2010-2011 NBA Season Thread
Hey wildcpac, how satisfied would you be if the Knicks only land Amare out of the highly touted free agents? I have to imagine most Knicks fans will be sorely disappointed. Yeah, there is also next year to look forward to but I think Knicks fans are sick of waiting?

I'm just thinking how of much pressure will be put on Amare if LeBron doesn't go to NY.
2 steps forward 1 step back. All of the rumors of LeBron to NY is making the head spin. Amar'e is an upgrade over Lee but I just cannot picture Amar'e to be the first one to sign/agree to NY and nobody else is coming. Amar'e could have gotten his money from the Bulls or the Nets or stayed in Phoenix and tried to work something out there.

Amar'e definitely brings some legitimacy to NY. That alone is an upgrade over Lee. Rumors of Melo and LeBron wouldn't be circulating if Lee was still the face of the franchise.

Knicks just have to not give malcontents big contracts. Eddy Curry, Starbury, Franchise , Randolph were all head cases long before they got to NY. Plus no more trading of first round draft picks. I still cannot believe that Isiah gave up 2 lottery picks for Fatso Curry.

I hope Dallas bites on the sign and trade deal with Miami. Beasley and O'Neal for Haywood is totally a trade worth making. O'Neal is a shell of himself but he has a stronger offensive game and plays solid defense, and there is still a chance Beasley could become the player that everyone thought he would be. If he doesn't it is a small financial risk that could yield huge dividends.

ESPN NY employees are tweeting that LeBron has been seen in NY with Amare and Alan Houston having dinner. HAHAHAHAHA

It is also rumored that the salary cap will be higher than 56.1 million like originally believed.

If they only land Amare it would be a huge failure. The goal was to build a team to contend for a championship not for the 8th seed in the East.

Very interesting. Strange to say as a Celtics fan, but I'd almost rather he signs with the Knicks than the Heat at this point.. The Knicks with LeBron and Amar'e are a playoff team for sure but not necessarily the immediate juggernaut that the Heat would be with LeBron/Wade/Bosh. A lot would depend on how the Knicks build around those guys. I'm still hoping the Clippers come in at the 11th hour and shock everyone. LeBron goes west! (Not gonna happen)

Rumors are flying that the Deng to Portland deal for Joel P might be a 3 team trade with Rip Hamilton going to Chicago.

So.. Guesses on what fills the 55 minutes before LeBron makes his announcement?

I'm gonna say 25 minutes of commercials, 20 minutes of LeBron highlights, and 5 minutes each of people from various cities saying how awesome LeBron is, and LeBron saying how hard the decision to get paid millions and millions to play basketball in whatever city is about to treat him like royalty was.

I'll say this: I am super glad I have a late softball game tomorrow night and will miss the entire spectacle.

The announcement will occur in the first 10 minutes of the show. Rest of it is interview etc.

That's what gets me about all of this. He's waited this long, why not wait until at least 9:30 to make the announcement? ESPN will see a rapid drop in numbers once the announcement is made. By the time the announcement is made, the information will be readily available anywhere and so will commentary. If ESPN and Lebron milked this more, the Boys and Girls Club would make out like bandits from the ads.

You can expect to see a ton of new Nike commercials.

Being reported all over the place that Ray Allen gets 2 years 20 million from the Celtics. Makes a ton of sense since the Celtics are over the cap anyways the next 2 years. KG, Allen and Wallace if he doesn't retire are all making decent coin until 2012.

Seems like the right length, I'm happy with the signing. I have been a Ray Allen fan since he was a Huskie, so I'm glad he's staying.

Alot of people online are stating that they received text messages from ESPN Twitter and Espn ran an article with LeBron flying to Miami to meet with Pat Riley tonight. It was later removed.

OMG BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to sources, of a source, of a source, of a newspaperstand guy, of a friend, of a basketball camp kid, of a friend, of a friend, of Lebron, Lebron will sign with some team for a lot of money tomorrow night. These sources also added, that no one knows a damn thing.
ESPN News had it at the bottom of the screen with LeBron flying to Miami before it got pulled.
Post wasn't directed at you, but the "experts". I think it'd be funny to see it leaked where Lebron is going, only to have him change his mind last minute and screw over that team.

I'd be willing to bet the by 5pm at the latest, we have a good idea where he is going to be headed.

