Unreal 2 got $14.40 today, I had gotten $18 for it at the same store before so it might be a universal drop
You know I think the guy who I traded with today actually ripped me off, he only gave me 15$ for NCAA 2005, which shows as 20$ on the website. Yesterday he gave me 27$. I think I may call and ask for a quote and see what I'm told.

That's weird,i can confirm a similar situation with me today.
I only got $9 for Astro Boy today but got $18 for the other copies i traded earlier this week.
The same thing happend with my Ncaa march madness 2005 game, i only got $15 for it instead of $20.99

I had this happen with Specs, I went in with Gunparade March the Box set with was 17.50 on the site, and instead they gave me 14.50.

To counter the system buying difficulties, I had no problem buying a PS2 from them using 100% credit.... actually used credit from two or three slips, for further trouble ; )

Maybe stores are giving less for games when they already have more than 1 copy of a game in stock (or more than 2, or whatever set number they have)? The store where I got $14.40 for Unreal already had at least 3 used copies and 1 new copy. If that is true, it will definetly suck since I'm sure most of us buy more than 1 copy of a game that is being bought cheaply for the sole purpose of trading in and this would mean we could only get the maximum amount of credit for 1 (or 2) copies.
As for the gift cards, unfortunately, almost everyone has been unsuccessful in getting credit on a gift card. I have tired at a bunch of stores and never have been successful. It sucks because the website has some stuff that the stores don't sell like PC Software and I hate how those stupid store credit paper slips can fade and get destroyed easily.
I think it's depend on the employee or whoever does your trade-ins. Last week, I had traded in over $100 store credits and I was allowed to put all of my credits on a gift card. Honestly, if I wasn't allowed to put my credits on gift card, I didn't even try to trade in at FYE or anywhere else.

Went to three different fye stores yesterday.

Fye store 1 which gave out cash only (strawberries)
Astro Boy was $14.40 (20% off $18) so I passed.
XIII (ps2) was $7.50

Fye store 2 (another Strawberries)
Astro Boy was $12.00 before I asked for credit and it became $14.40
NCCA MARCH MADNESS 2005 was $16.xx after I asked for credit instead of cash
Virtua Tennis for GBA was $7.50

Fye store 3 (FYE-- which gave out credit only)
Astro Boy was $10
NMM was $15
XIII was $7.50

Just got back from my local FYE and here's how it went down for me :

traded for credit:

Room Zoom - 32.00 (can be had at eb games for 9.99 NEW, sadly my EB only had 1)
Phantasy Star Online - 15.00
Super Monkey Ball 2 - 10.00
Chaos Legion - 10.00
Tenchu - The Stealth Assassins - 9.25
Colin Mc Crae Rally 04 - 9.25

got:

Forza Motorsports - 49.99 (on sale - yeah right)
Mech Assault 2 - 24.99 (not a horrible price)

Finally! FORZA YAY!

Traded in the following today:

Disaster Report: $9.50
Army Men RTS (GC): $26
Drake $9
Transworld Surf (GC): $27
FF: Crystal Chronicles: $22.18
Malice (XB): $27
V-Rally 3 (XB): $27

$146.68 total

I then bought the following:

Bust-a-Move 3000 GC (new, sealed) for $42.99
Star Wars Ep. III DS for $32.99 (a shockingly good price for FYE)
Zoo Keeper DS for $19.99

I couldn't believe a new copy of Bust-A-Move even still existed, so I jumped on it. I don't even own a DS yet (waiting for the EB deal to start on the 12th), but I was going to do the Best Buy deal tomorrow (buy 2 DS games, get $10 gift card) with Star Wars and Zoo Keeper. Problem is, my Best Buy doesn't have Zookeeper. So when I saw the decent price for Star Wars, I just grabbed it and Zoo Keeper and used my store credit.

I'm a noob to the FYE swaps (been doing the trade-ins at EB during the extra $10 deal)... it took me about an hour to read through 26-pages of this thread... I'm still a little unclear on a couple things:

1) I'm assuming the credit at FYE and Wherehouse are NOT interchangeable.

2) I saw nearly everyone (except for maybe 2) posting they bought games. I was thinking about buying a couple DVDs (Seinfeld season 4 & Chappelle Season 2). Does the B&M FYE sell items for the same price as their website and do they offer the same rebate deals ($7 off and $10 off in this particular case) that's listed at fye.com?

I hope they give me get gift card for my swap (easier to manager then the slips, and the option to use it online)....

Gamecrazy price matching might be a good alternate route... I remember the manager telling me about this policy when the "classic" game sale started. GC is definitely less picky then what the rest of the CAGs are reporting about FYE.

sabin--

1) You're correct, credit at FYE and Wherehouse.com are not interchangable; as for Wherehouse and FYE stores, I don't believe it's interchangable, but I've never personally tried.

