Unfortunately, in publicly-traded companies there's a lot of pressure to accept the lowest bid because as they say "the line must go up." Short-term gains over long-term strategy; enshittification is real. It probably helps that they can offload any criticism to LRG - kinda like how musicians can just blame Ticketmaster for high prices.
 
My BS detector registered pretty high with LRG from the start. Immediate vibe of hungry wannabe big guys, riding a wave of support the little guy narrative; to better and more permanently secure their already privileged position, at the expense of the little and middle guy. The expense to everyone in this case being the acceptance of a much shittier physical buying experience, that no one asked for, in the guise of this is necessary to support small Indy titles. Its LRG and Josh’s private game collection that seems to have thrived, not indie developers. The bigger and more successful the wolves posing as shepards become, the more they can drop the facade, is where we unfortunately seem to be at now. Basically the modern American success story since Apple changed the paradigm.
