Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

I haven't paid full price in a long while but I'm super tempted to get Bloodstained since SOTN is one of my all time faves. I've got so much backlog though...

I finally finished FarCry 5 proper, and planned on playing a game or two (still working through AC:Unity) before hitting one of the FC5 DLCs. I'd really like to get caught up to at least AC:Origins, finish Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of War, RE7, and Owlboy before I have to go back to teaching in the fall. Tall order, I know.

Sonic is more nuanced than it would appear just watching a video. CTR is all about boosting and chaining boosts. Sonic has boosts from drifting and doing stunts but also has a slipstream component that can be critical as well as a team mechanic that makes it more than just winning a race on your own.

Both are nuanced in their own ways. I just like the feel of Sonic better.

Both seem to have great track variety. Haven’t played all the CTR tracks so cant fully comment on those yet but love the multilevel nature of many of the Sonic tracks with lots of branching and short cuts.

But if anyone tells you Sonic isn’t nuanced, they clearly haven’t played the game or aren’t taking time to notice all the mechanics.

That isn’t to say CTR isn’t a great game. It just isn’t for me. All opinion. :)

Clearly the reviewers like it more than I do.

I watched a streamer that I like play CTR last night. This guy plays everything on hard and just recently went back through the original PS1 game leading up to the release. The difficulty was brutal. Even he called BS on it. Racers were outrunning homing weapons without boosting and he couldn’t catch them with continuous drifting and boosting. Makes me glad I never got it.

Physical Bloodstained is $32.84 at Amazon. I really like it a lot, they totally nailed a throw back to SotN but I do have that patch looming over my head...

Didn't realize the disparity between the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S until I played Darksiders 2 this morning. Holy hell. It's barely playable and looks like crap on the S. On the other hand it looks amazing on the X and runs smooth as butter. Wow.

Yeah went to a friends this last week for vacation, did some local co-op, didn't realize how much I'd miss my X and my SSD

Are there any hard drives out there that let you format like a certain amount of storage depending on what you have plugged into it? For instance, I have a 3TB HDD so like 1tb would be my laptop and 1tb would be my One X etc. As far as I know, I have to format the entire drive to only use one device which I find pretty lame. Are all hard drives like this? Am I making any sense?

Format the drive and then with the storage management tool in windows make two different volumes. I don't know if Xbox would recognize this. A computer would recognize it as two different drives or volumes (for example c: and d:)

I know that. My question is why can't they make HDDs that allow different devices to use it? Why is it always only one? Why can't I use 1 TB only for my laptop and 1TB only for my Xbox One X or 2 TB for One X or however I want?

Cause money.

I can't believe this is actually a question you're asking btw

Probably has more to do with copy protection then anything else IMO.  If you could install Linux on one partition and all your XBox games in another it would probably make it easier for someone to create tools in Linux that could be used to pirate the XBox Games.

I didn't think of this but yes it's another reason.

Did you look at who asked the question? lol

No offense either, Freeze Time. You're just as much a part of this family as any of us, but you are who you are :) And I mean that in the nicest way possible
I didn't at first then I realized he's the same guy that had the 3 day fight with Microsoft customer service and kept posting on here then wouldn't explain what he kept arguing with them for. Lol

also side note there is a hard 3 USB hard drive storage limit on the Xbox One even with a hub, found that out last weekend

It was actually a week-long and I did post some of it in the game pass thread probably. I actually don't remember which one. They kept feeding me misinformation over and over again starting with online support telling me the $1 deal is good until November and adding 36 months and then doing the promo would give me GPU until July 2022 and then I called up and was told they don't know when it will end and that by adding 36 months, I would lose 3 of them. Then a supervisor hung up on me refusing to just give me 9 months of gold for all of their mistakes which would equal 36 months on my account.

