubt they will announce a smaller one any time soon. It already has performance issues, and relatively low battery life. I can't imagine there's enough technological advancements in the last year that alleviates that, while making it smaller.

I went up to 17,000 at one time & there were no issues.

Yeah, I completely agree. I don't even start thinking about any revision until the system in question has at least been out 2 years. So that would put any possibilities in to late 2019-early 2020. With an announcement in early 2019, maybe E3 that year. So while I do believe something will happen at some point, I certainly don't see it happening anytime soon that's for sure.

Curious why you think a smaller Switch could be likely at all? Things like cell phones have been getting progressively bigger and I see people in stores using tablets half the time.

Even in terms of Nintendo, we'd have to go back to the Gameboy Micro, right? And that was not well received. Any other changes only made the system smaller while mostly keeping the screens the same, which couldn't happen with the Switch. I get that some people consider it bulky but the trends even with their handhelds were to the XL systems, not smaller screens.

I could kind of see a redesign towards better processing but then you run the risk of pissing people off if you end up welcoming a "New 3DS" situation where people are basically forced into upgrading to play certain games. But I honestly can't think of any scenario that leads to a smaller system.

No matter what, "N" has a built in fanbase of kids and small children, and the NS isn't really for that market. Of course some kids have them, but certainly not in the DS/2DS/3DS numbers. They need a cheap entry level option for parents on a budget, and the NS sure as hell ain't it.

I'd be fine if they made a bigger Switch that had a 50% increase in battery life. Really starting to get annoyed by how quickly you burn through a full charge on this thing.

It wouldn't be a Game Boy Micro. It would be a version of the Switch designed to actually be portable with a smaller size around what the Vita is with no removeable JoyCons that would be easy to put in your pants/shorts pocket to take with you.

so I was able to get the 2000 points added to my wii shop channel account, thanks Kojubat!

anyone have any recommendations on what to get?

i've heard there are some wiiware exclusive games that aren't on wii u/3ds/switch, but i don't know where to start

Zelda for me went from, wait two hours in line to get a Wii; to, eh, I should pick up BotW before my preorder gets canceled.

There are parts that I liked; I had no idea the Divine Beasts existed until I spotted the one in Gerudo because I wandered there right after finishing Great Plateau. But then it slowly starting getting so monotonous after that, with so little of the game having any real purpose other than to take up time, that I ended up feeling relieved it's over by the time I finished it.

Zelda should be like, 50 hrs tops anyway.

(I loved WW, even though sailing got so boring I'd set a course and leave the room for 10min. I usually made it to my destination.)

I loved ALBW on the 3DS. It was the first Zelda game I finished. Before that I had played OOT and the GBC games and couldn't get into them. Tried Wind Waker, didn't hold my interest for too long. Then BOTW blew me away and it's one of my favorite games of all time (put almost 80 hrs into it).

Moral of the story: Almost everyone is going to disagree when we talk about what's a great Zelda game.

You hit the nail on the head, and I also like your idea for the sailing portions of WW, that may have helped me at the time. LOL

Yeah, I finished the first Divine Beast, and wandered some more, to come to the same point you did. For those who just want to fill a hundred plus hours, BotW should be a top buy, but for me no thank you. I'm still wondering how that game got the reviews it did, as it was just wash, rinse and repeat. The only reason I ever finished WW, was due to how short it was, as it wasn't as boring as BotW, due to a more focused mission. I will say I did like BotW open world, over WW open sea, but both are huge snore fest. LOL

This. For fans of the series it seems to come down to exploration vs dungeons, which they prefer. I'm a huge Zelda fan, I've 100% completed every main game and most handheld games (and at least finished the rest), and BotW is my favorite of the series, only tied by Majora's Mask. There's so much depth to the world in BotW, I could play it forever. I've been waiting for that sense of wonder to wear off and still hasn't. Perfectly deserving of its like 200 GOTY awards imo.

Also it has a motorcycle now. Epona or some flute or whatever just can't compare to that.

THAT SAID, I do hope they still make top down "traditional" Zeldas (or ZELDA MAKER), as I think they have their place and go well with open world 3D Zelda games. Sort of like side scroller Metroid vs Prime, 2D vs 3D Mario and so on. Two different games, both with different fans and appeal.

tldr art is subjective and mona lisa is ugly

Of the games I've played, which includes most at this point, the best have been Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask, Windwaker, and Phantom Hourglass (in that order).

Commonly highly considered entries in the series I haven't played are Skyward Sword, BotW, and the Seasons games.
