Montreal played another great game last night. Very impressive.

The link below shows a record night. Franzen had 4 goals and 2 assists with a natural hat trick in 3 minutes and 25 seconds. The crowd including myself thought it was number 4 because the first goal of the game was announced as his in the arena and wasn't changed over the loud speaker until late in the 3rd. He got his fourth which everyone in the arena thought was number five in the 3rd period.

I still hold onto a slim hope that my two favorite teams make it to the WCF. Please Wings, become the third team to do it.................
 
The young and hungry Blackhawks are going to the WCF this year. I'm just glad they won't have to play the Red Wings again.

Last night was some of the most shameful display of unsportsmanlike conduct I've ever seen from a hockey team. Canucks were acting like spoiled children. Very embarrassing.

Hawks have played magnificently and I tip my hat to them.

Did you watch the Wings/Sharks the other night? Joe Thornton should have been thrown out of the game.

I couldn't remember if I was watching the NHL game or Friday Night Smackdown. That was a crazy 2nd period, and I am glad the Buff took it all in stride and isn't hurt after that gang beating he got from Vancouver.

Nucks have really lost their cool the last two games, but compared to the crap the Ducks pull when they're down the Nucks are chior boys.

Joel Quenneville must have those dog shock colars on Versteeg & Niemi. Versteeg hasn't been acting like an idiot & Niemi hasn't been letting in the one bad goal per game.

Nah it was more fun to let the crowd torture him. I thought half the crowd was going to jump the boards to kill him when he went after Nick Lidstrom. They threw Clowe out which was smart & Draper who's been invisible anyways.
 
For the time being I'm not embarrassed to be a Sharks fan. Great game!

I'd be a liar if I didn't say this but... Good fucking riddance.
 


That seriously should have been at least 2 minutes to Crankshaft for that elbow...
Barring the Mother Canuckers pulling a Montreal, I'm looking forward to Sharks/Hawks. There's been some epic games with the Hawks this year...should be fun.

redwings had their chances, good series. looking forward to the next round.
 
The Wings got outplayed. Tonight and overall in the series. Both goalies were really good tonight and Marleau made a great shot on the game winner. I think our guys expended so much energy getting into the playoffs then going seven games in round one they were just gassed. Hence the reason they were unable to win close games not just in this series but the entire playoffs.

The probable Sharks/Hawks WCF should be really entertaining. Especially if the refs keep themselves out if the spotlight.

For my guys I appreciate another year of hockey. Everyone thought they were dead halfway through the season, but like true pros they battled back got in and won the opening round. Next year the team will be a bit different, but the expectations will be the same.

Nicklas Lidstrom will decide his future in the next few weeks. No matter what he decides he's already the best defenseman of his generation.

HOF for sure. id be surprised if he doesnt come back for at least one more year.
 
The Red Wings were always dominant when they had a major shitkicker on the team. Probert, then ex-rival Chelios, then McCarty. The Coyotes almost beat them because the Wings don't have a balance between finesse and physical intimidation. I hope Lidstrom comes back.

I hope the Blackhawks win it all. My town's old IHL team was affiliated with them. That's where Ed Belfour came from, and then onto the Blackhawks. So I could easily support the Blackhawks despite the old Red Wings rivalry, so it's not technically an act of treason.

Our biggest problem this year was that we didn't have a consistent goal scorer. Hossa helped us huge last year.


Anyway. I'm hoping Lidstrom will be back, and hopefully cheaper than he was before. Cut Jason Williams, Maybe Draper will be back for cheaper as well...

The Core of our players aren't going anywhere though. Z, D, Franzen, Holmstrom, and a few other guys are locked up for a bit. I'd love to see Bert stay around because he came through a few times throughout the year when we really needed him. It'll be nice to have Hudler back.


But yeah. Free up some cap space to buy a goal scorer, and buy some referees while we're at it.
 
tomorrow is a huge day for the coyotes. if the city doesnt agree to pay for any losses the team generates next year then its looks like its bye bye phoenix. this could open the door to the team moving back to Winnipeg or (more recently rumored for some reason) Milwaukee.

It's a lot to ask a city that is already hemorrhaging money.
 
But where will all the western conference teams get to play golf during the winter? Whatever I wouldn't mind the team moved to a place that lives for hockey. Toronto is garbage and they are still doing well so the NHL should plop the team where even if a team misses playoffs for oh 8 years the fans will keep giving monies.
 
