2010-2011 NBA Season Thread
That game killed me as a Grizz fan. Anyway I still have a ton of confidence in them as we've played very well at home so far. I hope they don't feel too much pressure though, just got a ticket to Friday's game and I'm gonna go as crazy as I possibly can for them.

I agree that they should have run something in the backcourt and thrown the ball up in the air, but making 2 free throws and making it a 3 point game is hardly throwing it away. Z Bo tried to end it, the Spurs got insanely lucky. (With some really bad D on Neal with that last shot, but it was still a one foot fallaway 3)

It's crazy to think that if that Ginobili shot were actually a 3, Grizz would have a last second shot instead of that crazy ending. And it probably still goes into OT, but a loss like that just hurts.
It was a tough loss. All the mistakes they made I saw as a result of being young and inexperienced, not because they were trying to throw the game.

You give Neal that same 1 legged shot, he makes maybe 2 out of 10. Spurs got really lucky and will be ready to go fishing after game 6.

The East sucks.

I was going to just ignore this whole thing with renique but guys come on now.

There are very few places in the world in which being very tall is average and the NBA is one of them. KG is like 6' 10 the average height in the NBA is like 6 foot 8. I am sure NBA players are not shaking in their boots from a guy 2 inches taller then them.

Also, I am sure even though players like Sebastian Telfair survived his apartment complex being shot up every week and finding murdered people in the street has nightmares about messing with KG.

Lets not forget future NBA prospect Adnan Hodzic who had to hide in his basement during the night because bombs and rile shooting from the war outside of his house were going off. I am sure the first thing they told him was...."hey when you get to the NBA dont angry KG. That guy is a killer....but not the real killer like the ones who murdered your family but a fake killer like the ones that might push or shove you."

Or look no further then teammate Paul Perice, almost stabbed to death but I am sure he spends his time making sure KG isnt mad at him because he might.....punch him a couple times on the court.

Point is a lot of these NBA players come from very real backgrounds in which there lives were filled with real drama and not the MTV kind. To think that they are walking around afraid to start something with KG is simply retard and naive.

No one is afraid of KG. And I like KG its just that this conversation is stupid.

I never argued that he's feared. I was stating that Punk-X didn't have much of a case when he said "smaller than". Even still, to call someone a punk and not state a name is cowardly.

:bomb: The sucky Magic showed up again tonight.

Somehow only down 6 at the half as the Hawks couldn't make shit either and just got a ton of put backs.
Just pathetic effort again from the Magic.

I better wake up to news that Van Gundy has been fired.
Nah, they may just trade Van Gundys with TNT.

truth. no excuse to lose to a sorry ass team you demolished last year van gundy is as good as gone along with mr pringles from the new york LOLknicks

We may have just one playoff series remaining in the first round after tonight. Hopefully the first round will be over tomorrow.
Van Gundy didn't put together the team. Otis Smith has shown a willingness to spend money, but he goes after the wrong kind of guys.
Prior to Magic...
JRich (S) - 47% down to 43%
Hedo (S) - terrible but my guess a package deal to unload Vince for JRich
Anderson - packaged in the Vince trade; avg 2.9 3pt shots in NJ to now 5.9 3pt shots; note guy is 6'10... IOW he shouldn't be shooting 3s.
Arenas (S) - 39.4% down to 34.4%; one bad contract for another (Lewis); had a hole for a backup PG
QRich (S) - 43% down to 34%

On paper this team should be able to perform but lets be real... Van Gundy is the one who sets up the "plays", not Smith; Those plays are top of the key pick and roll and clear out/dump to Howard; that's it. We don't run screens, we don't allow others to slash (let alone be the lane). These are all Coaching decisions, not Management.

Otis' only blame is these crazy contracts we have locked in. Beyond that... these guys have the talent, they just aren't able to showcase that talent due to atrocious, juvenile playcalling.

Like Dmaul, I hope I see Van Gundy fired by morning.

Yeah, the personnel the Magic have should be performing much better than they are.

