Speaking of Epic, they are having a halloween sale till the 31st. $63.99 for Borderlands 3 deluxo edition. Base game is still 59.99. Oh, and the game selection is just amazing. AAAmazing.

Digital PC game shopping is like eating at the hospital or company cafeteria. It's a good price and you take whatever they have. Some days it's even Fiestada pizza.

But if you need to have your Starbucks or phone-in a sandwich delivery than it's one giant fail.

uhhhhh it's been awhile since I've bought anything from there but can Blue Coins no longer be purchased from Gamersgate?
Last time I made a purchase there the thing to do was buy ZGold and use that to pay, but ZGold went RIP and I haven't been back since.

re: Epic Games

I actually don't mind the small selection. I can scroll through the whole store and actually find games that look interesting. Can't say that about Steam.

i mean, you're right, but who the fuck browses through store pages during non sales? i'm cranky old elitist gamer where i know exactly what i want, whether it's from yt, twitch, my gaming sites, pirating, that clicking through a store catalog is a colossal waste of time.

I haven't been to Gamersgate since the zGold days but apparently they stopped selling Blue Coins in March.  And say "But you can still earn them through purchases, reviews, etc" although that's like being told you can save 15,000 Bazooka Joe comics for a new Atari.  True in theory, not really useful in practice.

No quotes for "Steam" and "dates"?

I'm looking at the Bethesda tables on sale but man we are long overdue for a humble bundle on some of the newer Pinball FX3 tables.  I remember buying the first two bundles, and forgetting about the third (which there were some overlaps in the lower tiers).

I still think it's so cool that we live in a world where Pinball FX3 exists.  It would have blown my little kid mind twenty years ago.

GamesRadar - Remedy pulls Patch 1.04 for Control from EGS b/c it forced the launcher with the new patch:
https://www.gamesradar.com/remedy-pulls-control-pc-patch-after-it-forced-players-to-launch-via-epic-games-store/

Notes:
- Remedy released Patch 1.04 with a new photo mode.
- Gamers noticed & complained that the new patch added EGS launcher forced for the boot-up.
- Patch 1.04 also forced only-online play, allowing for no offline mode.
- Patch 1.04 also caused gamers unable to load the game via Steam (probably as a Non-Steam game)
- Patch 1.04 also caused issues, removing Steam Controller support.
- Remedy says they were planning to validate future paid Expansions via the EGS store...
- ...but somehow, this EGS-forced boot winded up an "unintended consequence."
- They (Remedy) pulled Patch 1.04 and reverted back to the older version for now.
- They are re-doing that Patch 1.04 build to not have the EGS-launcher forced to boot the game & so you can play offline.

From Remedy - click on spoiler:

isn't this the same forum where people hoard chrono.gg coins for bundle fodder and microsoft reward points for whatever the hell you can redeem it for? people do crazy shit for free stuffs.

Reviews for The Outer Worlds are pretty damn good right now.

No surprise to me, as Obsidian's usually very consistent at making really good-to-great RPG's.

Got it all pre-loaded (around 38GB) from Microsoft's Xbox for PC Game Pass, for its release Thursday night.

No argument there but you can earn both of those for free. Having to buy shit from GG for 5% BC back isn't exactly a winning plan. Plus, the better the discount on GG (hah), the fewer Blue Coins you earn!

Outer Worlds, judging from the reviews, sounds like a game I'll enjoy playing and also be glad I didn't spend real money on.

I'm just now reading up on and catching up to the XBL Gamepass stuff.   Sounds like a great deal all around.   But how did you guys get deals on years to add to your accounts? (before the conversion).

It was just find cheap deals on Xbox gold or whatever since that converted too. There still plenty of ways to cheap out. I recently got a month pass free and then did a promo for a month at $2 and got a another free month added for auto renewal. Pretty sure I've spent like $10 and have been subbed most of the year.

I took advantage of a dashboard deal that kept working when you disabled auto renew. It was like $15 for six months of Gamepass or something. I used that to max out my three years after conversion to Ultimate.

