Where is the weekly ad?
They ended the weekly ad for more rotation of deals. Please check the homepage and deal link for the current deals.

I can't find a trade in value for an item?
It might not be tradable or calling a store to find the value may be the only option.

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Are there trade limits?
Yes, $500 cash minus some electronic trade ins and or $2000 trade credit in a rolling 30 day period.

Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

I’m not the op but I didn’t. I got 9185 pts for the purchase.

So $9. I totally forgot I’d get points.
I got 13,050, but I bought Bravely Default Remaster and some psn credit. I was just asking because when you do a trade in you don't get points on any of the transaction. It was a glitch from a while back where trade ins actually took points away and the way they fixed that was to just make trade in transactions not do anything with points at all. The one thing I don't know is if you get points if you spend above your trade in amount, or if no matter what you don't get points.

I have never gotten points on trade transactions, but paying with trade credit in a separate transaction does give points, it's very silly

Even just $1 in trade negates the whole transaction. Goofed that one up when buying the Spiderman PS5.

Looks like El Hoardo struck GameStop for Black Ops 6 lol. This is really sad to see so many flooded copies now...

I thought this would be OH and I was not wrong! A location literally said he came in and bought all the copies 12+! Every GameStop around was bought out of Black Ops 6. I checked the listing and was not disappointed! Wild to see this mentioned here. Reselling is very common, only in OHIO as the young kids might say.

Also this individual is a local Pokemon reseller as well which isn’t surprising.

Does anyone else have issues with trading in consoles to GameStop? Seems like every location I go to they claim that their system is down. And for "retro" stuff like a Wii, they claim they don't even have a proper way to test it. It is so ridiculous to have to deal with this at every location near me (I am in Charlotte). I'm not even sure why they have consoles listed on the website as trade eligible if they won't even honor their end of the deal.

I had this happen at one location and I came back at a different time when that employee wasn't there and they did it no problem. Some employees are just lazy I think

Yeah mine tried to say my switch lite had stick drift because they went to the calibration screen and said it wasnt in the center of the stick. And wouldnt take a wii remote becuase they couldnt test it. Said i had to drive an hour away

I don't know how this company has stayed afloat for this long.
Gamers willing to trade in consoles to a gaming store, but workers are too lazy to process the trade-in?

They won't be around much longer. Not at the rate they are closing down stores. The Switch 2 launch will buy them some time because it's a smash hit, but I doubt they will be around for the PS6. Maybe as an online retailer and just a few stores located in really big cities.

The thing is people have been saying this for years. Weren't they profitable in 2024?

I believe all their profit in recent quarters is from the interest from the stockpile of cash.

Revenue continues to fall, which makes sense as they close stores, more going towards collectibles (TCG and such), videogame revenue percentage keeps going down:

Main focus now is to sell notes to buy more Bitcoin: https://investor.gamestop.com/news-...lion-of-Convertible-Senior-Notes/default.aspx

News isn't being taken well:

Of course some people will argue the 5 year chart looks great:

Meanwhile...

Most lemonade stands are profitable. Their revenue has been dropping for years and their strategy is to buy bitcoin. They are circling the drain unless they have an original thought.
You forgot the other part of their plan for decreased revenue is to just close stores. I honestly have no idea how people can look at their CEO and say, yeah that’s a guy with a vision for the future. It’s literally just “close stores” and throw all their excess capital into bitcoin, that’s it. That’s what he’s brought to the table.

I mean, say what you will about the abject failure their NFT Marketplace was but at least they were trying something new for the future at that point. Now, it’s just, well how long can we keep this balance sheet looking good.

I have no idea how Reddit can fawn all over him. Seriously, Roaring Kitty did a much more in depth analysis of GameStop and probably knows more about the business than he does. Cohen has done nothing more than get lucky and have more initial capital to invest in GameStop than Roaring Kitty. Almost like a certain other prominent investor that somehow managed to luck his way to being the wealthiest person in the world…

I'm not sure anything can save them. There just aren't enough physical game sales for a business model like theirs that relies on trade ins to be sustained for much longer.

And to be honest I'm starting to see why the majority prefers digital now. At least for older games. Just one example is DMC5 SE is selling for $33 used at GS while the digital version goes on sale for $9.99. It just feels like throwing money in the trash to buy the disc version in situations like this.

The thing is people have been saying this for years.
And they would have been correct if not for the meme stock. GameStop is like a braindead vegetable on life support, still "alive" but only on a technicality

The one thing that surprises me is how they've managed to get away with selling gutted (and sometimes used) games as new for so long. Feels like any country with decent consumer rights would have stamped that out 10+ years ago, and the rapidly dwindling number of physical game buyers would have stopped putting up with it altogether

I'm surprised people still talk about it, since they've done it for over 20 years now.

It is what it is and doesn't impact sales enough to change, while offsetting costs to create and maintain false cases. And it's a easy way to visibly monitor stock.

They should provide open box pricing, but they don't provide variable condition based pricing on used, either.

It's just a known GameStopism at this point.

It is what it is but I genuinely feel sad for people who have oddball cases where they try to make a return on their new game they haven't even played like a day later and gamestop turns around and says no because it's opened.

It's like bitch you sold it to me that way wtf you talking about?

which jersey store?

Damn, I was hoping the trade value for the original PS5 with disc drive would go up after Days of Play ended. It actually went down $20 from $260 to $240.

Funniest headline for this thread.

GameStop CEO Says The Company's Future Isn't In Games

Pack it in, folks. It's Pokemon cards all the way down now!

I suppose the problem is that there is a place for some of the services that Gamestop would provide, but there isn't much profit in them. Hardware sales, trinkets, gaming-related merchandise -- those things are slightly harder to get at regular stores these days, but it's hard to make it the focus of the business.

The complete loss of the last gaming chain would be bad when it came to niche releases and the ability to get specific hardware, but it seems like Gamestop's solutions aren't... great.

I suppose they COULD have turned things around if their brief foray into publishing had gone well...
