Humble Bundle Thread

Bad timing on that Metal Gear V early unlock.

Not particularly pleased with the October unlocks, either...but eh, I sold the early unlocks for a profit.

Good thing the early unlocks were great because these reveals are absolute trash.

MGS V + Cities Skylines for next month is nothing that special either since both get heavily discounted by now.

Holy crap. Dodged a bullet. Was gonna go for the monthly and sell the early unlocks to that dude in the cesspool who almost pays full price so he can flip it all, but dang. The leftovers wouldn't have been worth the $0.50.

What do you mean guys? Games from 2005, 2012, 2013, and a couple from 2016 don't entice you to sign up for an entire year?

I paid $20 something for Sniper Elite V2 and it remains one of my favorite games.  Would have gladly paid $50 for it.  That alone makes this month a steal at only $12.

Not the best unlocks (also why no Dead Island Sequel?). I didn't have Dead Reset or the Sniper Elites so it's aight I guess. Just not amazing. MGSV is a bit old, but eh I've wanted to play Cities for a bit so it will do.

Meh all around. Next month is worse. I mean cities skylines is one of my favorite games but it was just on sale for $7.50 or so. That plus the after dark dlc is worth $12 tops.

I unfortunately used some Humble wallet on Phantom Pain earlier this year. Though I haven't redeemed it.  Next month might still be worth it, as I don't have Skylines.

This month...meh.

It's worth it, I guess, if only because I've already been playing HITMAN for the past couple of weeks. The Sniper Elite games lend no value, though I assume they were pretty cheap to throw in. Resident Evil Revelations I already have. Everything else is new, and at least a minor want. Really, though, this was a monthly I was planning on skipping, and would have been fine with skipping, if not for HITMAN as a headliner.

Man, the early reveals for this month were awesome but I don't think I'm keeping a single game out of the reveals today. I mean...ugh...Dead Island? Hard Reset (which has been in like 600 bundles it feels like)? Sniper Elite (from 2005)?

Even still it's a decent bundle for me, I got Hitman and Hollow Night and sold 7 Days to Die for like 3 bucks. Gonna put the rest of these in the cesspool, hopefully will get another 5 bucks or so for them. Even shitty months are okay if you're willing to go through the trouble of selling the crap.

Hard Reset Redux was never bundled, it's been dirt cheap though

Hard Reset Redux has been quite cheap many times, but has not been bundled before. Predicted this would end up in a Humble Monthly, as another game by the same publisher, Pathologic Classic HD, was also deep discounted prior to being in a Monthly.

Unlocks are pretty laughable in that stuff like Hard Reset*, Derp Island, and the earlier Sniper Elites have been bundled to death. Ah well. Will probably stay subbed as $12 is a decent price for Phantom Derp and Cities Skylines.

* Even if Hard Reset hasn't been bundled it's been pennies on the dollar for around five or so years now. Sniper Elite was given away for free on Steam. Sniper Elite 1... that's Poopies level of bundle content.

Cancelling Humble Monthly gives an offer for $3 off the next one.

Which is kind of like my offer of more tax cuts if you vote Republicat in the mid-terms ...

Unlocks for this month are laughable and continue to demonstrate that humble is breaking its rule about not having games in monthly previously bundled.  While the overall MSRP value is supposedly higher than last couple of months, plenty of people have pointed out the many of the games have been heavily discounted.  Overall, yes I got $12 worth of games but feel meh about the unlocks.  Sorry but I could easily curate better.

Regarding December, this is tough for me as I admit that MGS is a highly praised game and Cities Skyline is a well received city builder.  Both have been cheap/discounted.  MGS even had a couple of GMG bundles (one for $4 which had all 3 games) lately that should have told me not to buy and wait for the humble bundle.

I was hoping that December would have had a better early unlock i.e. Dying Light, Hellblade, something.  No Mans Sky will be later as the updates have helped the game.  Here is hoping that the unlocks for December are good and that we have a great winter sale.

I imagine they'll have to reveal another early unlock for the December bundle.. because subs are going to be weak as fuck for it with only MGS5/Cities Skylines known. For many of the bundles the headliners offer enough value to be worth $12 alone (Hitman/Hollow Knight/7 Days being a good example), but with the recent GMG bundles and cheap sales prices for Skylines I don't think this is the case for the December bundle.

MGS5 would have been a good headliner a few months ago, but they waited too long to use it so now it's backfiring.

I'm also pretty annoyed with Skylines being one key. I only want the DLC, but alas.
Yeah I'm probably one of the few people that held out on buying Skylines so that was a decent reveal for me. It's funny that they give THREE keys for MGS, but just 1 key for Skylines lol.

As crazy as it is... I only had The two Sniper Elite games.

I likely should have sold stuff yesterday but I really wanted to get to sleep at the proper time... Looks like I'll have to make a posts and posts trying to offload my dupes instead of just getting it all done with a reseller. (And I don't see a single game in the bundle that will make procrastination pay off. (ARK, Overwatch, Total Warhammer(?) all paid for their respected bundles when I sold them.)

Also I need to decide if I want next months bundle... I have MGSV already.

