For those that might want a little more of a push to get Shantae and the Pirate's Curse:

Is that sort of like the Advance features of the original game, that can't be accessed in the Virtual Console version? Seriously Nintendo, fix that.

I believe they're just releasing a new update to add some new things to take advantage of the new features in the New Nintendo 3DS XL handheld entertainment system device thing.

Everything listed in the link was control changes I think and they said it was all stuff aimed at speed runners.

Why don't atlus just do permanent price drops on their games instead of putting them on sale every other week.

Also, I would recommend Pushmo for that price.

Yeah, it seems more than a little silly how often their stuff goes on sale. Still, I love their games, so I'm not complaining.

And yeah, I might have to grab Pushmo at that price. Heard nothing but good things about it. Of course, I said the same thing about Shovel Knight, and I've been underwhelmed with it. Course, it's a lot harder to be underwhelmed for $3.50 than for $10.

Like... new analog-nub controls? Because I've been playing it the last couple days, and I don't really feel like I'm missing out without the nub.

I'm trying to think of an example of an eShop game that actually has had a permanent price drop, but I'm coming up empty. Anybody?

This is what they list:

"Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse update includes “New 3DS” features! Game swaps in real time between Original and New controls, adapting to your unique play style!

-Use ZL or ZR to quickly swap between Inventory and Map screens.

-Use the Right Control Stick to “Quick Select” your magic and items.

-Tap the Touch Screen at any time to revert to Original controls.

-Owners of original Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL can also access these features by connecting the Circle Pad Pro accessory.

-Designed with speed-runners in mind!

This update is currently on its way to Nintendo in North America and Europe, and will be available soon!

*New 3DS and Circle Pad Pro are not required to play the game.

Look forward to this, and more exciting updates to Shantae and the Pirate's Curse coming soon!"

It's just making selecting items and stuff quicker for speed runners.

I'm confused. Is Shantae and the Pirates' Curse on both 3DS and Wii U?

Why don't atlus just do permanent price drops on their games instead of putting them on sale every other week.
I think they probably sell more by just doing all the sales. I'm also a little unsure if it's possible to change the price of an eShop game. A few Nintendo titles have had permanent price drops, but I can't think of any others. I don't know what the deal is. But still, if people think something is only on sale for a limited time, they're more likely to buy it. I bought them all at full price to be supportive, but they're a steal at these prices. Makes me think maybe I should just wait in the future.

Remember how much money Devolver makes by keeping their games at $40 and taking them down 90% off for a still unimpressive $4 or whatever.

And I guess speedrunners are big money these days. What a loathsome hobby. But I think Shantae got big billing on that speedrunner nerdfest recently so they may as well pretend this touch screen stuff is throwing them a bone even when it really isn't anything special.

Not gonna lie though, I did grin wildly when I saw Bionic Commando Elite Forces out.

I'm confused. Is Shantae and the Pirates' Curse on both 3DS and Wii U?
Yes but it's only on SALE on 3DS. WiiU $20, $15 3DS.

How's Pushmo? Worth it?
Very. Solid puzzler.

You truly do seem like the biggest wet blanket in the history of wet blanket-dom.

It is on both:

We get permanent price drops fairly often. In fact, there was one this week (hint).

There have been many permanent price drops, but most of those are retail games .

Yumi's odd odyssey had a price drop just months after release and I'm still miffed about that.

Yes but it's only on SALE on 3DS. WiiU $20, $15 3DS.
Isn't another Shantae supposed to be coming to Wii U soon? So Pirate's Curse is on 3DS and Wii U, and another will be not on 3DS but on Wii U? I guess it's not that confusing, but... well, it is a little confusing. I'm not even sure which one I was a backer of anymore! :p

I don't know if we're in any position to decide if people's hobbies are loathsome or not. I have very little interest in speed running myself, but it is sort of fascinating in a way, at least when it's retro games. There's quite a friendly, happy community surrounding it. I don't really "get" it, but I did watch a SMB speedrun for charity once that was kinda neat.

Lufia hits today 6 bucks. may wait for a sale
The Game Boy Color one? :( I'm sure I'll buy it anyway, but after loving Lufia 1 and 2, that one was a massive disappointment to me. The GBA one isn't good either. The DS one is good, but it's an action-RPG, which is depressing. I would love to replay Lufia 1 and 2.

Sorry for all the posts.  Should have organized that better.

I know I shouldn't mention this here because it's pretty off-topic and might derail the thread.  Then again, maybe we don't have much to talk about at the moment anyway and a derail would be okay.  But basically ...I am really sad not to be getting the white regular-size New 3DS with the Super Famicom buttons and don't want to get an XL but will be getting one anyway.........  :(

Is there any way to get a New 3DS XL on launch day without paying sales tax?  Probably not, huh?  I can't even get the Best Buy pick up in store option to work.  Might get red (had black XL already), or I might get the Majora's Mask one.  That way if the regular size comes out, I can probably make my money back or most of it selling the Zelda one to a collector.  (Edit: Or maybe not.  Seem to be sold out everywhere unless I want to go into Gamestop and give them $200 plus tax right now for a system I might or might not get in a few months.  Hm.)

Another sort of off-topic question (sorry): If I buy a system with a game "pre-installed," then do a system transfer from an old system, it doesn't get rid of the "pre-installed" game, does it?  Just combines the two lists?  And also, if a game is "pre-installed" and I then switch to a new new New 3DS (i.e. if I buy a New 3DS with Zelda installed, transfer my old 3DS stuff to it, then buy a white regular New 3DS and transfer everything from my old New red 3DS XL), does the "pre-installed" thing come with it, or does it stay on the system it came pre-installed on?

How's the new Shantae? I was a bit put off by the $20 price tag as there are tons of quality indies for half that price. Even at $15 I'm iffy - 25% off isn't the deal I was looking for for this game...unless someone can sway me.

