Horrible officiating in the Lakers vs Utah game. The fucking defender was on the floor but he fouled Kobe?
When you reach your arm up at the guy you flopped on, yes. Not a smart play.

Nice job by the Lakers in turning a game they should have had in hand into a close one. And kudos to the Jazz for continuing to play their asses off.
I want to see how Shaq reacts IF Cavs face LA and beat them.
NBA and ABC are jerking off to that potential matchup. Kobe vs James. Shaq vs Kobe. Shaq vs Phil.

Shaq vs. his underwear because he's so fat he can't put them on.

I hope the Spurs play the Hawks, so I can hear a summer of everybody bitching about New York, Boston, and LA not making the finals again.

Happy the Hawks pulled it out as a Magic fan living in Atlanta.

Got tickets to game 4 next Monday. Pretty stoked, haven't went to an NBA game in 3 years or so, and have never been to a playoff game in any sport.

My brother was too since he also resides in ATL and loves the magic like I do. :D I wish I could be there to see them live since I was on VACA when they played the bobcats in my town.
Big game today for Bucks fans. I cant wait to see ATL get laid out and their team of choke artists get laid out.
They didn't choke last night
On a serious note, Milwaukee should their true colors last night. Only Brandon Jennings decided to play. John Salmons was ice cold. Missed easy open shots.
the referees tried to hand that game to the Cavs. I'm sick of Lebron not getting called for fouls
Or traveling, for that matter.

perfectly legit non-travel call

Typical Lebron. Every game the dude travels like 30 times and gets called once, if at all. I remember during the playoffs last year I was watching one of the games with my cousin and we counted him travel 17 times in a game, none of which were ever called.

FYI, that wasn't a travel for steps. It should have been for jumping twice though.

The Cavaliers were just bad for large stretches. This was a game they needed LeBron to bail them out of and he couldn't.

The refs helping the opposing team playing the Celtics has happened in 5 games now this post-season. This game was nowhere near as bad as the others. The 2 Cavs games have been lightweight in that respect compared to Miami. This game i just saw a lot of fouls called on the Celtics defending Lebron that weren't fouls, particularly in the 4th. I'm holding out hope for a Celtics-Lakers rematch. Maybe Lebron will get more cortizone shots at halftime.

That clip wasn't a traveling violation by way of steps, it was a potential call by way of a bunny hop. Seriously, Doc? You saw two steps before he hopped? Please don't complain about officiating ever again if you think that's true.

Chris Paul and Baron Davis (well, did, before he lost a step) do that same move fairly frequently, by the way; it's typically not called. Kidd and Iverson did it in their younger years, too.

Traveling in the NBA is holding in the NFL. It literally happens, by strict definition of the rule, on every play. Any further discussion of the topic is pointless.

LeBron's either playing too cute (trying to get his teammates involved in the game), or his elbow is legitimately hurt. If it's the latter, the series will end with a Celtics victory in game 6.

That's called a jump stop, it's no different than if he would have done that move and just not shot the ball and stood there. Not saying LBJ never travels, because my god, it's the NBA, 3 steps is the norm anymore.

I agree with the traveling statement. I can't believe everyone is making a big deal out of this. Every team has at least one player that travels all the time. NBA allows anymore for 3 steps, which is traveling.

Lebron still had Lebron numbers. He just didn't have any help compared to 6 Celts in double figures. With how the Celts played last night, it would be tough for Lebron himself to overcome the lead they built in the third.

Shit, I havent had a discussion about traveling since I was in high school. I dont know what it is about LeBron that makes everyone revert to whiny kids.

I actually missed a decent amount of the game and really just saw the score. But it was a surprise none the less. The C's continue to surprise me because I swear they are on the brink of the crumbling but they continue to win play off games. Kudos C's.

