I was at best buy yesterday and they have these "Red" magazine laying around for free. It was their premiere issue, its a magazine for ATI graphic cards. Anyways, in the back of the magazine are coupons for $10 off any game over 29.99 along with other coupons for ATI products. It doesnt specify whether you can use it for PC games or console games---so i asked the cashier if i can use it for PS2 games, and he said yes.

check your local bestbuy for RED magazine. I found it in the video game section.
I'll mark the porter ranch ocation off my list then. I'll try and use one later at a different BB (I have 3 of them between me work and house) to pick up some DS games.
Just curious, how long is your commute? 3 BBs?

What is the best way at this point to try to use it on non-PC games? I actually found a few copies of Red at Porter Ranch today, but figured using it there would be bad.... I'm going to try at a different BB, but I am worried that A> if I use the full sheet to 'prove' it's legit, they'll notice it mentions PC games at the top, but B> if I just cut the coupon itself out, they'll argue it's fake.

Anyone who's successfully used it have any comments? I'd like to try to pick up Advance Wars or some other slightly-overpriced DS game before all the BBs know about it and smack you down...
Im gonna try using this for castlevania on thursday i hope it works. btw if i use a printout should i cut it out or just bring the whole sheet or does it not matter?
It probably looks a little more legit if you cut it out. I'm going to do the same thing on Thursday and grab Castlevania for $25 (though with a legit coupon) but I might end up doing that at Circuit City... do they give you 10% of the difference for that? Cause then that'd take care of tax.

I found copies of the magazine next to the computer on the aisle between music and DVDs -- random!!! Nowhere near video games or anything remotely computer related. This guy was trying to wait on me, so I think I looked shady grabbing 3 copies and walking away quickly. Oh well. I didn't have time to purchase at that store anyway.

I did use the coupon very successfully on katamari this weekend. The clerk overrode the price and apologized profusely that it took so long. No problems with "it's not *over* 29.99" or "it's not a PC game". I did cut out the coupon.
So no matter what it said on the coupon they just pointed to the SKU ID in the computer system which indicated that it was an expired PC-only coupon.
So, has anybody else had this experience???? I was going to be leisurely in using up my stock of coupons...I might need to hurry it up!!
So...any other experiences yesterday or today with BB saying the coupon has passed its expiration date?
I used it today to pick up Lunar: Dragon Song for a mere $20 :)

Cashier gave me grief about it being for games that are "over $29.99", but the moment the manager became involved, everything went fine. Nobody ever mentioned the PC stipulation...

Edit: Just wanted to clarify that the cashier was actually very kind--she's a funny lady whom I've dealt with in the past, but damn! she comments on the smallest details on coupons... ;)

did you use the printout or the real deal?

So do you guys ASK for the managers or do they just come over? I'm only 15 and it looks a little odd for a teenager to be asking for a manager, and plus I'm a little shy when it comes to a line of 20 people watching me angrily when I'mmaking my purchase... I hope this works, I'm going to pick up Lunar: Dragon Song and Castlevania: DoS using it. $45 + tax for 2 DS games is cheap, cheap, cheap! :D I might try to reserve Socom 3 and BF2: MC at my GR too, which brings my birthday list to a total of 7, yes SEVEN games for $155! :D That's roughly $22 per game! :D $22 for Lockdown? $22 for Persona 2? $22 for Castlevania? ME LIKEY! :D

I just printed it out from the image, cut it out, and voila! :) I didn't see any RED magazines in my store, but then again, I didn't even bother to really look for them.

aoLat-- Don't be intimidated! The managers are just people like anybody else, and their job is deal with the weird situations that come up... don't waste your time being concerned about age--people respect you for your maturity level, and that's something that you get to control. I started classes at UVA when I was your age, but never got a single bit of grief during my time there for being so young... if you act mature, people will be even more impressed because of your age :)

Be bold, be cheap, and go get those games ;)

That's because everyone there is a snob and doesn't talk to anyone they don't know.

MOO HOO HA HAAA. The hokie in me can't resist opportunities like this one.

I got Ninja Gaiden: Black at the BB on Touhy Ave. (Niles, IL). At first, the coupon didn't work, but another employee (manager?) came out, read the coupon, exclaimed "That's a strange technicality", and manually entered the price at $19.99. I also tried to use a GGC for the game, but no go.

By the way, the coupon I used was a print-out (no cutting involved).

Don't worry about holding up lines if you are justifying something for yourself. You are a customer just like those 20 other people are and your money is just as good as theirs. As long as you are calm and rational you have every right to ask for a manager and be respected like any other paying customer at any age.

If I need managerial assistance I ask for it. They are there to be the referee sometimes or the ones who can better understand "sticky" situations whereas the clerks are there to get people out as fast as they can without dealing with the special situations.
So...any other experiences yesterday or today with BB saying the coupon has passed its expiration date?
Looking at my receipt, it lists the coupon as "8/28 - $10 Off Any 29.99 PC Game", which struck me as a bit odd. The cashier didn't say anything either time, though.

I used two printout's, and successfully got Painkiller: Black for 19.99 (a nice deal, I was going to buy the expansion anyways for 19.99, I'll gladly take that + full game + extras + plus a dvd for th same price).

The second time I got Rome: Total War for $20, since it was on sale for 29.99. Either time I had no problem with the game being $29.99, or the fact it was a printout, the computer just applied the coupon normally.
So do you guys ASK for the managers or do they just come over?
If the cashier is giving you grief, then absolutely ask for the manager. And don't be afraid asking for one if you need one - it's their job to assist you if they can.