The offense (or lack there of) Van Gundy runs just stinks. They lit it up in Game 5 party because they just shot a bit better...but they still only shot 42% or so. They played better as Howard was in foul trouble so they had to run a lot more pick and rolls, screens etc. to get their shooters open mid range jumpers. Guys like Arenas attacked the basket.

When Howard is in the game the offense too often reverts to dump to him, watch him try to score (and still turn it over too often) and kick out for 3's if he gets doubled. There's no reason they can't still be running a lot of screens and pick and rolls for the shooters when he's in. Especially some one like Bass who has a great mid range jumper and can easily get open for it--he could fill a Horace Grant type roll for the team if they'd call his number more. And there's no reason they can't pull Howard out of the paint more often to open the lane for drives by Nelson, Richardson, Arenas etc.

Just shitty coaching.

Personnel wise I'm mostly happy with the roster. Turkoglu and Arenas are the only ones I'd rather have not gotten/to ditch this offseason. But they have huge contracts so we're stuck with them.

But otherwise, I'm pretty happy if they went with a starting line up of Howard, Nelson, J. Richardson, Bass and Anderson. Put Turkoglu on the bench and see if he does better playing fewer minutes. With Redick, Q. Rich and Arenas/Duhon as the other key bench players. The only clear gap is a true back up for Howard now that Gortat is gone. Maybe Earl Clark or Daniel Orton will progress into that.

So mostly, IMO, just a matter of getting a better offensive coach who'll run more, will put a lot more screens, pick and rolls, guard iso drives etc. into the offense.

One name that jumps to mind off the top of my head is Rick Adelman since the rockets canned him. Though I'd rather go for some younger, offensive minded assistant coach who could maybe fire the team up more. No ideas on that as I don't pay much attention to assistant coaches.
Cant believe this idiot stern wants to make it legal to grab rebounds in the cylinder.
Its him trying to solve the horrible reffing problem by eliminating the work they do. If it becomes legal, its only 2 seasons until we're practically watching volleyball.
Did they really just eject pierce for setting a hard screen? What the fuck. Bullshit.
Agree 100% wtf?

I may not like the celtics but they treated pierce like bullshit wasnt even a hard screen to begin with wade was the one jumping into him like he was Shao Khan
Abc
Hmm. That's weird. When I was channel surfing the guide it said the news was on or something. Sucks I missed it.

Even though that hard screen tech was a horrible foul call, Pierce was playing on borrowed time...

Should've been ejected for head-swiping Jones.

Naw dog, the C's just got their ass beat nothing more nothing less. At no point did it even look like the C's were going to win so cut that fix is in shit out. Down by 15 by half and never lead (I am pretty sure) after....no...C's just got out played.

Now as for the ejection....C's get away with murder in most games so eventually its going to catch up to you. KG tripped a guy during a screen as series which won you the game......it goes both ways got to take the good with the bad.

Although I am pretty sure its reported that it was something Paul SAID that got him another T not the screen itself.

Agree. We didn't try hard enough to win that game.

And yeah, Crawford tech'ed him for "verbally taunting". It was a BS call, as that shit happens in every game ever.

Now again lets not have the very important fact forgotten...it was a DOUBLE TECH it was no a I am just going to crap on the C's here.

Perice already had a tech which resulted him in having 2 which is a auto ejection, Wade ends the game with 1.

Was it a crappy call? Maybe, at the very least it can be argued but it was a completely FAIR call through and through.

Fair has nothing to do with it when the referees decide to interject themselves in a game. That entire call, double technical included, was bullshit. Pierce set a hard pick, Wade lowered his shoulder, the two had words. Separate them and lets play this game out. Double techs are the biggest crock of shit.

As someone who isn't much of a basket ball fan and casually watches some playoff games, I just want to say that I'm glad the Kings are sticking around (for now). Hopefully the city can get their act together and get a new arena approved this year.

Not sure what was said but that was just a hard screen. The technical was crap but still, if the NBA wants a Lakers-Heat finals I'm all for it - anyone but the Celtics.

