Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

ahh the old lazy devs cynical thing. Actually 1.0 on the Xbox has a ton to offer so far. I've pretty much moved from Xbox to PC more for squads with friends than anything, but don't believe this kid's hype. Making games isn't easy and he doesn't know any more than the devs.
I never said it was easy. I'm complaining because the devs (or more likely publisher) seem to care more about monitization than fixing the core experience. On PC, they were selling cosmetics while the game was an absolute mess with trash optimization and horrible rubberbanding. Player Unknown himself doesn't have an industry background, or really a gaming background outside of the ultra specific genre PUBG is part of, and a lot of his statements and opinions make me think he shouldn't have quite as much control as he does, regardless of complaints about how badly the game runs. Just look up some interviews with him.

With this update it does seem that they've somewhat fixed the base Xbox One but it still is a shitshow on X. Players have been asking for the option to turn down the settings as it would likely fix the problem but that has fallen on deaf ears for months now.

What really bothers me the most is that they make a TON of money with this game, with that amount surely about to go up with the introduction of G-coins, and they don't seem to be willing or able to fix the basic problems that have been there SINCE LAUNCH. Compare it to Fortnite, which was a bit rough at launch but gradually improved over a couple months to the point where they increased the framerate to 60 FPS. It has occasional networking hiccups now but it's much much more stable than PUBG, and they're running on the exact same engine.

Because there needs to be more and more Xbox bundles to confuse people with the holidays coming up:

https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/consoles/xbox-one-s/two-controllers-1tb?ocid=Platform_soc_omc_xbo_tw_Photo_buy_9.4.2
Here are all of the bundles --> https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/consoles

There are almost as many bundles for the One X as there are for the One S, and it looks like at some point MS finally brought that Minecraft Xbox One S down to a reasonable price point.

EDIT - And it looks like the 500GB consoles are no more.

Damn, 19 bundles and then you add all the different controllers that's crazy.

Nice. In for Destroy All Humans. Would have been nice if more og xbox games were included but I wasn't even expecting what is on there.

I feel like they must have some decent sales planned for the holidays with these bundles. There were too many bundles for most retailers to want to carry all of them last year, and this is way more then there was then.

The Minecraft system has been sold out for over a month and I doubt it gets restocked. I'm still kicking myself for not buying it when it came with 2 free games and the pig controller for $300.

So what problem are you personally seeing on the X, been playing since last night, what's the exact issue?

Dropping the 500GB consoles is odd to me. I think the $199 bundles are the sweet spot at a full $100 cheaper than a Switch. I bought the Forza 3/Hot Wheels bundle from Best Buy in late December for $199 and they threw in Rocket League and 3 months of Game Pass.

If you need more than 500GB, you might as well buy a 2-4TB portable drive for $100 or less when the time comes (and probably use it with the next Xbox as well).

For me the 1.0 patch compared to the previous patches is night and day. When I played on my X the image wouldn't appear on my TV for a couple of minutes even though the game was loaded and I could move around/jump out of the plane. I'd have to have my squad mate tell me when to jump and how to move so I wouldn't die immediately.

Before the previous patch this would happen maybe 1 every 5 matches. After the previous patch it happened EVERY match. After the 1.0 patch it has not happened.

It must've been an X problem because my roommate with a VCR X1 never had it happen.

Only problems I've had so far is a couple of matches I'd land on a roof that hadn't loaded fully and I'd float in the falling stance until it loaded or the whole building hadn't fully rendered and I could run through walls until it loaded after a couple seconds. One time the buildings loaded but the furniture hadn't loaded and when it finally did I got stuck on a couch for a second.

The problems I have had are small things I see in games near release that I can stand for the time being. My big problem with PUBG is them following the same model as fortnite but they're charging for the game on top of the monthly pass. Plus from what I've heard you can earn the paid currency through the season pass challenges in fortnite while you can't in PUBG. It seems like they're trying to follow two different microtransaction models which I feel is a problem.

Bought Beholder on sale last month.  It's $1.50 less now compared to then.  Them's the breaks I guess.

It was a good game, nothing amazing.  Gameplay and style kinda reminded me of This War of Mine.  Depressing mostly-black-and-white game that is less about action and more about making tough choices.

In Beholder, you play as the overseer of a hotel, spying on people for big bad government.  You report their transgressions and talk to them to learn about their miserable lives.  Moral choices abound.  Do you spend your money to get medicine for your sick child, or use the cash instead to frame a tenant as your boss instructs?  That kinda stuff.

A few main gripes about an otherwise nice game.

1.  Everything is timed.  It's one of those games.  If you dont play your cards right, and plan ahead, you will need multiple playthroughs - or careful reloading of earlier saves - to achieve some specific goals because you wont know how complicated the tasks get until you've failed them sometimes.

2.  There are often multiple ways to solve a problem, but sometimes the solutions are too specific.  I had to check a guide a couple times to figure out what the game wanted from me.  No spoilers.

3.  This is one of the few games I've played on Xbox One that just screams "I shouldn't be played with a controller."  When the entire game is timed, you need responsive control of your character and actions.  This was just frustrating.