Another supervisor told me to wait until July 12th and then add a 12-month card to my account and it would work and also told me that dollar promotion is always going to be good as long as you are a new member. It will always be a dollar is what he told me. The next day the website said the deal ended in 14 days and I called again and another supervisor said yeah deal ends in 14 days so if you add 12 months next month then you won't get the dollar promo.
Microsoft also ignored 6 tweets at them in 3 days. I finally called up again and like I stated already in a previous post, a non supervisor actually looked at everything and realized I was warranted a 9 month credit of gold for all of the time and misinformation. He also pretty much told me the supervisors lied and that they could have given me gold they just didn't want to.

I spent a total of about 4 hours on the phone with them but in the end, I got the 9 months of credit on my account and now I have Game Pass ultimate for 36 months.

I'm glad you got a resolution but damn that was an ordeal.

Didn't realize the disparity between the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S until I played Darksiders 2 this morning. Holy hell. It's barely playable and looks like crap on the S. On the other hand it looks amazing on the X and runs smooth as butter. Wow.
Keep in mind that between all current-gen Sony and MS consoles, the X1/X1S is the worst performer by a substantial margin, and the X1X is the best performer by a substantial margin. The two X1 options are at the extreme ends of the performance spectrum from each other.

I'd just like my damn Xbox One S to run very simple things like the user interface without lag. Good grief. Just awful.

On a computer from the 1980s or an early smartphone, I could almost understand it, but on a game system from the 2010s? I feel like I should be feeding my system bran flakes.

This is also why there are a number of games that play better on PS4 since they never got a X patch. Some of those older games run at 900p or even down at 720p on Xbox One with worse frame rates. Without a patch they are stuck at those lower specs on the X. There are also a handful of games that got PS4 Pro patches that never got an X making the disparity in quality for those games even worse. I still hold out hope that some of them will get Xbox One X or Scarlett patches in the future. I mean hell, we actually got Darksiders II, Mass Effect Andromeda, and Borderlands Handsome Collection patches.

That's my oddly obscure #1 thing the next box better have. I need snappier response out of the dashboard. I'm sure we're a bunch of edge cases between BC, Game pass and MS Rewards cashing in on digital sales. My Xbox library is pretty much rivaling my Steam library at this point. Granted I don't think anything was helped by the fact at it's core it was designed around an entirely different idea of the system with Kinect and snapping apps to the side. I'd actually wouldn't mind the snap feature to come back, having true achievements app on the right side of the screen with a video of something I was trying to go for was pretty awesome. I even remember back in the day a few reputable places like GiantBomb reporting that the OS for the Xbox One was coming in super hot, like it was basically being programmed in at the last minute, hence the giant updates on launch day.

The S is definitely better though. Smaller, plays 4k blu rays, internal power supply, blu tooth controller.

I had a two week fight with PlayStation network customer service so I sold my PlayStation and said fuck you forever.

any chance for a link, I won't even tell you what Bestbuy.com comes up with searching Ultimate Game Pass
If you narrow things down by starting with 'Products' and working your way to Xbox One, there's a thing for an 'introductory offer' that gives a broken URL when you click it. There WAS, at one time, a GPU 3 month card/code/whichever for $15, but at the moment, the only thing that actually works on the website at all is regular Game Pass.

Just finished The Turing Test last night for the 10 achievement quest, I enjoyed it (should have just played this instead of messing around with Astroneer lol).

With the weekly quest/ punchcard the Rewards app has now, can someone take a photo of it or something. I am trying to get support to help me with this as it has not been there for me for 2 weeks, I only had it the 1st week. They want me to show them a photo of what I am talking about but how can I if it is not there lol.

Also, the $5 Microsoft Rewards offer, when does that end?

how long did the Turing Test take to get to 10 achievements?

No doubt that the S is a much nicer console than the VCR X1 in several ways, but it still has the same mediocre performance, outside of a tiny enhancement to the GPU that was meant to accommodate HDR.

I had to repeat myself like 5 times on the phone so that's why I didn't feel like stating everything here again but damn, you people are nosey
Wait, you had shitty customer service so you think they owe you 9 months of Gold for free and were complaining that they wouldn't give it to you? Wow.
