I don't really think religion has much to do with most of them besides xmas/Hanukkah and kwanza (insert what the hell is kwanza futurama joke here) turkey days mainly about family driving eachother crazy and eating large amounts of food to most.  xmas is opening stuff for most. New years getting trashed and making poor life choices or starting some type of goal you'll never keep.

But yeah xmas is more for the kids than for me these days.  I could remember a time where I'd be up at like 5-6 am excited to open presents.  But now that I am and old fart I'd rather sleep in til at least 9.

Maybe Thursday. Last year they posted the "Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals" on the Monday before BF week. They just did the same thing today. If they follow the same schedule, they'll probably post the deals on Thursday.

The card was priced at $90 for $100 initially and the $15 off sweetened the deal to $75.

There are deals on cards regularly. I also bought a $50 eshop card for $40 this week.

I literally never heard of Disco Elysium until now, but it seems to be sweeping a number of categories, so now I'm intrigued. I've tried looking up a few reviews, but I still can't get a handle on what it actually is. (Edit: Never mind, the PS4 port doesn't come until next year.)

I've only played Control (thanks GameFly free trial) and Resident Evil 2 (thanks RedBox free rental), but I'm hoping the others feel more like a GOTY than those. Last year, God of War and Spider-Man seemed like much stronger choices.

Control or Sekiro. Death Stranding isn't even in the same arena and only getting a nod because it's Kojima.
 
From that list... Death Stranding is my game of the year, followed by Sekiro. This could change; I haven't finished Death Stranding completely yet, but I am 60 hours in and feeling confident of that determination right now.

RE2 felt pared down and basic; I wanted something a lot closer to RE4 in terms of gameplay and character. Control's voice acting and writing really bothered me, it felt super on the nose and choppy rather than charmingly campy. The Outer Worlds was missing all kinds of things I felt like I needed to enjoy the game like a strong central plot, NPC daily routines, enemy variety, etc.

Games not on the list... FFXIV: Shadowbringers was pretty great. Probably played that more than anything else. And though it came out last year, I played Octopath Traveler on PC this year. That was also a fantastic experience with amazing music and interesting gameplay if not a spotty story.

I've played through Control, RE2, and The Outer Worlds and all 3 will most certainly be in my top ten of the year but Control is the standout.

 
I’m pretty far into The Outer Worlds.  At first it seems like a deep and sweeping RPG but quickly becomes very shallow when it comes to character progression, combat, story and quests.  It does nothing new but at least it doesn’t do anything poorly.  A very competent 7/10 game but nothing I would consider a GOTY.

I'm an atheist too. Enjoying the holidays with your family does not require faith in a god, it requires recognizing time with your family is a beautiful thing. Enjoy it. Go overboard, decorate a tree together. Even as an atheist, I recognize that being able to find that joyous time together with your family is far superior to feeling above it. Plainly put, finding joy, fun, and love is clearly superior to looking down your nose at the same. And if you can't find that joy inside yourself to celebrate with your mom, perhaps the belief system you've built up for yourself isn't all it's cracked up to be. Plenty of people would love to have that chance to enjoy time with their mother, and someday you might regret it not being your kink.

I wish someone was able to convince me of this when i was a young atheist. Do what you will, i'm just a voice on the internet providing unasked life advice.
 
Literally just finished Control this weekend, and REALLY liked it a lot. Worth a play, even despite some clunkiness. Probably my GOTY.

RE2 was decent. It looked great, and felt updated enough to not feel like a 20 year old game.

Sekiro wore me out about halfway through. Just not my type of game, although I was able to complete Bloodborne (not the same, I know, but just wanted to point that out).

And I know it’s most likely not GOTY material, but Bloodstained was very solid and enjoyable for the entire runtime. Just my off-topic two cents there.
 
Cinemark theaters are doing a "deal" where you can see the game awards in select Cinemark theaters for $20. They are going to (supposedly) have bingo games and you can win prizes. You also get to see a screening of the new Jumanji movie. They are also giving out "exclusive swag", and they will have discounted food and drinks. The event starts at 2:45pm the day of the awards, and goes until whenever the awards are over. My local theater in Sacramento that is doing it has sold zero tickets so far. Which is not surprising, as you can watch this awards show online for free. It's basically paying extra money to see the new Jumanji a little early.

