This post will contain a season four summary, so if you haven't seen it, don't read any further.

Yes, yes, YES! After EIGHT LONG MONTHS of waiting, 24 returns tonight!!! As I type this, we're about fifteen hours away and I couldn't be more excited. I'm sitting here watching season four to refresh my memory. I'm going to type up a season four summary and then I'm not going to check this post again until the first two episodes are over. I've managed to avoid every spoiler. I've managed to avoid (almost) every commercial. I've ignored the interviews. I've ignored the magazine articles. The only thing that I know for certain is that season five is supposed to have a bomb-tastic start.

Season Four summary:

- Chloe's friend, Andrew Page, stumbles upon encrypted internet coding.

- Terrorists come after Andrew Page.

- Jack moves to intercept Andrew but is foiled as the terrorists bugged a phone and picked up Andrew before Jack could. Jack's partner is then killed.

- Jack saves Andrew Page.

- Secretary of Defense Heller and his daughter and Jack's love interest, Audrey Reigns, are kidnapped. Terrorists threaten to host the execution on live TV. All of this ties back to a young boy, Behruiz (sp?), his mother Dena (sp?), and his father Navi. Behruiz's girlfriend finds the hideout and is killed by the mother. Navi calls someone to kill Behruiz, Behruiz finds out about it and kills him. Dena and Behruiz go on the run from Navi.

- Jack rescues Heller and Audrey. Audrey recognizes someone from the site.

- Curtis's ex-girlfriend comes in to work for CTU. She's a mole and feeds information out.

- Jack and Audrey go to an old, abandoned building to view footage from a dance or something to identify the man Audrey saw. They are ambushed. Jack realizes CTU has been comprimised. He calls Tony for backup.

- Kidnapping and internet hosted execution are just a front for a nuclear meltdown.

- One reactor melts down, killing Edgar's mother.

- Reactors are stopped.. except one. They must find the override.

- Curtis is kidnapped. Override is found. Marjuan, the mastermind behind the whole attack, kills a guard, takes his uniform and leaves the building.

- Navi takes Behruiz hostage in a basement. Jack sneaks down. Navi hears him and they have a struggle. Behruiz kills his own father, Navi.

- The nuclear reactor meltdown was just a front for a pilot, which I believe is named Mitch Anderson, to steal a stealth bomber.

- They discover this a bit too late - Mitch shoots down Air Force One, killing the president's son and severely injuring the president. The pansy president (I can't remember his name) then comes into the picture.

- Marjuan intercepts the Nuclear Football which contains codes to all the nuclear reactors in the country (In real life, if this happened, codes could be changed immerdialtely).

- Paul Reigns, Audrey's ex-husband, comes into the picture for a bit.

- Blah blah blah, boring next few episodes.

- Jack has to invade the Chinese counsel to get information on something or other. Paul is shot. Jack sacrifices Paul's life for the Chinese guy, Audrey gets pissed at Jack.

- Nuclear warhead is shot off.

- Nuclear warhead is safely detonated, but one of the members of Jack's team gave him away to the Chinese ambassador. Jack's now a wanted man.

- Jack pretends to turn on Tony and the entire CTU. They have a shootout. Jack is "shot" and "dies". Everyone crowds around. Everyone leaves except Tony, Michelle and Chloe. Tony gives Jack a shot of ephinepherin (sp?) and Jack comes back to life. Tony and Michelle wish to leave CTU. They drive Jack off. Jack calls David Palmer, who was brought in to help the pansy president because the guy can't make his own decisions.

"After you hang up this phone, for all intents and purposes, Jack Bauer is dead."

Jack hangs up and walks into the sunset to start his new life.

(It was funny to see the IMDB boards after this episode. Everyone thought that Sutherland was leaving the show).

If I left anything out of the summary, feel free to add it. I'm going to finish the last episode of season 4 again. Ahh.. I can't wait for season five to start!

