2010-2011 NBA Season Thread

Maybe part of me is still holding out hope for the Knicks. Part of me still believe that this is deflection and smoke screens done by his camp. LeBron still hasn't said anything to the Media and not once during this whole off season. This is a guy whose inner circle and himself have been tight lipped the whole time. They have this big special at 9 p.m. and the cat gets let out of the bag 24 hours before?

Donnie Walsh is working on the Knicks backup plans. Warriors are all set to trade Anthony Randolph to the Knicks for David Lee. Knicks are flirting with Felton who is ok but not great.
Bill Wennington has three titles, Jack Haley has one, too.

I've never understood why people point out when a bit player has 1+ titles when a superstar has none.

Are Robert Horry and Steve Kerr two of the greatest players ever? Is Lamar Odom better than Karl Malone? Is Derek Fisher better than John Stockton?

Stupid argument is stupid.

I should mention that Horace Grant was an amazing #3. Insanely efficient. Especially in 91-92. Perfect compliment to Jordan and Pippen. Think Pau Gasol with less volume.
wwe has turned this into a petty argument and I probably should have stopped last night. I apologize for continuing to egg him on, it was pretty childish of me. The main reason I listed Brian and Adam was because, during LBJ's Cav years, those two guys nabbed three of "his" rings through their respective teams.

And the argument isn't who is better, its who will be remembered for being better. Sure, Malone/Stockton were great, they're a great tandem and they deserve to be remembered, but they won't be remembered as champs. As for LBJ and his Cleveland Cavaliers days, those two will be remembered as "Close but no Cigar" years.

I'm pulling for NY. I have no interest in a Bosh/Wade/LBJ three way love fest.
This post can't be serious, right? It would be a very good team, but an NBA roster is not 3 players. To make the salaries work, Beasley will almost certainly be gone, Chalmers too probably.

Who's coming off the bench for that team? And for that matter, who's running the point?
I think the post is serious. I agree with it. Did you not watch Bosh and Wade's interview? BOTH of them stated that they would take a pay cut in order to build a championship team.

Look at what Lebron has down with middle of the road guys. Add in two All-Stars/All-NBA players. Think with all three on the floor... you couldn't just double Lebron because now you have Wade or Bosh who go off. All Miami would need at that point is a "steve kerr", who sits on the wing and drops wide open threes (they would get this type of player for cheap). Game over. I mentioned prior to all of free agency that Miami cleans house and so far it appears that way.

As for the bench, no one knows who will sign with them. You can probably expect to see Anthony and Haslem back (both for cheap). They drafted well (Da'Sean Butler is a steal). I think bench wise they will be fine when one of the superstars rest. I doubt all 2 or 3 (if Lebron signs) would be sitting at the same time.

So you agree that they're going to go 82-0 and sweep everyone in the playoffs?

Or did you not even bother to read the post I was quoting?

I never doubted it's going to be a very good team, probably the best team in the East, but things like depth matter. It's not an instant title.

It's not an instant title, but damn close. They were running numbers on sportscenter last night and showed ways they could keep Beasley etc. by the three just taking a couple million less a year each etc. If that happens, then it's pretty much an instant title.

Opus also wisely mentioned Da'Sean Butler who was a definitely steal in the draft, and will be a great player when he's back from his injury. Though I admit some homerism their from being a diehard WVU player. But none the less, he'll be a great role player on that team. Great shooter and ball handler, high basketball IQ etc.

Not looking forward to the Magic being stuck in the same division with this Heat team!

Not on the 82-0 comment but agreed with the Instant title comment. I think it is pretty solid with the three of them winning a championship (as long as they can check their egos like KG/Ray/Pierce did).

I'm still hoping he signs with the Knicks and that the leaked info from the "sources" are just saying he has decided to NOT stay in Cleveland (and people are assuming it means he is going to Miami).

I am hoping and praying it's smoke screens. Imagine how many free throws that 3 would get in Miami? 40 minimum combined per game.

Checking his ego isnt something LeBron probably wants to do, but if he could, that team would probably go straight to the Finals. I'd be worried about things when the pressure was on them. LBJ doesn't react well to pressure. A team like the Lakers could put them into some tight spots.

There is no such thing as an instant title. Even if they're the favorites (which they would be), that is never any guarantee of anything. Lesser teams beat better teams sometimes in the playoffs. LeBron James should know that pretty well by now.

Hopefully not. That would be one slow, boring game. I believe this whole charade is ruining the game of basketball. It kills competition in the league.

Anyway, the Orlando Magic boards are lighting up with talks of Marcin Gortat being traded. He mentioned to a Polish Newspaper that he got word of a trade in the works that would send him to a team where he could be a starting center.

I hope we don't. We need a quality backup to Dwight since he seems to sit alot (due to foul trouble).

Rumors are going around that LeBron's camp leaked a potential Miami destination to gauge the feelings around the league.

ESPN has ruined sports in general.

Most people hate on Bron which is fair but note that 80% of all this stems from ESPN embarrassing and ridiculous nature. ESPN is closer to TMZ than it is to sports journalism when it comes to the big sports in America.

