I'm really not liking The last of Us part 2. I'm doing my best to play through it because I wanted to beat the game before watching season 2 of the show but my goodness it feels like a chore. The constant time jumps, the forced lesbian love story, the bad decisions of the trans character and the sister. Playing as a character I do not want to play as for a long time. A lot of the stuff just feels so out of place and unorganized. I can't see myself even watching season 2 or enjoying it if I start because I am really really not liking this game. The highlight so far for me has probably been playing the guitar LOL. There is definitely some cool gameplay to be had here but I really don't understand a lot of these decisions the developers made.

Ellie and Dina definitely wasn't forced. It's two people who care deeply about each other trying to keep their relationship together through a traumatic series of events. The characters fit each other well and the relationship makes sense.

Maybe the game isn't for you. I found it to be a very well done story of the lengths people will go to based on the information they have.

Druckmann needed Bruce and Amy to filter out his bad ideas. The gameplay and visuals are among the best in the industry, but the story was straight up trash.

I agree with this. It's not anything specific to Druckmann but I think it could be said of a lot of extremely bright/talented people (not just in gaming but in anything). They have big heads/egos and sometimes need other creatives/bright people to keep them in check.

I thought LoU2 was a great game but it felt like it was too many things: too many characters, tropes, events, themes, etc. but I also kept wanting to keep going. The one thing that did feel like a chore was the very last fight.

I think that final fight was supposed to feel like a chore. It's intentional to add the weight of the moment to the gameplay. TLOU2 was one of the best games i never want to play again because it did a good job of making players feel the impact of the characters' mental states. It was an upsetting game, but that was the point.

Anyone have any input on either Layers of Fear or The Medium? Wes thinking about snagging them on sale but if they aren't worth it, then I won’t bother.

I can only speak for Layers of Fear really, but I can say that I enjoyed it a lot. Then again, I played the original two games and loved those as well. It's not a super long experience - I think it's 10-ish hours to finish. And it is an experience and not super intricate gameplay. Bloober Team does an excellent job at setting mood in horror games (some really great sound design). $15 is a good price for it, you'll get more than your money's worth if horror games are your jam.

Yea I snagged LoF and decided to wait on The Medium to drop a bit more. Thanks for the input man.

Okay now this is just getting ridiculous. Something happened that should have ended all the drama and revenge but it didn't and I'm still playing. Ugh. Why do these characters keep making such dumb decisions?

Like I said a couple months ago, sell your PS and buy an Xbox. I think you’ll be happier.

if game characters didn't make stupid decisions games would be very short. like every silent hill would be people pulling up to silent hill and saying, yep no thank you and turning around and going home.

It’s not just video games…

Why didn’t Isildur destroy the ring when he had the chance? Why did Gandalf trust Saruman?

Why didn’t Peter Quill keep focusing on getting the gauntlet off Thanos?

Why did Maverick fly like a hothead and crash his plane in Top Gun, killing Goose?

You can go on and on… it’s almost like narratively it’s more interesting when characters make mistakes based on letting emotions get the best of them rather than always making the perfect logical decision.

Or you just run everything over with a vehicle. I don't think most stuff could survive that.

Random musing but what if everyone surrounded the mandatory black character in a horror movie and protected them? that'd probably make them all immortal due to the whole black guy dies first rule.

Also use the hot brunette or blonde as a shield since they typically survive.

With the rampant stupidity and absurdity going on outside the world of games right now, you'd be hard pressed to argue some of it, if made into media, would be called the laziest writing.

Or more on topic, there's a dude named Bowser running Nintendo.

Storytelling reflecting the irrational nature of humans in situations they have no reason being in always seems to break immersion, when in reality, dumber crap happens regionally.

This is such a strange timeline where Xbox games are carrying PS5 right now. Gears is gonna sell like hotcakes at $40.

Gears was the first game I saw in HD... played it on a 720p 22" LCD screen and it was INSANE. It was a cool game but I remember if super short, like 6 hours I think? Not sure that's worth $40.

I'm also curious how well historically MS franchises sell on PS.

FH5 was the top seller on PSN for April. I expect Gears and Halo (when it inevitably comes) to see a huge resurgence on PlayStation. They are still 2 of the more recognizeable IP in gaming, unfortunately Xbox has just lost so much marketshare that their IP suffered from a lack of a user base.

Not without multiplayer...

I dot not need to buy a game I have beaten (years ago) to play it on PS5. Nor do i need Halo or Forza for the exact reason. I thought I would play Palworld if/when it came over and that was a "no".

Now if it is a new experience and a steallar game, like Indy, then I am all over it. That game is solid. Currently still in the 2nd area, but really has the vibe dead on (yes Combat is rough...course have yet to fire my gun).

You ain’t see nothing yet. Wait til the great the reset and cash money has no value and they start chipping all of us to be able buy things

Seems to be a remaster of the Xbox One remaster they did of the first game 10 years ago:

They probably should've just done a trilogy collection at this point.

I imagine they will remaster the trilogy, but release them individually for $40, instead of all 3 for $70

Yeah they are gonna milk it. The sheer novelty of Gears on PS5 is going to help it sell. Couple that with former Xbox players who switched over the PS who miss the franchise will buy it as well.

I must have missed that. When it was originally being discussed I had read that it would not have multiplayer

but now I see

Yeah the rumors pretty much got it completely wrong other than the Gears franchise. Just the first game but complete with multiplayer and any dlc that existed for it. No second or third game though which I'm kinda surprised. I assume they'll do 2 and 3 remasters next

Who is this for? I would understand if MS did a Halo 1 remastered to PS5 with all the goodies necause the MP was great, but I never thought that Gears had a compelling multiplayer...I enjoyed the first couple of Gears, but then lost interest.