Why does this coupon end 3 days before Quake 4, FEAR, and Age of Empires 3 all come out?

Best Buy planned the end date TOO well, in my opinion =/

Got my $10 off for Ultimate Spider Man this evening. Used the printout and when it scanned, the computer recognized it but wouldn't give the discount - the manager keyed it in and there was no problem though. Good call guys - thanks! :applause: :D

Yeah I really wanted to get FEAR. :bomb:

Yeah, I'll probably end up renting FEAR. A local rental store rents out PC games...so if I rent it... I would have it forever. It's a small store, too, so I'm always the first to get the PC games! :D

I found the mag and tried to use the coupon on a 29.99 ps2 game... the cashier can't get it to work and called a CS person over (manager?).. he said the coupon says any game OVER 29.99.. so a 29.99 don't qualify.... that's fucking retarded... I didn't feel like arguing so I left, gonna try another worsebuy tomorrow

As I posted earlier, the same thing happened to me. I'm curious to know if the people who are using this coupon on $29.99 games are actually seeing it work automatically, or if a manager is having to override it EVERY TIME. If so, this whole thing is gonna be totally YMMV when it comes to using it for the cheaper games.

I was at my local BB last night and couldnt find that magazine anywhere. =(

They did have all their $20 games on sale for 2 for $35 tho. But you could easily get most of those cheaper used off of eb after coupons.

What really caught my eye was the white EA games version of that wireless Logitech PS2 controller, but they wanted $40 for it. A little isopropyl alcohol and I bet that EA logo would come right off...

When I used it the cashier couldnt get it to work right away then a manager came over and typed in the discount manually and I got the discount.

btw I bought ninja gaiden black 29.99 and it work fine.

I got shot down again today at lunch, different cashier, different manager. "Coupon says games OVER $29.99, so we can't honor it on this game." Bah, humbug.

HUZZAH! It worked at my BB! The manager came right over, after the girl cashier said that she had been seeing this a lot lately. As soon as she said that, the, I think, manager came right over and overrode it and I got Lunar: DS for $21.19 after tax! :D I'm using this on Castlevania: DoS later this week! :D By the way this was the BB on 8 Mile and Haggerty in Michigan. I think the manager might have been a CAG because he was so familiar with the coupon. On my receipt it says the 8/28 (expired?) and PC Games Over $29.99. He didn't care. I love Best Buy now! :D

Why oh why must I have the only Best Buy cursed with managers who can read?

Must be the same manager at my stores. Some of those people are pricks.

Hmmm... Lunar: DS is decent...just kind of slow-moving. I like the graphics, characters, and sound, so I'm getting my $21.19 worth.
anyone gotten a printer printout of the couple to work yet?
i got a doctors visit at 950 but im going to take the highway home and swing buy and try it I doubt it but i will try

kick ass they took it without a problem... manager had to come and key it in by hand... got Lunar Dragon song for around 21.78 after tax

now it allows me to free up another spot on my gamefly... Though i doubt i see anything good until the 19th

did you use a black & white printout or color?

black and white cut out. I cut all along the dotted line....

Just used a real coupon (not printout)... worked like a charm. Seemed like a new checker, she called the manager over, he *stared* at the coupon, had her re-scan it, stared some more, and entered the manager override password while staring at the coupon, not seeing the "08/28 PC GAME" on the register screen.

Scored Advance Wars DS for $27.05 after tax. Thanks OP, never would've known to look for this!

(I would feel slightly guilty except during that whole "forged" email coupon fiasco (for $10 off a router, money off RAM and install, etc) I got accused of personally forging the coupon and they made a BIG deal when I tried to use it [I legitimately received a copy via email from BB!]. since then I've been enjoying being the biggest devil customer I can be!)

Went back to my Best Buy and used the coupon again (print out), this time with a different cashier. It failed to load up (obviously), she called over a different manager, and I picked up Castlevania DS for a mere $25 :D

Loving this coupon ;)

Interesting thing happened at BB today. I walked in hoping to get We Love Katamari with the $10 coupon. Also decided picked up FF:Unlimited Boxset for $32 for my bf since he wanted it for his bday. When I was paying I handed her the coupon and a $3 BB Buck from McD's. Of course when the cashier girl scanned the coupon it didn't work. So she got some guy to look... he couldn't get it to work, so he went to talk to the manager. After 10min of waiting, guy came back with manager, punched in some numbers and the total came out to be $44. I thought that total looked a little weird but I didn't say anything. After leaving BB I looked at the receipt. Some how they took off $10 for BOTH the DVD set and the game... BUT the $3 bb buck didn't take anything off. Wasted a bb buck but I'm not about to complain :D

I'll check this friday. If there is the coupon from RED Magazine, I'll pick up RS: Lockdown for $20 and I'll pick up Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for around $25. Yay!

Hasn't Rainbow Six Lockdown gone back up to 49.99? If not, then, I'll be getting one as well.

u guys are wonderful. this helped me out today. got castlevania ds for 25 dollars.

thanks again for the look out y'all. i will always try to look out for u guys too :).
========================================

***FOR THOSE of u that cannot find the book!! it is located in the video card department not in the front door. if u ask the people at the front door they will have no idea what ur talking about. once u get to the vid card section just ask and they'll hand u one.

saved a few more mags for later :)

Just print the coupon and cut it out--it's worked both times for me perfectly like that :)

Edit: Also, I doubt people will have much like finding Trauma Center; my Best Buy NEVER stocks Atlus published games (although there have been one or two exceptions)... I checked for Trauma Center there, but no luck for me :(