Their soccer coverage is fantastic...they stories are actually about something and it has to be pretty big to even make sportscenter. Same goes for Tennis, Golf (anyone who isnt Tiger) and some of the back burner sports.

These motherfuckers take one thing is just bury it into the ground over and over again. You just made a deal with Bron to cover a 1 hour show fine I have no problem with that but you still choose to have 70% Bron talk during all your sports shows during the day. This is what I imagine being systemically raped feels like. Then there is ESPN insider that chargers you to listen to rumors heard from a sources source who might be such and suchs friend or in his camp.

It is disgusting how the sport has a whole is such a back seat to individual stories crazy shit. And if its not James, its Owens or Farve or Jordan or Tiger.

Is it ESPN's fault if they know that the general audience wants to eat that shit up? The American public prefers celebrity to quality. It's sad and pathetic, but it's true. ESPN has recognized it, and they're going to cater to it in order to get ratings.

Thats very true Bard. They are part of the problem but it starts with us...the viewer.

I spend most of my time on NBA.com or NFL.com. Because I can go to those two sites and get actual news about the sports. Now they also have their share of fluff craziness but its far less than ESPN.

Hypothetical: Does LeBron going to Miami lessen his legacy in the end? Let's say they win 3 titles. Was that because of LeBron, or did LeBron need Wade (or Wade and Bosh) in order to win? Wade himself basically won the title in 2006, it was more individual effort than team. LeBron couldn't accomplish that in Cleveland.

I say Yes, because HE didn't win, which is what he wants so bad. He would have won it as part of a team, something I don't think LeBron actually wants to be a part of.
I say Yes, because HE didn't win, which is what he wants so bad. He would have won it as part of a team, something I don't think LeBron actually wants to be a part of.
Which is stupid, because everyone needs other players. Kobe needs Gasol. Kobe needed Shaq. Wade needed Shaq. Jordan needed Pippen. Etc... If he thinks he can do everything on his own. He's stupid. Look how well that worked out for him in Cleveland.

I swear to god this legacy bullshit is so over rated. The only people who will care about that is Anti Bron people who want to make argument against him and these old farts who play the "back in my day," card.

I am Anti Kobe and you damn right I bring up the fact that Kobe never one a title without a superstar big man. But does anyone else care? Hell no. He still has 5 titles and he will still go done as one of the all time greats as far as winning goes.

The same applies to James. End of story.

I wholeheartedly agree, brownjohn. Teams win championships, people win awards.

LBJs career is impressive, due to his solo accomplishments, but he'll need to play as a part in a team to win a championship.

Honestly, I don't think it lessens it, but if that team doesn't win at least 8 championships, I think it's a bust. I mean, the Celtics assembled an impressive team, but it was when those guys were late in their careers, this team would be while they were in the prime of their careers!

It's not about not needing anyone else to win. Everyone knows teams win championships. It's about being the top dog on those winning teams like all of the great champions were (Jordan, Kobe, Bird, Magic, etc.). Even if LeBron wins 10 titles in Miami with Dwayne Wade he will never elevate himself to the "greatest of all time" discussions because it won't be HIS team. If he goes to Miami it's a total cop-out.

Bah. I just disagree. His him, this team, that team.

What matters is Rings, Rings, Rings.

Why dont we talk about Karl Malone more? Or Barkelys playing career more? Or any of the dozens of H.O.F players that never won a ring.Your legacy is solely dependent on Rings. When he retires people will see this as the day that 3 people put their egos aside and won _ rings. That is all. The stat book doesnt say he won 7 rings but had to do it with Wade. It will only say he won 7 rings.

Hell Wade is a pretty laid back guy he might even let Bron be the Alpha and step into that spot if he is struggling.

Bah, I just disagree. ;) It's not all about rings. No one thinks Robert Horry or Derek Fisher are in the discussions for greatest ever - they each won a ton of rings and were very important pieces on those championship teams but neither is going to the Hall of Fame let alone going down in history as one of the best ever.

To be one of the best ever you need rings AND you need to be the most important player on the team - the leader - the guy who will get in a teammate's face if necessary - the guy with the killer mentality who will do whatever it takes to win. I just don't see LeBron being that guy in Miami alongside D. Wade. Maybe he doesn't have it in him and that's the reason he will go to Miami. Too bad.

But you are assuming that is his life goal. The only confirmed from the horses mouth thing I have heard from Bron is that he wants to win rings. (I dont know if I heard he wants to win 7 or if that was just people saying)

Could it be that people are just assuming he wants to be the greatest of all time and be the alpha etc etc? He pretty much was forced to on the Cavs because they are so horrid but he plays pretty damn unselfishly.

I just dont get why its required of him to go to a shitty team just so everyone else can sleep at night. How long is he required to struggle with a shitty team before he can cash in?

Has he not already done his part? Lifted the Cavs to the best record, got them as close to a ring has anyone in the entire city on any team has got. Gave the world a reason to even give 2 shits about Ohio when its not the Bucs. What else is he required to do?