I completely forgot Outer Worlds was a Gamepass title. I'm super excited now.

Lots of issues with WWE 2K20 right now.

Kotaku on the issues of WWE2K20 being "broken in every possible way":
https://kotaku.com/wwe-2k20-is-broken-in-every-possible-way-1839269389

Notes:
- #FixWWE2K20 is trending hard on Twitter right now
- Tons of issues: including online entrances issues, lag issues, etc.
- Tons of videos out there of graphical bugs, physics bugs, disappearing textures, wrestlers getting cloned, and other madness
- WWE 2K20 PC is currently sitting at "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam.
- Some who bought physical Collector's Ed with Edge's autograph signature, got no signature on their picture...
- ...So Edge (Adam Copeland) said if you send him your Edge pic to an address he gives you, he'll sign it and send it back.
- Kotaku is complaining the PC version doesn't run too well on their PC, while still not looking that great.

hmmm I wonder if this subscription conversion promotion will last all the way until Black Friday.  I need to find a way to get some subs cheaper than $59.99 for a year.

Hm. I thought the conversion thing ended a few weeks or months ago. I think I got about a year out of the deal by getting a couple of XBOX 6-month cards.

Oh Beth(esda)... in all sincerity, what the fuck?
Seriously--are they running out of money or something?!

Eurogamer - Command & Conquer: Remastered has a button to switch b/t graphics modes on-the-fly:

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-10-24-first-command-and-conquer-remastered-gameplay-shows-how-you-can-switch-between-classic-and-modern-graphics

Notes:

- C&C: Remastered will include C&C (original) & C&C: Red Alert with all of its expansions packs.

- C&C: Red Alert with all its expansion packs includes Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath.

- Source code was found & used to work on this Remaster.

- They are using a 2D style, to stay in line w/ the original game.

- From keeping the 2D style, this made it easier to allow for players to switch on-the-fly b/t the assets.

- The new assets were re-concepted, re-models, re-constructed, and re-animated from scratch.

- Assets range from 320x200 up to 3840x2160 assets (a.k.a. 2160p or 4K).

- Tap a single key while playing to switch b/t the assets & modes.

- You can also zoom in and out.

I have mixed feelings about this. I started trying to play the original games years after I'd played C&C 3 and Red Alert 3 (when EA released that giant C&C game pack--and I was still suffering from PTSD induced by Tiberian Twilight), and the older games are not just clunkier because the older interfaces were terrible. Far more so than later games in the series, every level in C&C felt like a puzzle that could only be solved one way, and if you didn't know what you were doing when you started, you could expect to get crushed by overwhelming enemy forces. It was sufficiently frustrating that I quit somewhere around the half-way mark of the campaign.

Also not being able to have build queues on the older games is a massive pain. I loved these games back in the day and also played them again from the big pack, and it is a bit painful. I think Tiberian Sun and on is fine to go with, although I haven't played 4, which I believe is the equivalent of nuclear waste.

WWE 2K20 info on Yukes, Visual Concepts, the engine/tools, why this game's so broken, and PS4 version refunds:
Polygon - https://www.polygon.com/2019/8/7/20758462/wwe-2k20-yukes-visual-concepts-pc-ps4-xbox-one-pc
RingSideNews.com - https://www.ringsidenews.com/2019/10/23/why-wwe-2k20-was-released-as-a-broken-game/
GameRant - https://gamerant.com/wwe-2k20-refunds-sony-broken/

Notes:
- Yukes has been making wrestling video games for almost 20 years.
- Yukes is going to make their own original wrestling video game.
- Supposedly, it is still using the same tools & the game has been re-tooled since the PS2 era.
- Previous WWE games (since WWE 2K15), Yukes and Visual Concepts have co-developed & worked on it together.
- Visual Concepts had to work on the game fully this time for WWE2K20, without Yukes.
- And the deadline was still there to get the game out by a certain date, so...the broken-game was released anyways!
- Sony is offering up refunds, for those who feels it's too broken on the PS4 version.
