Super Mario 3D All Stars (Physical) up for preorder

The idea that nintendo needs a game to move the switch is ridiculous. They already can’t keep them on the shelves.

It’s funny though I got my copy from Walmart and i still haven’t played it. Nintendo is the king of fomo.

I don't think you can look at recent Switch sales and say that the big sales will continue. We all know Nintendo benefited from having the right sort of game (Animal Crossing) during the start of a pandemic where millions of adults and kids had to stay home and many suddenly had loads of free time. The Switch happened to be the right console at that right time.

Now that we're months in and getting used to this new normal, with a powerful generation of consoles around the corner, those Switches are going to look a whole lot worse by comparison. Frankly, MS pricing its Series S at $299 is IMHO as much an attack at Nintendo as it is PlayStation. Add the low dollar payment plans with Game Pass and Switch is looking less and less attractive.

I'm not saying Nintendo is in any crisis, nor am I suggesting Switch sales will be bad, but those who think Nintendo must be invulnerable clearly have already forgotten how utterly and completely irrelevant Nintendo was just one short generation ago.

When people buy systems, I'm talking the average person, they aren't looking at spec comparisons and processing power. They look for games they want to play. Those that want to buy a system to play Nintendo games could care less that there's a $300 option for the next xbox. Same for those that love handheld gaming, the xbox is a pointless purchase as it's not a handheld.

The switch was selling out before the pandemic. It's been selling out regularly since it launched. With the holidays coming up it'll continue selling out just fine. It's amazing during a time with the highest unemployment and the general public being the most financially stressed, that it's managed to sell so amazingly well. It's defied all the odds with 3rd party ports being higher priced and then selling best on Switch. Same for indies selling more copies on switch than other platforms.

The switch kind of exists in it's own market outside of Microsoft, Sony, and the PC. It's the only handheld system on the market now, the only hybrid console, and is doing so well in Japan it's already well past the PS4 (including all variations).

IF anything we've seen these last two generations, it's that nothing is certain and a new console doesn't mean success. One thing for sure is, no console release has ever disrupted the sales of a Nintendo handheld.

The switch has about 10 unit movers already. They don’t need AAA exclusives because of their Mario franchise. All of it. And as more kids get it, more kids want it. They don’t need to release anything to compete with ps5 and xosx.

It’s like buying a convertible vs a pickup truck. You have some overlap in target audience but not that much. Nintendo is happy to see ps5 and Xbox duel for biggest fucking HP and payload. They’re like “hey we have this fun little convertible. It’s always out of stock and the kids love it.”

so.. look back at history of Nintendo Switch sales.

15.5 million first year.

just about 12 million since February this year when the BS started.

the sales THIS year are just a little lower than it's first year sales.. (granted the year is not over yet)

They sold over 20 million in the Switch's 2nd year, and almost another 20 million the 3rd year.. Look at the spike during Christmas season of both 2018 and 2019 (October to December) both had 10 million units sell. You think Nintendo may have had their stock a little depleted? Yes Animal Crossing sold a ton of units, but the majority of units were sold PRIOR to the release. The media attention to the Switch sales this year have been focusing on people who DID NOT own a switch.

Huge spikes of around 10 million during Christmas, slows down to about 3 million sales in the first 3 months of the next year.

I do see Nintendo selling near 22-23+ million this year.... Which is only 2-3 million (give or take) more than EACH of the last 2 years... 2020 will see record sales, but only a few million over the previous 2 years.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/687059/nintendo-switch-unit-sales-worldwide/

Nintendo was probably not expecting to sell that many this year and has been playing catch-up all year. (or like I said earlier, they were depleted from last years huge spike to start the year) Same as MS and Sony, it's the end of their cycle and they are just not making the number of units they did before.

All console sales were affected by COVID-19.  See Ebay several months ago.  To current date even, to a lesser degree, in some cases.

I guess the big takeaway is that Nintendo can't keep Switch consoles on the shelves.  It's hard to outperform prior years when there aren't even enough to go around.  Switches (new) sell out shortly after they go for sale.

As memtioned in the post above, Switch production got boosted.  Sales on alot of games and systems for all parties got jacked this year.  Year-to-year evaluations are utterly pointless.

It’s been a week, and my pins are still listed as processing, not yet shipped.
I don't know if this is the same type of case, but my Xenoblade Chronicles phone ring was never updated as shipped and it arrived today (roughly three weeks after purchase). I guess just keep an eye out in the mail.

Credit for struggling thru a cluttered mess of a menu to do one Mario Kart iOS race looks to have been given for anyone that cares!

6/6! Time to post to Facebook!  :D/

I got credit and didn’t even fully load the game. Didn’t matter though as you only needed to complete 5 of 6 missions.

