3 Free Ubi-Soft games at FilePlanet

i'm a paying fileplanet member... i got in on a decent deal a few years abck and it still hasn't expired, apparently. it's nice to not have to wait in the lines... but with the download manager thing i don't know if that's as big of a deal as when it was all in browser, plus some of the betas and demos are pay member exclusives.... you get points towards "buying" games on their digital download system too, but i'm not too sold on that just yet

There is also F.E.A.R Combat, it's pretty much like regular F.E.A.R but with only multri player mode. I just finished downloading it and started playing it.

Wow, can't believe this! :) Hey, having ads is fine with me if we get the stuff FREE :)

I already own Farcry though, which is the only one I'd really want to play, but for free I'll try out the other two.
Thanks OP!

Off topic but is anyone a paying member of Fileplanet? Is it worth it? I know I can get most of these downloads free in other places (game patches), but I like only having to go to one location.
I don't think it is worth it. I was a subscriber once. I really didn't use it enough to be worth that much. You can just wait an extra 30 minutes in line and get the same thing.

Anyone else notice that if you use FRAPS (a program that counts frames per sec, has video/screen shot stuff too), there are no ads at all in Farcry? I haven't downloaded any other game, but this is even better WITHOUT ADs.

thanks, im downloading (waiting in line) far cry & ghost recon :)
i might download PoP later, im not sure if id like it on PC tho
so what r they u download them then how r they games? can u get achievements
lol someone is an achievement whore.

Awesome.

Do yourselves a favor and get Prince of Persia. It was one of the highest rated games from the ps2/xbox/gamecube gen. A must play.

well far cry got done downloading and i been messing around with it
only bad thing so far, is no online, because u need a cd key as said previously
and for anyone wondering, here are some screenshots of the ads
the first one is the main menu, with ads on the sides, and a "McDoanld's Free IGN Game Guide", 2nd is a video ad on a loading screen

overall, i can't complain, its free :D

on a side note, i guess mcdonalds is trying to get gamers as customers, i just noticed a ad on the side xfire's website with the same theme as the ones in far cry :)

Dunno if this has been told or not...but the Raving Rabbids for the PC and other systems is totally different than the Wii. The wii version of Rabbids is the definitive version (some games can only be played on that version as well).

Do you need an internet connection to install these?
I downloaded PoP & Far Cry, and tried to install them on my internet-less gaming pc, but when I try to install it, it asks for the ubisoft login info. I enter my info, but there is an error. Does the installer connect to the net? Is there a way to get around that?

Although it is annoying I have to see the ad every fucking time I die in Far Cry, I am realizing Far Cry is a kick ass game and I am glad I download it :D

Now this is a cool idea by Ubisoft. They aren't making shit off these games anymore so why not release them for free and make a little off of advertising. More companies should do something like this.

The only one I think I will download is Ghost Recon. When I played it back in the day I just played my brother's copy, I never had a copy myself. I freakin loved Far Cry when it came out. That was an awesome experience at the time (and still is). Far Cry is the reason why I'm so stoked for Crysis, knowing what Crytek is capable of as a developer. As for the PoP: SoT..... MY GOD that game is awesome, one of my absolute favorites from last console generation. I couldn't get into the sequels at all, the new darker tone was not needed at all and completely ruined the series for me. And for Rayman, I have it on Wii but only played it once. I can't imagine it's any fun at all without a Wiimote.

But seriously, +1 to Ubisoft for this.

That sucks. Oh well at least I got the game I really wanted to work, Trackmania, and no ads either.
If anyone is seriously playing these games then I recommend checking out my blog: http://www.twenzor.org/blog/2007/09/04/ubisoft-ad-removal/
Hmmm... thanks! Though, if I have to see a quick ad to get a game for free, I'm okay with that. (They have to get paid somehow, right?)