I'm also concerned this bundle will really wind up being crap since I'm lukewarm on the early reveals and I don't think I've been happy with the rest of the bundle reveals since the Destiny 2 bundle, which had Styx/Yooka Laylee in it

for now though I'm okay with sticking with it, the bundles haven't been overall great recently, but between the discount of a year long subscription and selling off the games I don't want i typically spend less than 4 dollars a bundle max, which is usually more than worth it

If you don't already own the DLC you can activate the DLC key and get another copy of TPP. That's what I did and ended up selling the keys and extra gift copy for $6 total. Was better than I expected to get since the value for the headliners sucks.

I do not own the DLC... Does it just auto give you another copy of TPP? (And I would have two copies of the base game, yes?)

This last month was the final straw for me and cancelled after the unlocks. Been subbed since Sept 2017 and while there have been some gems here and there, it would have been cheaper for me to just buy the few games I actually wanted from the previous 14 bundles. Yes yes, that is part of the appeal is the mystery but there are limits to my willingness to roll the dice.

So if you own none of the MGS games and activate the 3 Humble keys, do you get a gift copy of TPP too? Or do you have to own TPP from Steam or a different key?

I'm pausing after last month, and I already own both Cities Skylines and the MGS games from previous bundles. Running out of games was inevitable for Humble.

EDIT: I like how they ask you 5 times if you want to pause, changing the arrangement of the buttons each time. They give you $2 off and try to trick you into not pausing, and it looks like some scammy shit.

Me too. :bouncy:

So December looks pretty good to me. It's Humble's to fumble at this point.

Eh, I don't feel like this should be an issue. I feel like they release way less bundles than they did in their golden age days, where they always had bundles every two weeks in addition to weekly bundles, and the biweekly bundles were usually pretty damn good (and sometimes the weekly ones weren't too shabby either). Right now typically the only bundle worth anything is their monthly. Their weekly bundles are typically either crap, or recycled games, and it's not unusual for them to skip a week or do software bundles or console bundles. The monthly is their main game at this point. There are plenty of games out there that seem like prime bundle material (Enter the Gungeon, Divinity Original Sin, Binding of Isaac Rebirth, Pyre, Night in the Woods, Downwell, Axiom Verge, Shadow Warrior 2, Salt and Sanctuary, Darkest Dungeon, etc are all games I don't believe have been in a bundle yet), that are all at least a year old I think and in some cases older, which would make for either very nice reveals, and in some cases some pretty good headliners. Maybe it's harder to get people to commit to bundles or something now, I don't know, but I don't think "running out of games" is why we just had a bunch of reveals where everything came out in like 2011 or earlier. Not sure what the issue is but there's plenty of stuff out there to be bundled

Yep, there's tons of decent indie titles that have yet to be bundled over the last couple of years -- IGN/nu-Hamble is just too cheap/lazy/whatever to get them.

I believe that the quality has taken a hit ever since IGN took over. Like Pasports and others, there are plenty of games that could be bundled vs Resident Evil Revelations being put in a monthly when it was bundled twice before as an example. Most of us CAGs could do a decent bundle curation. Thumbs up on Pyre being suggested and I would add Transistor to that as well (both Supergiant games).

As mentioned previously, it did not help that MGS was previously bundled and heavily discounted prior. At this point, I would not be surprised to see Just Cause 3 XL (lowest $5.37 on a site and $6.74 on Steam) headline the monthly for January.

Man, I didn't even think of Transistor. Hard to believe that hasn't been bundled after Bastion was in like 287 bundles.

I'm shocked JC3 hasn't been in a bundle yet, I think it's due to headline a monthly along with some other game, particularly since JC4 is coming out soon.

Given that many bundle sites have gone away and what's left isn't nearly as good as the old days, I think game makers and publishers don't see as much value in indie bundles as they used to. It is why you see a lot more repeats, lesser quality games and such. Bundles have mostly run its course.

THis is the most likely explanation imo. In addition to worse bundles, sales have gotten worse. I think people have just readjusted their approach to how they sell their games in general, whether it be in bundles or on steam or whatever

While this is all true, I think Valve can share the blame as well. Look at the kind and quantity of garbage that they've allowed onto Steam by opening the proverbial floodgates. Because the quality of the average "indie" game has declined dramatically, there are fewer things that are worth putting in bundles. I wouldn't say that they're exactly running out of games, but is a bundle that features Sniper Elite and RE: Revelations better or worse than one that features Incel Clicker and ULTIMATE HARDBASS DEFENCE? The fact that there simply are more objectively bad games on Steam than in past years has to have some effect on the process of finding and securing keys for games for bundles.

I don't think this is the case at all. I don't see what Steam being overflowed with shitty games has to do with Humble not getting renown indie games in their bundles. It's not like nobody knows what Darkest Dungeon is because Steam is being saturated with clicker games and asset flip specials. Maybe there's a connection but I don't see it.

It might matter more for smaller bundle sites, since it's harder to sift through all the crap to find the gems. Shouldn't matter at all for Humble though. I wouldn't be surprised if some devs contact them first than the other way around.

I think this is just a case of Humble being cheap/lazy and being in desperate times. A lot of their staff got laid off a while back and the IGN takeover while profitable to them probably didn't help the actual business.
