2010-2011 NBA Season Thread
Just thought i'd drop in and give my $0.02 on the playoffs thus far.

First i'll start with the Bulls/Pacers; after watching the first two games, it is crystal clear that the bulls are not as good as their record shows. They will probbably win that series, but there is no way they are coming out of the east; espically if they face the Magic in Rd2.

Celtics should be able to escape the knicks in about 5, but that's as far as they go. The Heat are going to bounce them in the 2nd round.

Magic should be able to handle the Hawks in about 6 games. As long as Howard continues to dominate, the Hawks have no chance of beating the Magic 4 times. I also expect the Magic to "upset" the Bulls in round 2.

Heat will easily sweep the Sixers. the Sixers are the worst team in the playoffs IMO.
Lol @ you LeBrandwagon fan. Also, what does not as good as their record mean? Everyone is as good as their record. Bulls were good enough to win 62 games and lose 20. That's why that's their record.

Actually, i'm a Cavs fan so I don't think i'm a "LeBrandwagon fan". Secondly, the Bulls are not winning a title or coming out of the east for that matter. As a Cavs fan, I look at the Bulls and see a weaker version of the 60 win Cavs teams. What I mean is that they are a one man show with no true second option. If a superior player like Lebron couldn't get it done with better role players in Cleveland, Rose will not get it done with those teammates.

I still don't see Orlando beating them. What is Boozer, junk? You're being ridiculous. I could see making the argument that Boston will beat them, but not Orlando.

I'm quite happy the Celtics defeated the Knicks, I think we can clearly see who is going to win that series. I'm still disappointed though that the Hawks lost last night

The Knicks still have a chance since they haven't played a home game yet. They could tie it with the next two games in MSG.

I don't know if you can be too happy as a Celtic fan from that game. Of course they won and will probably win the series, but 30 points from Rondo? When is that going to happen again. And Carmelo basically almost won the game by himself, no Amar'e really, and no Billups. Should be interesting in NYC if those two are back at full strength.

To clarify, I still think the Celts will win this series but for the next series probably at Miami... This is not a good sign to say the least.

I'm not a Celtic's fan, but I prefer them over the Knicks, and yeah...I'm going to be worried about the next series if it's against the Heat

I'm happy as a Celtics fan. It's the playoffs, I'm happy with any win no matter how unimpressive. My expectations for the playoffs in general are more modest than in years past, but I never look a gift playoff win in the mouth.
Eh? The Magic lost to the Hawks once already, and barely won this game. I don't see them beating the Bulls. It's been shown that Howard can get his and they can still lose.
Yep. It's because, as I've said many times, Van Gundy is a shitty offensive coach.

The offense consists of little more than dumping it into Howard and having him kick it out for threes if he gets double teamed.

So teams have started to adapt and just let him get his 30 points and not giving up as many open jump shots to his teammates. The Celtics did it last year to beat them in the playoffs, and the Hawks are trying it now.

If the Magic don't make it at least to the Eastern Finals, they need to get a new coach who runs a better offense and runs more screens, has guys like Jason Richardson attack the basket more often by clearing Howard out of the paint etc.

Completely, completely, agree. They got Richardson and basically treat him like Reddick.

I have been saying it for years. Howard is who he is...we will never been a offensive powerhouse that does not take away from how fantastic his other skills are. The Magic have been really lazy about adjusting their tactics to Howard.

As you guys have said the dump it down and watch simply does not work with a player like Howard. How about running some damn plays every once and a while, working a more dynamic pick and roll with Howard would also work in my opinion.

Yep.

If they flame out in the first or second round, Van Gundy either needs to be fired or are the very least forced to hire a Tex Winters type assistant coach who's an offensive guru and has control over designing and running the offense.

It starts: http://staydwight.com/

Oh what are the odds tex winters teaching are strong in the purple and gold. HEAD WEST YOUNG DWIGHT!!!

Hope the Lakers show up tonight. No more half-assing.:bomb:

Howard already proves himself as an offensive force. Most can't stop his spin move. He now has a good jump hook. All he is missing is his free throws at this point. (and No he does not need to shoot jumpshots). See Game 1 and 2.

If Orlando doesn't beat Atlanta (which I still have belief our team will win), Van Gundy gets fired. His offense is terrible. It would be nice to see some screens. JRich and Hedo both slash yet they get on the Magic and camp the 3. Says more about what a sorry coach Van Gundy is.

As for the Bulls talk, I believe they don't beat either us or Atlanta. Chicago hasn't looked that great since making the playoffs. Derrick Rose can only do so much.

Like I said, they got their wins. :) If Rose can get his, they win. If Howard can get his, they might win, they might not.
I'm sure if your work some search magic you can find a tv that has NBATV. ;)
Or a website streaming live...

I wish the NBA would go back to putting games on at a decent hour. Mavs game is going to end at 1 tonight. I wish they would go back to the old days where they actually had day playoff games. I remember coming home from school just in time to catch Allan Houston's GW in that epic Heat/ Knicks series.
Damn, why is the Bulls game on NBATV tonight? I don't have NBATV.
I'm pretty sure the game is on Comcast Sports too. I'm watching it now. I don't have NBATV either.

Well, that was a frustrating game to attend as a Magic fan. Played crappy all night, and still had a chance to win but a couple terrible possessions at the end killed their chances, along with a lucky bank shot by Crawford. :bomb:

Anyone watching the Mavs/Blazers? It sounds like some Portland fans are using noise-makers; thought that wasn't allowed.
Anyone watching the Mavs/Blazers? It sounds like some Portland fans are using noise-makers; thought that wasn't allowed.
nope no one cares about Dallas

Nice work Blazers, I think the Mavs have the same issue the Spurs/Celtics do, aging superstars backed by a decent bench.

