News on the Eva Box Set Delay.

"As many of you probably noticed, we have not yet been able to fill many of the orders for this box set from the recent 12 days of savings.

Just an update that because we sold so many, ADV actually ran out of the physical cartons that are used to assemble the set and had to produce more. We are expecting delivery of these sets sometime late the week of 1/24.

Sorry for the delay".

Back then I bought each DVD individually, and then when the box came out I spent like 10 dollars on the perfect collection box, so officially, I have the perfect collection already. And for 40 bucks, that's an AMAZING deal! But, remember to those purists out there, they re-released NGE DVD's like, what, 3 times now?

And, by the way, any topic with "googley moogley" in the title catches my eye each time. :D

Damn, I paid $80 for that set ... and sold it a month later when the platinum editions started coming out. I'll be eagerly anticipating the next 11 days.

damn, it's so hard to resist at this price, although i already have the whole collection without box and collecting the platinum

Before someone drops $40 for this deal (and a great deal at that) then they really should google for the differences between the original DVD release versus the re-release using the EVA renewal discs. There is a noticeable difference for any video fanatatic or hardcore EVA fan. However, for the average person (especially one who has not seen EVA) then this is a good way to introduce yourself to the series.

I'll try to get comparison shots of Renewal/Platinum versus the original DVD and post them here.

if i want to buy their got anime membership, how will they send out the memebership number? by snail mail only or will they send it via email?
How much better are they and in what respects?
Completely cleaned up video, like night and day. I know the whole "new transfer!" line is used a lot when it comes to dvds but this is one of those times when it counts. The best the show has ever looked. Also for those that have stereo receivers the audio tracks are now 5.1.

Edit: Cancelling an order is usually pretty painless at right stuf, either call or fire off an email.

Here is a little bit taken from the Renewal EVA discs released in Japan. This is what ADV has based their Platinum discs on.

"The other big change is that the entire encode is pure progressive, with no blended frames or choppy, jumpy scene cuts. The whole show stays rock solid in the frame. This means GAINAX either went back to their original cels and backgrounds and reshot the whole show, or went back to the original unspliced film masters, digitally fixed all the frame jitter, and recut the whole show after a video remastering process. Either way, this is a gargantuan task which took a lot of time and money and it shows. Evangelion has never looked this good, unless you watched End of Evangelion in 35mm film in a theater in Japan.

Aside from the new telecine and the removal of frame jitter and jumpy scene cuts, there's also been a huge cleanup of the whole video, as well as a remastering of the color to give the show a much more bright and vivid look. Sometimes looking at the cel on a background can make the show seem like a more recent digital show with it's bright, un-filmlike color tone. Overall it breaths new life into the artwork of the show. While there is still a tiny bit of film noise, it's hardly noticable but it gives the show a more filmy feel as opposed to a pure digital show of the last few years, and I think that's a good thing. It's an amazing feat making a show like this look this good. The biggest downfall is that since the transfer is so good, in simple dialog scenes the production budget of the show becomes painfully obvious, as some scenes appear to have been animated for 16mm film, and their roughness and lack of sharpness around the character's linework become obvious due to the !
lack of any other defect."

There is also a new 5.1 mix as well. However, buying the Platinum discs with the box will probably set you back at least $120 even if you catch a few discs on sale. So, it it worth another $80 to some people for the differences? To me it is.

Bleh, I wish the side by side comparasions worked on that site. Still, I'm not looking for anything real hardcore. I'd either get the series at this price or not at all because i'm not that interested in it.

I got mine via snail mail with my order.

I hope that they have a Farscape boxed set on sale cheap. ADV also does the Farscape DVD's.

Also, this is intentionally meant to sell out the remaining batch of non-remastered NGE bosed sets. But for 70% of people into anime, the casual anime fan, I don't think they'll notice the difference. Especially at $40 or $36 for Got Anime members.

Then this price is right for you. I think once you start the series that you will really enjoy it. It normally retails for around $100 anyway so this is one hell of a deal.
c'mon Trigun...
*crosses fingers*
Goog god, that would be one of the greatest fucking things ever. I'm gonna be getting this set anyways, but TRIGUN?! Daaaaamn.

:(. I bought the series for my brother as gift about 2 weeks ago for $100, and now this deal comes out of nowhere, do'h!. I also really do hope for Trigun, or Heat Guy J, and some others *crosses fingers*.

I believe Trigun is Pioneer, so that wont happen.
Oh and Heat Guy J is Pioneer too. Neither is ADV.

You can get the first three volumes of Heat Guy J in a 3-pack at Best Buy (B&M) right now for $19.99, if that's something you might be interested in.

So let me ask -- would you guys recommend going with this deal, or just getting the Platinum Editions? I sadly still have the whole collection on VHS and would like to make the conversion. :)

Platinum , if for nothing else then to see the show without that damn jitter.

Arg, right. I didn't read that it was just ADV that had teamed up with rightstuf.

For you, I would go with the Platinum DVDs. There is not as big of a difference between the VHS and original DVD release as there is in the Platinum. Besides the 5.1 and better picture, I think that the last couple episodes of the Platinum collection will have the regular and directors cut.

argh indeed, i too didn't see that part about just ADV teaming up.

..but still.

I just went through ADV's catalogue. I hope for at least some RahXephon, Farscape, or Excel Saga deals. Do they carry any other really good anime's? How's Dai-Guard, Zaion: I wish you were here, Voices of a distant star, and Generator Gawl? Among others.

Thanks for posting the deal Admiral Ackbar! I snagged a copy for a XMas gift. Looking forward to the rest of the special deals. DDD had this set for $101.99 with free shipping. This is one killer deal. Thanks again. :)

If what you wanted doesn't come through, you can always check out eBay for some ADV titles like RahXephon, Noir, or Full Metal Panic. There are a few auctions for brand new sealed copies for cheap. For instance, I found an auction for all 7 volumes of Rah for only $58 shipped.

I think it all depends if you want to pay $120 or $40 on which dvd version you should get.

If money is no object go platinum. Otherwise, get this collection. It's not like the show is unwatchable.

Here are some things that are ADV that may be cheap. This is pure speculation.

Farscape
Gasaraki (They sell this every two or three months for $35. I expect it to be one of the shows on sale. It's a good show, but it's always on clearance.)
Nadesico
Robotech
Excel Saga
Blue Seed
Devil Lady (It's $32 at BB so I expect this may go on sale too)
Hey have a 20% off coupon up there too now, can it be used with the 12days coupon?
No. One coupon per order.

Unfortunately ADv onlly has the rights to robotech. Not Macross. And supposedly those rights, owned by animego, exopiure at the end of the year so they can't sell their macross sets anymore.

Dear god this is awesome. Was gonna get into this series a long time ago but wasn't sure due to the price. If I don't like it, I can always sell it on eBay for a profit.

so what's on sale today?
burn up w its for $7.99 not really a good deal like yesterday
Well granted it's not like an $80 savings. Yet, actually it is a good deal if you liked Burn Up Warrior, the price is quite good, but the product may not be as good as NGE.

For those that really wants to save money, the 12 day sale lasts up til Dec 24. And the free shipping kicks in at $99+, so best to wale til all 12 items are posted before purchasing the items for free shipping.