Better than my status which is in ' fuck you for pre-ordering' status.

Mine says... PICKED! :speaktothehand:

My store now has 75 copies after a restock yesterday. Every store around me now has 25-100.
All my walmarts finally got them as well. No new bonus stickers... I even asked!

This definitely wasn’t limited by any means. Returned a backup copy and debating whether it’s worth keeping my MSRP copy from Target. It’s like the opposite of Divinity Original Sin 2 for Switch, which I waited too long to pick up and now goes for $100+ online 😑

Switch games are really going up in value, especially those AA games like DO:2 and Disaster Report 4.

FWIW Divinity comes with a really nifty manual too. If you're on the fence about paying resell I'd say that's one the few games that deserves it.

The Xenoblade items in stock now as well for those that have spare points and want to save on shipping with the pins

Finished playing sm64, sms, and smg1 for my kids.    They thoroughly enjoyed the mario education!    = )    now waiting for the smg2 announcement

So the odds of the pins coming back in stock are zero right?
Pretty much. I missed them as well.

Reminds me of the 3DS charging dock for their club a while back. If you weren't right on top of it they were gone and Nintendo was just like *shrug*.

They just made a "game" out of offloading the pins they bought to give out at an E3 that didn't happen. It sold a lot of copies of the game, so good for them I guess.

My pins just arrived via USPS today - still says PICKED in my order status. Came with a very detailed invoice!

Also - anyone able to pre-order the Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit from either Amazon or Gamestop in-store or online?

Returned my full price copy to Bestbuy.  Probably would have kept it if they had pins.  But now I'll wait for $40 or bust.  If I miss it, no loss.  So take that Nintendo. :booty:

My store now has 200+ copies and they're not really moving now that it's known that it's hardly a "limited" release.

I'm sure come Christmas those copies will get sold through... unless of course this recession gets a lot worse.
Oh yeah, it'll get worse. A lot worse.

That said, those games will probably sell because during hard times, people desire escape and nostalgia - and Nintendo is great at exploiting both.

I guess it was wasn't so limited edition as we thought. Nintendo fouled us again.
When Nintendo says nothing about something: it ends up being super limited.

When Nintendo says something is super limited: it ends up being super available.

Marketing at a Nintendo level.

Nothing I saw or read made me think it would be hard to come by before March when it went off sale. Quite the opposite actually. I did preorder a copy for myself, but that was only because I was looking forward to playing it and also got a good deal on it using a combo of gcu and a birthday 10% off coupon at Best Buy. I think I’ve already put more time into this collective in the last couple weeks as I have in Odyssey in the year or more I’ve had it.

Can this thread just be closed? lol, it looks as if Nintendo is going to keep pushing up tons of stock for this game, and printing new copies until the date they said it would stop. This was only hard to find on launch day, since then its constantly in stock in store and online.

Edit : just checked gamestops website, walmart, target, best buy, amazon, all in stock ready to ship. This thread is completely useless now.

It's kind of become an all purpose Mario 35th thread though. There will be a lot of activity on Friday with Mario Kart coming out.

Again, there was never really any doubt this was going to be the case for old folks (like me) who've been Nintendo players for some time. There was no way Nintendo was going to allow supply strains for this title during a holiday season where it needs to run against PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. The low-tier Series S model @ $299 now especially has the potential to cut down on Switch sales.

Nintendo's strategy this holiday is typical. They know that competing against the new slick consoles in terms of mindshare and news isn't going to do much, so here they are, relying mostly on ports and past titles to draw in new players. They're holding back bigger releases until next year so they can better dominate the headlines, and presumably launch those alongside a (hopefully much) more powerful Switch 2.0.

I plan on getting a Switch, but next holiday since I want that newer, better powered (and better designed) model.

I never thought this game was going to be limited right away.  Nintendo only said production would stop in March 2021. Until then normal quantities. It is a limited time game (6 months), not a limited quantity game. They are going to make millions of copies of this game.

On the subject of Mario Kart Live Circuit, this is strange how it seems like nowhere other than walmart has preordered them.  It looks like on 9/11 they had preorders and then Luigi one went live last week because I got an email about it.  I didn't order it because I want Mario for my son if I get one, but I've been monitoring all the other sites too and nothing has came up and no emails sent about stock.

Anyone heard anything about these?  Anyone know if Gamestop or any of the B&M stores will have them in store Friday?  I just want to get a Mario one for my son he has no clue about this and is obsessed with Mario right now and will freak out if he sees this thing.

Amazon had them up briefly last week. Costco did preorders as well. Friday all the stores should have them so I expect them to be online then
