Taveras crushes his first major league hit so damn hard over the wall that it begins raining in St. Louis.

The Baseball Gods are crying tears of joy.

I'm glad MLB.tv is working today because I couldn't get it to work for shit last night.
PC, console, Roku...?

I've never had a problem with it.

I did cancel my monthly membership today though before I get billed again. Hoping they have a Father's Day special like they always tend to do every year around this time.

I couldn't get it to work on my tablet or PC last night. I didn't try on any of my game systems. I did a Twitter search and I wasn't the only one having trouble.

I'm really liking what Tommy La Stella has shown since he got called up this week. He's already an improvement at 2B over the three-headed beast comprised of Uggla, Pena, and Pastornicky. From what I've heard, he might be a defensive liability late in games, but I'll take that if it comes with him getting on base regularly.

Also, Andrelton's brother, Shae Simmons, had a nice MLB debut today. He came in after David Carpenter got into some trouble by giving up 2 runs and having the tying run on 2nd. Simmons came in and struck out Saltalamacchia for the third out.

Of course Moreland is going to miss three months. Pretty awesome that he goes down a day after kendrys signs.

I hope gallo destroys AA and shows up by July. JD said it ain't happening but he said that about Odor and he is playing quite well.

George Springer and Jon Singleton have wasted no time whatsoever. Astros are gonna be scary good here in a couple of years.

On a side note, to anyone that isn't a current subscriber, you can get MLB.TV for the rest of the season for $49.99 via this link. YMMV on if it works, but if you're not a current subscriber it's almost a guarantee. My last sub ran out June 4th, and I signed up for this discounted rate yesterday.

Oh Rangers fans, you so cwazy:

Although I'm sure that most baseball fans have read Men at Work, it's worth reading again if you have time. The section on hitters, in particular Tony Gwynn really shows how much dedication and hard work he put into his craft.

Losing Gwynn really sucks. I think my two favorite memories of him are him chasing .400 in '94 and the 2001 All-Star Game that was the last one for him and Cal. They stopped the game and had that ceremony for both of them, which was a cool moment that's, for me, probably only rivaled by when Rivera entered the game last year.

RIP Mr. Padre. One of the best hitters I've seen in about 25 years. As a Yankee fan, he was just about the only person on that '98 Padres team that worried me during the World Series that year. In that series, against a pretty damn good Yankee staff, he batted .500 and did not strike out once. And in his entire career, he had ONE 3 strikeout game...oddly enough...against the recently-deceased Bob Welch...

Greg Maddux never struck out Gwynn, and he never had more than 40 strikeouts in a season.

Nowadays, the only people who don't have 40 K's a month don't play regularly.

I heard Tim Kurkjian say Gwynn only struck out 3 times in one game once in his career, while George Springer already has FOUR 4 strikeout games since April.

Braves tweeted out these stats that Gwynn had against the big three:

Smoltz .462 (30-for-65) 1 K

Maddux .429 (39-for-91) 0 K

Glavine .312 (29-or-93) 2 K

Amazing.

fucking awesome, especially Teddy Ballgame cursing up a storm after Gwynn tells him how much he weights...

Tony Gwynn was the definition of a pure hitter to me. He was more than just a high average hitter, he had excellent bat control and knew what he had to do in each situation. If he needed to hit the ball to the right side to avoid a double play, he could do so no matter how you pitched him. If he needed a sac fly, he could do it no matter how you pitched him. If he needed a base hit to get a rally started, he could find a hole no matter how you pitched him.

There are plenty of guys that can hit for a high average, but few have mastered bat control like Gwynn did. He could tailor his swing to any situation and was never caught off guard by any pitcher. A true master of his craft that can never be measured by statistics, even if they are indeed, impressive.

Tony Gwynn was one hell of a hitter. Probably the best guy to compare him to is Wade Boggs, lucky I got to see them both play at a pretty decent level when I was a kid.

That's just because Springer is so awesome he has to strike out to give the other teams a chance to win. I hope he continues to get better. I also hope he gets to stick around in Houston for a while. With his help, we may not finish last this year.

He was one hell of a hitter. When you refer to someone as a student of the game, it means that they are a very good player and they know a lot about what they do. I think Gwynn may have been more of the Professor of Hitting. Another interesting fact, I think his career high for home runs was 16 or 17-ish, and he did that rather late in his career. He also hit something like .346 with runners in scoring position over his career. He was known to bunt with runners on first and second. Just a smart hitter and baseball guy in general.

He may not have won with the long ball, but honestly, there's not many other guys I'd rather have at bat if I'm down by 1 with a guy on 3rd in the 9th.

R.I.P. Tony Gwynn.

Oh, ESPN. Jim Bowden just wrote an article on potential packages for David Price. He said the Braves should include Sean Gilmartin in their deal for Price. However, I think the Twins might have a problem with that as Atlanta sent Gilmartin to Minnesota for Ryan Doumit last winter.

It's his evil twin Shawn Gilmartin. He even has the gotee.

The writer who covered the Rangers for ESPN Dallas died. Richard Durrett was only 38. Sucks because he seemed like a really good dude and I enjoyed reading his stuff.

I wonder how much of that was just copied and pasted from am article he probably wrote from the Winter Meetings.

Kershaw with the no hitter against the Rockies.  15 Ks.  Dominant.  Only runner reached on a throwing error by Hanley Ramirez.

Just watched Clayton Kershaw throw a no-hitter against Colorado while striking out 15. Bid for the perfect game was broken up in the 6th on a throwing error.

Brad Ausmus isn't so good at joking with the media. When asked how he deals with losses when he goes home, his response was "I beat my wife." He quickly apologized, but I bet he gets a lot shit on that one.

Another Braves pitcher to the DL (Gavin Floyd with a fractured olecranon(?)). That makes two today. Who are we, the Rangers?

I guess that does open up a spot for them to recall Alex Wood.

Marlins rookie Andrew Heany makes his ML debut, goes 6 innings and gives up only 1 run.

...And loses the game because Zach Wheeler had a complete game shutout. Ouch.

Used to love Ausmus catching for the Astros.

He's gonna get cooked for that comment.

Thanks to pitfallharry and Gavin Floyd, I learned what an olecranon is today. Thanks guys!

Paul Byrd has been filling in for Joe Simpson in the Braves booth. He's horrible. I think I'd rather listen to Big Bird call the game. Listening to the team of Chip Caray and Byrd is enough to make me switch to the Nats feed on MLB.tv.

I skipped MLB.tv again this year so I have a quick question... if I get the regular vs. premium edition it won't let me switch between home/road broadcasts right? I'd prefer to hear everything from the Reds broadcast team whether they are home and away. Is there anything else premium gives me over the regular version?

No, you don't get home/away choice with the regular version.

With the regular subscription, you can only watch on PC. The premium lets you watch on any device that supports the service (game systems, phones, tablets, smart TVs, Bluray players, Roku, etc.)

MLB.tv Premium is definitely the way to go if you own anything remotely mobile - smartphone, tablet, etc.

And obviously you own a game system if you're on this site, so there's the definite advantage there.

You can actually watch the game with home, away and radio feeds as well -- I watched a little of the Braves game the other day with the Atlanta radio feed instead of the TV announcers. It's a pretty neat feature that I never knew was there until recently.

 Paul Byrd started spitting out random facts about left-handed people during the Braves game. I tweeted about one where he said most mass murderers are left-handed and I said you don't get that kind of commentary on ESPN, and he just favorited my tweet.

I was at the Stadium last night for Beltran's game winner. Place started clearing out during the top of the 9th, but it was definitely still rocking when he hit it.
