2010-2011 NBA Season Thread
I totally agree, docvinh. The Knicks now have two all offense and no defense players, plus an aging PG. At least with Stoudemire and young players they had roster flexibility. I don't see how they can make a legitimate run for Chris Paul, unless the new CBA is player friendly. Even if they did, they'd still be dreadful defensively.
This is why next year they will make a serious run at getting D. Howard
Everyone's got to remember that this Knicks trade was for the future and not this year.
And what future is that? One where they have two guys who play no defense, but want the ball on every offensive possession? One where they have no valuable draft picks? One where they either have no point guard or a point guard that is ancient and missed a bunch of playoffs games? Yep, their future is so bright, Dolan's gotta wear shades.

Well the people we gave up are just roleplayers.Chandler we were going to get rid of anyway so that wasn't a lost,Galinari played the same position as Melo so that wasn't a lost, and Felton was good but he was mostly a product of the D'antoni system.None of these players were going to do anything if you ask me.Tell me Denver got the better deal when they get to the conference finals, which Melo did do with that team.

Always finding ways to contribute, eh? :D

Horrible game today though, but we got the W so its all that matters. Can't wait for the second round.
Soooooooo Knicks trade haters the team that apparently got the way better deal is being swept by OKC. Just hanging it out there.
See photo above. :D :D

i agree

=sigh= how many times will atl just win meaningless 1st rounds just to get dominated and swept in the 2nd

Well, you could argue that Melo got bounced in the first round without the team.:)

Well I didn't expect them to win the series even before all the injuries. Not going to make excuse's though.Celtics were the better team,we had the chance to take two games but couldn't close them out in the first two.

You guys had those, but Doc came through with pretty brilliant plays and stole them from you.

Seriously Van Gundy? After Turkoglu killed the possession late in the game in game 3 you draw up a play for him with 10 seconds left in game 4. And as expected he loses the ball and has to force up a bad shot. :bomb:

I'll pound some cold ones in celebration when his fat ass gets fired after this series.

who could be the mysterious player x?

a couple of excerpts:

Garnett is a punk and a coward. I know, I know. Easy for me to say behind this column. Don't worry, I'll tell him to his face, too. And I'm not the only one who thinks that: If you're not on his team, chances are you hate the guy. You can learn a lot about him by watching his eyes. If he's talking to you -- and he's always talking -- he avoids eye contact. My advice to other guys in the league: Stare him down, and he'll retreat. From what I've seen, he'll never mix it up with a player who's bigger than he is. Personally, I think he's scared to fight -- like a playground bully who barks but doesn't bite
Pretty much truth

The Lakers aren't as good at it, but the defending champs have an edge over most other teams because Kobe can talk with the best of them while he lights you up and Ron Artest is just weird. One reason he's a great defender is he'll get way too close and whisper in your ear.
LOOL

Want to get to "The King" and some other prime-time players? Here's one man's go-to material: Drop a "you're riding coattails" on LeBron or remind him he bailed on the Cavs to buy a ring. Mention Dwight Howard's J -- or lack of one; it never fails to piss him off. Call Kobe a fake Jordan. (Just beware you may get posterized for the rest of the game.) Don't bother with Tim Duncan; dude can't hear a thing and never gets rattled. But feel free to remind Tony Parker that "Eva is fine"; wives are over the line, but not exes. Tell Pierce his one ring was all luck. Then have one of your bigger guys step to KG.
not surprised on Duncan or Pierce

Probably. KG strikes me as a player I would intensely dislike if he didn't play for my favorite team. It's all about the laundry though.
Don't start making excuses for your team, they're playing terribly.:)
I am not making excuses. Our team has been ice cold shooting (outside Howard and Nelson) and defense is non-existant outside Howard. As for your team, your team looks pretty bad too. I was just bitching about pussy NBA ball.
This is why next year they will make a serious run at getting D. Howard
That's laughable. CBA will tie Knicks hands even more since they dumped millions in just Amare and Melo. They will have zero chance at Howard or Paul.

Just wanted to state Turkoglu had a good look on the shot. He just bricked it like he has done all series. I never understood why we took him back.

Van Gundy has to go.

He had a good look, but was off balance after having to rush it. He should have given it to Arenas after he got it back.

They really should have drawn up the final shot for Arenas since he was the only one other than Howard making anything in the 2nd half.

Hey, we're up 3-1, not down 1-3.:) Yeah, I definitely don't see Howard leaving, I could be wrong though. I think it's possible they make a push for Paul, but I don't think that really is what the Knicks need.

A point guard is one of the Knicks major needs unless Toney Douglas can improve since he's so inconsistent, and Billups has about 1 year left in him.

Toney Douglas is a Shooting Guard. He doesn't have the playmaking ability/ball handling skills to be a Point Guard.

Maybe that game four loss was the best thing that could have happened to the Mavs. They crashed the boards, got tons of second chance points, and they played really solid defense.

The stat line might be skewed in areas like the FT disparity, but Dallas earned that tonight with their play. Dirk and Chandler made their living in the paint and it showed.
Not really a surprise with the Grizzlies since they aren't the usual 8th seeded team.
Yeah, the Spurs are just too old, and Richard Jefferson has pretty much been a bust for them.

