• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Yes. Lots of games to play for free, and lots of rewards points to be earned. The other systems don't have that. They also don't let you stream games to your phone like Microsoft does.

But you kids miss out by not having PC's capable of playing the Game Pass for PC version, too.

Probably as many reasons as members. Xbox got me with the nostalgia bug for their BC efforts then set the hook with GamePass.

I was actually following those PS5 BC back to PS1 rumors but when they didn't pan out I wound up committing to the XB platform. I don't have the time or energy to devote to all the platforms and XB is delivering and even seems to be improving to better serve my household needs.

I don't have any social media so this forum being so active in general digital media discussions and news keeps me engaged for information.

It got terrible reviews. However, my teenage son bought it (knowing that) and seemed to enjoy it pretty well. The times I saw him playing it, it seemed fun enough. Go in with low expectations and it probably could be fun.

I hope there’s some replay value, but there should be at least some with the light/dark options similar to Fable. I saw that the campaign can be rushed in ~15 hours with no exploration, side quests, etc. Another review outlet said they were playing “normal” with exploration and side quests, and their current playtime was 65 hours and not complete finished.

Most of the heavy discussion in this thread comes from longtime regulars. Probably 70% of the posts. We do see plenty of new posters adding in, and there are a decent amount of lurkers who rarely post. We're are the start of a new gen so there will always be some uptick in people coming back to any platform, or checking it out for the first time, as long as it isn't the Wii U.

As for why people prefer Xbox over PS or Switch, that's hard to narrow down. Sony has the stronger exclusives and won a lot of people over starting 10 years ago when MS decided focus on Kinect and then tank their new console with a ton of bad decisions and policies. Nintendo has excellent exclusives but their different hardware makes them the kind of outlier.

Xbox's strength for a lot of people is the strength of their support, though I do think they ride the line of what people want kind of loosely sometimes, and we see them appear out of touch with that with stuff like the Xbox One launch or the recent plan to double the price of Gold with no added benefits. But when they are doing things right it's great. All the BC support and new features being way ahead of Sony, Smart Delivery, free cloud saves, GamePass.

On your question about Xbox rewards, while it is a benefit, I'm not sure that's a deciding factor for many people. It great that it's there, but the people maxing out the benefits are a tiny minority. The deals and "gaming the system" type stuff is kind of in the same boat. The XBL thread has a great understand of this stuff as well as the pitfalls (RIP Oman Wars casualties), but unless you are regularly hanging out in discussion places like this I don't think the average XBL user is really feeling that.

Personally I prefer almost everything about Xbox as a platform to how Sony handles stuff. The biggest weakness was the low number of exclusives, and the really limited support from Japanese games. Hopefully both of these will be behind us in another year or two.

I'm not sure how much the "my friends are here" reason held up at this point. The majority of people I played with on 360 jumped to PS4 and will likely stay on PS5.

As for GamePass, I still don't think it's brought in a massive amount of people to the platform, but that it will eventually. The appeal of day one titles will carry a lot more weight when they have a steady flow of exclusives from all the acquisitions.

I must be the only person who has absolutely no idea what Biomutant even is. Never heard of it outside of posts here, so know nothing about who is developing or publishing it, what kind of game it is, release date, anything at all. Haven't seen as much as a screenshot.

Yeah, I know I can look it up if I wanted. Not asking for someone to explain it to me. Just pointing out that there's a lot of discussion in this thread yet I've somehow seen nothing about it outside of CAG.

The biggest reason for this is the game was announced YEARS ago and was mostly quiet for a while and now it's back on the scene.

I got in on the Amazon glitch that had the collectors edition for like $60 so I'm gonna keep it moving. Also super excited since they announced the game. From the gameplay I've seen it looks really cool.

Long rambling response to this.

Most of the heavy discussion in this thread comes from longtime regulars. Probably 70% of the posts. We do see plenty of new posters adding in, and there are a decent amount of lurkers who rarely post.

I'll show you! I'll post every hour on the hour, with blackjack and hookers. In fact, screw the posts.

As for why people prefer Xbox over PS or Switch, that's hard to narrow down. Sony has the stronger exclusives and won a lot of people over starting 10 years ago when MS decided focus on Kinect and then tank their new console with a ton of bad decisions and policies. Nintendo has excellent exclusives but their different hardware makes them the kind of outlier.