Lebron probably decided yesterday with his management team who realized they could capitalize off all the ESPN hype and get their own segment to break the news an ESPN/LBJ Exclusive!

Mike Francesa on WFan was going into a whole discussion about what James is doing is bad for the NBA. Sure it is giving the NBA a ton of publicity but it's making teams, fans, ownerships etc all look like fools. LeBron James has had Billionaire Owners, Head Coaches who have won championships all come to cowtail to him and kiss his feet. You do not get this in Hockey, NFL or the MLB. Well you do get it with Favre who I am sure is jealous that he didn't think of this years ago. James cares a ton about his brand but damn you would think that he would realize that he is alienating a ton of NBA fans with this dog and pony show.

Eeek. I don't like that trade at all. Doesn't O'neal have to be under contract to be traded? He is a free agent and I think he already stated 3 teams he is interested in.

I still like Beasley...Don't know too much about Haywood though.

I hope they show the reaction from fans who didn't get LeBron. I hope he goes to NY since I am a Warriors fan

@alanhahn: Multiple sources are telling Newsday that LeBron James has decided to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. The new Big Three is here.

Miami is the last place I want to see LeBron at. Hopefully this is just something to build up some hype.

ohh my god that team would be amazing. best team in nba history. if lebron does leave cleveland i hope he joins miami, they would go 82-0 and then sweep everyone in the playoffs, maybe LA would get one win in.

i hope kanye west is at the announcement tommorow:lol:

lebron im really happy your gonna announce your decision and all and ima let you finish but just wanted to say that twilight: eclipse was one of the worst movies ever, EVER!

This post can't be serious, right? It would be a very good team, but an NBA roster is not 3 players. To make the salaries work, Beasley will almost certainly be gone, Chalmers too probably.

Who's coming off the bench for that team? And for that matter, who's running the point?

I read a suggestion on another site that if LeBron does go to Miami, they should try to convince Iverson and Shaq to sign for the veteran minimum to round out the starting five and win a title. I laughed, but it's actually not the worst idea I've ever heard.

What happened to wwe saying that LBJ in Cleveland was set in stone? Damn, and now he's the Heat's #1 fan too.

On to the Heat, Three stars don't make a team. The C's Big Three needed a cast of role players to help fill out the team to win a title in 08. Its like having the "greatest player ever" on a team and surrounding him with crap and expecting them to shit gold. Oh, wait. Cleveland has a history of that, right? I'm not taking away from Bosh/Wade, but if they spend the extra money to sign LeBron they're practically forcing themselves into providing a horrible supporting cast unless Wade is willing to take the lowest amount he can sign for.

I'm stoked to see the Celtic's re-sign Allen.

LBJ going to Miami is the death nail for the NBA in my book. It doesn't guarantee a championship but it's going to kill off a ton of parity and interest around the league.

LBJ is also going to come off as the biggest bitch every who had to use 2 other star players to get a ring. He will never ever ever ever ever be mentioned in the same breathe as Michael. fuck, he will never be mentioned in the same breath as Kobe. Michael won Titles with Horace Grant as his #3 and a bunch of role players making out the roster beside Pippen. Michael didn't have to be some bitch going to a super team to win. NBA has lost 200 million every year since 2005 and 400 million in 2010. GEE! I wonder why!

And what the fuck is WWE doing drooling about the Miami Heat. Aren't you supposed to be a Cavs fan? Why is a Cavs fan drooling about James leaving and the fucking the franchise over to go be Wade's Bitch in Miami and ruining the league in the process.

I dunno about Iverson, he can't let go of the fact that he isn't the same guy he was 5 years ago. While I agree that the Heat would be amazing with LBJ, Bosh, and Wade, they'll literally all have to play 40 minutes a game since the bench would be pretty thin. Also, do you really think three guys in their prime would want to share the ball? I dunno, maybe, maybe not.

i dont want him to leave and i still think he is going to stay but if i had to choose a team for him other than the cavs, it would be the heat. and what are you talking about advanced? you really dont think lebron bosh and wade would be an instant title? screw the other 12 guys on the team, they could be from the dleague and they would still win the title.
and what are you talking about advanced? you really dont think lebron bosh and wade would be an instant title? screw the other 12 guys on the team, they could be from the dleague and they would still win the title.
Theres no such thing as an instant title, otherwise LBJ would have had one of those by now. Sure, they'd be a decent core, but since they're coming in at such a high price, the Heat probably won't be able to afford decent role players. Bosh and LeBron are worried about money and the only person who really wants to win is Wade, thats why he's been open about taking the pay cut if necessary.

