Figured with it being October and the one month most channels pull out all their horror flicks whats your one movie you have to see every year ?

for me its Dawn of the Dead
followed closely by Night of the Demons.

So far I'm satisfied with the lack of remakes in this thread.

Also, Susperia.

Edit: Well, the Ring, but that's one of the three remakes in history I don't hate. Plus you get to look at Naomi Watts for two hours.

Double edit: I am a snob.

Trick 'R' Treat (someone please post a good deal for the blu-ray) is now tradition. That movie's 50 kinds of awesome

Let the Right One In

several of the zombie variety...but I typically try to participate in the DVDTalk watch as many horror films as you can thread/competition/discussion (one of the things that brings me to DVDtalk since I don't go there nearly as often), so I watch a lot of new horror films that I haven't seen/wouldn't have normally gone to see.

I'm in the same boat, The Ring is one of the very few remakes I can respect. And, as you've mentioned, Naomi Watts. Yum.

As for me, it's Jacob's Ladder.
Not a movie per se, but there's a series on youtube entitled Marble Hornets. Here's the intro explaining the backstory. It's really well-made and genuinely freaked me out more than any other bullshit 1st-person horror flick.

Thanks for posting that, started to watch it and it looks very interesting.

As for movies, I watch The Thing every year around this time.

Let The Right One In is $15 on BD @ Amazon FYI. I saw the remake first yesterday and it was so delightfully dark I'm not sure if I'd reject the original or not lol. The child actors were chilling in their performances and just perfect for their parts.

Probably gonna watch Inside (À l'intérieur) again this year. I haven't seen it since it first came out. One movie that is genuinely creepy, haven't had many of those recently.

probably gonna see sometime this month just for the hell of it...
Dance of the Dead
Evil Dead
House of the Devil
Hatchet
Trick r Treat
Halloween(1978)
Braindead (Dead Alive)
Night of the Demons(1988) **remake should be coming out soon
Not a horror flick per say but "Shaun of the Dead".
shaun counts in my book nothing wrong with horror comedy like that and the evil dead series and dead alive or the cemetery man.

I'm watching Beetlejuice right now, it totally fits the season. Trick 'r Treat is also a great one, along with any of the Nightmare On Elm Street movies (especially the first one).

If you can deal with silent films, I strongly recommend Nosferatu. It does a good job of getting under your skin, a trait most modern horror movies fail miserably at.
Evil Dead 2
Night Of The Living Dead (Original)
Dawn Of The Dead (Original)
The Amityville Horror (Original)
Excellent choices :applause:

Not one person posted The Shining yet? For shame!

I fell asleep twice during that movie

I can't wait to do Grindhouse this Halloween.

Thanks for sharing. I just now finished watching the whole series of videos, couldn't stop watching and now I hope the next one is up soon. :p

Definitely creeped me the hell out. They're doing an excellent job with what they have to use.

Ah, thanks for the info! I'm a sucker for things like this.

Quiet shows can do that. I used to watch Ghost Hunters like crazy (yes, even after realizing it's all 50% bullshit). It was because the show had such low audio, resembling a conversation in another room or something like that. I now use that show when i need to fall asleep for work. If you're mildly tired, it'll put you out like a light.

I'm pumped for Grindhouse too. I jumped on that $13 sale on Amazon a while back. I'm just hoping the "scene missing" stuff will be filled in, making it an ultimate cut of the movie. Those scenes were initially removed just to cut the running time, so I hope they put it back in for home video.

Trick r Treat is great.

Whoever mentioned Dance of the Dead, it was entertaining. Not the best but I wasn't bored watching it. Definitely wanna check out that House movie after watching that awesome trailer.

Planning on watching Monster Squad over the next few days. Definitely not horror, but monster themed and tons of nostalgia.
No love for Phantasm?
I just watched that one today and I was extremely disappointed. The plot is all over the place and damn near incoherent.

You heard wrong. The first scene missing was always meant to be there. The second, they only added back in when they released it separately overseas. The idea behind both of them come from actual grindhouse experiences. I remember reading that the first one was inspired by Tarantino seeing a movie that was missing a reel. The second one was inspired by projectionists who would steal the sex scenes out of reels.

We are getting the exact version that was shown in American theaters.

I also got in on the $13 sale a few months ago. That Blu-Ray should be amazing.

i love that series although the last 2 were kinda shitty. the tall man was a badass motherfucker and one of the creepiest villans ever right up there with G.M Dark ( from something wicked this way comes).

id love to see both of those films remade.

Okay that makes sense. I at least hope they have the scenes as extras or something like that. I guess I could always just get the standalone movies from a bargain bin. They should be dirt cheap by now.
$8 good enough?

Thank you! Now I just have to get back to the states in a week and order it. Hopefully it'll arrive in time for Halloween. I rented it last year through Netflix and it was awesome, though I was bummed out by the lack of extras on the dvd edition. It's the only reason I'm getting the Blu Ray is because I was so impressed by the film, how it was made and for its budget.
Not a horror flick per say but "Shaun of the Dead".
There's a good one.

I don't know if it is going to be a must watch, but Splice comes out on DVD this Tuesday, and I've heard good things. I wanted to see it in the theater but never made it and eventually forgot about it, that is until I saw it in a Target ad.
Here are 2 foreign (Spanish) horror films I enjoyed:
The Orphanage
[REC]
FYI, REC did make a stateside appearance as Quarantine. I only saw the original, so I can't really compare.

the foreign version is way better. rec2 was cool too.
It.

I watched Trick R Treat last year & it was one of the dumbest movies i've ever seen imo...
That's sad. I think a lot of the people take it at face value and don't see the meaning behind it.

If you hated Sam, and thought he was dumb, he was meant to be the personified spirit of Halloween punishing people for not sticking to tradition. I love that.

Give it another go.

It is a classic and pretty damn scary considering it was a made for tv movie. just finished watching silver bullet the other day and damn that werewolf looked horrible but that story is amaziing. puts me in the mood to watch howling 1&2.

I probably didnt understand it, you're right. Probably because I never really cared for Halloween for 2 reasons. 1, I get scared every day by the slightest things because i'm very jumpy & my nerves are shot to hell. 2, Any time I want candy, I go buy it.