I think it's unfortunate that traveling isn't called more often in the NBA. Hell, most point guards roll their hands under the ball on several dribbles walking it up the court. Let's call that, too. Yes, that Lebron non-call was fine since it was the biggest jump step in the history of basketball. I think the problem people have with Lebron traveling (and to be fair, I've never liked any great player doing it, even back to Jordan) is that the best players get away with the most egregious travels. And Lebron gets some of the best no-calls ever and it's more obvious because he takes such huge strides. But yes, Wade does it, Kobe does it; it's no secret. It makes for some impressive plays, but I'd like to see it tightened up.

As for the fouls, Pierce twice had Lebron up in the air on long jump shots, got some contact (not heavy, granted), and didn't get a call. Had the roles been reversed, Lebron would have been shooting free throws.

Great game yesterday by the Celtics. Hell, anytime Lebron is on the losing side/stick is a good game. I'm very much looking forward to a repeat of the Celtics/Lakers. Now let's go Lakers tonight!

That wasn't a jump stop; it was a streetball move that, when I was playing five times a week, at least, was called a "bunny hop". It's a move that is used to fool the defender(s) into thinking you're jumping up to attempt a floater or a layup/dunk, almost like a jumping pump fake.

Lingo may have been changed from 7-8 years ago.

BSB:

Pierce's attempts at getting foul calls on perimeter jumpers are nearly as embarrassing as Reggie Miller's flails. LeBron actually made pretty solid maneuvers to avoid contact; a player diving into a moving defender in an attempt to draw a shooting foul on the perimeter shouldn't get that call. I've seen LeBron not get a similar call five or six times this season (I'm sure it's happened more frequently than that, as I only watched around 20 Cavs games this season), so he doesn't always get that call, either.

I'm not saying it should be called. The refs, however, have generally decided that if a player gets a defender in the air and then moves into that defender to draw contact, it's a foul on the defender (aside from Reggie-style leg kicks). If that's going to be the case, it needs to be consistent. Either always call it or never call it. Pierce got the contact he was looking for, no matter how well Lebron angled it.

Well the last time Pierce got LeBron in the air he tried to get the foul but only the ball touched LeBron's body. So that was essentially a block. I don't remember any other plays, but that one at least was the right call.

One of the few things that is ruining pro basketball, along with flops.

Great first half for the Magic--up 53-33 on the Hawks.

Hope they keep it up, they've had a proclivity for blowing big leads.

Jeez I saw the score and thought I needed my eyes checked.

And to add to the Lebron discussion. It seems like he never has more than 1-2 fouls at the end of the game. No way should anyone who plays that aggressively for nearly 40 minutes a game have that low amount of fouls called on them

Final score 114-71!

Great way to set the tone for the series. Has to rattle the Hawks confidence, especially since it's the 4th blowout loss to the Magic for them this year.

Hawks looked horrible. Can they be really that fatigued from a Sunday game? They came out strong in the first quarter 25-23 Magic and just got blown out by 20 points a quarter for the rest of the game.

I think the Spurs will even the series at home, but I also think the Suns are going to beat them eventually. Most likely in 6 maybe 7.

Magic are looking dominant as well.
Hawks look 10000 times better tonight. Hawks lead 52-45 with 2 minutes left in the first half.
That was short lived. Josh Smith tired out after 2.5 quarters and the whole Hawks team collapsed while the Magic started hitting shots and started playing their game.
Fourth quarter: 28-15.
Tonight was the best the Hawks can possibly do and it wasn't even close enough come end of game.

I said it to my friends after game 2 of the cavs-celtics, but if mike brown has mo "no d" williams guarding rondo tonight, I'm never watching the cavs as long as he is coaching.

Another good performance by the Magic.

Now go beat the Hawks on Saturday so I can see them go for the sweep in person on Monday!

I hope neither the Magic or the Lakers make the Finals, simply so Cowherd will cry in his oatmeal for three weeks and complain that the NBA is a fringe sport that can't survive without New York or LA winning the title.
Suns vs Magic is my dream finals. Nash needs a ring.
That's what I'm hoping for. I think that matchup would produce the best games. I desperately don't want to see the Lakers in the finals, and I really don't want to watch the Lebron show either.