Its funny how people rip on him about being some ego crazed child but then in the same breath require the man to basically be Jesus and save the city of Cleveland before dieing on the court.
Here is Coach Van Gundy (Stan) take on the free agency. It's pretty great.

And SVG has won what?

I agree but he is acting all smug when in reality he is constantly on the hot seat as far as coaching goes.

I just dont know if he is in a position to be ripping anyone when his teams constantly fall apart during play off runs.

Broussard is a moron. He's sent out plenty of false info this year.

I just can't see Lebron splitting shots with Wade and Bosh. If Wade's usually good for 25 a night, Lebron's going to bring that to about 15. That's a big ego check for three guys used to being the star of the team.

Pretty much anyway tonight goes, short of him saying he is refusing to play b-ball until BP cleans up the oil and world peace is established, is going to make him look like a villain in the eyes of most of country.

Championships are very important. LeBron can go to Miami and win a couple and have a successful career. He will just never ever ever be treated or mentioned along with the all time greats.

Jordan had Pippen and a bunch of role players. Cartwright, Grant, BJ, Perdue the first 3. Harper, Kukoc, Wennington, Rodman and Longley for the last 3.

Magic had Worth and Kareem. Kareem was already in the league for a decade plus and Worthy was a draft pick.

Isiah and Joe Dumars had eachother along with Rodman, Salley and others. They were a team that had played a long time together.

Bird had Mchale and Parish. Celtics drafted Bird and traded Jon Barry Carroll for Parish and Kevin.

LeBitch conspiring and colluding with Wade and his GF Bosh isn't going to get the same respect. This would have been Michael Jordan conspiring with Barkley and Ewing back in 1990 to form some super team. Because Jordan and the Bulls lost every year to the Pistons in the playoffs. Players from the 80's and 90's and before respected the game. They didn't collude to form megateams to ruin the sport.
Magic and Bird respected eachother but they hated eachother. Jordan and Thomas hated eachother.

Meh. As a Lakers fan, I don't really care where he goes. If he teams up with Wade in Miami, I'm sure they will be the favorites to win it, but the Lakers will still make it to the finals next year, and anything can happen in the finals.

Yup, him and his team have killed his image the past several weeks that isn't going to be repaired. I am sure Nike is beyond pissed. He doesn't owe the fans around the league anything but that still doesn't change the fact that he has played games with several teams and the fans emotions. Him being tight lipped, taking forever and making a media circus about a 10 second announcement for something he has known all along. During this circus he has played with the emotions of his own team and the hometown fans. People from Ohio are ready to do a mass Jim Jones koolaid suicide if he leaves. He played mind games with Chicago and NY. Two of the biggest markets in the United States and the World. I hope he doesn't plan on selling too many t shirts, clothings and sneakers there. This whole circus has pissed off the majority of fans around the league as well.

LeBron could have come out last weekend after meeting with all of the teams and made an announcement. It would have saved his Brand Image and reputation. Especially if he didn't announce that he was going to Miami to play with a dream team to finally try to win. It's beyond sad that Kevin Durant who is probably a better player than LeBron and who is younger too announced on Twitter that he signed an extension with the Thunder.

This. He could go out with a box of tissues and clean up the spill himself and still be viewed has the worlds worst.

My only thing about this is people rip him so hard when in reality he hasnt really done anything wrong. He might be a little selfish (I wouldnt know) or demanding or whatever.

But until he rapes a girl, runs over a old man, punches grandma at the strip club then I dont think he deserves the amount of hate that he gets. Hell for example I just moved back to Michigan and Red Wings player Bob Probert died recently. People started praising this man calling him a hero. The guy was on all types of drugs and had numerous arrest yet you love him and hate James?

It does make any sense.

some more news +rumors

Nets are signing Travis Outlaw, and going after Kyle Korver and Tyrus Thomas or Luis Scola. Lol free up all this cap space to go after role players

Hedo for Sasha and Walton. Wait Lakers just got a lot better?

Jermaine O'Neal signs with the Celtics. Travis Outlaw is rumored to be getting 5 years 35 million from the Nets.

Heat have made Mike Miller a contract offer 5 years 30 millionish? Midnight Deadline.

But if he would have just come out and said it you wouldnt have been able to post a thousand rumors about where he might end up. I like how you just tried to slide in that comment about Kevin Durant in like you just formed that opinion yourself and that exact same statement wasnt said in the SVG clip posted 15 min ago.

Can you really criticize the media circus when you have bought front row season tickets, all of the action figures, signed up for the newsletter and stood in line for a autograph?

Good. I never liked Walton, but Sasha had some good moments. Turkoglu is a huge improvement for the bench, though, which they need.

If that is true LA has go to be the Tallest team in the NBA.

7ft Gasol, 7ft Bynum, 6-10 Odem (really 6-10?) 6-10 Hedo. Damn just the length alone makes them tough to beat.

Chalmers and Beasley. LeBitch feels that he can only win if he has hall of famers all over the place. Dream Team in Miami!!!!!!!!! Thats the way to compete with Michael, Magic, Bird and Kobe.
