360 or 3

Today I went to the game store to pick up PS3 after thinking and making sure I can afford it. I was getting one and a guy who works there, I think, asked why I was getting one and not a XBOX360. He talked alot and got me a little nervous about which I should get, so I figured I would wait a little and think more. My reasons for getting PS3 over 360 is MGS4 and the FF series, but saving 200 would be nice. I was told that the FF13 games will be out for 360 eventually. Other than those games I am mostly looking at sports games which will be out for both systems. So basically does anyone care to suggest which i should get, keeping in mind i could care less about HALO3. And if you know which has more problems with hardware that would help.

Well, if you can afford a PS3 go for it. At least you are sure the games you want will be on it. FFXIII on the 360 isn't happening as of now.

As for hardware...yeah...not even close. 360's have been breaking left and right. One reason I have yet to get one. I guess more stable versions of the 360 are coming out later this year though.

I highly suggest not taking advice from someone who (I presume) has neither.

While I cannot guarantee you will be happy with your PS3 (most PS3 owners I know are either not, or have sufficiently justified their monumentally expensive purchase to retain necessary sanity), but I can almost surely guarantee you will be happy with an Xbox 360. The games are fantastic, Xbox Live is an absolute blast, and it's only getting better and better.

Playstation 3 is in rather unsteady ground as of now.

Now, if you really must have MGS4 (without having seen any gameplay whatsoever), then I suppose you can justify your purchase. There is little evidence FFXIII is coming to the Xbox 360, though if I was forced to bet I'd probably say it will eventually. However, there are SO many Xbox 360 exclusive titles, and titles which are vastly superior on the Xbox 360, that it's hard to justify the baren and arid lineup the PS3 has, especially for $200 more.

I wholeheartedly recommend an Xbox 360 with great confidence in your satisfaction. I cannot recall one unhappy Xbox 360 owner (well, those that were temporarily frusterated by a broken console, maybe) dissapointed by how MS has been delivering so far, and I certainly can't say the same for Sony.

If you do settle on the Xbox 360, I recommend buying an extended warrantee. My original launch Xbox failed in January of this year (though I hear the failure rate has improved greatly since the launch batch), and I was definitely happy I purchased myself an extended warrantee.

don't listen to pyro...he is a m$ fanboy... the question is besides the games like FFXIII and the sports titles that you are looking forward to, are there any other games that you are looking forward to? Like Gears of War or Lair... the answer is pick the system you'd be more happier with the exclusives... personally in terms of exclusive sports titles.. the show is 10x better than 2k7.. other than that both systems will have the same sports titles...

When it comes to recommending one system over another, it is rather pathetic to go the way of just saying "oh well, they are on equal ground, can't recommend one over the other" just to be non-confrontational and get along with everybody.

If recommending the superior product is equated with being a fanboy, then your judgement is terrible skewed.

My post history is evidence that I am no MS fanboy. I've been banned on this site for harshly attacking Microsoft fanboys.

I might note to the original thread poster that I am coming from the viewpoint of a "hardcore gamer". I love games with a deep passion, and I play them constantly. I merit originality and progress more than system sellers and Madden. And I despise most sports games for being uninventive and cookie-cutter. If you do not love videogames with such a fervor (which is certainly no vice), you may be better served by the Blu-Ray capabilities of the PS3.

The hardware of the machines in terms of graphical capability are pretty much on-par with each other, though the Xbox 360 has been delivering superior graphics on most multi-platform games (even with a year of extra dev time on the PS3).

if you're referring to whoknows... I dunno. He didn't say anything wrong.

Anyway, while the PS3 doesn't have the games yet, it does have a better release schedule IMO. And let's face it: the 360 didn't have more than a couple decent games a year ago either. And yes, the PS3 is a more stable system.
I highly suggest not taking advice from someone who (I presume) has neither.
I wish you would have said assume instead of presume so I coulda pulled the old "when you assume you make an ass etc etc" :p

OP:

360 release list: http://xbox360.ign.com/index/release.html

PS3 release list: http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html

You really don't need anything more than that to decide besides the facts that PS3 has blu-ray, more reliable hardware and 360 has Live.

