2013 MLB Discussion
I thought that deal was only for 3 years, which we are nearing the end of.
They got 11 more years on that bad boy.

So is Buchholz throwing a spitter or what?
So is Buchholz throwing a spitter or what?
Yes.
I have no idea, but I hate the Red Sox, so I say yes.

No. This is the stupidest non-controversy I can remember in a while. If the Blue Jays thought that Buchholz was loading up, they would have asked the umpire to check him. Teams do this frequently.

This is media people bitter that their team is under-performing and trying to get their names in print. And it's working.

I've been watching Buchholz his whole career, he is throwing only one thing now that he wasn't when not pitching to his potential: Strikes.

Edit: What annoys me the most about this is that once his numbers come back down to Earth (which they have to sooner or later), idiots are going to claim it's because he got busted and had to stop cheating. He just had a month to rival Clemens or Pedro in their primes, and these petty assholes are trying to cheapen it for him.

I just love that it is the Blue Jays calling people out for cheating. Spitter bad, but putting people in the outfield with binoculars to steal signs is cool.

To be fair, nobody on the actual team has said a thing about it that I've heard, in fact I think Gibbons distanced himself from it. This is just idiot homer tv and radio guys trying to cause a stir or get in an opponent's head.

It's getting traction because it was Jack Morris who said it. If it was, say, Mark Grace or Hawk Harrelson, nobody would care.

Jack Morris is an idiot who doesn't know how a spitter works. The idea of the foreign substance on a spitter is to loosen the grip, creating less backspin which makes it appear to dive dramatically from the batter's perspective. Nothing Buchholz is throwing this year resembles the action on a spitter. Using a sticky substance like rosin to get a better grip is something pretty much every pitcher does. The legality of it really just depends on what the substance is.

Crisco. Bardahl. Vagisil. Any one of them will give you another 2 to 3 inches drop on your curveball.

hahahahahahahahahaha...

Man, Nats fans are in a HUGE tizzy over Harper's ejection. And anyone who understands why he was ejected is a Nats hater/Orioles troll.

Not a Nats or Orioles fan (don't own him in any fantasy leagues, either), and that ejection was garbage.

I'd like to see what Harper was doing. The camera showed the umpire, who (a) was wearing his emotions on his sleeve (I despise Harper, but it was evident that Hirschbeck couldn't wait to throw him out of the game) and (b) should show a bit more discretion/hesitancy to throw someone out from 120 feet away.

It's hard to say one way or another without seeing what Harper did, but Hirschbeck is sorely lacking in professional decorum from where I see it.

Harper threw his hands up in the hair (showing the umpire up) and then he tossed his helmet and bat (further showing up the umpire). He was wrong, but shouldn't have been tossed from the game. Some umps just seem to be on power trips these days.

Angel Hernandez has long had a reputation for his hair trigger on tossing dudes from games.

In a classic moment, if you haven't seen this, it's brilliant. If you have, it's worth watching again:

"You're here for one goddamn specific reason!"
"What's that, Earl?"
"TO fuck US!"

Halladay to the DL, fucking finally. He can stop costing us games now, especially against shit teams.
Halladay has been a great thoroughbred, but its time to put that horse out to pasture.

Much as I have complained I was thinking of buying MLB.tv. So I see there is Premium and plain MLB.tv. Premium includes At Bat, but I already have At Bat. If I buy plain MLB.tv will I still have At Bat or do I lose it? Anyone done this?

I don't see why you'd lose it, but I can't say for sure.

As someone who had basic for a few years and then switched to Premium, I do feel it's worth the extra $20. Not just the ability to stream on PS3/360, but being able to watch home/away feeds.

Definitely agree with this.

Joel Hanrahan is such a useless piece of crap. Coughs up the lead and then conveniently he's "hurt" again. If he never pitches another inning in a Red Sox uniform, it'll be too soon.

Oooh. I didn't realize there was a difference (aside from At Bat). I guess that answers that question. Thanks!
If the Cubs trot Marmol out to pitch one more time in a close game I think I'm going to scream.
Perhaps Pirates and Red Sox can work something out...

It's too bad Bailey got hurt. He was pretty effective until then.

That's Bailey's career in a nutshell.
Holy shit Harvey. Can't believe I seriously considered sitting him out because of Cellular Field.
Hopefully the Mets will score in their half of the 9th. He's at 105 pitches, so I can't see him coming back out in the 10th. He's pitched way too well for them to hang him with a ND.

Braves are too good, couldn't bring myself to watch the game tonight (esp. after they scored three runs in the top of the first).

Reds win in the bottom of the night offa back to back homers from Devin Mesoraco and Shin Soo Choo.

We gotta keep Choo next year, get rid of Bruce, and bring up Billy Hamilton.

Who's the third outfielder in that scenario? Ludwick, Heisey, Paul?

Oh, I haven't thought that far ahead.

Choo's OBP is incredible, and Bruce's impatience put him at 40 K's and 1HR this past April. Time for him to go. Billy Hamilton is gonna blow fucking minds, and adds CF skill that Choo lacks. While Choo is excellent, he's made a couple of blunders in CF that just shouldn't happen (or perhaps happen with such frequency) at the MLB level.

Keep them all, I say! I'm not so knowledgeable to know whose contract is up next year, other than Choo being a 1-year contract to buttress the need to get rid of Drew Stubbs (good fucking riddance) and Hamilton needing a bit more seasoning in MiLB. The way Choo is playing, I want to see him next year and not Bruce. Bruce swings at fucking everything, and that hasn't changed in the past, so I see no reason to believe it'll change in the future.
Harvey doesn't deserve a ND.

Hope Happ is OK. Was he unconsicous at any point?
It didn't look like it and he was conscious when they carted him off but the blood coming out of the ear is the most concerning part. I hope it's just from a ruptured eardrum as opposed to a skull fracture or bleeding of the brain.
Holy shit Harvey. Can't believe I seriously considered sitting him out because of Cellular Field.
That would have been a huge boner, since he pitched at Citi Field. And the White Sox have been one of the worst teams in baseball against RHP.

Choo definitely is not a long term answer @ CF. He should be a corner OF and likely will be again next year, regardless of where he ends up.
And ESPN will still think they are the best team in the league
I promise you intelligent Red Sox fans found that just as ridiculous as non-Sox fans did.

Yeah, I know, haha. I mean, yeah, it's ESPN, but I figured their "experts" had some common sense. Thank god for the MLB Network (except Harold Reynolds).
