2017 Thrift Store Thread -- Share Your Findings Here

Rather unfortunate. I was going to head over to Savers when I was in Tucson tomorrow. Maybe there's not much point in doing so.

Sometimes you can catch them slipping on stuff, but it just takes the right (wrong) pricing team to over price something. Its a crapshoot but sometimes worth it to check out anyhow.

I got a sealed NES game for 50 cents when my savers opened. Those were the days. If I knew how to upload pics to cag, I would post it. Damn you photobucket!

Slowdive; I have been keeping quiet but I think it's time to stop that. I run a FAQ for RPGamer's board that has a pic hosting list. Here's the direct link to the list.. I hope you can find a solution on there. Oh and don't click the last link that says something about click to close window; It'll close your browser since on the page, that comes up in a pop up window when you click a link. ^^

a store that usually overprices their games had some sega master games loose for above ebay. looks like they are starting to learn how to price games. they lowered the master system games to $3 each after a few months so i had to clean them out.

Wish I could find SMS games at thrift stores... I still play mine regularly

Falling behind....

Sony speakers were $3 apiece, PS2 with SW Episode V inside was $8, Onyko TX-SR604 was $15, DS2 controller was $3, Performance controller was $2, Smartab and charger were $35 but its locked to a Gmail account so its probably going back, and the DSi with a DS Lite charger was $10.50

found a slim 360 at goodwill for 16 bucks; looks like its modded. This is a new one on me, no experience with the mods etc on the 360 in particular. worth it just to fool around with, dont think theres anything on that system I dont already have though lol.

Nothing today but I did see an N64 system bundle for $40. Passed on it.

I also saw a Nintendo GameCube system with 1 controllers for $20 about 3 days ago that just got rolled out to the floor. Passed on it. Came back to the same store this evening and looks like someone took out the gamecube controller and A/V cable from the bundle. Why though lol?

People steal shit. It happened with a bag of misc toys I was looking at. I set it down and someone else picked it up. When I was leaving the store about 30 minutes later, I convinced myself to buy it for the GI Joe guy in it. When I came back there was a small hole in the bag and the GI Joe guy was gone. (II may have posted this story before.)

I know a big thing even at HPB is people buy a bundle, take out what they want, then return it. It happened a lot at savers with video games. A lot of scumbags out there.

When I worked at HPB, I'd usually start my day looking for the empty cases from the DVD clearance rack where people stole the disk and stashed the empties behind the books. You ever look at HPB clearance DVDs? Dregs, just like the people who stole them.

A few years ago I found a pokemon heartgold ds game with box and everything. A kid next to me asked if I'm going to buy it. I was gonna but decided to let the kid have it. To keep it short. I found the game near the furniture section 15 mins later and it was missing the cartridge. Well I saw the kid near his parents and I was shaking my head and smiling at him. Your parents can't afford $6.

It's less that they can't afford it and more that the parents are assholes who won't buy it for their kid. I was at a yard sale a few months ago. A kid was examining a LEGO set. He asked his mom to buy it and she refused. I didn't hear how much the seller was asking. When the kid puts it down and leaves with his mom, I scoop it up and ask "How much?" thinking it will be a high price. The lady says "A dollar." That bitch wouldn't spend a dollar to make her kid happy.

Goodwill Outlet find a couple weeks ago.....

Paid 25 cents...

....

...

..

.

Found it on a Sunday morning and only few people were poking around the bins that morning. Super lucky find.

Is this a real story? Who in the world would give up a complete HeartGold to some dumb kid they don't know?

I think it's about not spoiling your kid. You can't buy every little thing he / she wants even if they are only a dollar. my parents were the same way when I was a kid. It was to make sure I didn't get a bunch of stuff I "didn't need".

Yeah it did happen at goodwill. I was going to flip it on Amazon anyway but I just can't turn down a kid man. If it was an adult asking for it, I'm buying it for sure.

You could play some of those on a Playstation TV. Just look under the short legs of tables or on stacks of papers... one's sure to turn up eventually.

Yeah I was thinking about it. I prefer the handheld though. Probably will get a used one from craigslist by the end of year. Hoping for under $100.

Yesterday- I flip through all the games and didnt get anything (saw Animal Crossing New Leaf but no disc inside). Older guy walks over and grabs like 15 games and puts them in his cart. There was nothing that great there even at $3 apiece so I assume theyre for his grandkids or something. He did have that *old guy who buys up video games but doesnt exactly know whats worth what* look to him.

Today- wasnt gonna go until later, mom and sister asked if I wanted to go.....well sure! Half Off Media Day! At $1.50 its tempting not to just buy up anything thats complete! I just went with these though. Controller is complete, $35.

Local goodwills have had some interesting stuff recently. 1-2 OG xboxs for $20,  battered ps1 slim for $20, a grey ps1 for $20 and misc ps2 controllers.

I also saw DBZ Raging Blast 2 for 360 for $7 disc was horrible shape I passed on this. I was also tempted by PS4 Infinite Warfare Remastered sealed for $20. I did pick up a few ps2 controllers for $4 each

$13- console only Wii which works just fine, a working Harmony One remote with base but no ac adapter (I keep going and looking because I dont wont to order one off Amazon yet), and a brand new Majoras Mask 3D 3DS case

SLiXTvx.jpg

$3 for the Mac keyboard and mouse, already sold for $46 on Ebay

Kodak Z760 6MP camera, with cables, booklets, and charger for $8.50. I really just needed the a.c. adapter for my Harmony One remote. South Park plush were $15 for the set. PS1/PS2 games were $1.50 apiece (half off media day), slim PS2 in the box with PS3 guitar dongle/microphone/Eye camera for $20 (I had extra cables and a controller for it), and a JVC JX-C7 video corrector box was $3.50.

