I still can't believe he attempted that 3 when he could have just run the clock down.

Neither team has proven anything yet, you have to win on the other court. Unfortunately, the Suns have to do it to advance.

So if the Lakers win the series by only winning home court games they won't have proven anything? I call bullshit ;)

I am pissed as well for the game not going into OT and I could care less about either team.

This game is a huge double edge sword for the Suns. On one hand they come back from being down double digits with several minutes to go in the game and on the road to tie it. That says a lot about their makeup to come back from that adversity. On the other hand the ending has to be a kick in the groin and who knows how they come out on Saturday?

Amare LOL. Guy is 6'10 and had 4 Rebounds in 36 minutes. 4 REBOUNDS! I am going to laugh at the fools who give him a max contract in the off season. It better not be the Knicks.

Don't take this away from me. You know what I'm doing.

If only Nash made those freethrows.

2 misses! When is the last time that happened?

Nash also made a bunch of tough shots down the stretch that make up for the two missed free throws. Couple of those shots he had no right making.

Team as a whole stunk from the free throw line. 20-29. Blame 6'10 Amare who only grabbed 4 rebounds. Couple of Frye's 3 point shoots in the last couple of minutes were stupid in my book.

Get ready, its Scalabrine time tomorrow.

Nash was phenomenal. He gets a full blame shield for this one. Between him and Kobe tonight, we got to watch two great players doing fantastic things. I call that a satisfactory evening.

Absolutely, not to take anything away from Nash for making those ridiculous shots near the end. It's just a bit disheartening, Nash is automatic at the line.

You don't have to tell me about Amare not rebounding, I believe I have mentioned it before that are best rebounders have been Hill/Richardson. :hot:

And yeah, I wasn't ecstatic about those Frye attempts either.

Fo sho.

It's a disappointing loss, but it was hell of a game and the Suns played with heart.
Time to get Bruined?
Its a little scary that Scal is going to be active let alone play significant minutes, but they're still not as banged up as the Bruins were. If Rondo goes down, they'll be in that much trouble.

Could care less about either team? You spent the entire postseason last year shit talking the Lakers and predicting they'd get swept ech time they advanced a round, LOL.

I'll just say what I said on Facebook, about my 2nd favorite Laker who happens to wear my favorite number: IN RON WE TRUST!

Which only makes me that much more nervous every time Rondo is down on the floor.

you have the wrong person. I didn't talk shit about the Lakers and I never predicted them being swept last year.

I have lost pretty much all interest in the nba playoffs this season. Although I wished I had watched that game.

Sick of seeing the lakers and sick of seeing the C's...the magic are getting up there also. Does anyone who lives outside of those cities really give a shit if anyone other than the Suns win? As a person who doesnt have a NBA team so I love the game, I am just really tired of seeing the same 4 or 5 teams every single year. The same storyline, the same ESPN propaganda that boils down to 80% LBJ talk 15% Kobe and then the scandal of the week.

This isnt to take away from those teams they are good but can I please see The Hawks deep in the playoffs? How about another sweet ass Golden State run? Chi-Town when are you returning to greatness?

The only 2 things worth watching this year was The Thunder and The Bobcats with a nod to the Bucks. The Suns would be better if I didnt have to watch the lakers at the same time.

EDIT: Also, the Denver breakdown is a interesting but since LBJ isnt going there and Kobe hasnt been back to rape another girl they are not relevant enough to talk about.

Just to preface, I mean this as an honest question without any hint of sarcasm.

Didn't it get old when the Bulls were the only team capable of winning championships? I know we all talk about how much better the league was in the 90s for a variety of reasons, but when you look at it, the overall competition level wasn't that great. You had the Bulls at one tier, and even the next best team was a couple tiers below. Every other team was just fighting to be the last team the Bulls beat. I mean, it got so boring that Jordan retired and unretired to give himself a little challenge.

I do think you bring up an interesting point though. Lebron James has ruined broadcasters and sportswriters. It is tedious to have to listen to everyone spend every waking moment talking about him.