Xbox 360 + Xbox Live > PS3

Atleast that is the way I look at it. A lot of the 360's library of games offer great online capabilities, where as the PS3's leave much to be desired. I figured that I would be better off buying a 360 at launch and enjoy the superior multiplayer platform that I'd be missing out out on if I bought a PS3...

Thats not to say the PS3 is any less of a system, it is just that their online platform is pretty weak compared to XBL.

the times I've read your posts most of the time you were attacking people for the ps3 views.. if I misjudged you.. i apologize.. now I agree Gears of War is the graphical superior game out there at the moment.. but Ubi soft screws sony anytime they multi console anything... giving them the shit end of the stick... at this point the decision would be made on in terms of exclusive games...

I think a list of the exclusives compared side-to-side would be much more useful.

I'm an equal opportunity offender. Right now my pet peeve is people who are all "P.C." about consoles. Consoles are things that can and should be compared objectively, not something that one should avoid talking about so that they're not labeled as fanboys.

I play videogames, not consoles, but when it comes down to comparing consoles I can do it objectively.

I absolutely adore the PS2, idolize my Nintendo DS (a bit underwhelmed with my Wii as of now) and absolutely love my 360. I also think the Xbox was underappreciated despite having fantastic games (which I could go on for hours telling you about, including a list of BC games you should go pick up if you have a 360).

That certainly doesn't make me a Sony fanboy or a Nintendo fanboy or a Microsoft fanboy. In my estimation it makes me a videogame fanboy.
at this point the decision would be made on in terms of exclusive games...
I totally agree, there is honestly no other possible reason I can think of for comparing anything else but the games... but like I said, I'm a videogame freak. Some people might be better served by the Blu-Ray features on the PS3.

There are many people I know who have played nothing but Madden and GTA on their PS2's. Knowing the wealth of titles on the PS2 I find that deplorable, but I understand there are people that simply aren't into games like I am, and I suppose I ought respect that.

well i agree that the 360 has some quality titles...so does the ps3.. to be honest this fall/winter is going to be a great time for all gamers...sony or ms..

I'd like to point out, that all other things aside...

"On matters of taste, there is no argument".

Hyperbole exists on both sides. I play my PS3 more than I play my 360, but that's just me... YMMV, and if it's not a matter of life and death, why agonize over the decision? I picked both. ;) If you don't have the cash for both, pick one that has the game you want to play... don't listen to anyone who claims "superior" this or "best" that. Because these two consoles are neither. One has strengths that are the other's weaknesses...

And I don't spend hours in a darkened room trying to justify my PS3 purchase.... nor am I in denial for buying it. ;) Because neither console was a "monumentally expensive" purchase for me.

Just check out this site (which has a list of exclusives), and choose the console with the most exclusives you want.
Personally the 360 and Wii have a lot of exclusives I want, while the PS3 doesn't have many, as I'm not a fan of Sony's franchises. However, if you are a fan of Sony's franchises the PS3 may be a better buy for you.

From the standpoint of having gone through 2 360's already...i would say wait until later this year (its roughly 5 months) and get the PS3 once the price cut. Save yourself some money on the PS3 by waiting. That, or get the 360 later this year IF they come out with something thats reliable.

Yeah get a PS3 because of a baseball game...this guy is the fanboy, don't listen to him. Either way I think you'll be happy. It seems like more and more titles are coming to the 360 and it's 200 cheaper. I have a console I didn't get from launch and it is still going strong, I have two roomates that play on it alot, so it gets its fair share of power time. But like I said get a PS3 because they have a baseball game that "is 10x better than 2k7"...what a fucking idiot.