Yes, and No. The bundle with the five games is a brand new bundle. The bundle that comes with the move controllers is slightly older. But, still the version 2.0 of the headset. The move controllers are identical to the PS3 controllers from what I can tell, and it slightly hinders the VR. So, I hope the PS5 version of VR gets new controllers. You can also play most VR games with a normal DualShock 4, so they aren't necessary, though they do make most games slightly more immersive.

. Thanks for the info! I guess if there hasn’t been an update to the move controllers I can use the ones from the PS3 and skip the expensive bundle, or just use dual shocks instead. I wanted Blood & Truth, but I’ll just grab that down the road.

Glad that I could help. I was thinking of getting the one with the five games, as that seems like a great deal, and I already own a lot of games with VR mode like No Man's Sky. So, I'm kind of overdue to buy it.

 
I enjoyed RE2, Sekiro, Smash, Links Awakening, Borderlands 3, Modern Warfare, etc and currently enjoying Death Stranding and Astral Chain.

With that said, my current GOTY is actually No Man's Sky Beyond VR...i know lol

Out of everything that I have played this year nothing has wowed or intrigued me remotely as much as the VR version of this game.

It is just so cool and feels so different than the flat screen experience regardless of its low resolution.

As an aside, I personally do not prefer Sekiro (though I enjoyed it for what it was) to any of the other soulsborne games which I adore (yes even DS 2) ... I need a more diverse set of weapons/builds to motivate me to play mutliple ng playthroughs (ng+ never really appealed to me)

I hope for a new soulsborne game for the PS5 with a new setting, characters, and weapons/builds. (in the meantime, a Demons Souls Remaster would be pretty swell)

Move controllers are a must for No Man's Sky VR imo

My Shenmue III stream is now live (link).

Edit: Uploading the archive now, but I'm liking it a lot so far. It has a lot of the hallmarks of the original with gacha machines in this first village to spend your money on and some carnival-style games to play for prizes along with kung fu training, side jobs to earn money, and more with this new game that looks a lot better and plays like a modern game now. It seems like there's very little jank to it so far outside of just figuring out where you need to go since the map isn't like a normal open world map.

I can't imagine many people are buying Shenmue right now, when it's going to be $35 next week. I already have mine because I backed it. (Paid extra for my name in the credits.)
 
So am I going all the way back to the NES, Other than those 2 Worse Than Death and Interfectorem are the other 2019 releases I've bought and finished so I guess my scope is small.

I really, really wanted to try and get into it and even picked up The Story So Far package shortly before 3 came out. I had played some of earlier KH games, and had a friend who likes similar games sing the praise of the KH series. But, that was before 3 came out, even he wasn't a fan - although he is hoping the DLC is good. My sons did enjoy the Disney stuff early in the game though, especially the Toy Story part - but they really like Toy Story, and have shown no real desire at trying the game.

I believe the issue for KH fans was 3 was too easy and you basically coasted through the story, which wasn't all that great, definitely not good enough to make up for the gameplay deficiencies.

KH3 was fun for sure, but the story wasn't as great as it could/should have been, especially toward the end. The difficulty could be fixed by playing in a higher level.

I had an absolute blast playing Kingdom Hearts III platinum and all. It didn't even make it to my personal top 5 of the year. There was just so many great games that came out this year.

To be fair they spent the better part of nearly 2 decades on 3 so it was never going to be good enough. The whole it not even wrapping up the story part though is probably what eats most people. But they had already announced they intended to make 3 more games before 3 had even released so you know they are gonna milk that long since dry cow. Other issues being that they love to make spin off side games few people want to play and thus far haven't consolidated the series to one platform.

basically the series is a big mess that started off as an ff disney cross over and now it's mostly disney.

 
RE2 is $19.79 on Xbox Live. Hopefully the Sony sale starting soon will be the same price. I'd much rather pay an extra few dollars and have it digitally rather than go out on BF.

There's a YouTube video saying that the PSN Black Friday sale started today. Is that true, or was the video clickbait? I can't check the store because I'm at work.