Ummm, Not really. I think it was mostly because Jordan was a once and a million player. Watching him was watching history. Even then you knew that he was the THE PLAYER that everyone else from now on will get compared too.Jordan at his prime was twice as good as Kobe at his and 3x better than LBJ (we dont know if he is at his prime yet though)

I know this is cliche but there was something about Jordan that simply was different. Just like Ali. Did anyone get tired of watching Ali beat the hell out of everyone 99% of his career? Nope..because you knew this guy was one in a million.

Also, the game was so different back then. Jordan earned his 45 points because he was getting body checked to the ground every time he went to the hole. Watching the superstars back then battle for 4 qrt was much more entertaining then watching superstars now free throw their way to 45 points.

I dont really know what to tell you man, you pose a good question. I wish they would go back to the best of 3 first round so I didnt have to waste 4 nights of garbage play when the 8th seed gets killed by the Lakers or Magic or Cavs.

To answer your question. Idunno

I hate the Lakers, but love Ron (he grew on me while playing for my Rockets last season), so good for him!

*ahem* Rockets repeated as champs during that era. Jordan was retired during the first, and was knocked out of the playoffs by the Magic during the second.

And yes, it got old watching the Bulls. Unlike most, I wasn't mesmerized by Jordan. Great player, but the sycophantic coverage of the NBA centered around Jordan was boring.
If Rondo goes down, they'll be in that much trouble.
If Rondo goes down, put a fork in them cause they would be done.

Tonight will decide the series. It should be a tough game for the Celtics as they will have to manage how they deal with Howard since they will be down a couple bigs (i.e. less guys to come in if they get in foul trouble). I think it is guaranteed that Baby doesn't play. Wallace sounds like a gametime decision since he couldnt sit down during film on Thursday. Perkins will have to play smart by watching his attitude (hate to get 1 technical and be suspended for Game 7) and stay out of foul trouble in order to stay in this game tonight.

I agree with you in that I prefer the way the game was played back then. But you could tune out once the finals started because the Bulls were going to win. Sure, Jordan might do something, but really, did the other team ever have a chance? Jordan hit a game winner? Great, all he did was keep the series from going to seven, which the Bulls would have won.

Besides, for my money, I'd rather watch a highlight reel of Magic Johnson passes than one of Jordan jumpshots.

Exactly. The only opening for any other team was Jordan leaving. Once Jordan had a full year back with the Bulls, three straight again. Yawn.

And I think the media fawning over Jordan was as bad as what Lebron's getting now. The difference is that there is a massive amount of new media from which we can now be over-saturated. I honestly didn't like Jordan much because everyone said he was so awesome. Same thing's happening now with Lebron. I don't want to watch Cavs games because 90% of the broadcast will be dickriding.

This is all you have to say about the NBA in the last 30 years. League has pretty much turned into the WWE in terms of being boring. NBA Titles since 1980.

Lakers 9
Bulls 6
Celtics 4
Spurs 4
Pistons 3
Rockets 2
76'ers and Heat with 1

8 Different teams have won in the last 30 years. Combine that with the Lakers/Celtics looking to win their 10th or 5th and it's boring.
On my own personal scale, I rank Magic Johnson ahead of Jordan on the "All Time Great" meter. Magic Johnson could play every position on the floor, 1-5, and almost every night be the best player on the floor at any of those positions. Same can't be said of Jordan

Jordan was great because he was ruthless. He didn't just want to beat you, he wanted to crush you. He was a killer. He didn't care what anyone thought about him personally - all he wanted to do was win. The only other player I've seen with the same mentality is Kobe (as much as I don't like him). Maybe Larry Bird too but Jordan was better.

WEEI producer called Tim Donaghy & told him who tonight's Game 6 refs are, Donaghy's reply "Orlando should dust off their golf clubs."

That is a big part of it. I always liked Jordans style. He didnt give a fuck if everyone on the planet hated him. He punched more people than Mike Tyson (most of which was his team mates)

But that isnt the discussion, the topic is whether its more boring to watch these teams now than it was there and my answer is YES YES YES. Again, at least back then the players were doing it against an actual defense.

Endless timeouts, endless tv breaks, endless fouls, endless free throws endless shitty interviews that mean nothing, endless amount of coverage on the same 3 topics.

Kenny Mauer, Mike Callahan and Monty McCutchen.