Xbox's strength for a lot of people is the strength of their support, though I do think they ride the line of what people want kind of loosely sometimes, and we see them appear out of touch with that with stuff like the Xbox One launch or the recent plan to double the price of Gold with no added benefits. But when they are doing things right it's great. All the BC support and new features being way ahead of Sony, Smart Delivery, free cloud saves, GamePass.

People at the time, and still apparently, love to give Xbox a hard time for Kinect and media playback despite the overwhelming evidence that people want voice control (Alexa) and primarily use Xbox for streaming video. I think it would have gone a lot differently if E3 were scheduled later than other game conferences and they had focused more on gameplay earlier, then later at a more general electronics expo (OG E3) showed off picture in picture, voice command, easy/fast switching between apps, etc. People did use their x360 extensively for Netflix tho, I thought the picture in picture was cool, but I get that reserving a ton of resources for it impacted gameplay and gfx potential.

I think Xbox also made a huge mistake resting on their laurels and assuming any big game would be multiplat, allowing Sony to sweep up a ton of exclusives. Seems like Xbox is on track with studio acquisitions and gamepass to turn things around tho. PC players will laugh the games aren't true exclusives, but I'm glad Xbox doesn't see PC as the competition. They still need to grow Xbox on the PC side. Hopefully the rumors of mod support are true and they start opening up their PC and console ecosystems to modding.

On your question about Xbox rewards, while it is a benefit, I'm not sure that's a deciding factor for many people. It great that it's there, but the people maxing out the benefits are a tiny minority. The deals and "gaming the system" type stuff is kind of in the same boat. The XBL thread has a great understand of this stuff as well as the pitfalls (RIP Oman Wars casualties), but unless you are regularly hanging out in discussion places like this I don't think the average XBL user is really feeling that.

Personally I prefer almost everything about Xbox as a platform to how Sony handles stuff. The biggest weakness was the low number of exclusives, and the really limited support from Japanese games. Hopefully both of these will be behind us in another year or two.

I'm not sure how much the "my friends are here" reason held up at this point. The majority of people I played with on 360 jumped to PS4 and will likely stay on PS5.

As for GamePass, I still don't think it's brought in a massive amount of people to the platform, but that it will eventually. The appeal of day one titles will carry a lot more weight when they have a steady flow of exclusives from all the acquisitions.

Nah I'm in the same boat. It looks like a low budget, furry version of Horizon Zero Dawn to me. If it ends up being fun, awesome... I just don't see it.

You got me interested in the Horizon Zero Dawn part. Loved that ing game. And I feel bad for every developer now having to constantly answer if their game is coming to Game Pass or not.

It's one of those DC animated straight to digital/disc movies so more than likely it'll use the comics as the foundation. Was basically just announced today so may not know more until July when I think it gets a reveal in the extra features of Batman: Long Halloween animated movie.

I must be the only person who does not expect much from Biomutant. Other than the create a character I think the game looks average at best. I have a month of Gamefly for $1 so I guess I will find out if I am wrong or not in a week or so. I was wrong about Maneater so I hope I am wrong about this as well!

This may be an unpopular take, but the early trailers for Biomutant were pretty impressive. Then, when gameplay started coming out after the year+ delay, there was a significant downgrade to the final product. It just doesn’t look as polished to me now that the final product is pretty much here. It could still be really fun, but I’m taking a wait and see approach.

If it looked like those early trailers, I would have kept my discounted CE preorder, but I have a feeling it will end up being an ambitious game from a smaller, non AAA developer that tries to accomplish a lot but does it all in a so-so manner. This is coming from someone who really liked ELEX, even though that game had some severe flaws, so to each their own. I’ll probably grab it at $40 or less unless reviews are mindblowingly positive.

New patch for Stubbs the Zombie that includes a option to remove the green filter. The filter bugged me because of how colorful everything looked when not controlling Stubbs, and while that made narrative sense, it just kinda looks dull while playing. I've made it past the first boss and while its been a bit repetitive so far its been pretty fun. The humor seems to be holding up alright as well. I've been wanting to play this again for a bit so I jumped at the first sale but I think the sweet spot for most of us here will be in the 50-66% sale range.
