Picked up a Mariokart Nintendo DS Bundle for $119.00+tax in Tampa FL (the last one in the two local stores). For anyone in the area, there are slimline PS2's and other systems available at BOTH stores (International Mall had better selection). Good luck guys!

Any word on when they will raise the 20% discount???
 
So, both Suncoast and Sam Goody are going out of Broadway Mall? That's it, the mall is dead to me save for the movie theater and the Ruby Tuesday and Panera on the side entrance. Considering the absolutely horrendous amount of time it took the mall to find anyone to fill the old space previously used by The Wiz there's no way they can fill Sam Goody's spot. It's going to remain as a massive, dead spot for a long time. Combine these deaths with a mediocre EB and a piss poor Game Stop and the mall essentially dies.

And Suncoast? Ooops. Now, if you want to buy a movie, you basically don't go over to Hicksville unless you want to drop by the mediocre Target and cross your fingers. Insane.

And Sam Goody is now out of Roosevelt Field? Oh boy, that's going to be good. Another massive, uninhabitable space to rent out. Once again, if they can't fill the old Noodle Kidoodle on the bottom floor they're not filling up Sam Goody unless they turn it into a slightly smaller version of The Cheesecake Factory. In fact, that would be a good idea...if there wasn't one already down the road.


You know, all of these closings and the continual downward spiral my favorite stores are seeing locally are keeping me away from malls nowadays. This is getting sad. I'd much rather not get everything I want via the internet but, if I have to, I have to I guess.

I never had any problems with Suncoast. Its been awhile since I bought anything over there though. I think Malls are tough to operate a business because they charge a pretty high rent.
 
Damn, that sucks. I know Sam Goody is usually super expensive, but I have found some deals there before and soon there will be nothing left.

I stopped by the Gulfview, FL Sam Goody since I was in the area, and there are few deals to be had. 20% off of their prices drops it down to about what you would normally pay elsewhere. They did have a lot of CDs and DVDs left, but their pre-20% off prices are way expensive!

All the good DS games were gone and most of the good PSP ones. Mostly only really expensive games left. They did have a few GBA SPs left, but they were the older model without the brighter screen. They still had the really old original style GBAs marked at around $64 after 20% off! No Gamecubes, PS2, or other consoles left.
 
Oh, forgot to mention that stuff that was a percentage off clearance before actually went UP in price! How lame! Some games were marked at 50% to 75% off before this sale, now ring up at only 20% off! No double percent off sales as it's now a flat rate percentage drop only.

And the calendars that were $3.00 before at 75% off are now $7.20 at 40% off!

Sam Goody LINDALE MALL CEDAR RAPIDS IA 52402

Strange. There are two malls in Cedar Rapids, Westdale Mall and Lindale Mall, and both of them have a Sam Goody. More then half of the stores are empty at Westdale, and it's almost like a ghost town every time I go there, but that Sam Goody isn't closing. Lindale has many, many more people visit everyday, and yet that's the Sam Goody that closes.
 
Thanks OP, I found a Mario Kart DS bundle ($120 @ 20% off) at the Eden Prairie store. They had one left as of 7:00pm today. I was tempted to pick up both, but ethics got the better of me. Call before you go and they'll hold it.
 
I am laughing because I just remembered that my closest Sam Goody that is closing has a fat PS2 still in the big blue box in a case in the store.

Another thing I was wondering is what they will do with the display systems? Because they have a Gamecube, Xbox, and Slim PS2 in displays.

I'm hoping that when they have a bigger drop I will be able to pick up some 360 accessories.
 
Fortunately walked into my Suncoast/Sam Goody double store......found lots of good stuff.....Probably could have waited a couple weeks for 40%....but given there were only 1 of the things I wanted.....I figured...may as well buy them now.

4 DVD Sets (Cowboy Bebop Remix, Danger Mouse Seasons 1&2, FireFly, The latest 2 The Works of Director Series) + 3 CDs + Dragonquest VIII.......for ~ 150$.....Not bad all around.
 
There was a lot of traffic when I went to my Sam Goodys on Sunday. I don't think that they'll have much in the store by the time that they actually drop down to a bigger percentage. I hope that they do though. I can really go for some of their Guitar equipment. The acoustic guitar I saw for $100 wasn't that bad. If I can get it for $60 or so it would be nice. Plus AMPS and other stuff.

When the Sam Goody closed in town, they said the systems usually go back or to another store. I somehow managed to buy the GBA display model on the floor for 50% off, that was nice.

Just came back from another Sam Goody out on the highway to check out what they had.... sale is terrible right now, a mere 20% and they said this discount is not getting any better... I smell bullshit. They aren't even adjusting the iPod shuffle price, which as announced yesterday been dropped to $69 for the 512 MB and $99 for the 1Gig model.

I'll go back in another month. They say they don't know how long the store will stay open but it might be 10 weeks.

And what's the deal with these Playboy DVDs? They're all $5, do they suck or something? Is that why they've been so heavily discounted?
 
Damn. . . Another Media Play frenzy to be. Once again, money will not leave my hands unless I can get nice things for no less than 50%.