But here is the thing, the Coyotes have averaged a higher attendance than a lot of other teams since 2002; that is if the ESPN attendance figures are accurate. It is only since about 2008 when it began really hitting rock bottom. The main issue here is that the ownership of the Coyotes have made awful business decisions, and have sunk the franchise into a bottomless pit of debt. Of course, the low attendance in recent years doesn't help any.

If the city doesn't agree to fund losses, which considering the economy, I don't think is going to happen... where do the Coyotes realistically go? I know Canadians are foaming at the mouth to snatch them up, but I have to imagine Bettman is going to want to move them to a U.S. city.
 
What about a place like Seattle or Portland? Could Salt Lake City be big enough for another major sport franchise? Perhaps Vermont, New Hapshire, Maine could somehow make something work. I find the idea of moving to Kansas really stupid. Or maybe Hartford could get a team again.

i think salt lake city and seattle are both reasonable choices, not so sure about portland. kansas city is another city thats been thrown around (terrible idea imo), but most people think it will be somewhere in canada, and i think thats the most likely scenario. either way it would have to be a city that is ready to support a team in 6 months.

yup, im going to be surprised if they go for the deal. if not, theres still a chance the coyotes stay, but it goes down drastically.

Aren't the Icelanders always rumored to be moving to Kansas City? I am pretty sure that KC just had a 15000 seat arena just open in the past year.
 
Why is Atlanta still in Atlanta btw? here Kansas have them and support them for the next 5 years while they maybe make the playoffs once or twice. Doubt they will care for a bad franchise as well after the novelty wears off.
 
While as a Canucks fan I've always wanted to see a team land in Seattle (it would make a great rivalry eventually just based on geography plus the Canucks could be moved into the Pacific division where they belong), they just don't have a reasonable arena.

I think Atlanta has 4 years left on their lease (or something like that I don't remember the details) so they can't be moved because of that.

Anyways methinks the Winnipeg Jets are going to be reborn in 2010.

atlanta is one of those bubble teams that will be in limbo in the next few years. they have owners and a lease right now, but as the end to that lease approaches theres a good chance the team could be sold and moved.

seattle has an old arena that they could use temporarily, but i dont know that they could get a team without securing a deal for a new arena to be built in the near future (same reason the sonics left).

vancouver might move to the pacific anyway if phoenix does relocate to winnipeg. put them in the northwest division and put vancouver into the pacific.

It would be interesting to see if the Yotes move way East how the NHL would shake up the divisions.

Something I heard mentioned the other day sounded interesting. The playoff seedings instead of being 1-8 by conference could be 1-16 overall. What do you guys think of that idea?
 
1-16 seeding would be awesome! The NHL also needs a fully interlocking regular season schedule. Those teams in the Northeast Corridor need to just shut the fuck up and stop stonewalling that.

i dunno if i like that, its nice having representatives from each conference. i mean if it was like that this year philly and montreal (one of which could reach the cup this year!) wouldnt have made the playoffs.

agreed. i dont see why they cant work it out so every team plays eachother once at home and once away. there still would be plenty of games for divisional and conference. do one home and away (58 games) 6 divisional home and away (16 including the 8 already counted) and then 8 conference games that are a mix of home and away with the remaining conference teams outside the division.... something like that could work and i think would be more beneficial to the league over all.
 
I don't think I've ever talked to a single hockey fan in 15 years that hasn't said how much they would enjoy a fully interlocking schedule. A small sample size for sure but I bet it is pretty representative of hockey fans everywhere. ;)

I like how GMs keep voting the proposition down, almost universally from the NE Corridor of teams. :whistle2:(

Nobody over here gives two shits about any team out West. They don't draw. They're boring games, rivalries are what make regular season games interesting and you'd lose that.

If anything, I'd want to go back to the old divisional format where you play out of your division in the playoffs.
 
I'm content with the current structure. I disliked the 8 divisional games you had to play against every team in your division a few years back. That was way too much as it got tiresome. I don't necessarily care to have every team visit us once a year but there should not be multiple year absences. What I would oppose greatly is having the top six teams in the conference be in the playoffs and then have 7 through 10 seeds play out for the 7th and 8th spot. That's lame and the regular season should mean something damn it.

well you can do something like the NFL, where you have rotating schedules with divisions from the other conference along with random match ups, at least that way youre assured to see any given team within 2 seasons. as it is now it could be a number of years before you see an eastern team.
 
word on the street is the nhl is making a "contingency" schedule in case the team moves from phoenix with winnipeg as the replacement city. colorado would move to the pacific division and winnipeg would join the northwest (stupid IMO). its hit several news sources the last hour or so.