Dude, I feel sorry for you, the PS3 has KICKASS baseball!!!!! 10x better even.
Sorry I agree with you I just hate the post from that idiot user, I'd feel dirty if I even wrote his name.

OP said he's looking for SPORTS games and it was just pointed out that the PS3 has an EXCLUSIVE Baseball game that is superior to what the 360 has to offer.

I don't see why you have such a problem with it.

Did I say "Don't get a PS3 because they have a good baseball game"? NO I DID not! I was simply saying if baseball is that important to him then HE SHOULD GET a PS3!!! You people are asking me if I can read? Reread my posts and I clearly say get a PS3!!!! If baseball isn't his thing all the sports game are pretty much the same on both systems...so get a PS3 they have superior baseball.

I wouldn't expect someone so stupid to come up with such an ironic statement.

Where did i ever say you said that? If you can quote me I'll respond to your stupidness...if you can't then I'm out, and I win...c you in another thread...

Too late for him. Anyway, baseball aside, the 360 sports games seem to run a bit smoother than the PS3 versions.

If you're looking for an unbiased opinion, your going to have a hard time getting an answer from the 360 forums. It really all depends on what kind of games you are looking for.

PS2 had all of the Final Fantasy titles that everyone went ga-ga over, one could assume that they will do the same thing on the PS3, but it seems that Square-Enix is not too happy with working on next gen consoles because they are "too complicated", yet FFXIII and its spin-offs are coming out exclusively (as far as were now told) to the PS3. MGS4 may or may not show up on the X360, if these two franchises are you main solid reason for owning a PS3, then go for it.

Checkout the current releases for both PS3 and X360, read reviews on the games that interest you, check out the upcoming games for this year, see which side has the games that you want. Also, I'd sugest waiting until July when e3 hits, this way you'll know what to expect next year.

depends you want only games or the extra features. wait it out man buying a console now is pointless e3 is in about a month, price drops maybe, new games to spark you interested. You waited this long wait some more.

Gave you the best advice. ;)

hardware wise i think hands down a ps3, software CURRENTLY a 360 but thats because the ps3 is still a newb. E3 and this holiday season should shape or make it harder for you to decide. I know i am going to have to save $700 for games only. Halo 3, Mass effect, then Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, assassin creed, burnout paradise, mercinaries, mario galaxy, metroid 3, super smash bros, heavenly sword, lair.

PS3 is quiet. That's one of the reasons I ditched the 360. It was louder than my PC, and that kills watching movies unless it's turned up.

PS3 has virtually no problems. 360's die left and right. Maybe not left and right, but damn, it's pretty widespread.

The Playstation Network is picking up. Warhawk fucking rules, and I honestly don't see what Live has that PSN doesn't. Your friends list carries across all games, so I'm not sure what the fuss about that is.

Warhawk fucking rules.

The only advantage I noticed was ingame soundtracks. Though with Dead Rising, I noticed in some parts it didn't make a difference, as the music replaced the voice overs multiple times.

PS2 games are backwards compatible, with upscaling/smoothing. Not only will you get FFXIII, but all the other PS2/PSone FF games as well.

PS3 controllers have a built-in battery, so you're saving $20 you'd spend on the play and charge kit. There's no rumble, but I've gotten used to it to the point that it was kind of annoying on the 360. It could have just been what I was playing though.

If you play your sports games online, I also should mention it's free.

If you have to ask, you shouldn't buy either. Just wait a little while.

Either way, you definitely shouldn't be asking on the 360 specific forum.

OP, I would suggest you wait out the console wars a little longer. That is, if you can go without a sports game for a while. Heck, I even heard real sports can be just as fun and even healthy for you. I'll be damned...

Sure the PS3 may be stable right now, but no one knows for certain the exact life of the ps3 other than the ones who helped build/design it.

And getting the ps3 for future FF and MGS titles doesn't seem like too great of a plan since it doesn't seem like you'll play the system until said titles come out. And waiting until their official release and word of the game(s) being either multi-platform or exclusive seems like a wise choice.

