2010 World Cup Netherlands vs Spain

Yep, I don't understand "the game" because in America, we don't celebrate 3rd place matchups unless it's for high school events or below!

Getting 3rd place in the World Cup is actually a big deal and, if you watched it, you'd realize that it was one of the more exciting matches of the tournament. It's refreshing to see the players go out and perform without the amount of stress that they'd normally face in a Finals match.
This is exactly why Ian Darke said that the only people boo-ing are the ones who don't understand the game.

That's fine and all, but again - seems unbalanced to have one team get penalized immediately and the other maybe pay for it the game after.

But neither here nor there.

Why are you trolling this thread? And besides, if USA made it to the 3rd place game, a hell of a lot of people "in America" would be celebrating it.

I just watched this show on ESPN that had all the highlights of the World Cup in it. I think its called the Winners Bracket. So basically Americans think that the best thing in the world cup was Donovan's stoppage time goal against Algeria. I think if you were to poll the whole world and ask then they would definitely say that "Van Bronckhorst's goal" was the best.

Think of it like the Olympics and the Bronze medal games etc.

If Germany actually care they wont be resting half their starters
If Germany actually care they wont be resting half their starters
true, but there were a lot of injuries.
If Germany actually care they wont be resting half their starters
The usual starters weren't just kicking back because Germany thought today's game was an exhibition.

Podolski - flu
Lahm - flu
Gomez - flu
Klose - back problems
Schweinsteiger (played) - hamstring issues

Hell, even the manager (Löw) had a bit of the flu during the time of the game.

its a shame, cause as much as I dislike the Germans (for obvious Dutch-German rivalry reasons) I would've liked to see Klose get the record from Fat Ronaldo.

Speaking of the Brazilians: I wonder how much criticism Dunga is under now for not taking "Fat Ronaldo" (who had a great season in Brazil), or Ronaldinho and a few other well known superstars to the World Cup. Brazil just wasn't the superpower it usually is during the tournament, and that was evident in the game against North Korea.

It is officially the final day of the World Cup. After today's game, everyone can start trading in their vuvuzelas for some samba drums cause that's what we get to look forward to in 4 years. Man I really miss hearing the game's atmosphere that each individual nation brings to their games in the World Cup.
I really hope that the Netherlands wins it, but sadly enough I don't feel too confident. Then again I was in disbelief that we were able to defeat Brazil after being down a goal. It is sad that a Dutch legend like Johan Cruyff is even remarking that he feels Spain is going to win. I wonder how much jealousy is affecting his bold opinions, since he himself was never able to do it at the height of his career, and God forbid someone else becomes a bigger player than he ever was.
Go Holland!

My favorite part of today's game is that one of these countries with a rich soccer tradition is going to take home their first cup. As nice as it is to see a scrappy underdog pull off a win, I think it's more satisfying to see a long-deprived team get their first win.

Here's hoping it's the Netherlands.

Tough game with neither team conceding an inch. The Dutch should really be playing with 10 after Dejong got a yellow instead of a well deserved red for that Karate kick.

It's raining yellow cards! First half was very back in fourth with possession. I just really hope Holland wins the cup. I can't stand Spain.

The Dutch are going to lose players to reds if they keep this up. I'm very annoyed that the game is going like this. If the Dutch go a man down they are done. Van bommel isn't smart enough to stop tackling so carelessly so I feel like he is going to mess it up for the Dutch.

What the hell. Ref didn't even see the play to call a foul, then gives a yellow card after Villa rolls around on the ground.

That's what the linesman is for. The Dutch deserved every card they've gotten. It's a damn shame that they played well to get here, but right now they're playing ugly and dirty. For all that, it's also a shame that they've come closer to score.

True, but the ref didn't confer with the linesman that I saw, and the foul wasn't card worthy IMO.

Made worse by Villa rolling around like he'd been shot, and bouncing up like nothing happened after the card was given.

That kick to the chest was awesome! It was the greatest thing I've seen this entire tournament.

However, I thought the rest of the game was incredibly boring and I'm not sure if I'm going to watch any of the second half (I mowed the lawn instead). I feel like I gave the sport more than a fair chance, but it's clearly not for me. There's been way too much bad acting and why the refs are putting up with this crap is beyond me. These guys are clearly the worst actors ever to walk the earth.
(Isn't there a rule against rolling on the grass like a fucking idiot?)

I can't recall the last time I saw a match that had so many blown one on one chances. A couple have been good/lucky saves, but several have just been weak efforts.

While most of the cards the Netherlands has received they have deserved, that last one was utterly pathetic. I don't think he even touched the guy on the challenge.

wow, and it was right around the keepers hands.
I was really hoping for this to be decided on kicks like last time, those were exciting.

Congrats Spain
Netherlands = Buffalo Bills
as a Bills fan :cold::wall::fridge::headache:

never seen so many yellows in my life. Man i love Futbol, but can they quit the fucking acting. People say the dutch were dirty...well Spain was no better. It was an ugly game and happy to see someone win.

Little tid Bits around the world regarding World Cup faces we've seen(just because im bored as hell right now:

*US Coach Bob Bradley being considered as a Manager for Fulham FC otherwise known as The Cottagers
*Luis "handball" Suarez considering a Premier League move away from Eredivisie Giants AJAX
*Bastian Schwiensteiger will play for Bayern Munich of Bundesliga but will listen to offers from other teams.
*SAF(Sir Alex Ferguson cools talk on Wesley Sniejder transfer talks from Inter
