Dayum. Thats a good deal on the LOTR for people who missed the family video deal. You'd get individual blu ray cases from amazon, which is even better that the trilogy set in my opinion.

Too bad they're crap transfers of lame theatrical versions. Not worth a dime IMO. There's a reason why they're so cheap.

oh good grief. the transfers are great. the 1st one has some DNR and is a tad softer than wanted but still blows the DVD out of the water. and as for the theatrical vs. extended. there are a LOT of people (myself included) who think that the extended cuts are bloated and WORSE than the theatricals by far

I prefer the extended cuts, but $24 for the theatrical versions is just a great deal. That is what one extended version will end up costing on Blu-Ray. And it can tide you over till the extended ones finally come out.

LMFAO. Since when does "it's better than DVD" = great when it comes to Blu-ray?

Absolutely pathetic. Of course something 6x the resolution of DVD is going to look "better" than DVD even if it is totally botched with way too much processing. That still doesn't qualify as great.

YouTube videos look better than DVD these days. I guess YouTube should be the new standard we should all hold Blu-rays to.

Thanks Cuplix,

Picked up Fight Club and Terminator Salvation, was thinking about Showgirls, but I can wait. ;)

Come Friday unless I see super awesome deals, I don't think I'll be buying much of anything...

I just went through about 30 pages of changes on BluRay.com lol. Decided to pick up Princess Bride, all 3 LOTR's, and Waltz With Bashir. FYI, Bashir has NEVER been this low ever, so now is a good time to pick it up if you liked the film.

I wonder if it's worth it to get the LOTR Blu's, or wait for the extended cuts...I already have all 3 book DVD versions with the extended cuts.

no, I was combating the standard "itzz soooooo horriblezzz!!! it's worse than dvdz!!!!" mentality that people get when a movie doesn't look like Avatar.. and I didn't call it GREAT. It's not perfect but it's a pretty solid transfer and not this great mountain that people like to make out of mole hills
I guess you don't read reviews do you?? very few people gave it bad marks.

i picked up all 3 LOTR, all 4 seasons of futurama, and taken

its not even black friday yet and im burning through cash

The "Harry Potter" films 1-6 on sale are the "regular edition"...

Are the extra minutes and special features on the "Ultimate Editions" worth the wait?

For sure there will be a complete box set when all the 8 movies are released, and I don't mind waiting for them all to avoid double dipping in the future.

Holy crap, that is awesome! I read this thread occasionally but I'm never too impressed with the oddball blu-rays that are $9.99. I mean, some of them I might want to watch but probably only once meaning I don't even want to spend $10 on them. Getting the LOTR movies for $7.99 each, though, is incredible. Yeah, I'd prefer the extended cuts but they won't be this cheap for a long time so I figured I'd get these in the mean time. In 5-10 years when the extended cuts are out and then discounted, I'll get them.

I haven't even opened my extended DVD set of ROTK yet (and I bought it when it first came out).

But it has been a long time since I watched these. So long, in fact, that my two younger boys are now old enough to watch them. When I saw them originally in the theater I could only bring my oldest daughter. Now all 4 of us can watch them in HD at home. I just have to get the sound system setup now - but this is some incentive to do that!

Thanks a ton for pointing this out Jodou! I wonder how long these will last. I mean, seriously, that is a great deal. It seems all we get are older movies at the $9.99 price point (and these are just $7.99!).

I'm really tempted on the Harry Potter movies, too, but at $10 each for 6 of them, that is a much bigger chunk of change. On that one, I can probably wait for the complete set...

If you have Blu-Ray, you can get the entire set for $40 tomorrow. First 6 movies I mean. At $5 a pop? Come on....they are basically giving it to you.

The last two movies won't be out until at least 2012, maybe late 2011 (if the plan is to release both parts in 1).

Ha, NP. I thought it was common knowledge that Target was going to have these for $8 each and that Amazon would inevitably PM them, but I guess it's easy to miss deals in the swell. Don't waste your money on HP yet, it will go lower. That and it's been what ~$30 from Amazon.uk forever? Right now it's a ripoff.
Will these $10 Blu-rays be all week?
I want to know this too, as I can't order today, but I do want A Prophet/Vicky Cristina Barcelona/Casino Royale.

I had no idea about either deal.

I guess I should pay more attention. For one thing, I ignored the Target ad completely because it is a madhouse so I had no intention of going there. And second, I was focused on games, not movies. But really, I have way too many games and should be looking at building up the blu-ray collection with these deals.

I would get the HP collection for $40 for sure!

Also, I just found that Time Bandits is $5.99 at Amazon. It seems it isn't a great quality transfer but there probably won't be a better one any time soon. I'm trying to remember if I ever even saw this movie. If I did, it was when it first came out ;).

I'm also trying to decide if I want Princess Bride. I hear about this movie all the time but I've never seen it. I was probably too old to have wanted to see that one when it first came out.

Princess Bride is a must-have, though it's one of my favorite movies. Especially at $9, it's worth a pick-up.

Picked up Batman (1989), Taken, and I Am Legend. If these deals are still live on Thurs-Fri, I'll pick up a couple more. I was hoping The Departed and Watchmen were lower than $7.99 so I could cancel both from that 2 for 1 Walmart sale, but it wasn't worth it.