2) Yes, most of the rebates are available in store.

It'll be some amazing luck if they give you a GC for trade-ins; that's only happened on one or two occasions.
Prices are not always the same, games are consistent but DVD's and CD's are sometimes more in store.

Definitely a cool thing if you can do it, since GC's selection of games is much better than FYE and also they have much better prices for the most part. Of course, highly YMMV on getting it to work. I've tried it at 4 GCs near me and only one would do it. One they called and got the prices from FYE and STILL wouldn't do it. So much for following store policy. So good luck with that, but don't be surprised if they refuse. Usually the excuse is "FYE isn't our competitor" even though they sell the same stuff!

1) i have used both credit slips at each other's B&M store without a problem. In fact I took about 6 FYE slips to wherehouse to get a PSP and they were really cool about it.

I used to ONLY get giftcards with credit from wherehouse until just the other day, and I have been able to sweettalk my way into a couple at FYE. (ask if you can use the credit for online purchase, they say no, ask if a gift card can, they say yes and then try to get them to let you "buy" one with your credit slip)

Gamecrazy rocks, im going again today with a couple print outs... wayy less hassel than dealing with the non-gamers at FYE.

GameCrazy's price matching is yet another scam. I went in with six games today and six wherehouse printouts. At the first the sales kid did not know of such a deal, so he called his manager. So Manager says yup, we price match. I give the games and printouts to the clerk, who looks at the wherehouse price and compares it to his price and tells me, these prices are to high, they are higher than our sell price, I need to call the manager again. OK I say, the rest of the story is obvious, instant back tracking, er... we can only price match sales ads, these printouts are not good enough, and we can not price match above our sell price. So I say, can I speak to the manager. Er.... No, I'm not allowed to hand you the phone.

So I have the DM's info, and I will follow up on Monday. I cannot beleive how dishonest these price match agreements are. My freind at GR told me they too, supposedly price match. I would be interesting to hear any stories on attempts there. NCAA 2005 March Madness 2005 is the best bet, it's 20.19$ on the wherehouse site, and trades in for 12$ at GR.

Traded in Psi-Ops for $7.50, Astroboy for $18; they only offered credit and there was no 30% bonus but hey, $25.50 for nothing is still a great deal.

All you need is the printout from the website?

I might get an Astro Boy tommorrow and take it to GR and let you know how it goes.

Or can you take the games to the FYE and get a printout of the prices?

Traded in two Astro Boys today (2 different stores of course). One was $18 credit ($14.40 default for cash), and the other was a flat $14.40. Oddly enough, both of them put the credit onto a gift card instead of the standard paper slips. Maybe it's just a local trend, but a nice one nonetheless.

When I asked for gift cards instead of slips, I was flat out rejected...

Are our accounts at FYE and Wherehouse linked into the same database?

I traded in Primal (thank you green tag TRU sale) towards Chappelle 2 DVD but was apprehensive about trading in this game again at FYE, especially since there's only one in this area. But I was thinking I could go to Wherehouse if my account is not linked to FYE. Anyone know?

I'm 99% sure there is no link between FYE stores, let alone FYE and Wherehouse. You should have no trouble at all, outside of the usual excuses.

Tried to get a quoted price for 18 from Astro Boy, to get GR to match that...

It figures I get the ONLY employee with a clue there. "I'm sorry sir... there seems to be a mix up with the computer, this game only sells for 19.99 and I think this price is way off... I'll phone the district manager tommorrow".

All I wanted was a quoted price! She told me she couldn't even give me that because I could "use it against them if they lowered the price". This is the FIRST time I've ever traded at FYE... it totally sucks.

You could probably try printing the quote from the web page. wherehouse.com

Add me to the list of people now given lower prices for trade-ins. I basically got 25% less for every game than I used to get and these 2 stores I traded into ONLY give store credit. Oh well. $16.79 for March Madness is still better than $0 :)

So I'm now convinced that the wherehouse staff are adjusting trade prices as they see fit. I traded in Malice (27$) and NCAA 2005 March Madness (20 something). Just Friday I only got 15$ after getting 20$ the day before. This time a different clerk helped me, she was da bomb. Not only did she give me top notch prices, she spent 5 mins, trying to figure out the price on malice, it was under xb-malice (go figure). She topped off my visit by offering to put my credit on a gift card, and also put my other three trips on the same gift card. This is the store on beach, in the OC.