Magic will fail in the playoffs until they get a gameplan that isnt "have howard dunk 5 times in the first half. jack a bunch of threes, contested or not, for literally every other possesion of the game."

Magic playing MUCH better so far tonight. Probably too little too late though.

up 26-11. J.J. Redick is on fire. 5/5 from the field with 11 points off the bench already.
Yeah, the Spurs are just too old, and Richard Jefferson has pretty much been a bust for them.
Only 15 wins seperated 1-8 in the west. Much more pronounced gap in the east

Well, that ass kicking was just what the Magic needed to have any chance of coming back--especially to do it with only 8 points from Howard.

Hopefully that will give them some confidence going into to game 6 in Atlanta Thursday night. If they can pull that out I like their chances in game 7 at home.

It was nice to see the rest of the team finally showing up. Hopefully, they bring this style of play so we can win the next two.
I will stand by my prediction, the magic will knock out the bulls in Rd2 :)
It'll only make the Celtics' road to the finals that much easier though. :D
Bulls > Howard + threes
howard+ threes> rose + ....

damn all i see on the bulls is rose:lol:

edit: not trying to hate on the bulls, just really believe that rose doesnt have enough talent around him to win a title. as a cavs fan, i've seen this one man show story one too many times.

I can't speak to whether or not Garnett is actually a coward, but:
1) It'd be pretty stupid of Garnett to actually fight someone on the court, considering the consequences.
2) Publicly calling someone a coward behind an anonymous blog. Classy.
3) Considering Garnett is like 6'13", how many players are bigger than he is?

All I can say is that he's pretty good at messing with opposing players:

Garnett_biting_gif_medium.gif

6'13? the hell? height has nothing to do with shit he still wont mess with anyone who barks back cause hes a bitch, I've seen it happen plenty of times to know so. That pic doesnt mean a damn thing considering at much the league trashes on Howard to begin with its wise for him to just ignore the child in his ear.

With that being said ill still root for the trashtics as much as i don't want to just so they can knock out cryami.

If Memphis loses this its the most obvious case of giving a game away and intentionally losing just to win at home ever witnessed

yup definitely cant win now that refs are making sure spurs wont lose

Um no are you? Memphis could have easily put this game away oj mayo ran into the backcourt and ginobli followed but stopped defending leaving him wide open to just heave the ball in the air. not intentionally fouling twice (even when duncan actually had the ball at one point and wasn't even looking to shoot wrap him up and send his ass to the line) only to get burned by 2 miraculous 3 point prayers Derek fisher style. so yeah how about actually watching the game next time. not like spurs are winning this series anyway

lol. you shouldn't even be allowed to watch basketball. the easiest way to throw a game is to miss free throws. Not to hope the opposing team hits a three with 1.7 seconds left. It's not like they didn't have multiple chances to miss a free throw.

There are probably lots of things he shouldn't be allowed to do (reproduce, use scissors, eat with a fork without wearing a helmet), and watching basketball is pretty far down the list.

Good job on not being able to read the reasons i provided on how they could have put this away without even being put into a posistion to go into ovetime but i guess thats your trademark CAG trait you seem to possess it seems. i didnt believe it when people said it but i guess its true

and pitfallharry your not even worth responding to homey. ill just remember to put you on that list of people that like to start and talk alot of shit on the internet from the comfort of their own home and prefer to keep it that way. just stick to using witty comebacks from fresh prince of bel air and youll do fine.

dude, you think the grizzlies tried to throw that game to win at home.

But what person in their right mind throws a game by making 2 clutch free throws to make it a 3 point game w/ 1.7 secs left.

Are you even listening to yourself? How does that even make sense?

Randolph said fuck this I'm going to win this game and made a clutch basket and 2 free throws in under 20 seconds.

6'13". Bigger than him. Get the point? No? Yeah, thats right, it went flying right by you. Punk-X said that Garnett only picks on people smaller than him and won't mess with people bigger than him. With Garnett standing somewhere around 7', that doesn't leave many people that he's smaller than.

Thirdrose showed his work. How about you do the same? I'm so tired of everybody trashing KG just because they don't like him. Dude plays hard EVERY minute of every game he's on the floor. Most people are just jealous that he isn't on their team. He's one of the best TEAM players in the NBA and could make just about any team infinitely better by simply being in the locker room. You wish he was on your team, admit it.

That game killed me as a Grizz fan. Anyway I still have a ton of confidence in them as we've played very well at home so far. I hope they don't feel too much pressure though, just got a ticket to Friday's game and I'm gonna go as crazy as I possibly can for them.

I agree that they should have run something in the backcourt and thrown the ball up in the air, but making 2 free throws and making it a 3 point game is hardly throwing it away. Z Bo tried to end it, the Spurs got insanely lucky. (With some really bad D on Neal with that last shot, but it was still a one foot fallaway 3)

It's crazy to think that if that Ginobili shot were actually a 3, Grizz would have a last second shot instead of that crazy ending. And it probably still goes into OT, but a loss like that just hurts.
