The Ultimate 'Build-A-PC' Thread. Complete With Pricings & Recommendations (06/06/10)

Any suggestions for decent free anti-virus/spyware/etc programs? I've used AVG free for years and it seems to do the job for me, but I'm curious if there's anything else out there that may be better.

Alright, thanks for the help guys. We've bought the parts, If any problems arise I'll be sure to post it here. We're planning on going with the Windows 7 RC1 for the PC, knowing that it will expire sometime next year. Let me know if that's not a good idea for any other reason than that.

So rpm is how fast it can write things to the HDD, right? I understand how that's better, but I'm curious of instances where it would be better for gaming. Other than when a game is being mostly streamed off the internet and it needs to temporarily save textures and stuff.

If there's anyone who's got enough time to try and help me through this on AIM (or any other IM service) send me a PM. And what are the best ways to get legit cheap copies of Windows?

It was suggested to us to get a DDR3 motherboard, would either of these be better than what you suggested? If so, which one. Or is there something better for about the same cost. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131366...

Thanks for the reply. Alright, so the only significant advantage to that motherboard would be make adding more ram and harddrives, correct And should we probably go Vista or XP with this machine? We're likely to play an assortment of new/old (last 3-5 years I'd say) games, and I'm just...

Hi, trying to help a friend who wants to put together a gaming PC under a budget. We were considering going with this build in the OP: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=10287205 I'm curious of a few things: Is there anything in general that should be known...

    Wombat on the Joystiq podcast

I listened to the Joystiq podcast once before, and only even considered giving this a listen because Wombat is awesome. It was kinda lacking in the Wombat department, but that wasn't really your fault. Also, shame about the quality of your Skype recording. That said, I can't understand how...

    CAGcast #132: Mediocrely Average

Wombat, I normally see you as extremely level-headed and reasonable, but this "average" issue of your's is weird to me. It's not that I don't understand where you are coming from, it's just that the whole principle is too grounded in semantics. (Which seems very unlike you) I'm sure you're...

The Wii Obscure Facts and FAQ (Version 2.0) *NOW LIVE*

I'm not sure if the FAQ on the first page is still being updated, but I think I found out something new about making Miis Favorites. From what I can tell making a Mii a favorite sets their priority higher when you have to select a Mii in games. So if you have a bunch of Miis the favorites will...

The Wii Obscure Facts and FAQ (Version 2.0) *NOW LIVE*

Thanks a bunch, you guys, helped a lot there. In the mess of all those pointless Mii questions, I actually came up with a practical one... Say (for whatever reason) I wish to move all my Mii Data from one Wii to another (old Wii is breaking down, etc, etc) Is there any way to do that and...

The Wii Obscure Facts and FAQ (Version 2.0) *NOW LIVE*

Future Wii owner here with a few questions I'd rather get out of the way beforehand (These questions are really stupid, just so you know in advance): -Is the data associated with the Miis in specific games ONLY tied to the Mii and not the game profile. For example, deleating a WarioWare file...

want to move/copy Animal Crossing save

Does anyone have a good memory of what games do this, so I can be aware in the future to not put on a bad memory card, etc? The only ones I've heard do this so far are: AC Any Pokemon game F-Zero (since it was mentioned here.) I forget if some games allow you to move but not copy, does that...

    Official GameCube Repair Thread

If I were to just send my GCN to Nintendo for repair due to a dead lazer, would they just tighten the lazer on the GCN- or would they actually replace it with a new one? I'm willing to go through with that for a new lazer in the system, but not for a no-effort job. Thanks.

How much would these fetch for?

Like I said, from my experiences, they avoid telling me unless I were to bring it in.

How much would these fetch for?

To fix it and resell it? For parts? I seriously have no idea which is why I'm asking. I for one am not interested in having a broken Gamecube I don't plan on using around the house.

How much would these fetch for?

Thanks, that's really useful. I'm assuming with rates like these my broken controller is probably worthless. Any idea what I can get with a gamecube that dosen't read discs?

How much would these fetch for?

Everytime I try asking for an estimate of how much they'd buy back used things at EBGames, Gamestop, other places, I always get this "We'd have to see the condition first" stuff and it seems to me like it's against policy for them to say anything about it. Seeing as I have no expereince selling...