Probably because the average consumer doesn't realize the price dropped or sees a going out of business sale and thinks the price is the best they can get. I mean they think $99 - 20% off so $80 for the 512MB one is an amazing deal, so will buy it without even doing their research
 
Few good items that I was interested in, but the prices were still insanely high. Except for the Black gamecube for $80. Unless you compare them to some other chain record stores, they seem somewhat reasonable.

No, I just have seen the same thing happening over and over again with these going out of business sales so I figured that was their reasoning. Over the weekend I was at a clothing store that is going out of business and it was only 20% - 40% off. Usually the stuff is on sale for 30% - 50% off anyway but everything was raised up to full price like with Sam Goody and the clearance items. People had their arms full of clothes and the lines were ridicuously long even though the prices were more than normal.

I just don't understand why the average consumer (not talking about anyone on this site, just a regular person who doesn't usually bargain hunt), sees a going out of business sale and automatically thinks they are getting an awesome deal on something when it's most likely they are overpaying.

Im glad Suncoast is closing. They overcharge on everything. It's a sad day when they charge $17+tax for a butterfinger :cry:. I went in there today to see if anything wasn't too bad. Only thing that wasnt overpriced was The Man Show seasons 1 and 2 for $40 total.
 
where im at(college right now, so coliseum mall in hampton, va) they still have the ps2 ffxi hard drive and game, a slim ps2, an xbox, psp, and a gcn, hopefully i can score the psp if no one else goes by there in the next couple weeks, which is highly unlikely
 
Those little game and anime figurines they sell at Suncoast are a pretty good deal for $4.

But then again I'm the only idiot that collects things like these.
 
If the discount gets to 50%, I'll go back. Checked out the local store and even with 20% off games the prices were higher than everywhere else.
 
They have a ton of stuff left at mine, all except the one thing I wanted "The Legendary Jerry Lewis Collection" box set. Seriously who else in Ashland-bumfuck Kentucky would want that set but me? There was alot of people coming and going but not alot of them were buying anything, guess the prices are still too much even for non-CAG's.

Same here, as I have a feeling my local Sam Goody will probably still have a psp or 2 in stock. And the magic number for me is around $150, but I'd probably be able to hold out for a 50% drop, if I were lucky enough to see one when that happens.
 
Went to a sam goody yesterday, basically the whole store was 20% off, no good deals to be had needless to say.

Oh yeah and the store i went to was in the McKinley mall in buffalo, ny, it sucked so dont bother going.

So with the 20% off at Sam Goody....that should make their prices......*quick mental calculation*.....still more expensive than every other retailer on.....*thinks*....Earth, no, Solar System, no, Galaxy....yea, Galaxy (but not Universe).
 
I had a Sam Goody go out of business near me once and the prices weren't "deals" until they got to 40% off, and even then some things were so outrageous in price you were maybe only getting 10-20% off normal retail.
 
Sam goody's prices are out of hand. I feel sorry to see the one in the mall by me is going out, however i cant say im suprised. 29.99 for DVD's is just way too much, if best buy and target struggle to get rid of dvd stock past their intial 14.99 release point, how could sam goody possibly survive? Well its obvious they could not. I never saw anyone in there buying anything.

No its 30% off now...picked up the Original DS for 91 bucks plus tax... :| Im waiting for there xboxes to reach 40%-50% before I buy one... at that percentage will be a force buy as anything over will probibly have none instock. They had 4 DS' on friday and only the last one today..and so I bought it at 30% off ..good deal no? (from 130)
 
Was at the Sam Goody in Indy and games are now at 30% off...nothing worth getting at that price IMO. If it hits 50% there MIGHT be a couple games worth that. At 50% off their UMDs would be the same price as Wal-Mart.
 
How did it work last time SG/Suncoasts were closing? This year, the first two weeks of Feb were 20% off, so is it safe to assume this and next will be 30%, and then 40% for two weeks and so on? Just trying to get a sense of what's to come.

seems that they are playing by the manufacturers rules when pricing game system prices, example xbox fezora bundle 179.99 (like everywhere else) - 30% off. :)
 
I saw that Sam Goody was closing last time I went to the mall, they didn't have crap.
I hope Suncoast doesn't close down too in our mall, it's the only place I know of in our city with an extensive anime and television boxed set collections.
 
the manhattan mall location for suncoast, it's still open, i went there last week at 20% off, but for 30% off, the DVDs there are still not worth the price.
 
went to sam goodys today and picked up the xbox360 wireless network adapter and a xbox360 wired controller for $60. Not really a deal cause the cashier made me pay in cash and pocketed the money in plain sight. oh well $60 for 2 items that would normally ring up $140+, it made my day.

i walked up to the cashier and asked how much were the network adapters and he at first said $69 but said if I paid cash he would give it for $50. I had $60 and said if he could throw in a wireless controller and said sure. This was at the Sam Goodys in San Bernardino CA. A buddy of mine said that he went to one in L.A. yesterday and was able to get Call of Duty 2 and NBA Live 06 (xbox360) the media remote and a faceplate for $50. sounds like the employees dont care how much they sell the stuff for since they are a$$ed out of a job anyways. i hope this helps out anyone at there.
