Don't give up on this thread, people!

ATV Offroad Fury 3 (PS2) - $14.00

Of course I got this game FREE from Sony. But it's not even worth trading it in to FYE. GameStop gives you $16.00 in store credit, and EB Games gives you $20.00 in store credit. Not to mention, both of these stores have bigger selections than FYE. So, it's off to EB Games I go!

FYE, you're losin' your touch...

Yesterday I went to Coconuts and used my FYE store credit to get a brand new *SEALED* Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball (Xbox) for only $19.99!!!! With my store credit, it was FREE!!!!

After a bit of hunting and gathering, I went to Strawberries with the following:

1080 Snowboarding
Pro Race Driver x2
Room Zoom x2
Malice
ESPN NBA 2k4

Strawberries rejected them ALL. The guy was one of those disk nazis that see a thumbprint or something on the back of a disk and reject it. He almost took Malice, but after some fiddling with the computer, stated that they had too many. I'm thinking he saw the price that it was worth and didn't want to give it up. So I went to an FYE, which was very much out of the way, and got:

26 for 1080
26 for each Room Zoom
24 for NBA 2k4

They would not take Malice or the Pro Race Drivers, stating that they couldn't take games they didn't sell in the stores. Anyone know anything about this?

I found that Malice won't scan in using the barcode, which is the only way about 2/3rds of FYE employees will check it. If they look it up manually in the computer, it comes to $26 (or $27 can't remember). PRD is the same way sometimes, but it depends on the barcode sticker on the case. Never successfully traded that one, however.

I've been successful with Malice. Pro Race Driver they have to look up, and some employees won't do it, so YMMV on that.

Alright, found out myself the hard way:

RE: CV X (PS2) - $4.50
BG&E (PS2) - $8.50

I did get $15 for Haunted Mansion on Xbox and $12 for Home Run King on GC, which I thought was pretty damn good...

$26 Room Zoom (xbox)
$26 Dinotopia (xbox)
$6 Gunvalkyrie (xbox)
$6 World Series Baseball 2k2 (xbox)
$1 Sega GT 2002 (xbox)
$6 NHL 2002 (ps2)
Is 1080 Snowboarding for the N64?
I think they mean 1080 Avalanche for GameCube (which you can get for 9.99 in EB IIRC).

BUMP for a "sticky" reason...

also to relay my front page message.....

as read now on post 1....
Wow.... This thread has clearly been of great importance and value to a lot of people...

I had no idea that it'd see nearly over 35,000 hits by the end of 2004.

I hope this thread continues to live on under its foster parent StriderTurbulence, as he has taken over some time ago....

Just wanted to update here... let eveyone know how proud I was of everyone for making the best of this highly profitable and enjoyable trade-in oppertunity...

I know I have... through 2004 alone, at multiple FYE's, I've gotten DS's, PS2's, amazing Xmas gifts for everyone I know, a gigantic boost to my own library, and even gaming gifts for charity.... THOUSANDS of dollars worth of goodies... for barely $200 after all was said and done... travel and a little time each week my only efforts... BUT I HAVE MY FELLOW CAGers TO THANK FOR LISTING WITH ME!

These trade-in deals have been priceless to me... and I wish that they remain as dear to eveyone else throughout a safe and Happy 2005.

With that said.... Have a peek at Strider Turbulences posts, as well as those of YoshiFan1, they clearly have a handle on the situation.... so read on to the list a few posts below... and look for breaking news in the most recent posts.

Enjoy!
:D
Syphon Filter and Sudeki's prices have lowered..however i'm not sure about Driv3r's. I'm thinking of buying three copies at blockbuster with the buy 2 get 1 free deal. It turns 34 dollars into 75 FYE credit.

Nice post joystickz

With some trade in values dropping I had the thought that maybe with the new year, other prices could drop but today Room Zoom still got $26 and Motor Trend got $27. Both games were rejected at 3 FYE stores so I was happy to get rid of them at a store that would accept them.

PMed ya....

we should talk about somethin'.

How is the trade-in for Mafia and Astro Boy for PS2? I don't want to purchase them and lose a significant amount if I don't like these games. Also The Haunted Mansion for PS2 is still $17 and Room Zoom is $26.

I have a favor to ask of you all. At your local FYE store, can you put all your store credit on a gift card? I have 3 local FYE stores and none of them will allow customers to put their store credit on a gift card (for no given reason). So, if your local FYE store allows this, can you do me a favor and put my store credit on a gift card? I could mail it [my store credit] to you and if you could be so kind to trade it for a gift card at your FYE, then it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Why the change of pace? Well, turns out that FYE's B&M selection is starting to suck (at least over here), and their online selection is 100% better! Need proof? Online has Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (PS2) for goodness' sake! :p

Traded in some games today:

Manhunt - Xbox (DIDNT EVEN WORK): $10

Crash Nitro Kart - Xbox: $7.50

Luigi's Mansion - GC: $8.50

ZooCube - GC: $8.50

Hunter: The Reckoning - GC (I stuffed a bunch of random inserts inside the case cuz I don't have the manual and the asshat didn't even realize it): $7.50

Knights of the Old Republic - Xbox: $7.50

Maybe not real honest, but they fucked me once when I bought a game from them that barely worked (froze, bad glitches, extreme loading times and horrendous disc sounds) and couldn't return it. So.. Payback.

Just as a heads up, EB now has a buy one get one 50% off sale going on used games. Great trade in fodder potential.