Who's going to handle the game when LBJ, Bosh and Wade have to rest? The D-Leaguers? Yeah, right. All three would have to play upwards of 44 minutes a game, or at least 2 when the other team starts the immediate double team. Do that 82 times in a season and they'll burn out before everything really goes down. Think before you speak. Most teams' benches would rip through a group of D-Leaguers when given the chance, let alone the starting 5 for most teams. Otherwise teams would have done what the Heat are doing now and over paying 3 top guys and surrounding them with nobodies who will work for a bite to eat and a place to sleep.
Also, do you really think three guys in their prime would want to share the ball? I dunno, maybe, maybe not.
Exactly. Thats why the Celtics team worked with the Big three. All three, KG/Pierce/Allen, realized, through years of experience, that they'd have less time with the ball. They put egos aside and just went out and played like a team. LBJ/Bosh aren't going to want to that drop in ball time, but I think Wade will be a bit more willing. He really seems like he wants to win and he seems genuine about making the Heat a winner. I respect him for that and I can't fault him for looking around when he had the chance.

you think all three would ever be on the bench at the same time? you will have atleast 1 superstar in the whole time= winner

Seriously? Immediate double team, Superstar has to dish to a D-Leaguer who gets pwned by a bench player, immediate turnover. Seriously, a group of D-Leaguers surrounding the likes of Wade/Bosh/LeBron would be no better than what any of the three had before they left their respective old teams. They might as well as stayed there and gotten paid more to be losers.

Go watch a game of basketball and tell me how 1 Superstar beats a team. Hey, go watch the Cavs/Celtics series and tell me how 1 Superstar beats a team.

Doc Rivers said it best "When he scores, its only 2 points. Not 10. Don't overreact." It takes a team to win championships, otherwise LeBron would have his ring.

Edit: And shouldn't you be like, bawling or something? LeBron is almost destined to leave and you're acting as if he's just moving down the street. If he wins a ring, it won't be for Cleveland, it'll be for Miami. What makes you excited about that? Him winning a ring? You two go to school or something? Why would you care if someone as unimportant in your life as LBJ wins a ring? Seriously.

actually, lebron loves the double team, he will either slice through both defenders or find the open man 80% of the time. trust me ive been privelaged to watch almost all of lebrons games. his game is really a work of art, except when he gets jump shot happy

He can win championships by himself too. Him playing 1 on 5 would have been better than letting him have a supporting cast in Cleveland. He's God and the end-all be-all of Basketball.

Hey, everyone, we should be lucky that we get to see LeBron pull all this crap. We're watching God's hands at work here. Molding the NBA into the shape he sees fit.

Edit: Oh, wait.

Edit: An open D-leaguer might as well be a turnover committed by LBJ during a game in the NBA.
celtics suck. peax
Nothing to add? Nothing to rebuke with? Nothing to say at all besides "Celtics suck"? If the Celtics suck, then the Cleveland Cavs and all of Cleveland are bottom feeders because at least the Celtics have accomplished something within the past few years.

What have the Cavs accomplished?

Thats what I thought.

Is that Scallop brains?

And Lebron + Wade + Bosh does not equal instant championship. They need role players and a decent bench. Without that they won't even make it to the finals let alone win it all.

Personally I think he's going to the Knicks, but it's going to take some time to revive that franchise from the grave even with Amare. If Lebron wanted a championship right now next year he should have went to the Bulls but I completely understand- you can't touch the legacy there. He wants to make his own legacy so that's why I'm thinking either short term Cleveland or the Knicks.

I mean the Heat could definitely pay off big time but they need to find some more role players especially on the defensive end.

Bill Wennington has three titles, Jack Haley has one, too.

I've never understood why people point out when a bit player has 1+ titles when a superstar has none.

Are Robert Horry and Steve Kerr two of the greatest players ever? Is Lamar Odom better than Karl Malone? Is Derek Fisher better than John Stockton?

Stupid argument is stupid.

I should mention that Horace Grant was an amazing #3. Insanely efficient. Especially in 91-92. Perfect compliment to Jordan and Pippen. Think Pau Gasol with less volume.
