    Does PS2 really look that bad on an HD set?

    Its all based on preference. No matter what you're using a 480 pixel sized image and stretching it to a larger scale (size speaking). (think of blowing up a 4x6 picture to 8x10). The bigger the stretch the more jagged edges appear to be present. and yes progressive scan may help this problem...
