2010-2011 NBA Season Thread
The Magic are signing Q Rich... ugh... I guess that means JJ is out the door

Haslem is re-signing with the Heat.
Not necessarily. A couple reports I just read think it just means Barnes is gone and Redick will still be re-signed.
i dont understand why the league can fine dan gilbert $100k. what happened to that little thing called freedom of speech?
Free speech only applies to government censorship.
i still think we can compete for the 4-5 seed in the east if we bring in one of :granger, al jefferson, or iggy. maybe we can get one of them with the trade exception we got from miami. we also have about 14 million in cap space.
Good Luck with that. Top 4 in the East will be Orlando, Miami, Boston, and Chicago. Rounding the next 2 would easily be Atlanta and Milwaukee. Claiming one of the remaining two spots is going to be tough with what you have left, especially since Charlotte should still be good and Washington is looking better by the days (if Arenas and Wall gel).

I don't know how you plan on getting any of those players. Granger and Iggy aren't being shopped to my knowledge (both on long contracts). Jefferson is currently rumored in trade talks with both the Mavs and Utah. I don't see Cleveland having enough pull to capture one of these type of players.

possibly. i heard grangers name in a few trade rumors with new jersey. also maybe philly will want to trade iggy now that they got evan turner

Turner is truly a SG and Iggy is truly a SF. Turner is an all-around player (i.e. plays all positions and great jump shot) and Iggy is a slasher. I don't see why they would deal him since they should work great together. The only thing the 76ers are trying to deal is Elton Brand (which no one wants to take on his salary).
i dont understand how the heat can offer mike miller that contract. can anyone please tell me their cap situation?
The Beasley deal is what allowed them to do that.
i dont understand why the league can fine dan gilbert $100k. what happened to that little thing called freedom of speech?
I think he has about $16.5 million laying around he wasn't going to use, so that 100k is a drop in the bucket about now.

The Magic will match JJ, but Barnes is definitely out the door.

I'd like to see this Al Jefferson to Utah trade go through. I could watch he and Williams run the pnr all day.

Heat roster is coming together pretty nicely (sucks as a Magic fan!).

Starting line up looks like:

Chalmers
Wade
James
Bosh
Ilgauskas

Bench:

Miller
Haslem
The rookies (Butler when healthy, Pittman, Varnado)
And whoever else they pick up.

Talk about unbalancing a league. I used to enjoy teams with one or maybe two stars. You were lucky to get one superstar. Cause when they play each other, the competition ramps up and they try to bring out the best of themselves.

I'll probably catch a fair amount of the Bulls games, but my interest in watching the other random games on TNT is gone....we already know which team will be on. See ya NBA. At least football will be back soon.

Bug Z leaving is like kicking sand in the face of Cavs fans after the barrage of punches LBJ landed. Wasn't he a huge fan favorite there?

He's a great addition to the Heat.

Big Z is one bad step away from retirement. Him and Shaq were competing for the highest paid waste of space on that team. Jamison came close to winning....

Shoot....lord knows the Heat didn't really want that man. He's the only option available.

I bet you Pat Riley is kicking himself that he couldn't grab up Darko...bwahahahahahaha!!!!

Think I rather have Joel Anthony start at Center.

We all thought Z was going to retire. He plays really soft and I can't see him helping Miami get by Orlando or Boston in the east so I hope they have other options. But no hard feelings for Z, he deserves a ring and we'll welcome him back with open arms when he retires.

Oh yeah, I forgot they still have Anthony.

Z is a good pick up. With his shooting range he can draw the other teams center or power forward out and open up the paint more for Bosh to score inside.

Al Jefferson to the Jazz.
Whenever I see Jefferson I can't help but think what a waste he's becoming... He has no interest in playing defense and he's pretty slow footed anyway. He had a great coach in Clifford Ray trying to teach him in Boston and perhaps the big man with the best footwork of all time in Kevin McHale trying to teach him in Minnesota and he just wasn't interested. He only cares about the offensive side of the ball.

He would be amazing if he were a complete player but he's not good enough offensively to ignore his defense.

