FAQ:
  • What is this thread? A massive collection of limited edition games & other attributing items, included with links.
  • Why put it all in one thread? More traffic due to collaborating interests.
  • Why is that important? This keeps the thread popular and doesn't risk a failed CE from falling through the cracks unnoticed.
  • What can be discussed here? Anything relevant to what is posted.
  • Why make another CE compilation? Karma.
  • Where are the big pictures? Still here, scroll down. Due to the increased number of CEs, a preface post is needed.
  • When is the Final Fantasy XVI CE? Not announced. Granted, IF it does, you can bet I will devote an entire page to it.
  • What about other CEs that have been announced? Give me a minute. It takes a bit of time to format the title, price, date, & retailer links in correctly.
  • What about the Book/Steelbook/Console/Misc. Picture Posts? I condensed the thread. Not necessary to include pictures for all those items. They will still be included in the Everything List post.

Not gonna lie, I still want it... But it shows sold out every where which I don't know of true, but I do think preorders went live and sold out quick a while back.
The terrarium still seems kind of cheapish, but much bigger than I thought.

The deluxe with everything else is still cheaper and in stock on FNAC and amazon UK. Both ship to the US.

Unless it's a listing error, I believe the North American version doesn't have a steelbook and the Euro one does. The NA version listing says "metal game case" and notice they didn't show the spine in the display. I wonder if that's purposely done.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. The unboxing video did a good job hiding the spine.

Also, the CE images for the Euro one display it

So dumb the US one doesn't have a steelbook. I really want the European one with the Snake bust but it's so damn expensive to ship.

Link? Didn't realize there was any other version outside of the Deluxe at Amazon.

This one I really want. I did put an order in for the deluxe back when it was put up because I want that steelbook.

GAME in Europe also has it for Xbox and PlayStation. I’ve never gotten anything from there so not sure how shipping is.

Had a lot of fun playing in a couple Final Fantasy Prereleases last weekend. Here is what a $45 prerelease kit that took 1st place looks like. You're honestly hoping to just pull one good mythic or alt art out of those 6 Play packs. My first one was trash and maybe $10 of cards total. Second one I got a Borderless - Knights of Round, and a cool promo Midgar.

I... don't know what that is. LOL These are the ones I got:
Starter Kit
FF Bundle - this is the one that's pictured in my last post, it's also the only one with any type of security seal type thing
FF6 Commander Deck
FF7 Commander Deck
Out of everything you listed, the Bundle is the only one with randomized packs. The others are preconstructed decks of cards; every box is the same. minus the 2-card "collector sampler pack" you get inside the commander decks.

And the pre-cons are almost always a scam for value. The one exception was when LOTR came out and every box had a One Ring in it that immediately valued higher than the purchase price. Such a dumb card and glad they did finally ban it, but goes to show how ridiculous the game has become to push sales. Quit a year or so ago; never again.

Same. Didn't care at first for the diorama or whatever it is, now I kinda do. Got the deluxe pre ordered from Amazon uk but want the CE now. It shows as coming soon at some retailers so I guess they'll be available here and there from time to time especially closer to release.

If it was a full sized figurine I would've pulled the trigger at that price without a doubt. I'd probably get that for that price if it came with the halo jump patch and the id card too

Is it worth getting the collectors packs at a marked up price if I just want some of the foil cards? Since they're sold out at MSRP, a local comic book store has them for $80 each, which is pretty shoddy but about the going rate.

I'm guessing no since it looks like there's hundreds of cards and I really only want some of the FF 6 and 7 main characters, and I doubt I'd get one that I'd want or could sell/trade towards ones I want.

If there are a few specific cards you want it's usually much better to just buy them on their own

Yeah maybe I'll just wait and see... I've been eyeing an Cloud and Sephiroth and they're both near $500. LOL I know some of these TCG can get crazy but maybe I'll just buy card packs here and there and try my luck.

This is like the lottery except you have to deal with scaplers to get tickets vs going into the 7-11.

Unless it has to have surge foil, the cards should be more reasonable (relatively speaking)

I don’t get this hype. A friend told me a week ago that the cards came out early and something is ‘worth’ $2000. What is up people today and cards all about worth? Back in my day we bought TCGs to play. It wasn’t an investment.

Yeah... I don't know about that. I just got back into MtG, haven't really played since HS over 20 years ago... and I had no idea about these collector boosters and all that, I just bought a booster box and a starter pack, so I didn't get very many rare cards, but I digress. Even when I was new to the game everyone knew about the uber rare and powerful cards like Black Lotus etc. Magic cards were one of the first things I've ever bought and sold on ebay, and people were alway hunting for rare and valuable cards to flip or use. I cashed out most of the more expensive cards in my collection decades ago, but yeah... don't act like this is anything new.

It's a complicated question. The short answer is: I expect collector boxes (12 packs) are worth only ~$400 on average if you are opening them. You are very likely to pull about ~$250 in cards.
The price per CE pack opened should not be any more than $45. Paying actual market rate, and opening boxes at their current $800 value is 200% a losing proposition. The actual money is in holding the sealed product itself, which if you were to do, you would want an entire (new & sealed) collector box itself, which should reach $1000+ in valuation shortly.

It's gambling. end of story. Cracking the expensive packs is for degenerates. I opened 3 collector packs and got completely hosed. other people got great pulls. Regulars at my LGS are buying "1 pack per day limit" for $60 regularly at my store, nonstop. While the employees crack packs at cost. Mass box openers and people getting at wholesale are the only ones that truly come out ahead. You can't win, when they are paying like ~$27-30/pack.

The "Just buy singles" tired cliche almost always holds true. yes, you are honestly better off buying the $100 or $200 price tags on various chase foils if that is what you truly want. It is also a very bad time to be buying both sealed product and singles prices.

  1. Just buy singles.
  2. Don't pay over MSRP for anything (normal Target or Amazon prices) which was $45/pack for collectors. $70 per commander deck.
  3. If you just want some FF characters and cards, to play games, or to player-collect then you should be looking for Play booster boxes ~$135
  4. Use TCGplayer.com for valuation. lowest verified seller available are market rates stores generally abide by. It is the barometer.

Thanks for the breakdown and given I just want the cards for collecting purposes, sure sounds like I'm better off buying singles but given the current prices, I'm think I'd rather just open what I have and call it a day. I thought game collecting was an expensive hobby... yeesh.

Absolutely and if you actually want to get into cracking packs for the hobby, stick to Modern Horizons. Those actually hold value for cards with nearly every pull and before I quit again I had cracked entire boxes of MH2 and made hundreds on an inflated hype craze. I also got insanely lucky pulls 3x Force of Negation that were selling for over $200; two from the same pack. All of them sold so I came out ahead.

These universes beyond tie-ins are usually garbage for value just one week after release, so give this one a month and pay way less. The only exception again was The One Ring that was beyond broken and fit in any degenerate deck at the time. Plus the celeb nonsense of chasing the serialized #001 ring inflated hype was a one-time thing. Don't get got.