Mavs should have kept Steve Nash. I'm also not certain if Chandler cuts it as a center. Its going to be tough for the Mavs/Blazers in the next round.

Z-Bo's first career playoff three sealed the deal for the first ever Grizzlies home playoff win. I fully expect this series to finish in 7 and games 4,5,6, and 7 will probably be won by 1-5 pts. Anyone questioning the tanking by Memphis in the last two games hopefully sees the reasoning behind it now.

And Roy was insane tonite.

derrick rose has played like ass since the playoffs started. MVP huh?

With his game tonight, for the playoffs, he's at 22 shots per game, shooting 35% on FGs and 17% on 3's (on 29 attempts), and only 6 assists per game/4 turnovers per game.

bravo MVP......

i'm supposed to believe THIS GUY is going to lead THAT TEAM to the championship? :)

I was pissed about the Bulls not sweeping Indiana. But then I saw Mavericks, Magic, Spurs all being suckish in their series and now i'm.....still worried about the Bulls. It's all about The Bron. The heats/refs will be insurmountable if they can't overcome the pacers.

Soooooooo Knicks trade haters the team that apparently got the way better deal is being swept by OKC. Just hanging it out there.

Question. I have not followed Portland all year....whats the deal with Roy? I know his knees are always hurt but from the report I just read people are talking as though he is a garbage player not just a injury prone superstar.

He's always had knee troubles and he had some sort of full on blown knee earlier this year that took him out for most of the season. He's still good but he lost a step and can't play 40 minutes a night anymore. I guess it was sort of a big deal for him last night because of that.

He played poor in Game 4. No excuses. The problem is guys like Boozer ain't doing jack squat. Boozer is seriously letting the team down. One guy cannot possibly win a championship for someone. The other guys need to step up.

The Bulls are just playing sloppy ball. Too many turn overs, not being aggressive enough, and so on. I think in Round 2 it'll be a completely different story though once you see a different match up.

Look, the Bulls were able to bring down a 20 point lead to 2 in the 4th quarter. If they played like that all game, instead of just the last 5 minutes, they are a sure shot for winning the championship.

I didn't think the Nuggets got the better deal.

I just thought it was a bad trade for the Knicks since it wasn't going to help them this year (as this series is showing) and they almost definitely could have got him in free agency in the off season and then pick and choose who they wanted to keep around him rather having that dictated in the trade. That would have left them more able to put together a solid supporting cast than trading away so much and pretty much starting from scratch on the supporting cast. If nothing else, being able to keep Gallinari to be the 3rd option of offense would have been a huge plus.

But I hate the Knicks, so I'm glad they made the trade! :D
Soooooooo Knicks trade haters the team that apparently got the way better deal is being swept by OKC. Just hanging it out there.
OKC is a good team. They picked up a solid center in Perkins, which only made them better. I wouldn't show that this series discredits the deal. Let's look at the Knicks. The Knicks were blown out in the 3rd quarter last game to the Celtics, who have been playing poorly since dealing Perkins. OKC, on the other hand, has been playing very good since their trade.
The Hawks are going to end their series tonight, no questions asked
Just to state the obvious... the Hawks can't end the series tonight since a team needs to secure 4 wins to win a series.

Speaking on last game, the refs/David Stern are just out for us. You are going to suspend our player (JRich) another game for pushing a guy in the face after being headbutted 3 fucking times. Seriously, Zaza is luckily he wasn't knocked the fuck out last night... I understand him being ejected but there is no way he should be suspended a second game. Zaza should be thrown out for more games for instigating shit.

Both him and Collins are a bunch of pussies. They are ten times the size of guys like Nelson yet they dive to the ground any time they feel a touch. Again, a bunch of pussies. I wish the NBA would see things for what they are.

Everyone's got to remember that this Knicks trade was for the future and not this year.If your a realistic Knicks fan(like I am) you really shouldn't if expected to win anything this year. All I expected was a playoff seed anything after that was extra. Now like with the Heat, Amare,Melo, and Billups are still trying to learn how to play together with Billups being injury for a a nice portion, while one of other two have a good game with the other person being non-existent for a game. The biggest problems other than that is they need a big man,and they gotta get rid of there D-League bench if they want to get anywhere.

My bad thought, it was 3-1 (Hawks page on Facebook is dumb) it's actually 2-1

and as a Hawks' fan, I must agree that Zaza was acting like a pussy last night

Don't start making excuses for your team, they're playing terribly.:) What the hell is going on with Turk, it's like he reverted back to his Raptors self.

Nothing is wrong with Turk. It was a media meme that elevated his status in the 09 playoffs (seriously, look his numbers up. He wasn't any better than he was the previous year), after which he was given a really dumb contract. He's also 32 years old.

In short, he is who he is - an aging player who was already severely overrated.

You think Howard or Dirk is going to lead their teams to the promised land?:) At least the Bulls are winning their games. Honestly though, I'm beginning to think that Durant should be MVP, he's been playing out of his mind.

Yeah, I always thought he was a bit overrated, but he seemed to fit in well with the Magic, he just seems out of sync with the team since the playoffs started.

I still think the Knicks will get the worst end of the trade, depending on how the draft picks turn out that they gave up.

I totally agree, docvinh. The Knicks now have two all offense and no defense players, plus an aging PG. At least with Stoudemire and young players they had roster flexibility. I don't see how they can make a legitimate run for Chris Paul, unless the new CBA is player friendly. Even if they did, they'd still be dreadful defensively.