I also made out at an FYE last night, 22 for Wrestling showdown, and 20 for NCAA. I now have 200+ in credit in one short week. The Best Buy 5$ deal is just my best friend.
in everyone's opinion what are the best games to buy then trade in at FYE
How about reading a few pages of this thread? Or checking the first page....
re: Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain

Does this require the outer cardboard that came with the game, for trade in, or would they reject it without it?
They don't need the cardboard. I cut the UPC out from that for the EB Games rebate, and took the game without it to FYE and I don't even think they know or cared about the cardboard since the regular case still has the UPC code for them to scan.
You could probably try printing the quote from the web page. wherehouse.com
I tried this, and took it in to Gamerush... he told they don't accept .com's to match prices, and that I'd have to get a quote from the actual FYE for him to pricematch the trade in value. The manager of BB even called the head office for me to double check, so it wasn't like he was just being an ass.

This is all I was trying to get at FYE, but even then the lady wouldn't give me one since "$18 dollars trade in must be a computer error, you'll have to check back later once it gets figured out".

I traded MGS3 for 18$ and was refused a trade of NCAA 2005 March Madness because they had to many copies (Courtesy of me), I'm up to 190$ in just 5 days. Woot!!!

Just posting my score from about mid last week:

Purchased:
Astroboy - free (bb coupon)
NCAA FB 2005 GC - 5.00 (bb)

Room Zoom - 9.99 (eb... refused employee discount to keep it legit)
Unreal II - 9.99 (same)
BMX XXX - 2.99 (same)

Total expenditures were almost 30$ exactly

Traded in to FYE for:
Astroboy - 18$
NCAA FB 2005 GC - 11$
Room Zoom - 26$
Unreal II -18$
BMX XXX - 7.50$

Bringing the grand total to 80.50$

A profit of JUST over 50$ exactly.

Which I turned around and spent on Clerks X, Clerks animated series, Team America Unrated WS (with a 10$ MIR rebate i sent out too!), Weezer's Make Believe, and about 5 bucks left on my FYE card (and 10$ cash on its way to me lol)

I'm a happy camper. Oh, and the dick manager at my FYE got fired for... well, being a dick I would imagine.

~Stew

I went to another specs and traded in Astro Boy, I got 14.50 in store credit instead of the 18.00 I got previosly. Grannted I got the Astro for free, so no cryin there. Just be wary if you are trading into a Specs.

yesterday i saw astro boy for 18 store credit at www.wherehouse.com. So i was planning on buying some copies from here at cheapassgamer.com to trade them in at a wherehouse store. to make sure the astro boy was still at 18 i went to wherehouse.com and saw it for 7.50 trade in.

http://www.wherehouse.com/search.jsp?category=games&type=keyword&query=astro+boy&sell=true

If i go to trade in games at a wherehouse store in person will I get the same store credit as shown at wherehouse.com?

update: I was looking up astro boy at wherehouse.com and found astro boy sells for 20 new and 30 used.

http://www.wherehouse.com/games/product-detail.jsp?id=2403730

Darn it! I knew I shouldn't have hesitated to it in to Wherehouse (I only traded 1 into FYE and had 2 copies)

doing some more searching, Siren went from $18 to $11

And they are no longer accepting copies of Motor Trend or Room Zoom on the site.

I traded in a copy of Astro Boy at Wherehouse yesterday for $18. But the clerk added the extra 25%. I can only assume that it came up as $14.xx. Just last week when I traded a copy in it netted me $22.xx.

And the sad part about all is that the 2 copies I've traded in there have already been bought. It's an okay game and all but I feel sorry for the people who paid FYE/Wherehouse used prices for them.

Also I actually got a scrathed all to hell Ninja Gaiden and a RE3 with no instructions. For FYE/Wherehouse to be so funny about trade-ins being in immaculate condition I wonder how these fell through the cracks. They both got returned today.

I think it really depends on the manager about condition. At one store I go to, there is one manager who doesn't even take the discs out of the case to inspect the condition, so I could trade in a game that wouldn't even work it is so scratched (I wouldn't do that, I'm just saying hypothetically) and he would accept it. Other managers at the same store really check the discs to make sure there are no scratches.

They listed the rebate twice so the price is showing it as $20 off for a total of negative $0.01 AR. I don't think they will honor it since it is a mistake and I know people had a difficult time getting them to honor the GTA rebate which was misleading

Anyone have any discount codes for wherehouse.com? I have a boatload of credit to spend but I've been waiting for a coupon to crop up after the games16used20 ended...

AHhhh..i found a new copy of Street Racing Syndicate (Xbox) at EB for 9.99 and bought it assuming that I would get 24 dollars..but alas they dropped it to 11. GRRRRRRR

Anybody know what Prince of Persia 2 XB nets? Did the value go down because of the recent price drop?