Good summary, but can you really expect anything less from Scorch? I'm also extremely pumped for the next two days. This is my favorite one....- Marjuan intercepts the Nuclear Football which contains codes to all the nuclear reactors in the country (In real life, if this happened, codes could be changed immerdialtely). Anyway season 5 should be a good one.

- Blah blah blah, boring next few episodes.

(I'm going off the top of my head on this, Scorch can probably fill in the gaps)

And in this timegap Jack and Paul (Audrey's ex husband) went to some company who had ties into Marwayn (spelling?). The company didn't want to get caught so they were trying to delete whatever information they were hiding. However Jack and Paul found some information and got a page printed but one of company execs use the "fail safe" device to knock out all the electrical devices in the area.

After escaping out of the building Jack and Paul find a sport store run by a few Arab-Americans. They agree to help fend off against hitmen the company have sent to take out Jack and Paul. Jack decides to start a gunfight with them in order to get CTU's attention to where they are located. Finally after taking out most of the hitmen CTU arrives and the paper is given to them. Just as they were leaving one of the hitmen who they thought died took a shot at Jack but Paul shoved him out of the way and took the bullet.

Paul dies a few episodes later after he went into shock (I think?). When the doctors were trying to save him Jack came in with the Chinese guy who had the information they needed in Marwayn (again, spelling?). This event caused the breakup between Jack and Audrey.

EDIT: Oh I see you mentioned the last bit but somehow you thought that Paul got shot later on. Still worth posting this bit I just wrote.

I could very well imagine that it would take time for the new codes to filter through the system, so in the case of a terrorist getting ahold of the codes it still could be a major situation regardless even if they could be changed right away.

Then again, I'm far from being anywhere of an expert on the technology the government uses. For all I know they still could be using 286 systems.

I kinda wish I followed this show... just because I'd probably have some great discussions with all of you. Maybe I'll be able to give this show a look some time in the future.

Enjoy the new season! :D

Do yourself a favor and at least Netflix the first season. Trust me... you'll enjoy it very much. Far more than, say, WWE RAW.

Palmer?!

Michelle?!

TONY!??!?!!?!?!?!?

I swear if Tony is gone i'm not watching this fucking season. I was pissed abotu Palmer.. I freaked out at Michelle.. if Tony's gone.. no. fuck that.

That was insane. I can't wait till tomorrow night. Seems like for once the whole "The first 10 minutes will change everything" promise really was true.
What did the van explosion accomplish?
Distraction while they all pulled out their weapons, I think. Or a signal to start.
What did the van explosion accomplish?
I guess it was to draw attention. Or maybe they have no intention of leaving the airport. I cant wait till tomorrow.

I'm gald they killed Michelle. I didn't like her or Tony. She as weak, he was always brooding about something. Ugh.

I'm glad they kept Chloe, she, Edgar and Bill were the only people in CTU who had personalities.

I mainly watch, because Jack is such a badass.

Tony had his Cubs mug. He was doomed from the start.

God help me. I love the Cubs, too.

Now maybe the actress who plays Michelle can do something involving taking her clothes off. That sounds so juvenile.

Silliness aside, this looks to be a pretty good season. I watched last season in about two sittings like a month ago. That's really the best way. Well, maybe 6 stiitngs would be best. Let's hope there really are no breaks.

Also, I see the President's wife is that Designing Women chick. Last season they had Greg Sumner from Knott's Landing. Who's next? Monroe Ficus?

Great start. I'm glad it looks like they won't be going on with the "Jack Vs the Goverment" again. When I saw they wanted to frame him for killing Palmer I was growning a bit.

Also I don't know what it's called but I knew that they were going to kill Michelle when she went out that door. Some times writers say screw it, all these characters are going to die. Usually they do this mass kill off to force writers to come up with new ideas. Or the actors want too much money or they are unavilable for the project.

I just keep wondering when or if they will bring back Jacks's Daughter's BF Chase. I really like that character and was hopeing to see him last season.