Is there really anything that can be said in that situation that should be worth a technical? It's playoff basketball man. You can't make that call in a playoff game!!! lol but in all seriousness, I get it, pierce shouldn't have even put himself in that situation with a tech already, but give me a break. You can argue both those double technicals could have and maybe should have been flagrants against Miami.

The James Jones one should have been a flagrant. It could have been one if Pierce didn't wipe his forehead on his cheek after the play. Jones went down on his head. Should have been the first call. Pierce acted a fool on that one and deserved a technical.

The second one was just a hard screen. The jawing afterward was just that, talk. They called the double tech on the talking. Apparently they used profanity towards each other and that was the cause. I want to blame it being on broadcast TV for that one, but the whistle should have never blown really.

Yeah but most teams with mutlipule superstars do. I rarely see KG without PP right next to him and Allen usually isnt far away. Same goes with Josh Smith and Joe Johnson.

Also, how about this....you are suppose to be a veteran fucking player how about not head butting someone or talking junk 2 feet from the ref. KG who is considered one of the worst shit talkers and dirtiest player doesnt get ejected that often. Perice lost his head twice (in very visual ways) and got called on it both time. Period. Plus please remember you were getting crushed the entire whether he was in there or not. It was 7min left in the 4th. Give me a break here. Refs have been crappy for a long time now there is no surprise that someone gets a tech for head butting or for cussing in front of the ref.

Anyway the game is over what you C's fans should be talking about is why your team was so out played in the first place. Rondo played god awful, KG 8 points? No free throw attempts? Weak as hell.

First: fuck LEBRON, THE heats, AND THE LEBRANDWAGON FANS.

Anyway: ALL YEAR, my friends have called me "negative" and "a bad fan" because i've all year said that the Bulls simply CANNOT beat teams with nevermissathree players. While earth was saying Bulls in 4, I was saying Bulls will be lucky to win in 7. Jeff Teague, Jamal Crawford, and Joe Johnson are all three point sharpshooters. I don't think the Bulls more than two games in this series.

THE BULLS CANNOT WIN AGAINST THREE POINT SHARPSHOOTERS. BOTTOM LINE. It's been the story all year, and i've been rideculed for saying it. Game 1 loss is season over in my opinion. Especially since Rose is now (likely) missing the rest of the playoffs on that turned ankle.

I'M CALLING IT RIGHT NOW: NBA is gonna get exactly what they want. "WTF" teams Atlanta and Memphis will go to the conference finals. Hawks will be swept by the heats, by at least 15 points in all four games. Grizzlies will take the Lakers to six, in all close games. Then in the NBA Finals, heats in 5. 3 Miami blowout wins, 1 close Miami win, 1 overtime Lakers win. Beginning of the heats dynasty, and an even bigger takeover of the LeBrangwagon fans.

fuck everything.

told you so?

true, but I also said that the chicago roses aren't winning a title or coming out of the east for that matter.

side note: is it only me that thinks matt barnes has an annoying face that you would just love to punch

I'm guessing you'll probably be wrong about that too.:) Yeah, something about Barnes irritates me too, makes me want to kick him.

The league did a lot of fixing for the fouls in this game today. James Jones tech was rescinded but he was given a Flagrant 1 foul on the play. There's two points. JO's flagrant was downgraded, there is 5 points (2 on the foul and a 3 from Bibby with the possession. With as shitty as we played, if it were called right, it'd have been way closer than the score was.

And just because the one consistency the referee's have had is being consistently horrible at their job doesn't mean we should find it okay that they aren't competent at their jobs. If I made as many mistakes as they did at my job in one day, I'd have been fired a long fucking time ago. I'm willing to be your job is the same way.

Also, after those fixes, Paul Pierce STILL wasn't given a flagrant for the "headbutt" and wasn't suspended for it either. Want to know why? BECAUSE IT WASN'T A HEADBUTT! The refs actually got that call completely right, which is, sadly, surprising.
