2017 Thrift Store Thread -- Share Your Findings Here

No decent game finds again, but found Ricochet (Denzel Washington/Ice-T/John Lithgow flick) on DVD for $2.

Edit: Stopped by the same Sally’s and found a complete Chinese Chess board game (Gabriel - 1981) for $2. Played a couple rounds with my nine-year-old. It’s fun - this one’s a keeper.

$7.50...........
Last year I found a fairly decent SuperBeta deck for $5. Then, near the end of the year, I found this:

[attachment=28710:IMG_4428.jpg]

(No idea why that attached upsidedown.)

That's just half. There were a ton in the actual video section. All hometaped TV from the 80s. I grabbed as much as I could afford and took off. Of course, next time I got back there, all gone.

Unfortunately, all the rubber (giggity) on the Beta deck has gone bad, so I have to replace it. As if I needed another project.

Why the heck you buying all of those VHS tapes? Hoping to find porn? 😂
You ask a valid question, though they are Beta, not VHS. I’m into finding/trading stuff that was recorded off TV back in the day. Sometimes it’s mundane stuff, but I have found some oddball TV specials that never appeared again after when they were broadcast. Plus, old commercials, especially local commercials, are always interesting to see.

I have found VHS porn a couple of times at thrift stores though. Lol

Found these for $1 each at the local GW. The Enchanted World collection from Time-Life books (1981). 19 of 21 volumes. I need to find out which ones I’m missing. The hunt is on.

I weep for humanity sometimes. That's a fantastic find, but how could someone be stupid enough to donate it? Wow.
Where I live someone would throw it in a dumpster like that. It is sickening the stuff people throw away. I think I am known as a garbage picker in my complex, but I find some good stuff in recycle bins and outside of dumpsters. TV, vintage pyrex, shelving units, vintage solid wood furniture that can be refinished, rubbermaid bins, etc. I am a germophobe, so I only touch stuff with gloves and do not take anything that was actually in the dumpster. People leave old consoles in the recycle bins at Bestbuy, but the employees snag that stuff. I remember one year they had a NES at customer service that someone recycled.

My local thrift had a 50% off Black Friday sale. Picked up a fully working original Xbox 2005 model (Philips drive) and 5 controllers (3 of them were totaled) for $6.50 after discount.

Welp shouldve passed on these in the first pic and waited until Black Friday.....oh well $60 for the headset and $40 for AC. Everything in the 2nd pic was $25 total.

^Ouch. That's why I have a policy. I don't spend more than $30 for any one item at donation stores. They get this stuff for free and have the nerve to charge that much for it?

Im pretty sure Ive heard a couple employees say they do pay for some Target products... its not all donations. Yesterdays finds helped balance out the purchase value! Grabbed the Xbox controller for $2 and they had CODWW2 marked $10 in the case.......girl says it was half off media day.........grab one of the 12 or so $3 copies of Sunset Overdrive they had........soooo this pic for about $9

At my local Goodwill I found a 16 gb flash drive for $2, new. It's Secret Life of Pets themed, based on some fat cat. The design kinda sucks and barely fits in my USB ports, though, but eh. I could cut it down if I used the sticks much to begin with. Cashier said to another employee that they had just marked it down as it had sat for a while in the display case. Not surprised since I've seen 64 gbs for $10.

Didn't see much for games. Rift and Warcraft Battle Chest for PC, DDR for PS2 and two PS2 Guitar Hero guitars were it.

Okay Goodwill please promote the person pricing the Xbox One games! Right before I went in there I traded my $5 CODWW2 and $30 Forza7 for an N64 bundle to someone on Craigslist.

When i was still a kid, my dad threw away our expensive turntable stereo system we had because the speakers were bad and he was too cheap to buy new ones or have them repaired. He just left it on the curb.

Haven't been thrifting for nearly 2 months but this evening I randomly spotted a brand new/sealed The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD with Wolf Link Amiibo for $9.99 at the Toys section. Going to make a great xmas gift.

Oregon Trail Card Game (Complete) $2

Two nanoblock sets (Space Shuttle and Neuschwanstein Castle) $0.50 each. My 9-year-old was proud of these finds. The Castle was still factory sealed.

$6 for the DS stuff, $6 for the 5th gen Nano, and $3 for the Zippo. Nano doesnt hold a charge very well and it doesnt stay connected to my PC so I havent been able to reset it.

not an amazing find but half decent... just found a DS folio with 7 DS games Drawn To Life, Spider-Man Friend or Foe, Pokemon Ranger, Ben 10 Protector of Earth, Crash (Bandicoot) of the Titans, Nicktoons Attack of the ToyBots, and Professor Layton and the Curious Village and it also had a DS charger in there.. got it for $1.99

they had some shovelware in cases for 99 cents a game but I passed, I will have to go back though because I saw the case for Professor Layton there i'll buy that too

So I haven't posted in forever because my work/life/attempts to write again take up so much of my time now that I almost never get to go out. I went to three garage sales this year and probably stopped at thrifts less than 10 times. I had a few meh finds, nothing great. Best I had:

Zelda Twilight Princess HD (Wii U): 19.99 (Sealed, though not the version with the Amiibo) This was back in February I believe.

Mario Kart Wii K'Nex Ultimate Building Set: 3.99 (searches online seem to have this going for 70-80, though one recently failed to sell for 50 for what it's worth, don't know if the auction ended early or what though, didn't look that closely)

Motorola Roadster 2: 9.99

Decent finds, though nothing amazing. Grabbed a few cheapo games here and there too. For the most part though since selling around half of my collection a couple years ago it's hard to get excited to go out. I'm actually converting largely to digital only, which I would have cringed at 3 years ago, but with how little time I have to game, the convenience of it is a big draw. (being able to quickly switch between games, carry with me easily on Switch, switch between games when remote playing with Vita on PS4)

Just bought a Wii U System + Mario Kart 8 (sealed) + Lego Marvel Super Heroes (disc only - inside system) for $49.99 at Goodwill. This will be replacing my Wii system.

Wow, really nice find. Enjoy it. It's a fun system, especially at the price you got it for.

Yeah I'm enjoying it. What are some Wii U exclusive games to play? I bought New Super Mario Bros and 3D Land. I'm still debating if I should get Breath of the Wild.

If you don't have a Switch, Breath of the Wild is a must have. Runs pretty good on the Wii U.

Also the wind waker remake and bayonetta 2 are great games if you haven't played them yet.

In terms of Wii U games that are (almost) assuredly never coming to the Switch that are IMHO fun are Game and Wario, Itagaki's Devil's Third and the Nintendo/Atlus commercial fiasco/experiment, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. All three sold horribly, and not because of the Wii U audience numbers. They're super niche titles that never caught on with any audience but are still unique fun.

Decided to make the rounds at the local Sally’s and GW...

$0.50 CDs:
Gridlock’d soundtrack
Best of Roy Ayers
The Time - Ice Cream Castle (Jungle Love!)
Aaron Hall - Don’t Be Afraid (CD Single)

And took a chance on this puzzle from GW for $4. Complete!