Callahan and McCutchen don't work Celtics games that often. They do have a history with Mauer but that was a long time ago. Their beef with him was for non-calls anyway which benefits them.

There's got to be a happy medium. I remember complaining when the Knicks used to win every game 83-79 or something.... and I'm a Knicks fan! I did enjoy the NBA more back then but probably because I was paying closer attention.

During the 80s, either the Lakers, Celtics (or both) played in every Finals.

I don't think there is anything "funny" going on, just that there does seem to be an ebb and flow of successful franchises winning titles. The Lakers, after the 80s, went into the "wilderness" until the Shaq years, the Pistons in 2004 stunned the Shaq/Lakers dynasty team, the Spurs drafted Tim Duncan and started winning championships where the Admiral could not alone, the Celtics were pretty bad for almost 20 years until they broke up their team to add Garnett and Allen to Pierce, etc.

Don't forget to add up the number of coaches that have won titles in the past 30 years - the number grows even less than the teams involved. So there's more factors involved than may be readily evident.

In the last 30 years, 18 teams have made it to the finals:

San Antonio Spurs
New Jersey Nets
Detroit Pistons
Los Angeles Lakers
Miami Heat
Dallas Mavericks
Cleveland Cavaliers
Boston Celtics
Orlando Magic
Philadelphia 76ers
Indiana Pacers
New York Knicks
Utah Jazz
Chicago Bulls
Seattle SuperSonics
Houston Rockets
Phoenix Suns
Portland Trail Blazers

And in the past 30 years, these coaches have won a championship:

Phil Jackson (10)
Pat Riley (5)
Gregg Popovich (4)
K.C. Jones (2)
Chuck Daly (2)
Rudy Tomjanovich (2)
Paul Westhead (1)
Bill Fitch (1)
Billy Cunningham (1)
Larry Brown (1)
Doc Rivers (1)

So asinine that we have to spend even a second scouting the refs. The other sports officiating isn't perfect but I sure as hell have never felt the need to find out their names before the game. heck I don't even know their names and I only recognize the one NFL ref with the huge guns that wears short sleeves in all weather. IMO if I don't know your name or better yet don't even notice you, you are a good ref

I don't want to hear about how they're sick of "always" seeing the Celtics winning... The Celtics have been through more shit the last 25 years than most franchises have in their entire history.

They had nothing but misery from when Lenny Bias died until Ainge was hired. They were a laughable franchise with pathetic management and ownership that didn't care, probably like how your favorite team is run if you're complaining about it.

Ainge worked for years to build a contender, and when he missed out on Kevin Durant he used all his chips to put Garnett and Allen around Pierce for what at best would be a 3 or 4 year window at contending. The window is closing fast, they've got one title out of it and they're looking for another one now. When this thing is over, Rondo will be in the positon Paul Pierce was in before 2008, the only star on mediocre to bad teams.

Do you people simply not like to see good basketball teams? Do you want a league full of mediocre teams with one star and a bunch of scrubs? Or do you just not like uptempo basketball and strong defense?

Yea you think you are sick of the Celtics now if Bias hadn't died we would probably have 4 more titles. Plus it would have been interesting watching him and Jordan go at it. Jordan never had a true rival and Bias had the potential to provide that
Well looks like the Celtics don't care about their players that well as Big Baby is suiting up tonight...
Quick 2nd foul on KG again, both of them pretty weak...

I guess the message sent there is that Howard can grab you by your jersey whenever he wants.

Lets see: Big Baby lost a tooth, his equilbrium, and had no clue where he was. He blacked out on the court. Marquis Daniels... he was shaken and walk off the court himself. He is out for this game yet Baby is playing... Hopefully Baby doesn't take another hard hit to his head tonight.

KG was hooking Lewis. Howard pointed it out. The refs let him play but he continue; thus the foul was called.

Another dirty play by Howard... Bullshit he's taking the hardest fouls in this series, Rondo is.

Ron Borges was right today for probably the first time in his life... Howard needs to get Rambis'd before the night is over.

What is with the ref taking care of Rondo...

are you kidding me... he was trying to block him. Rondo came in too quick and launch himself i.e. he was out of control.
