30" Philips HDTV $269 *DEAD*

finally got my tracking number, it's being delivered by a company called EGL (Eagle Global Logistics), never heard of them before. the tv is suppose to arrive at my house this friday.

i ordered it Friday afternoon (still processing) using my dads information for billing and had the shipping set for my moms because im there more often. i got a call from the shipping company at my moms today but for some reason my grandparents got a call too. I never gave them my grandparents phone number or anything. how did that happen!?

this thing is heavy... crt hdtv... for the price, i guess... but i rather have something that takes up less space...

i got my lcd hdtv 32" for ~350 ar black friday and still loving it... use it for pc monitor,360 gaming tv, and to watch hd movies on hd-dvd :) :) :)

cannot wait till this years black friday ;)

god tempting.... move to new apt in less than 2 months and I dunno what to buy... .argh!!! I have a 37 inch olevia for my room but i reallly need something for the living room.

If you can wait then wait for Black Friday. 32" and below should sell cheap this year I will bet that you will be able to pick up 2nd tier brand like Olevia , or Vizio for under 400 for 32" and under 300 for a 26". But this is just speculation no real info on it. However this is a Good deal right now

I already have a 30" philips crt in my personal room hooked up to HD directv and am enjoying it... but while I do need another tv (will move my crt to the bedroom to replace the 20" in there now) I am going to hold out for an LCD deal

My order has reached "Shipped" status, as of early yesterday... but I've yet to receive a tracking number or telephone call from a shipping agency.

I remember waiting longer than advertised for minea year ago. Thought I had a problem with my tv as well because when I played dvds there would be a faint purple band running vertically on the screen in dark scenes, but it was just my dvd player. Ive enjoyed it, Id rather watch standard def Dtv on it than my 61" because standard looks so bad on a big screen.

Sucker was so heavy (though not anywhere near the 34" sony CRT my friend bought)... have fun moving it

There's something weird with the credit card I used, where my available balance is void of the price of this transaction... but there was no official charge.

Weird.

That is where I am at, says Shipped, but haven't heard anything. I also had my balance taken down, but then put back in. I hope I don't get screwed.

a buddy of mine placed an order Thursday night. he mentioned tonight that it was still showing as "Processing"

should we call customer service to make sure everything is still alright?
My cousin ordered it last Thursday.
They delivered it yesterday.

Fast as hell. Sorry Brak!
Been in the same boat, but havent gotten a call yet :(

Got a call today and it is in my house right now, damn the fucker is large. Oh well need to go buy an upconverting DVD player and get another HD box from my cable company.
I have yet to receive a call or tracking number.
Mine says shipped, but nothing further. Not tracking or even how/who it was shipped.

mine was like that too, eventually you'll get a tracking number sent to you by email.

I just got my tracking number e-mailed to me (still haven't gotten a call though). What really sucks is that it's in Boston already, but the estimated delivery date is the 24th.

Wtf, mine shipped the 17th from Columbus, and today, the 19th, its still freaking in Columbus. And I only got the tracking info. Delivery date is 24th also through EGL.

hows the picture quality on the tv?

Well I just received my TV today and hauled it into my room. When I plugged it in the power light flickers when I try and change the channel but I don't get a picture, just a black screen. Is this something I can remedy or do I start with the return process....Is anyone else getting this? Thanks in advance.

(the "A/D" button on the remote) and do a channel search in the menu.

Do the same for analog mode.

I can't navigate the menus since the screen is black. Hitting the A/D button doesn't do anything either. Also I don't have an antenna so I hope that isn't really necessary.
EDIT:I should mention that the TV seems to power off when I push buttons on the remote occasionally.

~thanks

That sucks man, you might have to look into returning it then.

Ahh I was afraid that might be the case. I'll mess with it some more and see what can be done. Thanks for the fast responses in any case.

I ordered mine Monday and just got the tracking e-mail. It says 5 day shipping on EGL and it supposedly shipped Wednesday. But I'm not going to expect it on Monday since I have yet to hear from them. I don't want to be disappointed.

BTW, thanks zewone for the heads up on this deal. I'veheld out on the Phillips Outlet for so long because I don't really need a new TV and I think HD is over-hyped. But as this is a high quality screen @ 1080i and is 3 inches larger than my 15 year old Sanyo, all for the price of a SD TV, I didn't see how I could pass it up this time around.

Now, I just need to find a component cable for my GCN to do a side by side and try to convince myself that HD really is "all that". But I don't want to spend $60+. :(

EDIT: Sorry to hear about your bummer set, Scriber.

GCN is gonna look like shit on an HDTV, and won't be in HD.

There are 480p games that will look better on a HDTV.
There are 480p games that will look better on a HDTV.
Yeah, I'd just like to plug in both RCA and component cables and be able to switch between the two for a comparison. I know the GCN 480p games aren't going to be the best thing you'll see on an HD, but they are the only things I will be able to view both ways and just want to see the difference made.

EGL said my TV had been picked up on Wednesday, was in-transit from Columbus, OH on Wednesday, Friday was scanned (still in Columbus) and this morning the last scan disappeared and was replaced by a new scan (still in Columbus). These tracking things sure are wierd sometimes.

There are many SDTVs that do 480p.

These are my impressions of the set that my cousin bought.

HD channels look good, but not quite as good as my newer off-brand LCD TV which surprised me, and showed me how far along picture quality is coming on LCD TVs as they used to really suck compared to CRT.

I took over my PS3 to test out the HDMI connection and we both noticed a big problem. There's lots of wavy lines that are very noticable when the screen is all black. Adjusting the settings helped a little and it started to calm down as we got in a good amount of playtime but they did not go away.
My cousin says it's not enough to make him return it. His SDTV broke anyway and it does look a thousand times better than that at least.

However, I have to say that my cheapo LCD set does a better job with HD signals. It's much smoother.

If it didn't have the wavy line problem, it'd be perfect for the price.
Doesn't bother him, but it bothers me a lot, I would return it.
My cousin is happy though, that's good.

so i was finally able to play my 360 in hd on the tv, but it keeps freezing. i tired forza 2 and nba2k7. forza only froze once, but in nba i cant even play a for a couple minutes without the system freezing. so i turned off the hd and the games worked fine. anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong with my system/tv.

The picture quality looks great for digital channels. Regular channels needs some tweaking to make the picture look clean. I didn't gen a new HD box, since this TV picks up HD channels with basic cable plugged in. I don't get everything I would get with a Comcast box, but I do get a lot. Even HD soccer. Since it is in my bedroom, it is ok. The upconverting DVD player looks, amazing at HD. Not as good as my Blu Ray or HD DVD, but close.

I came home from school instead of staying there to do my homework and EGL called right when I walked in. Should be here in the next three hours. :)

Now I need a cheap upconverting DVD player. Maybe one with 5.1 sound. My DVD player's drive started having trouble spinning up last night. It's been making noises for a couple of years and I knew this day was going to come eventually... :(

10 minutes later...

Ha! It came just as I was typing!

Be careful with upconvert DVD players some can make the movie worse. By far the best is oppo but it cost 150.00 just look around and do some research first.

What would be the ideal settings for this on the 360? It looks alright, but there's some hazing around the text.

150 dollars is very good for that player... I am planning on taking my upconverting recorder from the den and replaging it with an oppo