Bought Pushmo today on both my accounts for my 2DS and my 3DS. I hope all the hype is warranted. I often double dip if a game is either really good or really cheap but Pushmo is supposed to be both right now.

Have someone in a tax-free state purchase for you? Because you live in a taxable state, you're technically supposed to declare items that you bought that were not taxed.. but that's a whole other discussion. The only viable way to purchase w/out tax is through a re-seller I guess.

Let's put this as reletively objectinally as possible.

It's 'metroidvania' style, even the map screen looks a lot like Super Metroid. It's not fully so, as the game is broken up into islands, and in each island is a dungeon as well as a couple other areas scattered throughout. There's also a stealth section, as well as a section where you have to avoid obsticles and one hit kills you, returning to you the beginning of the screen.

Similar to other Metroidvanias you gain abilities as you progress, and can go back and get to previously inaccesible areas with said abilities.

There are two endings, the good/canon one dependant on collectables. One will likely put in around 10 hours 100%ing it on their first time, though often you will save time by exploring and finding things before the story 'wants' you to.

Finishing the game, with either ending, unlocks Pirate Mode which is a new game but you keep the five ability upgrades you find in the dungeons.

There are four wallpaper unlocks, depending on how you finish the game.

There are a few secrets, but only two of real note.

The tone of the game is overall lighthearted, with a lot of humor and references (including a certain 80s thing everyone loves when they come across it...)

Now my option -- The game play, IMO, is extremely fluid and just all around a joy to play. While I've only played it as much as I have because of speed running, to ME the game never really gets old (save the obstacle section), While in a sense it feels 'light' -- like it;s lacking a lot of the...fullness...a game like Super Metroid or SOTN has, at the same time (especially in the secrets department) it nonetheless doesn't feel like a half-finished game or anything of that nature.

I really like it a lot. I sure don't think of it as "Metroidvania", just a good old classic platformer with gorgeous pixely graphics. It's well worth $15.

People regularly purchase things from on-line retailers without paying tax if said retailer is not in your state. For instance, I don't pay Nintendo e-shop tax, PSN or Steam... but I do pay Apple Store tax. (I know, I should be reporting every single eshop/psn/steam purchase I make and paying tax, but... uh.......... does anyone do that...)

Gamestop and Best Buy are surely in my state, though, as is Amazon (which doesn't seem to sell 3DS anyway)

When you transfer to a new system with a pre installed game the pre installed game will show in your download list. I transferred my regular 3ds to the mario kart XL bundle and then transferred that to the M&L bundle. I have all of my original games, MK7, and M&L on the M&L one. Now the blue one that had MK7 pre installed is basically just a regular blue 3DS xl with no MK7.

Thanks, that's great. No worries there then if I decide to get the MH4 one (which... I think I have decided against...)

Just don't do anything with the Nintendo ID on the system until you do the transfer if you want it merged into your existing stuff.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'll probably just end up buying a New Red XL, keeping my old black XL, and then swapping to a New White regular if it ever gets released here and selling the New Red XL myself and keeping the black for DS games.

I had wanted to do the $100 trade-in thing at Gamestop, but what a pain.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is the "Wii U" one you're thinking of (actually coming to every HD console and PCs). It was the kickstarter campaign one. Pirate's Curse, on the other hand, was developed for 3DS, and was later ported to Wii U.

got to remember you can only do 3 transfers of games (unless they changed that)

I have a question on doing the system transfer. I'm thinking of just deleting my downloaded games and then doing the system transfer. Once I do that I will just redownload them later. My question is how can I do that and keep my saves. I don't want to lose my Pokemon X save

Some games have access to the built-in feature on the Home menu that lets you back up the save and restore it later, even if the game is deleted. Unfortunately, Pokemon isn't one of them.

On the other hand, if you decide to do a system transfer with the New XL's stock memory card, and the card you have right now has more on it than there is room on the stock card, it'll let you just transfer over the save files by themselves with your NNID and then you will be able to redownload the games at any time after you upgrade the microSD.

Thanks, that makes sense. There isn't a third game coming too, is there? I think it was just Half-Genie Hero and Pirate's Curse?

Thankfully they changed that, although I've only transferred once so far and will once or twice more on the "New" models.

Hmm, how come you wanna do this? It doesn't actually transfer stuff from one 3DS to another. All it does is transfer the licenses and that kind of stuff. It's your responsibilty to get the data from one 3DS to another. With the old 3DS, this was as simple as taking the SD card out of one after the transfer and putting it in the other one. Here, we have to copy the stuff from the SD card to the new microSD card. (I already have a microSD in my 3DS with an adapter though, so I need only lose the adapter.)

Actually, going by how the help page I linked earlier is wording it, it sounds like at least some of the stuff really will be transferred directly over this time.

"If you are currently using an SD card that is 4 GB or smaller in size, then you will be able to transfer all of your current content to your New Nintendo 3DS XL via a local wireless connection. This process may take up to two hours."

Well I figured they might let me do the transfer at the store and if so less data being copied would mean less time sitting at the counter waiting for it to transfer

Gamestops have wifi?

that's pretty cool that they're doing it this way. That's helpful for folks who are not big digital users.

Traditionally, no data is actually copied over at all. But it sounds like if you currently have a 4GB or smaller card, it wll indeed copy all of it over. So yeah, in that case, your plan to delete everything would make it a lot faster!

Did you have any previous Monster Hunter game registered on Club Nintendo? I just wonder if there is any stipulation or if it's just random who gets these emails.
I'm wondering the same thing. I had my CN set up to send me e-mails after the Smash demo, but I haven't gotten any of these yet. Not that I really care all that much since I'm not a big MH fan, but I'm still curious.