EDIT: Foolman, beat me to it.
PS3 for the Blu-ray, and much better hardware. Xbox 360 for the better games, and online play.
I agree one isn't better then the other. The both have their faults, and upsides as well.

the only true reason to buy one console over the other for sports games alone would be the controller and online capabilities....i find that a lot of people just plain prefer the dual shock design....fair enough....but on the other hand the 360 does integrate live pretty well into all of it's online games...also if you want to use a PS2 controller on the X360 (or a pc mouse and keyboard for that matter) there IS an adapter that lets you play with the dual shock on the X360 ....

one of Sony's biggest arguements against Live is that PSN is free which a Sony rep was just quoted saying it is not going to be free forever

as for exclusives xbox has the ones i personally want....even on some non-exclusive games the xbox has exclusive content via downloads (e.g. GTA IV's episodic content)...im not personally interested in the FF series as i dont play rpg's and im not a Metal Gear fan....

I am looking forward to what Team ICO is making for the PS3 (which will be exclusive)...these are the guys who made Shadow of the Colossus and whatever they bring to the table i will no doubt like.....

i also make use of the x360's media center by streaming content (movies, music, pictures, xm, etc) through the 360...this is a HUGE feature for me which i use almost daily...

the PS3's biggest selling point (to me) as of lately is a bunch of DEMO's and folding @ home which is horseshit in my book (just my opinion, chill out)...

so....for the all around experience i suggest the X360.....if you are purely looking for sports games and you HAVE to play with the PS3 controller then get the PS3..if you can be ok with the PS2 controller buy the adapter for the 360...if the controller doesnt matter then save yourself $200....if you are interested in future PS3 exclusives, then get the PS3......if not then the Xbox 360 is probably the way to go...

I would never spend $600 on a console for 2 games that aren't out yet. I'd wait for reviews or play them before plunking down $600 for 2 exclusive games.

On the other hand, the 360 has an amazing lineup of original games that are looking really really good from previews. New IP's are what we need, not more sequels.

BTW, I don't care about Halo 3 either. But Mass Effect, Bioshock, Too Human, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Fable 2.

Two original RPG's done by the people that made the best Final Fantasies should count for something.

If you play online, 360.

If you don't but you like action games, 360.

If you don't but you play RPG type games and God of War, PS3.

I would never spend $600 on a console, but that's just me. I can't justify spending $60 on a game either though.

OP, if you are buying it for MGS 4 and FF XIII, you might as well wait. There is a possibility of a price drop between now and then. If you aren't dying to play anything else or can wait you might end up saving yourself $100.

There will be plenty of PS3's and 360's on store shelves when you decide want one.

I'd agree with the "buy a console for the games you like" view, have a look at whats exclusive on each console. If FF and MGS are really important to you then the answer would seem obvious. If you're big on online multiplayer then go for a 360.

The only thing I would be careful of is potential price drops, there's no way I'm buying the PS3 until they drop the price. I'm convinced a price drop is imminent and nothing would annoy me more than buying a console only for the price to drop $100 two weeks after.

get a 360, PS3 is an overpriced, fancy PS2. all people aree playing on it are PS2 games and thats all they will be playing for a while. it has few exclusive and its biggest one (resistance) might be getting pulled offf of the shelf.

i have had a 360 scince launch, i had one break, but MS has awesome customer care. they also replaced one of my controllers because one of the buttons was a bit finicky, and they didnt ask for the old one back from me.

they have replace a headset for me, and for all of my troubles they also sent me a wireless headset and a play and charge kit.

i have had problems with every single sony product ive owned, and good luck getting any good response from them. i would never own another sony product.

I own both....and I play the 360 a LOT more. I like the feel of the controller a lot better, and since I mainly play sports games, I just stick to the 360. ALTHOUGH, PS3 has MLB 07 and that game is GREAT. It is the one reason I play the PS3....and the only reason currently.