From what I understand, publishers are finding it harder and harder to make money off of PC games because piracy is running rampant. That's why PC versions tend to be released much later than console versions (GTA, anyone?) So, if having ads in games is one way to save (or revive) PC gaming, then I'm especially okay with that as long as it doesn't interfere with gameplay.

I will hold onto your archive though; that way, years down the line, I can play these games w/o ads when they no longer have paying sponsors.
Does anyone know how to get Ghost Recon to install? It keeps asking me for a Ubisoft account or something....

Thanks.
Go to ubi.com and reigster an account there for free ;)

Ja, I thought that was too easy. Well I guess sometimes its that easy. THANKS

though I'm a bit sad cause I bought Far Cry about a month or two ago for 10$....

Well at least you can play it online. You still need a CD key to do so.

But the ads don't update. Nor do you need an active internet connection. So they can't track how many times you see the ads. Also take note the ads do not change. They get old after you see them once.

Edit: Topic should be renamed to *4* Free Ubi-Soft games at FilePlanet.

Hmmm... interesting... Someone on Digg said the ads were being served up dynamically through the DoubleFusion network.

It uses the DoubleFusion system, but it's entirely local.

munch: You have to manually assign the controls in the settings.

How big is the Far Cry file suppose to be?? It says 2,743.5 MB but I'm at 2.32 GB right now. What's up?

I read on Gamespy (or Gamespot, forget which one) that the games won't install anymore, ubi removed the links to the files, but I have not confirmed it myself, so it may be dead (for now.) I downloaded Ghost Recon and Farcry before and they still work fine.

I hope we see more of this in the future, I don't game much on the PC anymore, but I could see myself enjoying more life from my aging computer in exchange for viewing some advertisings.

Maybe it was just a test, or just something for Labor Day?

Presumably they still work if you've already got them (?)

My brother tried installing FarCry last night and even after he got a Ubi account, he got a message saying that he had to be a resident of the U.S. to play! (We live in CA!) So, he couldn't install! Has anybody else had any luck installing in the last day or two?

Wow, that would really suck-- I downloaded all the games but with the power outages here in CA over the weekend I didn't even have a chance to think of installing them...

Way to ruin a good promotion... they should at least say "Must be installed by.."

I made an account for anyone having problems with the installer.

Username: cagfreeplay
Password: shitbox89 (I just listened to the newest CAGcast lol.)

So I follow the link, but I don't see the link to download any of those 3 games anywhere. Searches bring up nothing as well. Did they take them down?

Thanks OP!

I downloaded Far Cry yesterday. Haven't bothered trying to install yet as I'm busy with Metroid Prime 3 and Quake IV at the moment.

heh, so I downloaded Ghost Recon and tried to install it, and it says I don't live in the United States. *Checks surroundings, looks out windows, whips out drivers license* Yup, I'm in America.

Using that still gives me the must live in the US error, same as the account I made myself.

EDIT:
from fatwallet:
Members at several forums reported seeing the following message at fileplanet:

All downloaded files which have not been activated are going to be made inactive through the ubi.com login. Previously, the ubi.com login would require a US country in order to install the game. Ubisoft will make the ubi.com login reject all entries into country. They hope to relaunch the program once we can add IP-blocking into our login process.

A short time later, all four games were removed.
Might have to wait a bit and hope it starts to work again eventually.

no, just got this email from ubisoft:
"Thank you for downloading one of the promotional PC titles made available for ad-supported freeplay over the Labor Day weekend. The promotion is now closed and it is no longer possible to play the games for free.
If you are interested in further information on these titles, please visit our official website at www.ubi.com
Wow, that means i'll have to buy it. This sucks.

A promotion? How lame. FWIW, I get the same error now with my existing name and password (not the one I made for this topic). Thankfully I uninstalled Rayman, the game I cared least about. I'm currently playing thru The Sands of Time (I beat it on Xbox, and want to beat it again in high def).

Hmm I downloaded Far Cry (2 times already) and when I try to run an install file the program lags and eventually freeses.