Still, for 6 dollars, I dont regret it.  For 4.50, I'd say give it a shot if the premise interests you and you dont mind the gripes I listed.

Meanwhile, I think tonight I may finally start Assassins Creed Origins after 9 months.  I finished Kingdom Come last week, and I'm ready for a new sprawling adventure.

I think dropping the 500 option is to mitigate people assuming they'll need bigger HDD instantly on purchase of the console. Even if you're a casual player now you could fill up 500 gigs in a very short time.

You actually have about 360 gigs available for use to start with. Say I'm a casual player that picks up the newest Halo and Gears, that's about 200 right there. Add in GTA V (70 gigs), a Call of Duty or Battlefield(50 to 60), and a single sports or racing game (40-60). Boom, already filled.

Same goes for GamePass, there are at least 3 games that are 100 gigs on there, Halo 5, Gears 4, and Quantum Break.

I find it ridiculous that there isn't a single 2TB+ XBX bundle.

Browsing through my achievements and noticed FFXV is listed as the Windows Edition. Anybody else play the Xbox version and it shows Windows now?
Didn't see anyone reply to you. Mine's always been that way, but I started with the Royal Edition back in March. Always thought it was weird.

Makes sense but to me but why not have a bundle with 500GB onboard + a portable 2 TB Xbox drive. Advertise the drive as compatible should they upgrade to an X.

I don't think Microsoft actually produces any external HDDs, all the "official" ones are licensed as far as I've seen. This probably isn't that much of a hurdle by itself, but maybe they don't want to deal with warrantying these kinds of drives. Having worked retail, it could be idiot proofing of some kind so people don't have to set up a HDD unless they buy one themselves. Or maybe they just don't want make new customers think that upgrading soon is necessary. I'd guess a lot of people buying an Xbox One S for the first time in this generation aren't likely to upgrade to an X before the Xbox Two is here.

At least you have some big content coming to Pinball FX3. This was pretty much guarenteed when that other game announced they lost the license, but at least it's confirmed now.

As far as BC goes, I'd maybe wait and see if SSX 3 goes on sale. Unless you plan on playing online or prefer the realistic take, 3 is the better game.

Didn't see anyone reply to you. Mine's always been that way, but I started with the Royal Edition back in March. Always thought it was weird.
It is weird, especially since the Windows version didn't exist when I started playing last year. They must have the same achievement list? I don't know.

Maybe I’m just lucky, but I haven’t had any real issues with PUBG on my X for quite a long time. Every time I see a post complaining about it, I wonder if they’ve even played the game recently. Played a number of matches on different maps last night and had zero issues.

The pinball thing is so annoying. I wish Zen and Farsight would just team up. Zen blows them away in almost every category...content variety, presentation, pricing, updates, etc.

But Farsight's actual pinball feel is still better.

if I could get a Pinball FX that plays like Pinball Arcade it would be pretty incredible.

Also annoying: feedback on PUBG. It has been this way for like 6 months now, but every time they release a patch feedback comes in and it's always all over the place. People swear up and down that Sanhok framerate dips into what looks like single digits as it gets to close quarters while in the game, but personally I've seen nothing like this. Performance has been totally fine for me on all maps. Not saying it couldn't use some improvement, but the frame rate still seems to hold at about 30 without much drop.

With that said - holy shit is it gross what they've done with the marketplace/loot boxes in that game. Definitely looks like they put just as much if not more time into that element - making sure they had a bunch of food cosmetic stuff - than they did making sure the game had everything they were saying it would with a 1.0 release (war mode coming "late September" now).

From what I’ve heard from people playing the new tables in beta is that it feels more realistic (so maybe more like TPA).

I don’t mind more loot boxes and ways to buy them in PUBG. Cosmetics are cool for some and others don’t need to buy them.

I was actually happy they didn’t drop everything for 1.0 at the same time. I didn’t think it would go well, and so cutting down the amount of stuff they’d have to deal with makes sense.

This place has legitimately ruined me.

I own all bar Catherine...
Catherine has a remaster announced, but seems to have substantial new content since it has a third woman to date. Only announced for PS4 and Vita so far, but the western release hasn't been detailed yet so it could come to Xbox for us.

Sooooo Let's do 2 this week

Swapquest seems really really lame and Pac-man 256 I heard was really fun, so lets do both!

I'll randomly generate 2 winners, and the 1st person can pick what they want and the 2nd will get whatever is left!

As always,

LIKE THIS POST FOR A CHANCE TO WIN

Swapquest OR Pac-man 256 FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

There’s some bizarre stuff going on with the Xbox store. Was thinking of getting Castle of Illusion and it just says “Redeem Code” rather than letting you buy it. Ditto with Jet Set Radio.

I did manage to buy (after some errors):
Winterbottom
NBA Jam on Fire Edition
Destroy All Humans
MX Unleashed

Any thoughts on Sega Bass Fishing? I'm thinking about it for $1.24 and would like to know if it's worth picking up. Definitely going to Get NBA Jam on Fire Edition and MX Unleashed.
