I keep hoping Tampa will drop Simms. If they do we should pick him up. People keep calling the sport talk shows here in Kansas City saying they should go after Pennington.

I have been excited to watch the preseason so far, but no games have kept my interest. Now that my favorite team is playing, I'm sure I'll watch the whole thing. Well, I'll be switching back and forth between this and Raw.

As much as I hate to say it...Smith is getting a raw deal...dude isn't Montana/Young but he can play...he just has 0 chance with Nolan at the helm since Nolan hates the dude...

Nolan sucks balls. Field goals on fourth and short on the goal line in a preseason game. Get that weak shit outta here.

I still haven't given up on Smith. I think he will be alright with better blocking and uninjured.

I don't think Smith is good....I said the guy can play...his 2nd year he had 16 TD's and 16 INT's....shit he did that with Antonio Bryant as his #1 receiver...and where is Antonio Bryant you may ask? Outta the coddamn league.

Is he going to be Steve Young? No. Is he going to go to the Pro-Bowl in his career? Probably not. Can he start in the NFL? Yes.

The problem is Smith has 0 pocket presence...which you need to learn to be a QB. You need to learn when to get rid of the ball....and oh yeah run...I mean Smith ran like a 4.7 something in the 40....he can run he just doesn't for some reason.

He also has had McCarthy (Coach of the Packers), Norv (Coach of SD), Hostler (fired) and Martz as his 4 OC's in 4 years....and Smith is still only 23..

I'm not trying to be a Smith apologist because i'm not....but when your HC hates you...you've had 4 OC in 4 years...and the best playmaker you've ever played with is out of the league....? It's hard to try and succeed.

What sickens me is I know Smith will be gone...go to some team like the Vikings/Lions...or some team who needs a QB and he'll excel with a coach who backs him. Nolan was hired about 4 months prior to Smith being drafted and by all accounts Nolan wanted Ronnie Brown or Cadillac Williams..
 
Did anybody see the Chargers vs. Cowboys game on saturday night? Jacob Hester and Darren Sproles looked pretty good. And does LT have some king of speech impediment?

Sproles was the man at Kansas State. That guy is lightning fast but he's so small if he gets hit he's gonna get destroyed.

Rookie Season...obviously he blew ass....
2nd Year....16 TD's and 16 INT's...
3rd year...was injured for practically the whole season and shouldn't have played...

This year should be his....but it won't....I hate O'Sullivan starting...but if Martz can make Kitna a 4,000 yard passer then maybe O'Sullivan too?

You and I disagree on Smith a lot, but I do agree that they should give him one more shot. Me personally, I do not see him succeeding, but I would rather see him at the helm than O'Sullivan. They spent a number 1 pick and all this money, he was hurt last year so let's see what he can do under Martz. Why throw in a guy who is a third string QB on any other team. to start?

I agree on Smith not showing enough to grant being a #1 pick...but the problem is, Nolan obviously has it out for him. Take last year...throws Smith under the bus saying he's not man enough to play even though the dude had a 3rd-Degree separated shoulder...

The end for Smith came when we were 2-1 vs the Steelers...a huge win we could've had, if that Vernon Davis call was made correctly...but we didn't win so be it...but Smith played well enough...but was then injured...

O'Sullivan has been cut by 7 teams in his 6 year career...he is a NFL Europe player at best...i'm not trying to hate on the guy but he couldn't even beat out Orvolosky (sp?) of the Lions...

This franchise won't go anywhere until Nolan is fired...it's sad to say since I was very excited when he was hired...he cleaned house and made it a team atmosphere...getting rid of Kevan Barlow's lazy ass...

But he seems more interested in wearing coddamn suits then managing a football game (which he is horrible at...worst in-game decision maker in the league) and his draft choices have been questionable as well...if you take out Gore/Willis...(jury still out on Smith)...he drafted Brandon Williams in the 3rd round who is cut...David Baas who is barely in the league...

As much as I'd love to bash York...it's not his problem...he's spent the money (Clements, Lewis, Davis, Banta-Cain, J.Smith)...it's been Nolan's coaching which has really messed up this team...

IMO, if Martz was the head coach and Nolan was the defensive coordinator this team would have a lot brighter outlook then it does right now...

The thing about Kitna being a 4K passer was mainly because of his WR's. The 49ers have shit for receivers. Martz can't help them there.

If this team had a DECENT QB...they could pull off a .500 record...
 
The problem is Nolan is playing to save his job, not what is best for the team. Dude's a dumb ass. Going for field goals in preseason games. Get the fuck outta here.
 
Say what you want about Nolan.. he has put together a good solid defense.. the problem is that their opponent puts 8 in the box against your only offensive weapon in Gore. If you had a receiver that would step up as a #1 then maybe Smith wouldn't be in the situation he is in... also Smith had how many OC's in SF, I know it fucked up Kordell in Pittsburgh, so it wouldn't surprise me if it screws him up as well..

Nolan has put together a solid D but when you are a coach you need to put together a solid team. And his decision making on the offensive side is horrible. The Niners are going no where because of there management and QB position.

I wouldn't say he's put together shit on defense....he got lucky drafting Willis and is lucky we got out of cap-hell to sign Clements...

We have a horrible pass-rush.....which means a QB can sit back and just wait for an open-receiver....

You know how many times I sat and watched a QB get 8 seconds or more to pass? Coddamn....

And Alex Smith has had a new OC every year he's played....McCarthy, Turner, Hostler, Martz...which is absolute bullshit...

Smith hasn't had a great training camp...and I get that...he's being forced to learn ANOTHER offense which is apparently very hard to understand (Martz's), working with ANOTHER group of WR's...the only constant is Battle who is a #3/#4 receiver at best...also doesn't help that his best friend just commited suicide..

Yet again by no means am I a Smith 'supporter' or 'backer' whatever you want to call it...but I believe this guy can play and play at a reasonably high level...
 
Just got back from the Lucas Oil Stadium tour. The place is gorgeous. They're not opening the roof or the windows, but I was still in awe how nicely designed it is. Going back in an hour to another tour to take more pics. Can't wait for the first game there.

i'm telling you.. if they can put an offense on the field that could sustain drives and give that defense some time to rest.. your defense will be a ton better..

This is true for any defense. ph33r m3 is right about the Niners not having a good pass rush. This is usally why they can't get off the field on third downs.
 
Favre lookin' sharp on his preseason debut, doin' the hard count, showin' the rocket arm, but the rest of the game was hard to watch >.>

Batted passes, dropped passes, blown coverage, and the failures of #1 and #2 on the Jets on their final drive. Two gimme's and they both blew it big time, at least it was just preseason -_-