Damn iPhone acted it up. I agree with what you stated. I had a bit more but it looks like it got erased or messed up or something. He'll be pretty good off the bench for a few minutes though.

My sentiments are the same. I don't have any problem with Z playing with the Heat even though I'm a Cavs fan. I have a lot of respect for him.

wtf is the cavs FO thinking give lowry a 24 million dollar contract? we already have 3 PGs and we should have used that money for a center.
Braves get Alex Gonzales from the Blue Jays for Escobar. Other players involved (5 players total counting Gonzales and Escobar).
NBA thread man..

They may be looking to move Mo Williams or Delonte West, that'd be my guess.

Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress are officially with the Suns, I think both players will fit in nicely with the Suns system. I like both acquisitions.

When Steve Nash is running the point guard spot on your team, your stats as a player go up +1.

Nice to see Suns putting some pieces together even after Amare left. Nash is my fave non-laker player. Hope Hedo plays motivated for you guys.
yes!!! rockets matched offer for lowry. thank god.
Lowry is an upgrade over Mo Williams - seriously. You shouldn't be happy about this. Mo Williams as a starting PG only makes sense with someone who dominates the ball, like Kobe, LeBron, or Wade.

I don't know about the Hedo move. Dude likes the ball in his hands way too much to play with someone who runs the point as well as Nash does. He is at his best running iso's at the top of the key and that shit ain't going to fly in PHX.

Lowry doesn't make anymore sense. There is a reason why he has been a backup since he hit the NBA. Mo Williams has started about every season in his career. Remember this guy use to carry a team on his back with Redd in Milwaukee, averaging 17.9pts a game. There is no way Lowry has that same effect.

I like having another playmaker out there, it puts less stress on Nash.

ya but i dont want us to sign any players now. i want us to save cap space and do a rebuild and get some good draft picks.

Yeah it's nice to see, I think a lot of people (myself included) thought Sarver would be content with a cheap Amare replacement in Hakim Warrick, and that's it.

I agree. The Cavaliers sold out their future enough to try and keep LeBron happy. Now that he's gone they can start building right.

Nash can rest his back for more minutes a game with Hedo playing the point-foward like he did in Orlando after Jameer went down. That'll keep him fresher for the playoffs. Hedo isn't a poor spot-up shooter by any means, and since he'll play the 4 with Nash on court, he'll help stretch the court. Amare and he play equally poor defense, so that's a wash. The loss of length and athleticism can be made up for with Lopez coming into his own and having the paint all to himself. I don't think it makes them better than last year by any means, but I like the move on the whole.

Good luck with that. Hedo playing the 4 will be a bigger liability on defense. He can't guard the Pau Gasol/Kevin Garnett/Tim Duncans of the NBA. He has played the 3 his whole career.
Good luck with that. Hedo playing the 4 will be a bigger liability on defense.
Hedo and Amare are both 6'10", and neither defends worth a damn. When no effort is given by either, youth and athleticism are both moot points. Hedo will be able to stay in front of more 4s than he will 3s. Let Lopez battle with them down in the post.
He can't guard the Pau Gasol/Kevin Garnett/Tim Duncans of the NBA.
There are few players in the league who can, and Amare wasn't one of them. Last I checked, he couldn't contain Odom in the WCF, much less Gasol.
He has played the 3 his whole career.
He's played every position, with the exception of center, throughout his career (albiet never for long stretches). He's bigger than Diaw, who played a great deal of PF while he was in Phoenix.

I never said it was a perfect fit, but it's a lot better than only signing Warrick and letting him start.
Word around here is that Earry Ellison is close to buying the Warriors
It was a slam dunk.

The 6th richest man in the world was about to buy my team.

And in true Warriors fashion I get some reject from a Vegas side-show.

fuck you Cohan.

fuck you Stern.

fuck you NBA.
JJ is staying in Orlando. They matched the Chicago offer today. Yay! :)
Damn, talk about utilizing the time window. It was a full 7 days, right?

Good for them, he's a solid scorer off the bench.
