2010-2011 NBA Season Thread
i dont really care much for basketball outside of the playoffs. but i read today that 'arco arena' will now be known as 'power balance pavilion' as of march 1st.

im so embarrassed.
It amazes me that so many athletes believe those things work.
17 dimes by Turk helps my fantasy team a ton. It's crazy how terrible he was with the Raptors and the Suns, and is just utterly dominant when he's with the Magic.
The Raptors and Suns just didn't use him the right way.

He really only excels when he's on a team that doesn't have a great, floor general PG and a lot of the offense runs through him. He's more a point forward type. Try to use him as a traditional 3 or 4, and he just isn't that great.

I was a little surprised the Suns didn't use him in that way, actually, as they highlighted his playmaking abilities as a reason for his signing, he was to relieve pressure off of Nash but instead they just had him bricking 3's.

Well, that's just it. They have one of the best playmakers in the league in Nash. The offense was always going to go through Nash most of the game.

Where as Nelson is a good scoring point guard, but not much of a floor general. Same with Arenas and Williams. Duhon is a good defender, but not great distributor.

So the Magic really need someone one other than their PGs to help facilitate the offense, and Turk is perfect for that.
Wow, to think I was going to drop JR Smith last week.

Glad I kept him.

Nice to see the Heat get decimated to.
JR is the weakest link in one of my fantasy teams, but I can't stand to drop him because he will straight up EXPLODE every once in a while. His 8 3-pointers single-handedly won the 3pt category for me. :D

I'm actually dominating this week so far, don't expect it to last that long though.

His line up is

PG - Gilbert Arenas
SG - Leandro Barbosa *Injured
G - Andre Miller
SF - Carmelo Anthony
PF - Al Jefferson
F - Kevin Love
C - Dwight Howard
C - Channing Frye
Util - Andrew Bogut
Util - Danilo Gillinari

Love and Howard pretty much can beat my whole team in rebounds.

Thanks to Amar'es 41 I'm winning in overall points. As well as Assists, Blocks, Turnovers, Blocks, and Free throw %
The Celtics just dominated the last 5 minutes of that game.
Sure did. Thats what Game 7 would have been if Perk didn't go down. Good game, better win.

The Celtics have so much more depth up front now, its ridiculous.

I was just telling my dad that today. Each different center we have is a different, unique type of player and we just have so many bigs now that its crazy.

I know it won't happen, but with Ron Ron wanting a trade I would love for him to come to Dallas. With Butler injured, he would make our defense so much better.

Jesus Lebron is killing the Magic.

23 points in the first quarter. 9/9 from the field, 5/6 from the line.

Thankfully no one else did much of anything so the Magic are only down by 4 at the end of the 1st.
Kevin Love got screwed. Hopefully, the league will do the right thing and name him to replace Yao Ming.
He's got great stats, but he's not very entertaining, and he plays for one of the worst teams in the league. I don't really want to see him in the all star game.

Blake Griffin was a great choice. He's going to be the obvious rookie of the year, plus his numbers are great, he's the most exciting player, and the game is on his home court.

Hope so. Guy's leading the league in rebounding and drops over 20 a game. Give me a break.

That was a great shot by Kidd.

Great win by Dallas. I had doubt that they would look like contenders after Butler went out, but they look like they could come out of the West this year.

Yeesh, by that standard, I would never want to see Timmy D, because his game is boring as hell. Love can also shoot the three, which makes him kind of a rare breed.

He is his replacement.

After half, I had to turn it off. He ended with 51... He really went off. This is why the Heat will be scary come playoffs.

Glad Love made it in. I agree with the above that Griffin deserved a spot. It was Pau Gasol I'd have left off the reserves list for Love. But he's in now so it's moot.

wow Cavs... they are going to break the record and also be first to go from best to worst in one season

this was a 60 win team with Lebron

Crazy day yesterday - Jerry Sloan resigning is pretty sad as I consider him the essence of the Utah Jazz franchise; Ray Allen surpassing Reggie Miller's record for 3-pointers made (with Miller there calling the game even) was a sweet moment; and Afflalo hitting a buzzer-beater to end the Mavs' 10-game winning streak after Melo fouled out. Not too shabby.

We got a chance tonight! :D

:edit: SICK BLOCK. Hickson's been on his game tonight. Looking like this streak might finally be put to rest.
:edit 2: "THE BASKETBALL GODS HAVE FINALLY SMILED UPON CLEVELAND OHIO":bow::bow::bow::bow:

lol in all seriousness though that was a hell of a game. Glad to have Mo back in the lineup.

How do you guys think Jimmer will pan out in the NBA next year?

I saw him play us in HS when I was a freshman. Been following him since like 6 years ago. So awesome seeing someone from my area make it big and probably make it to the league. There's really only one or two other guys even playing D1 right now from our HS leage/section. It's unreal turning on sportscenter and having him be the talk of the hour.

Trying to get tickets for this weekends all star event here at Staples Center. $400 the cheapest, in the nosebleeds, for Saturdays events.

I think i might pay that to see Blake Griffin dunk from half court...
I think he'll be like jj reddick worst case scenario, best case scenario is he will be like a slower Stephen curry.
JJ Redick... terrible analogy. Every play ran through JJ. All he did was shoot lights out. Zero defense and ran off 100 screens in college (the Dukie way). He spent the first so many of his NBA years having to bulk up and learn to play defense. In addition, JJ played on a team that plays in the deepest conferences not named the Big East. Jimmer doesn't play like that so it is hard to use JJ in a comparison with him.

Now that Sullinger kid he will turn some eyes.

Great win by the Bulls over the team with the best record in the NBA- the Spurs- 109-99. Derrick Rose set his career high with 42 points and continued to prove why he should be the front runner for MVP. The Bulls are now 38-16 after going 41-41 the previous 2 seasons, and that's with Boozer having missed 1/3 of their games and Noah being out for half the season, which further reinforces how great Rose has been.

There's no coincidence that Rose's stats are up across the board and the Bulls are up from a .500 to a .700 win team. He is doing more the lion's share of the work for the team and his play this season is definitely worthy of MVP talks.

That said, LeBron's going to be the MVP because Miami is a sexier team and that's the way the NBA likes to roll.

Lebron wins it every year until he retires. Guaranteed.

Man, the Clippers are going to fuck Griffins career up. Someone needs to sit the boy down and teach him how to really play basketball. We all love Blake but he is playing solely on raw athleticism.

I hope they he is smart enough to know he has to develop some other traits to have a long successfully career and he wont get the training at the Clippers.
At least Griffin made it on his first try.

Still a joke of a contest though.
put the haterade down and enjoy this for being a million times better than last years

It's kind of a joke how they let the fans start voting before the final round even begins.

McGee had no chance of winning. He could've dunked from the OPPOSITE free throw line, and Griffin would still be the champion.

It takes away from a lot of the excitement when it takes some of these guys four, five, six tries to get the dunk right.

Overall, that was the best NBA dunk contest I can remember seeing, and I've seen most of them over the last couple decades. The first round was just ridiculous and kind of set the bar too high, but the spectacle of Griffin jumping over the Kia with the Crenshaw choir singing some R. Kelly was nuts. Sure, the misses take away from the excitement a bit, but it's something I got accustomed to long ago.
