Look, future proofing by buying DVDs instead of VHS is way different than buying a monitor that is essentially useless without a significant expenditure. I assume you bought a DVD player or PS2 within a reasonable time. Right now the only cards that are capable of pushing 4k somewhat confidently are 1080 and 1080ti. And we know MysterD ain't buying that anytime soon. He's going to have $250 4K monitor he won't push and by the time he's doing 4K you'll be able to buy 4K monitors for cheaper. It's an illogical choice that I honestly could care less about if the same dude wasn't constantly complaining about spending $80 for a console when that's suggested to him.
I was in the market for a 1440p monitor mostly. I saw the 4K monitor - bought that b/c I can run at 1440p and when I do buy/build a new PC I'll be aiming for 4K. I'm not doing 1080p on this rig for the most part, so I'm happy with that. Crank AA, AF, sharpening, and other stuff up - and you're good to go w/ killing the downgrade blur.
I don't feel like dropping money on a bunch of consoles for a handful of game across each console. It's not like we'd be talking one console here. I'd literally have to go after PS2/3/4, Nintendo Wii/Wii U/Switch, and maybe some Xbox 360/Xbox One systems and/or games. Depends on re-releases, backward compatible, and all of that stuff. No thanks. All of that $$ - yeah, I could instead throw at more PC games, PC hardware, PC peripherals, or just build/buy a new PC.
Listen, I love the PC. I'm more of a PC platform fan than a console fan; especially these days and age. Especially since the end of the PSX era. PC's can do a lot more IMHO, provided you have the software and/or hardware to handle such matters. Especially if you want to aim for 60fps, which not all console games aim for.
EDIT:
If it's not a big deal then why do you continue to whinge and have unrealistic expectations for PC ports that will never happen? Because "it'd be easier for gamers everywhere?" No, it'd just be easier for you since you're too lazy and stubborn to go to a garage sale or a Goodwill to grab an old console or even emulate anything.
And we really didn't need the full list of acronyms (aka games) you need to finish. I guess we can all wonder if you'll ever finish CoD: Ghosts. (Who are we kidding, you won't, you'll just continue to pine for a PC port of RDR.)
I dunno, why do people mention console games like God of War 2018 in a "Steam Thread"? Granted, we do go off the rails here about shoes, pizza, and God knows whatelse - but if one comments about console games in a Steam thread, what do you expect from me? You know it's incoming pretty much; y'all in here know me this well by now.
What's next? We gonna have DRM and anti-tamper discussions? Maybe some client-service discussions about Steam v. UPlay v. Origin v. any others too?
I haven't finished CoD Ghosts namely b/c I got side-tracked with other games. I'll likely get back to it, when I'm in the mood for a CoD type of game. And I do have a bunch of CoD's to play, as I'm behind on that franchise; such as: COD AW & COD BO 3. Since you brought up COD, I probably at some point need to catch CoD Infinite Warfare for its SP campaign in a sale, since the MP that I played was so atrocious on a Free Weekend.
That list that I threw, that ain't even nearly even close to the amount of games I have untouched, unfinished, and/or currently playing. That list would be a mile much longer, if I even went there.
Crap, besides my digital backlogs - I still have plenty of games on disc from retail that never hit digital, such as John Woo's Stranglehold.