This is really the best show on TV. I really like Lost but there isn't any bullshit to put up with when you watch 24. The writers have balls, like letting jack shoot the assasin. And Jack is such a freaking bad ass you kinda feel sorry for the people who face him since they don't stand a chance.

Once Palmer went down, I had a pretty good idea that Michelle would die also, and that Tony would live, if only cause Palmer and Michelle were listed as Special Guest Stars and Tony was listed as a regular on the show.

******POSSIBLE SPOILER**********

tv guide has said no info on chase coming back, but jack's daughter kim will be back mid season for a couple episode story arch. She will be pissed he faked his death

I've never watched the show, but I've got a question. Every hour of the show is an hour in the series. I'd assume one season would be 24 episodes making it 1 day. Does this mean only 4 days have passed on the show?

They allow the show to skip forward years at a time in between seasons. For example, this season started a year and a half after the end of season 4. So while this is only the fifth day we've seen of Jack Bauer's life, a decent amount of years have actually passed since season 1.

Four discontinuous days, yes. It's not like Season 1 was Monday, then 2 was Tuesday, etc. I'd be willing to say a few years have passed over the course of the series.

Great premiere last night. My fiancee kept attempting to make fun of me for being so entirely engrossed for two straight hours.

I watched the first half of the premiere yesterday, and it was fucking nuts. Last time I tried to watch 24, I got bored instantly, but now I'm hooking. So I am in desparate need of the first four days of 24, stat.

See, I was gonna suggest you shower at the beginning so part of the show you miss is the recap, but I wasn't positive that they would recap. But there it is.

Maybe one of you guys can set me straight....

Didn't the president ( in the previous season ) survive the plane crash; in critical condition? Is it just assumed that this character is permantely out of the picture because he's in bad shape, or did i miss an episode where he died?

Back to yesterday's episodes, it was probably the best two hours of TV I've ever seen. And these last two episodes with the hostages/treaty were completely amazing. The writing on this show is phenomenal as well as the acting. Here's to the best season of 24 yet!!

This season is off to a great start! And I'm glad to see the boy is out of peril now. I don't want him turning into this season's Kim. Where's a cougar when you need one?

Wiki: In an interview on The Charlie Rose Show dated 20 May 2005, Joel Surnow disclosed that the writers and producers had wanted to have President John Keeler die in the crash of Air Force One. However, network executives vetoed that idea and at the conclusion of the season he was comatose. The writers did have the President's 19 year old son, Kevin, die in the crash, though. In the fifth season, Keeler's vice president, who's currently the Acting President, is the permanent president for the balance of Keeler's term. It is not yet known publicly if Keeler dies or resigns.

Call me a bastard, but I was actually hoping they'd put a bullet in his head. There's still 19 episodes left, and I'm sure the kid will meddle in something he isn't supposed to before it's over.
this is the first season of 24 i have watched... and i must say

24 > everything else on cable TV
Welcome to the fold.

My fiancee is kind of refusing to watch this (never was a big fan, and is now bitter that they pre-empted Simpsons/Family Guy/etc yesterday), but: "I'm not even watching it and the music is making me nervous!"

I love 24.

I'm wondering how the Chinese are going to come into play when they find out Jack's alive. And as far as the lord of the rings dude goes all i gotta say is PO-TA-TOES

Poor Sean Astin... he goes from RU-DY to PO-TA-TOES. I'm torn on his character. I kinda disliked the current CTU chief... until Sean Astin comes in, now I feel sorry for the guy. Hopefully he turns out to have some redeeming values.

I can't say I like his character just yet. He came off too brash and looked a bit out of place. I'm also not feeling Chloe's new boyfriend. But that maybe because I dislike Chloe's character, her and Edgar were probably the most annoying thing about last season.
so... if i pick up a 24 box set this weekend... which season would you reccomend?
Season 2.