$17 trade in credit at FYE
Culdcept-$10 at EB
Haunted Mansion-$13 (less on X-box, like $8)
NFL Blitz Pro $10
NHL Hitz Pro $10
ESPN Basketball 2k4 (ps2) $8
ESPN Hockey 2k4 $8
Maximum Chase $10

These are more common and easier to go ahold of than our $25+ dollar favorites like Go Go Hypergrind and Pro Race Driver.

here we go....
Hi everone,

Well you knew it had to happen sooner or later. How can any store give you $27 for a game like Lotus Extreme Challenge, $26 for Room Zoom and countless other outrageous deals and survive?

Well, they don't. Not for long, anyway.

I recently bought some games for $9 which fetch $20+ at FYE and headed down to my local store to trade them in for obscene amounts of credit (like I diid during the TRU $5 sale...got $575 in store credit from FYE for about $40 in purchases).

Well, the manager at the store tells me they aren't taking trades because the store is CLOSING. All games are 20% off, so I make the most of it and snag Mech Assault 2 for $40.

Then I head down to another FYE about 30 miles away at another mall and....guess what..they've already closed down permanently (was there about 4 weeks earlier and had no clue).

I finally find another FYE subsidiary store (different name, same company) and the manager tells me FYE is CLOSING more than 2/3 of ALL its stores nationwide.

I told him about all my good deals they've given me in the past and, being a gamer, he had a pretty good laugh and couldn't believe how much I scored in credit from the TRU sale. Even acknowledged himself it's probably why they're going under.

Another FYE in the area closed down about four months ago, so these closings were not really unforseen. However, I had absolutely no idea it would be on this large of a scale.

Just wanted to give anyone with outstanding credit at FYE (and I know there are a TON of fellow CAG like me who do) to scoop up what you can FAST while there's still a store near you. Too bad you can't swap the credit for gift cards...that way you'd still have the Web site to order from.

Not sure if the store closings will affect other stores owned by Transworld Entertainment (Coconuts, etc.) since we have none here and the manager wasn't sure, either.

A sad day for all of us CAGs for sure, but I think we all kinda KNEW it was coming given the insane trade-in prices. I mean, WTF, $26 for Room Zoom??? Games I traded in during the TRU sale were still seen sitting on the shelves at insane prices four months after I traded them in.

Hopefully this info gets out to everyone with FYE credit. If you know anyone, pass the word along as a common courtesy.

Really sucks because I was going to use a mass amount of my credit on the PlayStation Portable and some nice games for it when it hits later this year.

Not many big new releases, either, in the next few months so I'm left to pick up whatever old stuff they've got left.
One FYE store near me (Record Town) closed down after Christmas and I thought it was because of....trade ins, but I found out yesterday that their lease expired and the mall didn't want them back.

But damn does this suck...

Edit: I noticed yesterday that the woman doing the trade ins was looking over a list before scanning my games. I think FYE finally caught on and is trying to do something about it.

But when Wing Commander Prophecy, the same game tons of people got for free at TRU the past few weeks is going for $15 (and they sell it new for $14.99) they still have a long way to go.

Unreal II $17 (most people picked this up for under a $1 at TRU)
Sword of Mana $8.50

Immediately after reading that FYE was closing, I literally got out of my seat and went to the mall to shovel more crap down their throats.

Now at our mall, we have two FYE's - the music and dvd store, and adjacent to it, an FYE GAMES store that just opened in November. It is a great place to use all that store credit, and the staff are actually quite knowledgable about videogames, so much so that when I took NBA 2k4 there for the first time, the manager actually noticed the mistake in price and didn't give me the 24 or so dollars it was worth.

Anyhow, I asked the guys there if they were still doing trade ins and if they knew about the closings, and they stated that they were and it was probably a regional thing. Considering that they just opened, I highly doubt they'll close anytime soon.

And good news for everyone who hates hanging onto those receipts - after getting my credit back I asked if I could use the credit to buy a giftcard, and low and behold, they said I could. Hurrah!

My FYE got new computers and their system is down until February. They can't take store credit or give it so I hope the prices stay the same until then.

better hope your FYE isnt planning on closing soon..

Ok. weirdest thing happened. I went to FYE and took my copies of Shadow Ops and Driv3r for trade in. You know. 25 bucks.

So i go up and the girl rings it up..and each title receives exactly $22.19. WTF?

That has to be one of the most random numbers. Is my FYE cutting down on trade in value by a certain percent because they're getting too much?
Dinotopia on GC is only like $8, it's the XBOX version ($5 new at EB) that is worth it.

And...NBA 2k4 on XBOX dropped to $6?! Nooooooo!
^^ haha, I'd say the same but I'm kind of feeling guilty for taking such advantage on that one. Seriously, how dumb do you have to be to set the trade-in value to $4 more than it came out new for?

Yup, that's exectly the amount I got in trade for a game over there a few days ago.

It's like "what crack did you pull that random number out of."

Oh well, at least its only $2 and some change off the $25 original values.

Still pretty damn sweet given what you probably paid for them.

The retail price for ESPN 2k4 was actually $50. Of course FYE, being awesome as they are, still has has new copies of ESPN Basketball 2K4 for $50 right next to the $20 ESPN NBA 2k5. :?:

I thought they were $20, maybe wrong year, I don't know. Don't even look at them unless it's to rape FYE like on this one.

Sudeki $7.50