Revenge of Shinobi: If you hotswap the cartridge (put in any game into the genesis, start the console, pull the cart out without powering the console off, put Revege of Shinbi in and then reset the console), you can actually come up with the "Super Shinobi" main screen. (I wouldn't recommend doing it as it's not good for both cart and console, but if you must see for yourself, here's an explanation how it's done (http://www.sega-16.com/2005/12/cart-swapping-tricks-cheating-at-your-own-risk/)).

/edit: there was actually an old feature here at Sega-16 (http://www.sega-16.com/2005/05/locked-out-importing-made-easy/) that listed a couple of games where you could access both the Japanese and the English version if you used it on a modded or regionally different console. The list of the games and the effects regarding regional differences were incolmplete, but here's what it says at the end of the article:

If you are planning to mod your system, be warned that some games will experience changes depending on whether the console is set to U.S. or Japanese. Here is a list of some of those games, and their effects:

Battle Mania 2 (Eng. & Jap; System info screen appears when both controllers are removed)
Cyberball (Eng. & Jap.; A modem option appears in the menu)
Devil’s Crush (MD) (Eng. & Jap.)
Dynamite Duke (Eng. & Jap.; Japanese version is harder.)
Elemental Master (Eng. & Jap.; Japanese version is harder.)
Fire Shark (Eng. & Jap.; Different title screen with Kanji characters.)
Flicky (Eng. & Jap.; Character’s names and game instructions are in Jap.)
Gaiares (Eng. & Jap.; Japanese text available in menu, only mentions Jap. licensee.)
Ghostbusters (Eng. & Jap.; Game plays in Japanese.)
Ghouls ‘N Ghosts (Eng. & Jap.; Different title screen with Kanji characters, start further back when killed.)
Insector X (Eng. & Jap.; Hot-B named as company, instead of Sage’s Creation. Fire rate is slower.)
Marvel Land (Eng. & Jap.; Jap. version says “for Mega Drive” or “for Genesis” Purpose unknown.)
Super Monaco GP (Eng. & Jap.; Game plays in Jap.(selectable from menu).)
Mystic Defender (Eng. & Jap.; Opening screen replaced by graphics, character sprite changes, levels have names, lightning magic is different, character named Kujaku in ending.)
OutRun (Eng. & Jap.; Attract mode loses sound, startup screen says “push,” not “press” start button, TM dates are reversed, default options are different.)
Raiden Trad (Eng. & Jap.; “Licensed to Sega” text is gone in both versions, second screen only has Jap. part.)
Revenge of Shinobi (Eng. & Jap.; Title changed to Super Shinobi, credits show at end.)
Rolling Thunder II (U.S.) (Eng. & Jap.)
Sonic the Hedgehog II (Eng. & Jap.; Tails renamed “Miles.”)
Streets of Rage (Eng. & Jap.; Title screen changes to Bare Knuckle, all text is in Jap., clock resets at bosses.)
Streets of Rage II (Eng. & Jap. Title screen changes to Bare Knuckle II, Skate is renamed “Sammy” if setting is changed after console is powered on.)
Thunder Force II (Eng. & Jap.; Title screen says “Mega Drive,” company name is Tecnosoft.)
Thunder Force III (Eng. & Jap.; Company name is spelled “Tecnosoft.”)
Truxton (Eng. & Jap.; Japanese title is Tatsujin.)
Twin Hawk (Eng. & Jap.; Title changes to Dai sen Pu Hurricane in Kanji.)
Wrestle War (Eng. & Jap.; Wrestler is blonde in Eng. version and black-haired in Jap. version.)

thank you i never knew about this. i guess this explains it since i was using a retron 3. it just easier to use it since i been playing imports than to hook up or mod all the consoles

Damn nice find with that Betamax...

Stopped by the local Sally’s after working a hot dog burn for my son’s Boy Scout Troop. No comparable finds this afternoon, but picked up the “Songs of Bond... James Bond” CD and “Revenge of the Sith” soundtrack, both in excellent condition, for $0.49 each.

Gawd, jealous of that Betamax find! I've got a houseful of stuff from Savers, but my local stores have all seemed to jack their prices up dramatically, and the quality of stock is way down too.

New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. $3.99 in case at the local thrift store, probably find of the year for me. Had a stack of other DS games and a bit of other gaming stuff, DJ Hero controller, PS3 starter Blu and another PS3 demo disc, but nothing interesting.

High Frequency (brand) Portable Game & System Cleaning Kit. Has brushes (and even the old bottle of cleaner) for cleaning out Game Boy, Lynx, Game Gear and Turbo Express systems and games. All packed in a pink plastic NES case.

Non gaming, found a pair of new Haggar blue and white striped chinos. $65 price tag on them, thrift store marked them to $14.99, but they had a green tag which was 50% off today, so $7.50. (The gaming stuff were other colors.) Always wanted to try chinos since playing GTA Online and the price was right.

Swung by 2-5 goodwills today in town. Didnt see much a few use PS2 games all non sports but nothing I needed

I saw some nasty hi-def wii cables. I did find a Wiimote and nunchuck for $5. Probably finding that OG modded Xbox this summer was my pickup of the year at thrift stores
